Tired of Car Magazines that are little more than thinly veiled advertisments for parts manufacturers? So-called "Tech" articles that are long on flash, but short on detail? Classic Motorsports (and it's sister publication, Grassroots Motorsports) are independently owned. They are not part of some huge media conglomerate. It's owned and written by real gearheads, and it shows on every page.

We get several magazines at my house, I typically thumb through them, read an article or two, and they get thrown out. Last Christmas my wife bought me a two year subscription to Classic Motorsports. As a British car nut, I knew that Grassroots Motorsports had purchased British Car Magazine to form Classic Motorsports but had not read the new magazine.

Classic Motorsports has every bit of the coverage on British cars that Brit Car did, the bonus is the coverage of cars I haven't read about. I find myself looking forward to reading about old Alfas, Datsuns and Volvos on top of my beloved British cars. There is coverage on the US cars, but the balance is dead on.

So if you like classic sports cars, and are looking for information outside of the typical pony car mags, check out Classic Motorsports. Every issue I find that I read every article, and reread many. Classic Motorsports was my best Christmas present of 2005.

Ok, I love cars but when I read some car magazines I'm left feeling like I could never afford to drive those cars. I wonder how many people find a review of a $125K car worth while..... If you have that kind of disposable funds do you really care what some editor says about the car?

This magazine and its sister publication is for guys like me who want to know how they can be part of the sport without using the kids college fund!

Ok, now the negative.....it only comes out 8 times a year!

Classic Motorsports Magazine and its sister publication Grassroots Motorsports are in my mind two of the best automotive publications out there. The articles are very informative, and written in a way that any enthusiast will enjoy them. No matter what their level of ability is. Reading these two magazines is like sitting in the garage listening to a friend tell you of their latest automotive adventures. This in itself would be enough to make them a must buy for me.

I used to have to buy British magazines to get information on the classic cars that I was interested in. I still buy them, but Classic Motorsports has been added to my 'must buy' list each month. Why? It's the only American classic car magazine that focuses on my interestsclassic European sports cars in America. The mix is always interesting, the articles informative, the editorial columns are entertaining and the photography is terrific. Couldn't ask for a better magazine to serve the needs of the classic sports car community in the US. Now that they are expanding to do more coverage of Japanese cars as well it just keeps getting better.

Vacations

I've been getting 1 yr subscriptions to several vacation magazines to try them out so I recently got this one. I was a bit irked when the majority of it was ad after ad after ad and almost all of them are for vacationstogo.com. It seems like the magazine and the web site are related. I gave this 3 stars because I kinda like looking at some of the ads to see what's out there but it gets old real quick. I would recommend getting a single copy from a book store or from the magazine's website itself before committing to a full year.

Coping With Allergies & Asthma

Good information, but not a real "glossy" magazine. A little thin, I think (there's a lot more that could be included)

After reading the first couple of issues that I received, I did have some questions for my allergist.

I really enjoy America Magazine. I just finished my first year at a Jesuit university. I participate actively in Campus Ministry and also advocate social justice initiatives. Often, I lack the time to keep up with the news, and rarely hear about less publicized social issues around the world. America really analyzes the world situation and presents on social issues both domestic and abroad. Additionally, the magazine speaks to current Catholic issues, including liturgy, beliefs, current events, literature, vocations, and upcoming Sunday readings. A family friend gave me a subscription as a high school graduation present. With no doubt in my mind, this is the best magazine I have ever subscribed to. America is a wonderful magazine. Each issue has articles about news throughout the Catholic Church, investigations into alleviating poverty in America and around the world, and invigorating perspectives on scripture. Some may say it's too "liberal" but I appreciate the Jesuit order as they've always appreciated an intelligent, contemplative approach to issues within and outside of the church. I've read other Catholic magazines, and none of them come close to the quality of the writing found in America.

The magazine is introducing a new Editor. The outgoing Editor replaced an excellent Editor who understood that Catholics no longer receive their education from stained glass windows. Papal pressure forced him out. Perhaps the new Editor will return the magazine to a forum for discussion of philosophy and theology as they relate to the current human conditions.

This is another sad endeavor by the Jesuits. Ignatius of Loyola and the early Jesuits were fierce defenders of the Faith and the Holy Father. How times have changed. This magazine is more concerned with the secular realm and appeasing liberals than it is to spreading the Faith.

Monde Diplomatique - France

Le Monde Diplomatique is unsurpassed in the french and english news media as a unique source of timely information from throughout the world. I highly encourage reading it, for much of its content is not only high quality but difficult to find elsewhere.

Neo-Opsis Science Fiction Magazine

This is my new favorite SF mag. On one hand, it has the best of new voices from around the English-speaking world (Canada, UK, Australia, USA), so you get a lot of different takes on the genre. On the other hand, "Neo-Opsis" isn't produced by some corporate publishing entity. It's just two people, a husband and wife team. She does all the artwork, which is professional quality, and he writes articles and very quirky editorials. It's a small press science fiction magazine.

This is good, folks. I have only seen one issue of this magazine but am VERY pleased. I used to subscribe to Asimov's and think I will try this one out as well now. The stories range in tone lighter read or "heavier" read, fantasy or hard science fiction and there is also coverage of current science and environmental issues/ concerns. The mix is very successful and contributing writers are from, literally, around the world. It is published in Canada was told (by the bookseller at least) that it won the Canadian equivalent of a Hugo Award. They call it the Prix Aurora Award up there.
