Arthritis Self-Management

Arthritis Self-ManagementI totally enjoyed the magazine. It has good information for all types of arthritis. The articles are full of information and easy to understand and relate to.

I was and am very disappointed in the magazine "Arthritis Mgmt." It doesn't seem like it has actual arthritis help suggestions, just a bunch of words to fill up space.

Very informative magazine for those with arthritis problems as well as autoimmune issues. Both my sister and I suffer from different forms of arthritis and need to find a way to live our best quality of life. I highly recommend this magazine for up to date information.

Bien Dire - Incls Audio CD

Bien Dire - Incls Audio CDI did not subscribe to this magazine through amazon, instead through the magazine's website. I highly recommend getting the CD that goes with this--about half of the articles (about an hour's worth of audio) are recorded. The magazine comes every two months and is full of articles about different regions and cities, history, wine and a lot of other topics. It is actually very varied in its content. There is a section about current events, and also articles about how to communicate in certain types of situations. The articles range from easier to quite advanced, and the advanced articles tend to incorporate a lot of more idiomatic phrases and words. The website actually has about 10 pages worth of sample from one of the issues, and I would say that it is representative of the product. This magazine is very interesting and I look forward to every issue I receive. And with the audio component I really have noticed an improvement to my comprehension, both written and spoken French.

I've subscribed to Bien Dire for several years and have always thoroughly enjoyed it. Interesting articles, excellent variety of vocabulary plus grammar tips. I use the CD in my car as I'm going about my day. It's a great tool for improving your French language skills.

Cornucopia

CornucopiaTurkey is at once one of the oldest inhabited areas and the most progressive Muslim country in the world (the only one which separates mosque and state). It also contains the northern part of the Holy Land. Cornucopia presents all this: readers can find stories about archeologists trying to preserve ancient ruins from waters created by dams, historic peoples and their customs, rose culture for perfume oils, glorious mountains and gardens, historic homes, palaces, villages, and nomadic people. This is Turkey, lovingly presented in a beautifully designed, photographed, and intelligently written English language magazine.

It is not only a historical but also an art magazine. And i can also say that cornucopia magazine is an art piece itself. All about Turkey today and past.

Country Sampler

Country SamplerI ordered this for my mother, a crafter, through Amazon. Although the expected arrival date was projected to be 8-12 wks after ordering, and thus missing her birthday, the magazines began arriving almost immediately. Plus, as a crafter, she really rates these magazines highly.

I did not order my subscription from Amazon, I ordered it directly from Country Sampler, and then I received a renewal notice. My customer information was given to a publishing company. They sent a renewal reminder to me with my account number and expiration date of subscription, from Country Sampler, to renew my current subscription of two years. I paid the money and six months later, still had not received my magazine. Country Sampler was not willing to help me in any way, even though the magazine obviously provided my information to this company.

Obviously provided, because, how else did they know my subscription expiration, name, address, and account number for the subscription? I had to call daily, talk to gum chewing women on the other end who had no clue, file many complaints, and sent certified mail, in order to get my refund. All I wanted from the beginning was the six issues I paid for,but I never received any of them. I even had the cancelled check. I was furious. I absolutely refuse to ever order from them again, especially since they did not care to look into the matter, make it right, or help me in any way. How many people were not persistent like I was and lost the money they sent? This magazine is not cheap. Never, never again, will I order this magazine. Be very cautious if you do, I hope this helps people from the hassle I went through. Don't get me wrong, it's a great magazine, but be aware of where it comes from.

First For Women

First For Women"First" is a magazine geared toward "women on the go". It is for the stay at home mom, who does it all(mostly for everbody else). Chauffeur, team mom, cook, housekeeper, hostess, financial consultant, lover, nurse and referee. It is also invaluable to those who must juggle the responsiblities of work and home. The magazine contains dozens of tips and and articles pertaining to making life a little easier. To help you find some spare time and maybe devote a little of it to yourself. It puts you "First".

It's well oraganized. Just thumbing through, you'll find what your looking for, as the articles are grouped by subject, and headings for each subject are shown at the top right corner of the pages. In a recent issue that I read, the subject matter includes 'Style', where you will find a few pages of realistic, afforadable wear, and tips on what might suit you best, 'Health', 'Joy', where you may find some inspirational stories from real people, 'Mmmm", this is an entire section of recipes that may be pulled out to insert in a notebook, 'Home', 'Love' and 'Fun'. There is even a crossword puzzle, and some jokes to give you a nice lilttle chuckle, that may be needed.

It's a great magazine for real women, with some fabulous ideas for everything from quick meals to decorating, to adding a little romance and stretching the dollar. You'll even find some wonderful excercise and relaxation tips. The price is affordable and worth all the great info inside. Also, you will not find the advertisements taking up more space than the articles..very nice.

