Alternative Press Magazine (1-year auto-renewal)

Alternative Press MagazineFirst, I would like to say to the person who reviewed before me that you shouldn't rate the product low b/c you haven't recieved it yet because now AP has a 2 star average.

Anyway, I love this magazine. It offers a plethora of articles about your favorite bands and ones you may have never heard of. Thanks to this magazine, I discovered some of my favorte bands of all time (The Matches, The Pink Spiders, etc.). There are also atricles about unsigned bands, fashion (although it's usually only a page long), and the history of music, among other things. I often read issues cover to cover. Overall, an enthralling read everytime. Basically, if you love alternative music, you need to get this magazine. Otherwise, you're missing out.

It brightens my day whenever I see an AP sitting in muh mailbox. I agree that you shouldn't give a bad review just becasue a product hasn't come in yet. Don't let the 2 star reviews fool you, AP is just about the greatest printed source there is for music. I discovered almost every band on my mp3 player from this magazine. But I will say, if you're not into really AMAZING music, stick with your local radio station and order a subscription of J14. :P

I would like to start off by commenting on why this magazine subscription has such a low rating. Almost all magazine subscriptions I have purchased through Amazon take a few months to start receiving. It took about 4-5 months for me to get my first issue of Alt Press. Expect that delay. For the very low magazine prices on Amazon, I think its worth it. This is a very good magazine for those that enjoy Alternative Rock music. One of my favorite features of the magazine is the up and coming album release schedule it gives you in the first few pages.

When I was a teenager and in my early twenties, the monthly AP was a prized gift in my mailbox. Since I've hit my 30's it has lost touch with me and I feel my generation. It does focus on new and upcoming bands and goes a little heavy on the whole "style" thing. Nothing really to interesting unless your a teenager or in your 20's and hanging onto something. The one and only reason I'm giving it four stars is the fact that the reviews are honest and a gazillion times better than Rolling Stone or Spin. Though given that Spin and Paste are now my music magazines of choice. I will no longer purchase an AP just read the reviews while I'm at the newsstand.

Awesome magazine if you enjoy being up on the latest news of the underground music scene of today's youth. Not saying I wouldn't change a thing or two, but I'm just a perfectionist like that. It's about relatively new genres such as screamo and alternative. It's also full of unsigned bands that send in a photo and a short bio, and then Alternative Press (AP) listens to them and tells you what other bands they resemble (if any) and what song they recommend for you to listen to by them. I've renewed my subscription, being an avid scene kid that misses the scene, and I intend to renew for the rest of my life. It's my kind of magazine. They also add bonuses inside periodically like zines, patches, stickers, bracelets, assorted merch and compilation cds. I find things inside my magazine multiple times a year. If you open one, there will undoubtadley be an ad inside for buying previous editions of the magazines-as most magazines offer. This page is plastered with epic covers they've shot with national monsters like Nirvana, Blink 182, Green Day, Hatebreed. The point is, this magazine covered these bands before during and after they made it. Nothing else I've encountered comes close to that. This is a positive piece of media making huge strides for the little guys in the music industry. It's about time somebody did.
