USA Today : the Nations Newspaper - 6 Month Subscription

This subscription for USA Today was ordered and paid for yet I never received a single issue for over 2 months even though the delivery time was about one month.

When I called the Magazine service as instructed by Amazon, I was told that the delivery would be delayed another month. This was unacceptable and I cancelled the subscription. I was told I would receive a refund. I assumed since not one issue was received that I would be refunded the $52.00 I paid. Shortly later I get an e-mail from Amazon the I was refunded only $17.00

I e-mailed back and was told to contact the Magazine service. I the responded that I had already done that and I should receive a full refund. That was the last e-mail I sent to Amazon. It's about 3 weeks now and I've still not gotten a reply from Amazon. I'm accepting that I was screwed out of $35...and will never again order a subscription from Amazon.

Great paper when it arrives, our subscription started a few weeks ago and it's been coming on and off ever since then. Somedays we get the paper, some days we don't. When you call Magazine Express they seem helpful and will offer to call the delivery source to try to find out what the issues are. In the future I'll just order direct from USA Today, it's the same price and you can cut out the problems with the "middle man".

I buy it everyday (when available next to STARBUCKS)

But oftentimes it just wasn't there. once every 7-8 days maybe

So I thought with the subscription it would be better...NOT

I must be in a BAD area, San Diego-East Del Mar.

I was VERY disappointed and I cancelled after the delievry was even WORSE.

They missed at least ONCE a week.

I have read Usa Today for years. I tried the three month trial. I knew it was an automatic renewal on my credit card for an additional month if I did not cancel my subscription. I did call one month prior to renewal date to stop the renewal. When I contined to get the newspaper after the ending date I called customer service. (Oh, you cannot cancel your EZ pay on line. You have to call them.) When I called and ask about my account the rep said I would be charged. I ask to speak to someone else. Couldn't do it. Would not let me. So, I wrote an email on their "Contact Us". Got an email that said someone would contact me. Never did. Sent another email. Same result. I will never deal with them again.

I ordered this subscription for my son. The paper delivery started sooner than expected. It arrives promptly each week day and is in perfect condition. My son has enjoyed the articles, particularly those in the sports section. He plans on renewing the subscription when it runs out.

The magazine has a similar layout to popular American business and news magazines. There does seem to be quite a bit of coverage of American businesses from a Canadian perspective.

At $70.24 for 22 issues, (1 year), it is pricey. I saw a postcard offering the magazine for $24.95 plus tax, for the same number of issues, to Canadian subscribers only.

I sometimes read this magazine and I'm from Canada; it's a pretty good book with a good Canadian slant towards topics.

All You (1-year auto-renewal)

I highly recommend this magazine for working or stay at home moms. There is truly a little bit of everything. Inexpensive fashion, makeup tips, healthcare, nutrition, fitness, relationships, family, etc... It doesn't prefer one to the other and there are useful tips jotted all over the place that are truly useful. There are very few ads in the magazine and the ones they do have usually come with useful coupons. It seems to market young moms ages 25-40. I am 31 and when this magazine comes in the mail, I honestly read it front to back. No useless stories or expensive fashion that is out of my reach. I just hope it stays as consistent and true to the market they are reaching. Thanks All You!!!

7/29/08 UPDATE: I just reordered this for another 2 years. This magazine is still great and I actually start thinking about when another issue will be hitting my mailbox which hasn't happened since I was a teen.

Top 10 Favorite Parts:

1. Sudoku, Futoshiki, Crossword and Picture Puzzles in every issue

2. Table of Contents shows a picture of the front cover with page numbers for each tag quick to flip to what interests you.

3. Easy layout to read. There are ordered sections called You Self, Your Health, Your World, Your Home, Seasonal, and In Every Issue.

4. Normal everyday people no stick figure models in the this mag.

5. Fashion, decorating and make-up suggestions are all normal brands at normal stores (Target, Macy's, Gap, Walmart, Old Navy, LLBean, Pier 1)

6. Little fluff and most of the ads that are in there have coupons

7. Safe enough to leave on the table around kids (no kinky stuff)

8. Just enough family and kid-fun info but majority appeals to women so you don't feel so mommyish readying it

9. No gossip or celebrity picture. I don't buy anything that pays scummy paparazzi.

10. I can read it from beginning to end the first day and still go back to the issue multiple times thru the month for decorating, fashion and recipe ideas. Great value

I normally don't write long reviews but this is truly a great magazine!

