Vogue (1-year auto-renewal)
I ordered on Aug. 4 with the understanding the first issues, September's fall fashion issues, would take "4 to 6 weeks" for delivery-that would place it sometime between Sep 1 and Sep 15. Sep 2, I received Aug & Sep Vogue and October of the other magazine. I was disappointed for a. not getting the fall fashion issue of the one mag and b. getting an expired Vogue pre-dating my subscription period, shorting me one issue at the end of my subscription. Not sure if palming off expired issues is an intended cost cutting strategy or just an oversight, but I loath when companies' default position is to screw over the customer, placing the onus upon customers to notice the error and decide whether it is worth rectifying, and waste their time fixing it.
But, when I called CN's toll free CS number the agent quickly and courteously amended my account for Vogue and set the other mag to ship the Sep issue. YAY! 5 stars for excellent customer service!
As far as the magazine itself, I quite enjoy sailing through the pages to see Vogue's take on the current styles in fashion, books, music, lifestyle, etc. While there seems to be a certain predictability and cliqueishness in the designers they advocate, I very much enjoy Vogue's presentation of the garments and the overall art direction. I wish there was a better content-to-advertising ratio, though.

First, let me say that I love getting my magazines from amazon. They're easy and cheapter and there's no constant mail begging to renew at a (higher) rate. That said, I get Elle and Bazaar ($10 each) but forget Vogue. It used to be good-models, clothes, fashion, cutting edge-and I subscribed for years. Now it's celeb fluff or (the worst) some socialite with too much money complaining about how her ballgowns won't fit in her closet and that she picks the kids up from school and not the nanny. Honestly, I'm all about Carine Roitfeld and blame Anna Wintour. Roitfeld has style and Wintour lost it years ago. I miss the old Vogue but cannot reltate to this crap. When I like the ads better than the articles, there's a problem. So I stick with Bazaar, which has better fashion coverage, and Elle, which has articles that are interesting and I can relate to and scrap Vogue.I'm a thirteen year old boy who's life revolves around fashion. I have tons and tons of magazine subscriptions, maybe ten? But vogue is probably my favorite. Everyone thinks it's just a fashion magazine, but it is so much more. It has everything someone needs, adult or teen. The fashion sections are absolutely fantastic. A lot of people want to see clothes that they cant afford in a magazine, it makes them feel good. And the vogue articles are very brilliant. I highly recommend 110/100.It is the go-to for fashion, style, beauty, and everything in between. It is the Fashion Bible!Thursday, May 29, 2014

First For Women
It's well oraganized. Just thumbing through, you'll find what your looking for, as the articles are grouped by subject, and headings for each subject are shown at the top right corner of the pages. In a recent issue that I read, the subject matter includes 'Style', where you will find a few pages of realistic, afforadable wear, and tips on what might suit you best, 'Health', 'Joy', where you may find some inspirational stories from real people, 'Mmmm", this is an entire section of recipes that may be pulled out to insert in a notebook, 'Home', 'Love' and 'Fun'. There is even a crossword puzzle, and some jokes to give you a nice lilttle chuckle, that may be needed.
It's a great magazine for real women, with some fabulous ideas for everything from quick meals to decorating, to adding a little romance and stretching the dollar. You'll even find some wonderful excercise and relaxation tips. The price is affordable and worth all the great info inside. Also, you will not find the advertisements taking up more space than the articles..very nice.
So if your looking for newsworthy events or what's happening in the world of entertainment, you'll need to find the time to look elsewhere for that(after all, we "women on the go", want time to be informed as well), but for some time for yourself, check out "First".
Enjoy....LaurieThis magazine has great recipes (at least they Look delicious) that are light or a good party pleaser, the recipies are actually written on the back of the picture so this has been the best mag if you just want to cut out the little square that takes one fourth of the page and put it in your collection.
Not that the fun stops there. This magazine has tons of pictures of celebrities usually in some form of a "mistake" and a "fix it" article. Yes the mag is definatly written for woman (though I am a guy) because it has details about fixing hair and clothes (which I was amazed that they had reasonably priced clothing)... overall I found that this mag was for actual practical use! Also every issue is written in a supportive way about how to focus on the body with a healthy diet.
I would suggest this to any female even if you just go pay the newstand price of 2.50 per issue. There are little antics through out the magazine which make it perfect to look through at an office or in luxery in what free time you can muster.I first read this magazine while waiting in the hospital for my mammogram. I liked it so much I brought it home so I could order a subscription. I have never read a magazine cover to cover before and I have had four copies now and have read all 4 cover to cover. It has so much information and neat little off shoots that you are just waiting for the next issue. I have convinced my granddaughter who is a teenager to follow some of the healthy advice while trying to keep thin and attractive (what an age) she is doing the job with the help of hints from this magazine.I originally "finally" found this magazine after multiple attempts since it is not something you'll pick up in your usual Wal-Mart, drug store or magazine rack at the corner book shop. I love, love, love every single column, every detail and every part of whatever it covers. What's so different about it? It's the first time in a long list of mag subscriptions I subscribe to that ribets my eyeballs into every single detail of what it writes. It is the mag of all mags for research on everything that we eat, that we buy ...landscaping, simplest/yummiest of recipes with a unique twist using everyday stuff. No big time ingredients needed. Logical/sensible weight loss ideas, unique beautiful garden layouts on the cheap, etc. Sort of a big time modestly priced elegant, layout on all that covers a home. This is like a cross between Dr.Phil, Martha Stewart, your doctor, your corner cleaners, and even moviestars with aesthetic problems! First For WomenThis magazine has really neat household hints and wonderful recipes. The magazine touches base on everything a woman needs, uses and wants!