So if your looking for newsworthy events or what's happening in the world of entertainment, you'll need to find the time to look elsewhere for that(after all, we "women on the go", want time to be informed as well), but for some time for yourself, check out "First".

Enjoy....Laurie

This magazine has great recipes (at least they Look delicious) that are light or a good party pleaser, the recipies are actually written on the back of the picture so this has been the best mag if you just want to cut out the little square that takes one fourth of the page and put it in your collection.

Not that the fun stops there. This magazine has tons of pictures of celebrities usually in some form of a "mistake" and a "fix it" article. Yes the mag is definatly written for woman (though I am a guy) because it has details about fixing hair and clothes (which I was amazed that they had reasonably priced clothing)... overall I found that this mag was for actual practical use! Also every issue is written in a supportive way about how to focus on the body with a healthy diet.

I would suggest this to any female even if you just go pay the newstand price of 2.50 per issue. There are little antics through out the magazine which make it perfect to look through at an office or in luxery in what free time you can muster.

I first read this magazine while waiting in the hospital for my mammogram. I liked it so much I brought it home so I could order a subscription. I have never read a magazine cover to cover before and I have had four copies now and have read all 4 cover to cover. It has so much information and neat little off shoots that you are just waiting for the next issue. I have convinced my granddaughter who is a teenager to follow some of the healthy advice while trying to keep thin and attractive (what an age) she is doing the job with the help of hints from this magazine.

I originally "finally" found this magazine after multiple attempts since it is not something you'll pick up in your usual Wal-Mart, drug store or magazine rack at the corner book shop. I love, love, love every single column, every detail and every part of whatever it covers. What's so different about it? It's the first time in a long list of mag subscriptions I subscribe to that ribets my eyeballs into every single detail of what it writes. It is the mag of all mags for research on everything that we eat, that we buy ...landscaping, simplest/yummiest of recipes with a unique twist using everyday stuff. No big time ingredients needed. Logical/sensible weight loss ideas, unique beautiful garden layouts on the cheap, etc. Sort of a big time modestly priced elegant, layout on all that covers a home. This is like a cross between Dr.Phil, Martha Stewart, your doctor, your corner cleaners, and even moviestars with aesthetic problems! First For Women

Schoener Wohnen

Schoener WohnenI've been subscribing to this magazine on and off for two decades! Mostly because I love modern design and architecture, but also because I like to practice my German. It's inspirational and a great resource if you love modern design.

I subscribed and read more than 3 years when I studyed interior and now I found never stale. I compare a lot of interior magazine in the world and pick up this to purchase caused by match the color and modernism with my taste.

Maybe it's because my name is Obermeyer or maybe it's because my husband is an architect--but this magazine has the answer every time I go looking for the right table, chair, sofa. Not only do I see it, I know where to find it and I don't speak German. It's like buying cutting-edge clothing on European stays--10 years later, it's still great. Good design lasts forever. Our furniture bought in the 70's is here and major. We even still have a magazine from the 60's with a beautiful German Christmas. And this year we had to have a Poggenpohl kitchen. Yes, we love this magazine, thank you.

I discovered this magazine features items from their own store mostly. There is only 1 issue during the year that is worth the subscription. This is the issue where it presents next year's trends and forecasts. The magazine is OK, but I felt it was very repetitive in its loud colors room set ups. I did not renew my subscription.

Chronicles

ChroniclesCHRONICLES is simply indispensable. The latest issue (May 2005), for example, deals with Israel and Palestine in the most thoughtful way I've encountered in any periodical. There is so much of value in each issue that it almost defies belief.

By reading this magazine I discovered that Leon Trotsky was such a cheapskate that he refused to tip a waiter in New York who told him, in effect: "Please sir, I am not paid by my employer at this job. Tips are my only source of income." Trotsky replied, impudently, to the waiter that he would not tip him because he was part of the capitalist system. This appeared several years ago, in a delilghtful reminiscence by a Hungarian emigre, of times spent long ago with a leftist (red diaper baby) girlfriend, entitled "Red Panties." Sad to say, but I don't think you'd have seen anything like it in NATIONAL REVIEW.

A magazine that carries columns by writers like Thomas Fleming (its phenomenal editor), Paul Gottfried, Srdja Trifkovic, Andrei Navrozov, and Phil Jenkins, to name a few, is not something to be missed. I recommend two subscriptions, one for yourself and one for lending.

Along with the American Conservative, Chronicles is one the highlights of my month. While AC is more "newsy", Chronicles, as its byline states, deals more with heavier, cultural issues. Many of the writers seem to be refugees from the leftist takeover at National Review. The viewpoint is pro-Catholic, pro-Southern (US) and pro-Western. There is a narrower idealogical focus to Chronicles than in AC, with more of a religous slant than I personally care for. Still, there is so much solid reporting and commentary here that I will be subscribing for a long time to come.