EDIT: 7/7/09 BEFORE you order this magazine PLEASE look over the time it takes to get your first one in the mail. Amazon states it takes 6 to 10 weeks from the day you purchase right at the top of the page. All the 1 star reviews are from idiots who are mad their magazine hasn't come yet and "it's been a whole month!" Stop leaving poor reviews because it isn't All You's fault or Amazon's it is your own fault for not reading the obvious print on how long it takes to arrive. Be patient. It is a great magazine and doesn't deserve the bad 1 star reviews for people's lack of common sense.

All You is so very informative. A little bit of everything, for women of all ages. Food, self help, hair and makeup, relationships, children, crafts, and gardening; just to name a few. They are all jam packed in this magazine. That is why I so look forward to receiving it every month. As was said before, this wonderful magazine has many name brand coupons. It's like they pay you for receiving the magazine. Enjoy.

I subscribed to All You for 2 years and I been so dissapointed this last six months. First by the time we get the magazine (october in January)All coupons are expired and all the tips and items are not current. I worte to ALL YOU they claimed its the post office....post office said ALL YOU pays the cheapest way to get it to us. Unlike Oprah and all my other magazines(better Homes, etc) they all come on time. As for the coupons its not as many and expires so fast. We get only about a week to use it.( thats if I get the magazine that same month). I no longer will subscribe to ALL YOU.

American Road

This is a great magazine. Not only you can have lots os information about places most people don't know, but also learn about american history. The magazine is great for those who love to travel America via the most beautiful and interesting roads this country has. Thr digital edition works perfectly on Kindle,and the print edition is of high quality paper and suitable for a collector. A must have magazine about the USA.

I wish it came out monthly. I want to plan a summer trip and can not wait two months for my next issue.

Self (1-year auto-renewal)

I've subscribed to Self on-and-off for about 15 years, but have recently been feeling like I've outgrown the magazine. The articles seem to focus on issues facing single women who are just starting their careers. Fine, but not for me anymore! Also, their subscription department is terrible! My most recent subscription has been plagued with missed issues, double issues and late issues -and a customer service department that can't quite pull themselves together.

While I look to Glamour and Mademoiselle magazines for intelligent topics on women's interests and look to Cosmopolitan for sex and relationship advice and Vogue for the latest fashion trends, I look to Self for self-improvement. This glossy mag features articles on how to stay fit, eat healthy, look and feel great and delves into issues such as breast cancer and different types of painful menstruation as well as articles on what a difference it makes to eat strawberries instead of chocolate for snack and the importance of drinking water. (My skin is looking great for having started drinking more water.) It is the mag I look to to make me feel good! I have learned how to eat healthier snacks and different exercise routines by reading this gem. This is my first year as a subscriber to this magazine and I shall continue to subscribe to it every year!

My Self subscription started when Women's Sports & Fitness was cancelled. While it's not quite as athletic as that magazine was, Self has an extra emphasis on participation rather than competition. They use "reader models" in a lot of their photo spreads, and really emphasize the idea of a healthy and strong body, over an idealized "fashion model" body. Articles discuss the latest gym class crazes, nutrition and supplement breakthroughs, and debunking of fad diets. They do include some fashion (focus on workout apparel) and makeup (emphasis on natural look and healthy skin) info, but this is not a foo-foo Cosmo magazine. There are healthy recipes, workout plans targeting a new body part monthly, and creative ways to workout outside the gym as well as inside. Overall, this magazine focuses on real women's lives and how to make them healthier, happier, and more fit. There's a lot of practical advice here that is very applicable to most people's lives.

Self what? The entire magazine now pushes product on every inch of every page. Their product placements went from "convenient and subtle" to obviously pandering to their revenue sources. Plus the stories and tips are so far out of reality that anyone over 25 with half of a brain couldn't relate. I once enjoyed Self and their monthly self-help plans. Their core message has gotten lost in the sea of product pushing.

I've been a Self subscriber for two years, and I just cancelled subscription. At first, I loved the magazine because it offers lots of nutritional advice, and the Self Challenge, which starts in March, is really helpful for starting an exercise routine.

However, after two years, I've noticed the following:

Content tends to repeat over and over. If you subscribe, you'll really only need one year to get the gist of what they'll say every month.

Too much emphasis on statistics. I tried to count the number of studies Self referenced in one issue, and lost count because ther were so many.

Too much editorializing on social issues. I don't like being preached at in the name of "women's health," but that's just my personal opinion.

Not enough discussion of exercises to do at the gym. If you don't have a gym membership, Self is great at providing exercises you can do at home. But there's almost no discussion of how to effectively use weight lifting machines, or even free and hand weights.