Sci-Fi
The two most extensive areas of coverage for the magazine are movies and television. In the issue I received were articles on new movies and current and planned television series. In case you think that this magazine is one big advertisement for this type of entertainment, think again. One article used the term "shlock-fest" to describe a movie (that I too think could be described by that terminology). Some articles are more in-depth than others, with some being short summaries, and others including quotes from directors, producers and actors.
In addition to the coverage of movies and television, DVD releases are covered. Included in many of the reviewing articles are grades so that you clearly know what the reviewer thought about the movie. While in the particular edition I reviewed I did not see any "Fs," I did see one "D." I will leave you to find which movies receive such a poor grade yourself, though I will also tell you that I agreed with all the grades with the exception of one.
I was impressed that this magazine covered books as well as video games. It seems to me that most magazines cover video games these days, so there was little surprise there, but when a magazine that appears to heavily weighted to television and movies covers books, even if the coverage was limited to one section, then Sci Fi Magazine truly makes all media related to the genre its own.
Having moved away from current video games, I am unable to speak about the quality of the video game reviews. However, once again there were grades for each of the video games, with enough explanation why the grade was received to justify the grade. One article about a certain video game based on a mega-hit fantasy trilogy explained that the graphics were incredible, justifying a higher grade, but the game play was sometimes tedious because you had to find a specific character during a battle (involving hundreds?) at exactly the right time, which kept the game from being a winner.
I stress again that this magazine covers more than just science fiction. In fact, I would say that the issue I reviewed contained more horror than science fiction, and about as much fantasy as science fiction. The magazine includes animé its scope as well. There was a tantalizing article about the impending release of early Miyazaki films (though the article stressed that the release had been delayed several times, so you should not hold your breath note that reviews are time capsules, so the early Miyazaki might have been released by the time you read this).
The editors and authors of this magazine are well versed in all these genres, and are readily able to relate the history of a particular film and its predecessors, as well as directors and actors, and any other individuals involved in a particular form of entertainment.
I have struggled to find a media magazine that talks intelligently to a reader about things they find interesting, versus whether they are dating or the clothes they wear and other mundane, irrelevant trivia. What I want to know is whether the movie, television show, video game, DVD, book, or whatever, is any good. What was the director's vision? Explain more what the actors have to say about the film, assuming they have something intelligent to say. While Sci Fi Magazine has a few minor annoyances (there were a couple of actor's quotes that related more to irrelevancies than something substantive), in general this magazine is the best single source of coverage for science fiction, fantasy, horror and animé movies, television, and DVDs, with additional coverage of video games and books. Once you try this magazine you may find yourself addicted.
Thanks to the folks at Sovereign Media, Inc., for providing me with a copy of this magazine.I have always wondered about the magazine but never read one until recently. I loved the articles and was surprized by the fact there is more than Sci Fi & Fantasy listed in this magazine. It was nice having a preview of TV shows I watch (although some of the material had already aired prior to the magazine coming out). I have even picked up a couple of books from the reviews in the magazine (and I am not a big Sci Fi/Fantasy book reader). I wish I had subscribed long ago.I love Sci-Fi and the insight it gives me to my favorite shows, etc. My only complaint is that some of the items are written months eariler and are now very out of date. otherwise, I love it.I enjoy reading anything about the latest Science Fiction movies, books, etc. This is the best book out there that gives me all I want to know.I wanted to renew my subscription online instead mail. SyFy is greatest -rating movies, books, dvds and TV. I consider it one best in reviewing SciFi ...

Yoga Journal (1-year auto-renewal)
There are of course pages on poses, with clear photos, succinct instructions and explanations on how to modify them if you have to. There are pages on eating healthy. There are stories from people in a variety of walks of life, talking about how even minor changes in their lifestyle brought about significant results.
Then there are the pages which can make a huge difference in another way. A recent article had an article on forgiveness how it is so important not to carry grudges and hatred. Those feelings rarely harm to "person who did you wrong" but they eat up your own body, filling you with stress, tension, and unhappiness. It's amazing how many people I run into who carry these kinds of whole-heart grudges, often from incidents 10 or more years ago!
If you're more advanced, there is content for you as well. Articles about some of the intricate details of yoga might seem a bit complex for newbies, but if you store your magazines, after a few months going back and re-reading those articles can bring fresh information.
There are articles about youngsters doing yoga, older people doing yoga, and anything in between. There are ads for very expensive retreats in exotic locations but also information on being mindful in a frugal manner.
I do have to say that most of the images shown are of young, 20-something sexy models, and it'd be nice to show a wider selection of people doing the poses. Still, that complaint can probably be made with just about every magazine out there.
Well recommended!

