Mineralogical Record

Mineralogical RecordI'm into Gemstones and Jewelry Making. My husband is into all types of geology, and he collects mineral specimens. We both love this magazine!!! It is fantastic as the pictures and full detail articles are outstanding. Those pictures, though, really speak for themselves. It's almost like holding the mineral specimen in your own hands....and it's also finding out what's happening on general in the gem/geology world.

Besides, we got so much stuff with this first magazine, a free CD, and other welcome gifts. Even opportunities to order older magazines on specific topics...we've got a few that look very, very tempting.

So far, we are really enjoying this professional magazine. The magazine sells itself. I can't imagine that we'll ever give up this magazine. This is one that you start collecting in your bookcase. The quality is just first rate and exceptionally impecable.

Thanks so much E & C

If you are interested in minerals, this is a great mixture between the hobby and scientific journal. In-Depth profiles of individual mineral locations, special issues, occasionally a complete extra issue as a supplement. The last couple issues have had DVDs from Blue Cap Productions that were $20 each, just thrown in for free because of advertising sponsors. I've been subscribing for the past 7 years.

Excellent photography and articles of some of the most spectacular minerals in the world and where they came from. Photography for this magazine is all of the highest level, displaying world class specimens as works of art. Almost all of the articles are written at a level that anyone with a bit of geology can understand. In addition, many of them are very well researched and would be at home in the more hardcore scientific journals.

San Diego Magazine (1-year auto-renewal)

San Diego MagazineThis is my second year with this magazine. I think it is very well done all things considered.

The restaurant guides and experiential commentary are well worth the cost alone.

This is good humored and paints a great picture of San Diego.

Just about every time I read the issue I leave with a feeling of excitement for my city. Expectation. Adventure. Life waiting to happen.

Keep it up guys...and add more adventuresome material if you please. There are crazy fun things to do in the city like beach side hiking+yoga, horseback riding and polo games, archery in the hills, city adventure races, wine tasting events and other off the wall awesome San Diego adventures to write about.

A magazine subscription is what it is. I like San Diego magazine because it's my hometown and I get my subscription on time every month. Good deal!

Bookforum

BookforumBOOKFORUM is not necessarily a mainstream periodical about books but it does furnish a wide variety of articles, columns, interviews and reviews which will satisfy diverse tastes. It is published quarterly by ARTFORUM INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE, INC. A recent issue contains articles on Ezra Pound, Albert Camus, Jean-Paul Sartre, Georges Bataille, Murray Kempton, James T. Farrell, Aby Warburg, Woody Guthrie, Valerie Solanas and many other notables from the world of arts and letters. The magazine's writing is uniformly excellent. The contributors are mostly academics, editors, poets or authors such as Guy Davenport, Sven Bickerts, Marjorie Perloff, Lee Smith, Thomas Crow and Avital Ronell. BOOKFORUM is an interesting and engaging publication now in its eleventh year and I expect it will continue to have a devoted following for the foreseeable future.

First and foremost, this quarterly magazine is about art. Coffee table art books finally get the space that they deserve in both the reviews and in the interviews. Next in line are novels and the best fresh fiction on shelves today. Culture, interviews and letters follow closely behind.

Though the top publishers (HarperCollins, Simon&Schuster, Knopf, etc.) get their books reviewed, it is refreshing to see the the number of "small press" and "academic press" books that are also reviewed. The reviewers are from various walks of literary life (a writer, a poet, a Sr. editor, a contributing editor, a professor etc.) and almost always the reviews are engaging as well as informative.

If you like mind engaging writers, or are a fan of coffee table art books, you will not be disappointed with this highly recommended magazine.

Classic Bike Guide

Classic Bike GuideWhen I first saw the Classic Bike Guide magazine I must admit I had my doubts. But then I bought a copy and was blown away by the read. It covered all the trully classic bikes from AJS to Norton to Triumph and so on. The articles are at just the right depth, not to bland and providing enough technical information to make the true enthusiast (like my goodself long live the Sunbeam) salivate.

You have got to try this mag.
