Luerzers International Archive : Ads TV & Posters Worldwide

Luerzers International Archive : Ads TV & Posters WorldwideThis is by far my favorite magazine. Most other magazines dealing with graphic design and related fields are mostly ads for printers, paper, stock photography and very little content and maybe a few articles here or there.

luerzers archive is all meat. I get to see the hotest work from around the world. I can always count on luerzers archive for inspiration and to keep me grounded when school tries to throw their biased cookie cutter crap at me.

Different people buy this for different reasons. I buy it for the great photography that actually ends up in client's hands. Really good stuff. Even though it is international, much of it is generic and the text is English. Nice large format, printed very well, with line cuts near the binding reminding you that you can cut the pages out and use them for reference. Good for the professional and the hobbyist. Pick up a copy and consider a subscription. Good stuff.

I discovered this publication by chance at a Borders when I was looking for something to kill time with.

The adds are interesting. There are lots of them. For people who prefer to look at the pictures (like me) this is the publication to have. There are lots of adds, it's a fairly hefty book and is worth the money for the subscription.

As a photographer I find the images interesting, creative and very cutting edge. The adds cover everything from photography to digital manipulation to drawings. I highly recommend this publication!

Bee Culture

Bee CultureThis magazine was a christmas gift for my father. He said that it is very in depth and informative to the goings on about beekeeping. He enjoys reading this magazine very much, and it is understandable instead of a lot of scientific journal writing that is difficult to read into.I am very pleased that it is not scientific enough that you need to be a doctor to read it and still gets to the heart of the content.

Very informative. Easy to read, not too technical...but useful and again, informative.

Ocean Navigator

Ocean NavigatorI just got a subscription and paid $35 for it as opposed to the now price of $25. My bad for not waiting, but what worries me is that when I checked my subscriptions it shows that first copy delivery date is unknown as the publisher cannot guarrantee when the next copy will be produced. This would indicate to me that the publisher is on the edge of shutting down the magazine or it might be a very sporadic issue at best. In the notes it says that this information is on the web page but I checked and nothing is mentioned there to indicate that the magazine may or may not be printed and will have an irregular schedule. This is rather annoying since it is a fairly expensive one. Secondly, unlike other sailing magazines that I get there is no option to cancel or get a refund so let the buyer beware. I will withhold further judgement until I actually get a copy and will post when I do. Hope this helps others, especialy those looking at buying a subscription as a gift for someone.

Mineralogical Record

Mineralogical RecordI'm into Gemstones and Jewelry Making. My husband is into all types of geology, and he collects mineral specimens. We both love this magazine!!! It is fantastic as the pictures and full detail articles are outstanding. Those pictures, though, really speak for themselves. It's almost like holding the mineral specimen in your own hands....and it's also finding out what's happening on general in the gem/geology world.

Besides, we got so much stuff with this first magazine, a free CD, and other welcome gifts. Even opportunities to order older magazines on specific topics...we've got a few that look very, very tempting.

So far, we are really enjoying this professional magazine. The magazine sells itself. I can't imagine that we'll ever give up this magazine. This is one that you start collecting in your bookcase. The quality is just first rate and exceptionally impecable.

Thanks so much E & C

If you are interested in minerals, this is a great mixture between the hobby and scientific journal. In-Depth profiles of individual mineral locations, special issues, occasionally a complete extra issue as a supplement. The last couple issues have had DVDs from Blue Cap Productions that were $20 each, just thrown in for free because of advertising sponsors. I've been subscribing for the past 7 years.

Excellent photography and articles of some of the most spectacular minerals in the world and where they came from. Photography for this magazine is all of the highest level, displaying world class specimens as works of art. Almost all of the articles are written at a level that anyone with a bit of geology can understand. In addition, many of them are very well researched and would be at home in the more hardcore scientific journals.

While I agree there are some very good articles, I find this magazine to be way too promotional with most of the promotions pointing to RAND products and classes. The overpromoting overshadows the articles. Not worth the money to me.

Paris Review

Paris ReviewIf you were locked in an attic by cruel parents, and allowed to read only one literary journal, The Paris Review would entertain you with its sword-slicing poetry, move you with soul revealing fiction, and show you the bare-knuckled truth about human nature in its non-fiction. You would emerge from that attic, years later, better educated and aware than 80% of the planet. The other 20%; you could hold your own.

