Good Old Boat

The founders picked their tagline well. This magazine truly is for those of us who own, upgrade and maintain boats. Loads of information and tips to help you with chores you have to deal with, and ideas on how to add neat features you'd never have thought of until you saw them here. Even the letters to the editors are content-rich. In addition to 'projects' the magazine includes a fair share of seamanship and techniques articles, and instruction on boat design & trade-offs. It is all very informative, useful, readable and relevant. There is a lot of content that applies equally well to power boaters.

This magazine is fairly expensive on a per issue basis when you compare it with the competition, but the quality of the content makes it a BEST VALUE. I currently subscribe to 5 sailing mags, and if I have to cut any Good Old Boat will be the last to go. Unlike all the other magazines, I save all the issues and am in the process of acquiring the back issues on CD for future reference.

Good old boat is the real stuff. If you're interested in maintaining or fixing up an old boat (it's mostly sailboats), or if you're interested in seeing how people do these projects, this is the ONLY magazine written for most of us, who just can't write a check to a boatyard for everything we do. You may enjoy looking at the other magazines for the boat you'll probably never own, but in Good Old Boat you'll see the boats that the majority of us actually have. A lot of classic plastic boats, with some reviews and some design articles.

Edited and written by boaters for boaters, I have gotten Good Old Boat since it first came out, and it's only gotten better over time. Most subscribers read it cover to cover, even if they aren't doing a big project!

I have subscribed to all the magazines over the years, but this is the only one I continue to get.

We have read Good Old Boat magazine for years and find it a wealth of information for DIY boat projects. I enjoy the fact that the editors mix up the topics from diesel and gas engines, electronics and navigational equipment, boat design, anchoring, sewing projects and even recipes. My husband and I enjoy being "hands on" with our boat chores. You provide a great resource for me to glean great ideas to make our vessel a unique and comfortable little yacht. The advertisers you see in Good Old Boat are companies I spend my boat dollars with. Glad they are there to keep us all afloat.

You say that your magazine is the boat magazine for the rest of us. Well, thanks for your informative and easy to understand journal. We look forward to each new copy. We will see ya out there.

Good Old Boat is the only magazine that gives us average sailors what we need and want to know. We're not rich and will never go to some tropical,island unless we're on a cruise boat. Just help us keep our old boat running and fill us in on places we can actually afford to go,to. I've had about every boating magazine and this is the best without filling up with advertising .

Great magazine I was a little concerned about getting the magazine as I had never heard of it nor seen it in a book store before. The articles are first rate and are written in a manor for both beginners and old salts. I would highly recommend this magazine.

Men of Integrity

Imagine "Our Daily Bread," written in a more contemporary tone, slanted for a male audience. Then add stiff subscription ads. That's "Men of Integrity."

"Men of Integrity" is an anecdotal, vignette-driven daily devotional magazine. Like "Our Daily Bread," it takes the reader into a Scripture with some challenges. It is not as deep as "My Utmost for His Highest," or as spiritually pushing, but it does serve a good purpose.

Topics in the issue in my hand include racism, reconciliation, marital infidelity, corruption, children and fatherhood, profanity, commitment to attending church, and temptation. A weekly roundup sums up each week with questions to remind the reader.

For the man on the go, the one who is not ready or willing to read Scripture at length, this is perfect. It is small, slipping easily into a pocket for lunchtime or train-ride reading. It is bimonthly, and supplies two months worth of devotionals.

A thoughtful man could spend 30 minutes on each day's chapter, reading through the biblical passages and thinking through the questions. A casual reader will finish it in five minutes.

Cobranded by "Promises Keepers," Christianity Today holds true to its mission, "To engage, encourage, and equip the church worldwide, sharing the depth and transforming power of the Gospel as it permeates all spheres of life."

The only real negative is the ad cards stitched in. Those can be ripped out, and tossed away.

I fully recommend subscribing to "Men of Integrity."

Like the other reviewer mentioned, this is a small devotional style publication. It is similar in nature to the "Daily Bread" devotional booklets, perhaps 4x6 inches in size. The content was fine, but we were not looking for a devotional, but an actual Mens Magazine.

I sent this to my nephew who has been sitting in prison for awhile. He wrote me a letter and thanked me profusely.

I love it that Amazon has the approval to deliver to the prisons, it makes it so easy to reach out to loved ones who are hurting and need to be healed, before they get back out in the world.

Neo-Opsis Science Fiction Magazine

This is my new favorite SF mag. On one hand, it has the best of new voices from around the English-speaking world (Canada, UK, Australia, USA), so you get a lot of different takes on the genre. On the other hand, "Neo-Opsis" isn't produced by some corporate publishing entity. It's just two people, a husband and wife team. She does all the artwork, which is professional quality, and he writes articles and very quirky editorials. It's a small press science fiction magazine.

This is good, folks. I have only seen one issue of this magazine but am VERY pleased. I used to subscribe to Asimov's and think I will try this one out as well now. The stories range in tone lighter read or "heavier" read, fantasy or hard science fiction and there is also coverage of current science and environmental issues/ concerns. The mix is very successful and contributing writers are from, literally, around the world. It is published in Canada was told (by the bookseller at least) that it won the Canadian equivalent of a Hugo Award. They call it the Prix Aurora Award up there.
