Drumhead : Information for the Modern Drum Enthusiast

Drumhead : Information for the Modern Drum EnthusiastI've been picking up DRUMHEAD on the newsstands for over a year now, and I can tell you there's no finer mag out there for the serious or aspiring drummer. The usual articles are present on technique, but this one goes beyond all of that. How about regular health and fitness articles? It's here. Equipment reviews? They've got it and not just the major brands, but all the boutique percussion shops get press as well.

Everyone gets big players and does some kind of interview. These folks actually ask the right questions. Nothing about hair, or some off-stage gossip. The interviews are focused, informative and simply some of the best I've ever seen in this type of magazine.

If this is all you got, it would be plenty. But they include a CD(!) with every issue, with lessons, play-alongs and demos. Not some once-a-year trick to boost sales, every disc in each issue is useful.

DRUMHEAD has done such a good job, I'm hoping someone will take the hint in other instrument fields, or that a sister publication for guitar or keyboards will sprout. In any case, if you want to live and breath drums, this won't get you signed yeah right but it is a fine resource for drummers in all styles and at all levels. Check it out, see if you agree.

I subscribe to three American Drum Magazines, and purchase a British publication at a newstand. DRUMHEAD is by far the best of the four, which are all terrific magazines.

I have not found this magazine very interesting. The writing is poor and the content is relatively unenlightening. I've received two copies and both came through the mail ripped to shreds. If you are a jazz drummer, this magazine is not much use. I'm canceling my subscription.

Guns & Ammo (1-year auto-renewal)

Guns & AmmoGUNS & AMMO has been a part of the shooting scene in the USA for decades now. It's sort of the industry standard for people like me who are interested in shooting, collecting and reading about what's new in the field.

If you enjoy plinking, target shooting, hunting and collecting, you'll enjoy GUNS & AMMO. It is marketed toward the general shooting public.

Its authors keep track of new rifles, pistols, shotguns, scopes and related optics. Its illustrations are first class and the authors who contribute to GUNS & AMMO have always impressed me with their knowledge of the field.

Precision shooters, cast bullet shooters, military collectors, black powder shooters, cowboy action shooters, competitive shooters and law enforcement have other publicactions which are more specialized and tightly focused. GUNS & AMMO, however, always seems to have something of interest even to many of these more specialized members of the shooting public.

I like GUNS & AMMO and I gave it five stars.

Shortly after ordering Guns & Ammo at what I thought was the best price I discovered that the card inside the magazine offers a better price. I tried canceling the order with Amazon nine hours after I placed it but it was too late. I'm simply posting this so others will know that you can get Guns & Ammo for $10 per year via the card in the magazine.

Guns and Ammo

Out of all the gun magazines out there, I believe that Guns and Ammo (G&A) is the best. I'm getting a subscription for my stepson this Christmas ( I'll get it sent to me so that I can read it first and then give it to him each month),

Highly recommended for gun enthusiasts.

Want Guns & Ammo (1-year auto-renewal) Discount?

Everything is the best, but nothing is the worst in this magazines opinon. All of the firearms are great, none of them are bad. They never have any side by side reviews either. What they do have is alot of advertisements. At least one half of the magazine is junk mail.

America - National Catholic Weekly

America - National Catholic WeeklyI really enjoy America Magazine. I just finished my first year at a Jesuit university. I participate actively in Campus Ministry and also advocate social justice initiatives. Often, I lack the time to keep up with the news, and rarely hear about less publicized social issues around the world. America really analyzes the world situation and presents on social issues both domestic and abroad. Additionally, the magazine speaks to current Catholic issues, including liturgy, beliefs, current events, literature, vocations, and upcoming Sunday readings. A family friend gave me a subscription as a high school graduation present. With no doubt in my mind, this is the best magazine I have ever subscribed to. Even if you are not Catholic, the magazine offers fantastic articles on world news and social issues.

A popular yet serious magazine with a long history supporting and guiding Catholic America, this magazine continues its historic commitment to excellence, orthodoxy and the full realm of Catholic dogma and beliefs.

America is a valuable and intelligent and prayerful addition to any truly Catholic household, offerd here at an affordable price. Great reading for all your family and sustenance for your soul upon our journey as Pilgrim Church. Let us get there all together in peace and in justice.

America is a wonderful magazine. Each issue has articles about news throughout the Catholic Church, investigations into alleviating poverty in America and around the world, and invigorating perspectives on scripture. Some may say it's too "liberal" but I appreciate the Jesuit order as they've always appreciated an intelligent, contemplative approach to issues within and outside of the church. I've read other Catholic magazines, and none of them come close to the quality of the writing found in America.

The magazine is introducing a new Editor. The outgoing Editor replaced an excellent Editor who understood that Catholics no longer receive their education from stained glass windows. Papal pressure forced him out. Perhaps the new Editor will return the magazine to a forum for discussion of philosophy and theology as they relate to the current human conditions.

This is another sad endeavor by the Jesuits. Ignatius of Loyola and the early Jesuits were fierce defenders of the Faith and the Holy Father. How times have changed. This magazine is more concerned with the secular realm and appeasing liberals than it is to spreading the Faith.

Guitar Aficionado (1-year)

Guitar Aficionado"Guitar Aficionado" is an interesting periodical about fine and unusual guitars, and the guitarists who collect, cherish, and play them. It's not exclusively a guitar magazine, as it goes off on tangents largely related to affluent lifestyles (e.g. topics like the world's best coffee, ten cars to covet between $50,000 and $500,000, etc.) which is the reason I docked it a star. Don't get me wrong, I'm interested in the topics at hand, but there are so many interesting guitars and guitarists out there that I'm not sure that more guitar coverage here wouldn't be a better move...of course I am savvy enough to realize that that market is already being addressed by other fine magazines, and "Guitar Aficionado" does need a marketing niche of its own. It is just my personal preference.

Now that I have quibbled, let me say that I really like this magazine. The coverage of the exotic and unique in the guitar world is compelling, and the coverage of artists both past and present is always interesting. It is a striking magazine visually with great illustrations and well-written pieces addressing lesser-known facets of the six-string kingdom. A new issue in the mailbox is like a Christmas present; not only do you not know what's going to be in it, you know you don't know and the anticipation is sometimes palpable.

I like "Guitar Aficionado," and recommend it to people who want a more novel approach to musical journalism.
