I am a regular U.S. reader of other Future Publishing art titles, and was overjoyed to see the first title on the newsstand of this fantastic magazine.

ImagineFX explores the digital science fiction, fantasy and anime genres through letters, interviews, portfolio expositions and fantastic tutorials. All issues also include pull-out artwork by the featured artist, as well as a companion DVD featuring files for the tutorials, artwork and software. Within the magazines pages one will find a wide assortment of styles and artists, including everything from tutorials by noted conceptual artist Ryan Church to explorations of gothic art by several fantastic artists which all serve to expand your creativity and help you along your own creative path.

On the minus side, most of us U.S. readers will be put off by the per-issue pricetag. But for those living in the U.K. (lucky!) or those U.S. readers willing and able to part with the money, this magazine is not to be missed!

This is a brilliant magazine!

I cannot stress enough just how helpful and user friendly this magazine is, with step-by-step tutorials, Q&A section, book and programme recommendations and beautiful art show casings. It covers a little bit of everything and comes with a DVD containing Demo's, art tutorials, Photo's and fonts and more. It's a magazine written for artists by artists and as a result I found my work improving greatly just from reading and practicing the tutorials in this magazine.

First, this is a great magazine.

Second, you're much better off buying a single issue and getting a subscription from the card inserts or even going to the ImagineFX site and ordering from there. Even with our lousy exchange price it's better than $178. Really bad price here.

Imagine FX is by far the most detailed magazine that I have seen that is completely loyal and devoted to Scifi and Fantasy Digital Art. Whether your a technician or an admirer, this book oozez with talent and technique. The magazine is not a pro's only book and they take a hands on approach to helping amateurs. None of the writers seem full of themselves. They all know they are in a liquid world of a digital medium where everyone learns from everyone. I highly recommend this magazine. It's more than average price tag is worth every penny, especially when every magazine comes packaged with a disc choc-full of demos, tutorials, photoshop brushes and source art. There is no other experience that comes near the likes of Imagine FX.

Rather this has more to do with the quality of the service I have received with Magazine Express, who is the company that distributes this magazine for amazon.

I do not at all recommend anyone subscribe to this magazine through Amazon, you are better off going straight through ImagineFX and subscribing via their website. This service is a whole lot of hassle and heart ache for nothing.

Long story follows:

My last months issue came very late about 2 weeks late, and I called and harassed Amazon and they were very nice and helpful. Magazine Express however took their sweet time and I got my magazine almost a week later (which by now was 3/4 into the month) and the magazine was damaged and missing the disc. So i complained yet again to Amazon employees, who were wonderful and not at fault here, and they said they would do their best to help me. I didn't receive word back from Magazine Express or Amazon until the 30th (which at that point I had already bought the magazine to enjoy), and I even bought the special edition because I wasn't sure I was even getting that. So yesterday (January 3rd!!!) I get both magazines, the december issue and the special edition, and not only are they not actual Imagine FX subscription magazines, with the big cover, they're regular store bought ones.

I call today to find out why I have received them when I asked on the 30th after so long that I didn't want the december issue and I wanted to be credited back my money for the month, since I already bought it after waiting so long. The guy tells me over the phone that "Oh the issues for that month come in at the end of the month". That is not true since i had received all of my first 3 months almost a week early, and also what's the point of having a subscription if I'm just going to get my issue super late and I could just go out and buy it at the store in the beginning of the month to enjoy it for that month.

This is madness!

Just go and get your subscription through ImagineFX website, that is what I am going to do when this subscription runs out.

I have yet to receive my January issue. I guess I get to enjoy it at the end of the month.

Cuisine at Home

I've been subscribing this magazine since they premiered. way back in the 90's. and of all the others i had and decided to cancel, this one is the only one i decided to stick with. First of all there are no advertising so you dont waste time flipping through pages to get to a recipe, second, there are great quality images with step by step guide on how to make the dish, its foolproof. Thirdly, they always have great product tested and reviewed section to help the consumer on buying what would be appropriate as a kitchen tool and last they have some great tips in food preparation. the pages are heavy grade and will last a long time and of course, the recipes are innovative and delicious hands down.

I have subscribed to this magazine for years and I love it. The recipes that I have made look just like the pictures and have all been delicious. There are no adds in this magazine so it is a real buy and I read every issue cover to cover.

I love the stuff in this magazine. They have some great "normal" recipes. We also get Fine Cooking and its an okay magazine. Well written, nice pictures, etc. But lets face itsome of the stuff is too outlandish. I have cooked 10x more recipes from Cuisine at Home than Fine Cooking. We always get good results. In fact what we have done is laminate our favorite recipes so we dont have to keep going back to the individual copies. My fav recipe is the make ahead meatballs.

