chickaDEE

chickaDEEMy daughter has been reading ChickaDee for several years. We generally don't buy magazines, but each time we went to the library, she chose this one from a selection of 20+ others that target children. Because it is one of her favorite things to read, I'm caving-in this year and purchasing it as a Christmas present. ChickaDee is not only educational, but it is highly entertaining and appeals to a nice age-range, particularly for 6 and 7-year-olds who may have outgrown the preschool magazines but are not quite old enough for magazines that target the intermediate grades. As a former teacher, I also recommend this magazine for classroom, silent-reading use. It contains loads of interesting educational content.

First off, it is difficult to find quality kids magazines without loads of advertising. This has NONE!

I started my niece on Chirp when she was 5 and she moved up to Chickadee last year. She threw a fit that I was changing her subscription because she loves all the age appropriate stories and activities so much, but as soon as the first issue of Chickadee arrived, she fell in love all over again. She loves crafts and gets plenty of ideas from the magazine. (Most she is able to do on her own, but there are some that the magazine tells kids to ask for a parent's help) The puzzles are challenging for her, but not so difficult that she cannot complete them. She also likes the cartoons and articles. I've even heard arguments about her 11 year old brother sneaking her magazine to read the articles in it.

Her parents also put the publisher's website on her approved list so she can go play some of their online games.

I'd definitely recommend this magazine for any child with well rounded interests.

We started with a subscription to Chirp for my daughter which she loved. Now that she is older, she receives Chickadee. When the magazine comes in the mail, she stops to read it from cover to cover. Well worth it! I now give subscriptions as a gift for birthdays.

Do Not Subscribe Through Amazon!!!

I attempted to subscribe to this magazine as a gift. Amazon got the shipp[ing address wrong and now won't change it -it's up to the magazine. Amazon also won't cancel the subscription and if you want to talk to Amazon you get routed to a phone bank in Bangalore where nobody knows anything or can do anything. After forty minutes of being passed from one terribly polite but completely ineffectual gentleman to another, i was cut off.

I might buy something from Amazon again, but i would not advise anybody to subscribe to any magazine through them. Find the address and pho=ne online and go directly to the publisher.

Also, Amazon does not send gift announcement cards. They won't cancel subscriptions once entered, even if your first issue is months away. They won't offer any explanation for high-handed nonsense like this, and if you want to complain you might as well pick up a shoe and yell into it, because tht's about as much satisfaction as Amazon will give you.