All in all, a pretty decent magazine. But not good enough for a renewal for a third year!

The history of how Franklin Roosevelt made it illegal to help out the DuPont tree/paper industry is interesting.

But all in all, no other magazine has stood up to our government when it comes to your right to choose how to live your life as much as this one.

....publications such as these are essential. The growing tips, pictures, articles, everything....are professional, timely, and educational. I don't use, I don't grow, but I have patients who HAVE to have medical marijuana and the information is priceless. Enjoy!

If you like pot culture you will like this magazine. I gave it a 4 star rating because it does have a lot of advertisments but its usually for cool glass pipes or papers or stuff like that. I have bought some of the other cannabis magazines and some are better then hightimes but hightimes does have good articles on how to grow and keeps you up to date on the latest methods and styles of growing.

With the legalization in colorado and washington i can see this magazine getting more and more popular. At this price on Amazon you cant go wrong. I think this magazine is deffently worth a buy

Star Wars Clone Wars

My 8 yr old son loves star wars, so to add to his collection of stuff I ordered this magazine. I was happy with it up until I read the comics to him in thelast issue, I even told him I was glad he asked me to read it to him, instead of him reading it himself this time. My son knows what bad words are, and he never uses them, but I do not want him reading them either. I could understand if this was the adult version of Star Wars Mag , but its not. So it would be nice if the editors took this into consideration, the story did not need to use this word, no stories in my opinion need these words, they add nothing. I am not a prude, I swear every now and then, but come on these are kids.

My 6 year old grandson really likes this magazine. The quality of the magazine is nice. I would recommend it for Star War fans.

My two sons (5 and 9) love Star Wars, Lego Star Wars and the Clone Wars. They tend to enjoy them piecemeal, meaning we don't have a reliable single source of all things Star Wars.

We bought this magazine from a magazine rack, but found getting each issue unpredictable. Unlike adult oriented Star Wars magazines, my two boys absorbed each page. My five year old, who couldn't read, spent hours pouring over the pages and making connections between it and the other media we have. My nine year old enjoyed the trivia and stories. Each issue is well worn.

As an original trilogy fan, I have come to appreciate the entire new mythology the Clone Wars has brought into our house. My younger son is a huge Clone Trooper fan, while the older appreciates the Jedi lore.

The price is good. Delivery has been prompt. And each edition has at least one poster; they're really cool and adorn my son's walls.

Birds & Blooms

My family has enjoyed this magazine for years. I agree that the solicitations for renewal are overkill and addressed this concern by having my mother's subscription sent to me. The beautiful photography is a joy for Mom now that dementia has limited her ability to read. Other magazines are often tossed in the trash, but Birds and Blooms is enjoyed by three generations until the pages are worn. It's great to have a magazine that focuses on something positive. Birds and Blooms is a feast for the eyes and a celebration of the beauty that surrounds us. It's as if an old friend has stopped in for a visit when Birds and Blooms arrives in the mail.

This is a great magazine for the amateur birder and gardener. It focuses on backyard birding and flowers, and has very informative articles. I also really enjoy the stories and tips shared by other readers. Just makes you feel good to read it! I've given this as a gift to my mother, sister and grandmother, and they all love it and continue to subscribe. I did not experience any problems with those subscriptions, however I did go direct thru the magazine itself.

7 Issues per year, but ... "Birds & Blooms publishes one special issue per year that counts as 2 issues in your subscription." Wow, that's the kind of math and word redefinition that only a politician could love. I quoted that from the "Early Renewal/Free Year Notice" I received in the mail.

Very nice magazine, enjoyed by all, but I don't know why they have to lie about the subscription in all the big font, and only tell the truth in the teeny-weeny typeface at the bottom of the renewal notice. Just give us the facts, we can handle it.

WineMaker

This magazine is a really good source of winemaking tips for the home winemaker. Throughout the year, this magazine provides a very solid set of articles that cover a wide variety of topics. The articles are written at a level appropriate for the non-chemistry major in college who is interested in making wine. Every edition of the magazine seems to include at least one article by a commercial winemaker -and there seem to be additional brief tips often contributed by other winemakers as well.

Like any magazine, some of the articles are less useful but, on the whole, this magazine is solidly recommended if you are either an aspiring winemaker or even someone who already has the home winemaking bug. For what it's worth, this magazine also complements "From Vines to Wines" by Jeff Cox which is a good, single source book for home winemaking.

It's enough to say that I love the magazine and that it lives up to more than the expectations I had. A wealth of info!