Radio Control Heli Pilot

RC Heli magazines are not common and this is a really good value for the subscription cost. Lots of how-to articles and ads for web sites that feature a myriad of parts sources etc.

For Christmas I purchased this subscription for rc model helicopters for a friend. He likes it a lot . I also bought a book for him , rc model helicopters a guide for beginners. Together they made the perfect Christmas present !

Subtropics

Editors of SUBTROPICS have garnered work from some of the top literary writers (poetry, fiction, essays) of our time. They've also dipped into some of the work of lesser known writers from earlier decades, a nice way to expand your experience. All in all, this is first rate stuff. And the covers are beautiful.

Southern Living (1-year auto-renewal)

Like others, even though I don't live in the South. I have been a subscriber for over 30 years. What they have done to this magazine is a travesty. The things that made Southern Living special (and why so many of us saved old issues) are all gone. The articles are interchangable with the articles in any of a dozen other magazines. For all I know, the articles are written by a bunch of folks in NYC who have never set foot south of the Mason-Dixon line!

Having grown up in the heart of Dixie, I've read this magazine all my life, and I preceded its birth by over 10 years. Still have the entire 1974 year down in the ol' homestead (an ultramodern 1970s brick house) in an old cardboard slipcase. It was a wonderful magazine in the 1970s and even into the early 1980s. Today, it is pure garbage. Do not waste your money on a subscription. If you buy one issue, you'll have all the advertising you need, but you'll actually get better advertising of Southern lifestyles by picking up free flyers at various interstate welcome stations. In fact, Southern Living now resembles a magazine comprising interstate brochure writing sandwiched between so many advertisements you cannot make sense of the editorial. I know what I'm talking about. Since it was purchased more than a decade ago by Time-Life, Southern Living has gone steadily downhill. If you want a gardening magazing for the south, choose Garden Gate or Fine Gardening. Or buy books. It's cheaper. If you need travel information, use the internet. If you want home design, forget it. In the 1970s you had houseplans, beautiful landscape designs and decorating ideas. Today, you can get better ideas from a standard like Good Housekeeping or by watching home and garden shows on television. It's really sad how pathetic Southern Living is. If I were employed there as a writer -and it is not my niche by any means, professional corporate writing is -I would be a lifeless card-punching automaton regurgitating segment marketing pap. Pulp. Garbage. You can't even wrap a decent mullet with this piece of garbage, they've shrunk the page size.

Having been a subscriber for 14 years I can only say that the new changes are not for the better. New subscribers will never know what they have missed.....but us old timers have lost faith. Who said Southern Living needed to be changed? Shame on those who took a delightful magazine from wonderful to wanting. You should have asked the readers.........we would have shared our positive thoughts with you before you took this "improved?" approach.

I've been a SL subscriber for years. Every Southern woman has to have it. It took a dip in quality in the past five years, but with a new editor the content is becoming more abundant. I look forward to it each month! Purchasing magazines through Amazon are often a lot cheaper than the offers you will get directly from the company. I even tried to renew one year asking SL to match the price that Amazon was offering, but they wouldn't do it.

I'm assuming the changes in Southern Living happened because of the state of the magazine industry, but it's such a shame. SL use to be one of the best. I don't live in the South, but really enjoyed the great articles, travel stories, unique recipes, decorating ideas and beautiful photos. Also liked the fact that the magazine carried its share of ads, but I didn't feel like I was paying for a book of advertising with few articles, the way I do with many magazines.

Now, all that is gone. I don't really even recognize the magazine anymore. Ridiculously short articles with little content, recipes that I've seen a zillion times, nothing really inventive or even fresh, just recycled, watered-down content. The cover photos are the only thing that is as lovely as ever. SL now looks like every other magazine on the stand, even worse than many. Why in the world? Is this what it takes to get readers and advertisers? I can't imagine. I'm hoping that SL doesn't go under, but cannot imagine that this change will help it stay afloat. Sad that it already seems to be gone. Very unfortunate.

German Life

I'm finally ordering a subscription to German Life magazine. I've been buying it on the newstand for at least six months (maybe closer to a year), so I must admit to myself that I like it.

This is definitely a magazine for the German-American lifestyle. Each issue has articles about destinations in Germany, about German crafts, or an event going on. But the publishers are well-aware that the audience is in North America. so there are articles about geneaology and other topics of interest to the folks back home. And it may be worth reading simply for the advertisements -plenty of companies selling German goods have ads in here, so you can find a source from which to buy a beer stein or knockwurst.

