D Abruzzo

D AbruzzoThis magazines is excellent if you want to explore Abruzzo. The magazine is in Italian.

Although this is a tourist magazine, it is more appropriate for an Italian tourist...or Italian speaking tourist as it is entirely in Italian.

Shooting Times (1-year auto-renewal)

Shooting TimesSHOOTING TIMES magazine has been around for almost five decades now. It's a like a Ford or Chevrolet. It's a standard source of information for people who are interested in shooting, re-loading and what's new.

I like it because I'm more interested in shooting than I am in hunting, hiking or other outdoor sports. SHOOTING TIMES is helpful to hunters, black-powder shooters, defensive shooters re-loaders and target shooters, but it retains more general focus which I find helpful.

I like to shoot and I enjoy keeping track of what's new. The current issue of SHOOTING TIMES has a great article by J. Guthrie about Marlin's new XL7 bolt-action rifle. There's also an interesting piece by Dick Metcalf about Ruger's new semi-automatic pistol, the SR9. I can always count on current information by well-informed writers in SHOOTING TIMES.

Although not specifically oriented to collectors, SHOOTING TIMES often includes an article about a classic firearm. This month it was the famous lever-action Savage Model 99. Paul Scarlata wrung a couple of them out on the range. They date back to the early 1900s, a time when most sporting rifles were lever-actions, not bolt-actions. And, they are still capable shooters if the rifleman does his part.

If you are interested in shooting, you'll enjoy SHOOTING TIMES. I like it and gave it five stars.

I went through Amazon to subscribe to this magazine because it did not appear you could subscribe to it at the Shooting Times website without also agreeing to automatic renewal. It is a great magazine.

I look forward to receiving each issue. The photographs are great and they always seem to be writing about something that interests me. Just remember that most of the reviews are fairly superficial.

This magazine is pretty decent. They cover all of the new stuff and perform side by side reviews/testing. Worth getting.

Regardless of where you stand in " The Great American Firearm Debate ", if you've ever wondered what all the fuss was about, pick up a copy of Shooting Timres and give it a quick read. There's something of interest in every issue no matter what your experience or lack thereof. From plinking at tin cans with a .22 to defending your life and loved ones, Shooting Times is an excellent resource and one that I highly recommend.

Literary Review

Literary ReviewLiterary Review is everything you could ask for from the genre: wide-ranging, erudite, clear and fun. It is also about 10% cheaper to subscribe by going directly to their site rather than using Amazon!

I have been reading "The Literary Review" for years--all essays, reviews, letters, bad sex prizes. Since every reviewer (almost every, although I don't remember the exception) writes with such lucidity, enthusiasm, and intelligence, you don't want to pass up a single article, no matter how remote your own interests stand in relation to its subject.

Looking forward to my subscription (did you say you offered a lifetime subscription?). . .

Jj

JjDon't purchase subscriptions from Amazon or Magazine Express.

The following are my experiences with a subscription to Hiragana Times from Amazon.

What this page doesn't tell you is that the Japanese magazines subscribed to on Amazon are filled by a company called Magazine Express and are shipped SEAMAIL from Japan which mean you'll recieve every issue 8 to 10 after it's released.

I placed my order in January and, to date, have not recieved a single issue. After several phone calls, the Magazine Express people (who fill the Amazon subscriptions) said they had to restart my subscription for the May issues which will take 8-10 weeks due to shipping issues. So after ordering in January, I will not receive a single issue of this uncancelable magazine until possibly in late July. Very poor service.

This is unacceptable for a magazine that most US Japanese bookstores (fujisan is one) can get within a week or that you can order directly from the publisher for only a few dollars more. If I had known the shipping policy I would not have ordered and the magazine supplier, Magazine Express will not cancel the subscrition.

I advise avoiding ALL Amazon magazine subsriptions due to their poorly stated policies.

**Update, I wrote this review in June. It is now July 8th and I've just been informed I must wait until August 15th to see if an issue arrives. I ordered the magazine on January 9th and I have had no resolution from either Magazine Express or Amazon who provides no way to contact anyone within Amazon about magazine orders. I reiterate, buying magazines from Amazon if a poor idea.

I have read this magazine in Japan and am esctatic for finding it available in the US! This is a great magazine for those who love to flip through and look at colored pictures for ideas on what is in style!

Northwest Fly Fishing (1-year auto-renewal)

Northwest Fly FishingBeautiful photography and pretty good writing are the hallmarks of this magazine. It focuses on locations rather than on tying, equipment, or other issues. Those of us who live in Washington and Oregon are lucky to have a magazine of this quality dedicated to our area. I get more out of "Northwest Fly Fishing" than any of the half dozen other fly fishing publications I susbcribe to.

Interior Design

Interior DesignMy husband is a design/builder and this is his favorite magazine. He gets excited when he comes home from work and the newest is waiting for him in the mailbox. He loves the resource section as it helps him find trendy interior items; he sometimes loans prior issues to his clients. The photos are great and the pages ooze with visual texture and color. I think that architects, furniture designers, interior designers, decorators, and photographers would all appreciate this magazine. I'm about to renew our subscription for the fourth time.

I ordered this magazine for my daughter as a gift as she is studying Interior Design and really likes the content of the magazine. The first magazine came but it wasn't in good shape due to the shipping. It doesn't come wrapped in any way which was disappointing to me considering the yearly cost of the subscription.