This magazine is a good one to read if you are someone who practices yoga. It is subject to some of the same things that people will find annoying with many magazines for the most part. Yes, it has changed with more advertisements, but many magazines have had the same thing as they try to keep going. The subsciption is reasonably priced and they need to stay in business.Basically you need to look past that and read the articles. There is alot of valuable tips and very good information about yoga in the pages that will benefit you and makes it worthwhile. Every month I glean one or two things at least that I find personally worthwhile and it keeps me up to speed about yoga in general. If you are concerned, just pick up an issue before subscribing and give it a chance and read the articles. You will be happy you did.
Read Best Reviews of Yoga Journal (1-year auto-renewal) Here
Let me start out that I paid $5 for a one-year subscription to this magazine, that to my understanding will be 6 issues. The cover advertises the stand price as $4.99 an issue, so I'm very please with the price I paid....Reason primarily being that this magazine is two-thirds advertisements! Very nearly every time I turn the page there is one full page of ads and in many cases, the side with content has 1/3 page ad or the occasional 2/3!!!Ohh I enjoy some of the articles, the depth of the yogi mindset seems to be in every one of them. The many pictures are very inspiration with a few lines here and there that I like to write down for inspiration as well. In a nutshell: Depending on the price, I will probably renew. It's a nice read, however halfway through the magazine I'm incredibly annoyed with the amount of advertisements for expensive extras. I will update as the year goes on as to whether the articles are too similar from one month to another.I've been practicing yoga for a little over two years and therefore consider myself to be an intermediate beginner. I've been receiving Yoga Journal for four months and regret that I had not subscribed earlier. It has broadened my view of yoga in general and provided excellent advise on how to improve my practice via pose specific instruction and photographs as well as describing the actual benefits internally and externally of the pose itself on my body. I intend to renew this subscription when the time comes.

Burda Moden - Russian Edition
Additionally, Burda has a Health and a Food section in the back. The Health section tends to be fairly unoriginal and very Russian not completely grounded in fact and over-the-top. The Food section is pretty great, especially when they have desserts, but I would recommend really reading the recipe thoroughly before committing to it some of them have type-o's and other problems that will throw your recipe off-balance. I once made something with a pound and a half of cottage cheese instead of half a pound because of that whoops. Had I really thought about it, I should have been able to realize that this could not be correct, but this wasn't the only time their recipes were misleading.
Overall, this magazine is a staple for anyone who is interested in sewing and speaks Russian.

Fitness (1-year)
But afterall, who cares? The title doesn't really matter, what matters is the content, and this magazine's content is good.I read Fitness for the first time about a year and a half ago... and I liked it. So I subscribed to it for two years. Well, a year into it, I've decided it's just not for me. See, if you're like me, wanting to gain something out of reading a fitness magazine involves knowledge of how the muscles work, when to work them, what nutrients are best for them, and basic health, because let's face it ladies, even if you DON'T have a degree in biology, you know losing weight and staying healthy involves a lot more than a fashionable pair of hot pants or just a few crunches. You have to understand your body each person requires different exercises and different diets (by which I mean different types of foods, not an actual act of dieting) in order to look their best. So, if you want to gain the education you REALLY need to lose weight or stay healthy, Fitness isn't what you need. They've got great ads for great fashions and great UNREALISTIC looking exercise models (who personally don't have "perfect abs" or "sexy arms" they look like size 4 girls that haven't lifted a weight since high school gym class). A magazine like Fitness Rx is LOADED with information and women who look like they really work for what they look like something we all have to do in order keep our figures.I subscribed to this magazine for a year and found it a waste of money. Every issue has a girl in a bikini on the front (can't a woman look sexy in anything but?) And every issue claims to have "the best ever exercise for...." ok..what about the last 10 issues that claimed to have the same thing..those exercises are no longer "best ever?" I didn't like the fashion sections, and I also don't like how there really aren't any articles. When I subscribe to a magazine I'd like to be able to read it, not just look at pictures. The only thing I liked about it were the success stories..and even those seemed repetitive...are we only allowed fruit and grilled chicken??FITNESS helps give good, solid workout and diet ideas that are realistic to my busy life. But unlike the rest of the health and diet mags out there, FITNESS does not motivate you through there articles and then bombard you with a ton of ads for Chocolate Cherry Pies and "recipes that can clog your arteries in 5 minutes". Instead, FITNESS really stays true to the reader. They provide instruction and motivation along side of advertisements that support a healthy lifestyle!I've gone through nearly every fitness genre magazine and found this one to really focus on it's namesake. With new exercise tips each issue and focus on both whole body conditioning and isolation techniques, there are great tips for people at just about every fitness level. there's also some nice fashion and style sections, but they don't bombard the mag. The cooking section is more than I can do, but the option is great. This mag covers just about everything to get you in shape and looking good-I highly recommend!!