Don't expect great literature. This isn't the finest, deepest prose you'll encounter, but then that's not the point. It's an enjoyable read, particularly if you want to take a virtual trip to somewhere else.

This magazine has beautiful photography and excellent articles.

It covers all of German speaking Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) as well as covering German events in the United States.

There are often historical articles and nostalgic pieces as well as news stories and editorials. I especially like the travel advice as it is often for areas off the beaten path.

I end up reading it cover to cover each issue

I bought a subscription for my mother (Munchen born, still has accent) last year for christmas. I had never seen the magazine on a news stand, so I took a chance. She was very happy to get it and she said she liked the stories. Her complaint being that there wasn't enough in it to keep her interested or wanting a renewal. I glanced through a copy and echoed her review. She enjoyed the pictures and often took the magazine to work to show her co-workers places she had been etc.

If you are looking for a quick read with TONS of advertisements for wurst and other german items, get a copy.

This magazine is excellent for getting to know the real German culture from top to bottom. Many people who have lived or gone to Germany only know various parts of Germany. This magazine shows the whole country. It not only shows the culture and aspects of the country today, but also its past. It also gives resources for traveling, health, cooking, and various indigenous products of Germany. It is really a good find for those interested in Germany's wonderful culture. It is mostly written in English with one article written in German.

I saw this wonderful magazine at the newsstand. I liked it so much I sent in my subscription immediately. I look forward to each issue and read it from cover to cover. There are articles on notable German, Swiss, and Austrian destinations, customs, and events as well as articles featuring German American points of interest. The photography is great. The book reviews are always informative. I usually end up making the featured recipe and many have been excellent. German Life is a wonderful magazine for all German Americans interested in their heritage; a real gem.

Some of my fellow reviewers complain that the magazine's articles aren't substantive. Hogwash! I cannot believe the smallness of some people. I truly appreciate the succinctness of the features. If you want a tome on German culture, visit the library.

Everyday Practical Electronics

Ever since "Popular Electronics magazine" ceased to exist, I have been reading this as a substitute.

While it is British and sometimes painful for its formality and repetition, it is fulfills a nostalgic longing I have for Popular Electronics, and its content of construction projects and hobbyist information. It really is almost a good substitute.

Bell'Italia is an Italian-language magazine that is to be read and savored and then saved for when you actually get to visit the areas described. The photos and the narratives are excellent and they highlight not just those cities that are famous but those places that many tourists never get to see and that are just as deserving. Moreover, in the more famous cities like Venice and Florence, the places presented are often those that do not get much notice. In addition, the magazine highlights those restaurants and events in the area that will make the visit even more exciting. I have been a faithful subscriber for the past 6 years and never miss an issue!

Bell'Italia is a publication providing in-depth reviews of various things Italian with outstanding photography. Note that it IS in Italian (there was an English version which was never as good and, I believe, has sputtered out of existence). We picked up our first copy in the Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Rome and entered a subscription not long afterward.

This is not an inexpensive publication as it comes to just about $10.00 an issue as shipped to the US (and watch those foreign transaction fees your credit card company may impose). The quality of the magazine makes it worthwhile, and the packaging is outstanding (cardboard shipping container). On the rare occasions when an issue has been damaged (or lost), an email to the publisher has resulted in replacements being immediately sent. The issues are all 'keepers' (much to the chagrin of our shelf space).

One thing which would make this resource much more useful would be the publication of a comprehensive index (ideally online). A few years back, a printed index was included with an issue that helps, but, of course, stops at that point in time. I have corresponded a couple of times with the publisher about this, but, so far, no easily-accessible index.

If you are interested in Italy and have some command of the language then this is an entertaining and useful publication.

Soaps in Depth - ABC

I love all of ABC's soaps and this magazine is great for people like me. Along with soap news it has a lot of good articles about the actors. It's great. :)

This mag is great! I LOVE ABC soaps. My college classes make me miss most episodes, and although I try to tape them all I miss some. ABC Soaps in Depth keeps me up to date on everything going on in Llandview and Port Charles. It also has a bunch of candid pics of the actors. I highly reccomend it.

I like this magazine and just renewed my subscription. Two things I don't like ...

1. The cover titles are deceiving. Example: They'll say someone is "leaving forever" when they're not leaving the show ... just leaving a relationship. Many articles are not what they seem based on the cover's titles. But, that's OK. The articles are usually pretty good anyway.

2. The news is often old by the time it's printed. That happens because it only comes out every 2 weeks. I also read Soap Opera Digest, which is weekly and more up to the minute.

But, overall I like this magazine because of the feature articles on each show. I like that they are all ABC shows. I don't care about shows on other channels so magazines that feature those are just waste of paper for my tastes.