CHRONICLES, the primary print exponent of traditional ( old, or "paleo" ) conservatism, has continued to maintain high standards in its ongoing coverage of Western cultural and civilizational decline. Lead by its editor, Thomas Fleming, CHRONICLES features a unique roster of writers, some connected with academia, others submitting essays as freelancers. Articles are ( for the most part ) well-written, informative and intelligently argued; one does not discern any evidence of pandering to the lowest common denominator or of engagement in the sort of infantile antics all too characteristic of such magazines as ( the sorely degraded ) NATIONAL REVIEW. Some personal favorites in CHRONICLES: George McCartney's superb and detailed movie reviews, Chilton Williamson Jr's "Hundredth Meridian" column ( vignettes from the rural western states ), Joe Sobran's witty and incisive thoughts on a plethora of (heavy and light) subjects , Roger McGrath's "Sins of Omission" column ( un-PC history ), Philip Jenkin's well-argued cultural observations, Andrei Navrozov's insightful commentaries on the European scene, Srdja Trifkovic's "American Interest" column (meticulous political analyses) and, last but not least, Thomas Fleming's frequently ferocious (but deeply learned) ruminations.

For those who aren't aware, conservatism was not always cognate with GOP/big business/world empire; CHRONICLES, along with THE AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE, have been scathingly critical of the Bush administration and its unconstrained ( delusional ) promotion of democracy via the "war on terror", both in Iraq and through various "spontaneous" ( i.e., artificially fomented ) manifestations of "freedom" around the globe ( N.B., those on the Left should meditate on the fact that progressive forbears such as Woodrow Wilson fostered this national lurch into missionary ideology ). However, as well-covered as the political world is in CHRONICLES, the magazine's unique "voice" is perhaps best demonstrated through the fact that its focus is not unduly weighted towards that dreary and quotidian realmindeed, it is the express purpose of this "magazine of American culture" to bring its analytical lenses to bear on cultural specifics, those stubborn particularities which ultimately trump ( as well as influence ) the political forms by which we are governed.

The sad and lamentable state of our culture as relayed by CHRONICLES does much to quell such halcyon notions as the idea of ( inevitable ) progress, the glowing future and ( non-divinized ) brotherhood of man. CHRONICLES is not, to understate the matter, a journal that exudes an abundance of sweetness and light; understandably so, since its main message can be summarized as "the world is going to hell in a hand basket". The relentless shouting from the rooftops tends at times to grate, and not just on those, by dint of antithetical worldviews, one would expect to react in such a fashion. In fact, this is the area in which CHRONICLES merits a certain amount of criticism. Since the notion of "fallen mankind" has been around for thousands of years ( given its particularly relevant formulation by St Augustine in "The City of God" ), it begs the question of what exactly the contributors hope to accomplish through their incessant Jeremiads; if it is to embrace the prophetic mantle ( implying a necessary rectitude and piety ) and convey the message of repentance and belief in Christ, is this merely preaching to the choir of its established readership? If, on the other hand, CHRONICLES actually intends to reach out beyond a remnant, how effective can its aggressive and sometimes bitterly vituperative tone, be? Mind you, this is not to engage in the gainsay notion that conservatives are "intolerant"; for goodness' sake, how ( in real terms ) "tolerant" is THE NATION or NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS? Ultimately, the point this reviewer ( a subscriber for some years ) is making is that, as sympathetic as I am with its *diagnosis*, the actual *prescription* CHRONICLES dispenses often wants for a modicum of Christian charity. In such moments of frustration one should perhaps veer away from this undoubtedly insightful source and take the higher road: read some choruses from T.S. Eliot's "The Rock", a passage from "Brothers Karamazov", above allpray / fast / give alms. Some "projects" of which Thomas Fleming would no doubt approve.

"Chronicles" is oen of the very few actual conservative publications in the United States, unlike all those imperialist/establishment publications like "National Review" (which lost whatever conservative credentials it had left when they fired Joe Sobran in the early 90s) and the noxious "Weekly Standard." "Chronicles" is concerned with culture, with faith, and literature, with politics and society from an American nationalist perspective that is urbane, informed and respectful no ignorant war-mongering about "freedom fries" and "old Europe" here! It embraces and celebrates our Western cultural roots and our shared sense of place and civilization, without falling into the trap of cheap ethnocentrism. The writing is outstanding Tom Fleming, Clyde Wilson, Paul Gottfried, the late Sam Francis, and so many others. It is the best value in terms of price and high quality content in an American magazine of ideas today.