The writing in the Paris Review is probably unmatched elsewhere in a popularly available magazine. Other magazines and reviews sometimes have top quality pieces, maybe one or two excellent pieces in each issue, but I found that the high standards of quality in the Paris Review is very rarely matched. The Paris Review unlike most publications is systematically excellent.

The fictional stories are interesting and seemingly unique. The poetry is vivid and compelling. The interviews and non-fiction pieces also are no less enticing, excellent and important. If you are interested in writing, in reading compelling fiction and non-fiction, or the creative arts generally, I strongly recommend this magazine.

Buy Paris Review Now

This is one of my favorite subscriptions and I look forward to my quarterly issue. For those who think that $12 an issue is a bit high: there is almost no advertising in this periodical. There are a few ads (typically two near the front and the back cover) from publishers or Chanel, or something else classy. No ads fast food, deodorant, etc...

What this means is that this periodical must survive with almost all of their profits from readers and subscribers.

Onto content. Every single month there averages about 200 pages + of poetry, short stories, essays, and interviews. The content is varied and of excellent quality. Many works are from contemporary and rising authors but several are from older and even deceased writers (such as an unpublished work of Bolano's being printed in four parts in four issues). Again, the content varies but is of high quality. The last issue had interviews with a couple of iconic science fiction writers (I use the term science fiction loosely): Samuel Delaney and William Gibson. These interviews were so well executed and written that I now have novels from both authors, as well as some of the authors they mentioned, on my library queue. In a previous issue I read a Franzen interview and decided that I needed to read his novels (glad I did), as well as a Ray Bradbury interview that rekindled my interest in Fahrenheit 451.

Some of the stories and poetry deal with real issues: sex, drugs, death, life; so this is not all sunshine and happy unicorns. There are a few of those for optimists, but many of the stories and poems are dark, depressing, and real. In their pages I have discovered a wide range of literature and I will continue to support their periodical as long as they maintain their high standards for quality literature.

I also recommend Ploughshares, Harvard Review, and Tin House. (In case you are a book NUT like me)

People en Espanol (1-year auto-renewal)

People en EspanolThis magazine is wonderful if you are looking for a magazine that is easy to read, entertaining and yet informative all in one. It is geared toward the Latin community but I think it could also interest anyone who speaks Spanish and has a love for the culture. I started buying this magazine regularly in 1998 and I am still a fan of People en espanol. At first glance one may think that it's the Spanish version the weekly People magazine in English but believe me the only element in common is the title. This magazine has a section on "la farándula" and "en familia" which I find always nice to read and sometimes there are good articles about infants and kids that give helpful tips about childcare. There are other informative sections that you can read according to your personal preference. Lastly, the quality of the Spanish is very good in comparison to other magazines in its class in which I have found major grammar errors on a regular basis. This magazine is worth every cent and can be read through an through.

I must admit that I got hooked on this magazine after seeing a tiny picture of Juanes on the cover. I love his music and I wanted to know more about his life. My subscription started too late for his famous cover shot! ¡Que lastima! I missed several issues because they were sold out at the hispanic tiendas.

If you are learning español and you don't bother to learn the pop culture(s) of modern day Latin America you are not making the grade! In the office, our hispanic customers appreciate my interest in the popular entertainers from their countries. Textbooks have gotten better, but People En Español is always current. The grammar, vocabulary and reading practice will greatly improve your comprehension and you'll actually do it because it is fun and interesting.

I only have one minor complaint. I wish the Disfrútalo section would cover more films made by Spanish directors and featuring Spanish actors. Award-winning and nominated films made in Spanish aren't covered often enough and with enough depth. I would have loved to have seen a feature article on The Sea Inside or Maria Full of Grace.

As someone who is trying to learn Spanish, I am always looking for some good materials to practice with. This is perfect! They have very interesting articles (I think it is less 'fluffy' than the English version) and everything is in Spanish! They focus on Hispanic celebrities (from the U.S. and from other countries) and they focus more on family than beauty. They also review books, movies and television, which I really enjoy reading. One major difference between this and the English version is that People en Español only comes out once a month, whereas the English version comes out every week. Actually, there are only 11 issues per year, because they always combine December and January. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and can't wait to improve my Spanish!

This is a great magazine , much better than the english version, thier edition "50 bellos" , is the best. They really know how to pick beautiful people. The latest edition of "most beautiful" in english is really disappointing. I suggest People en Espanol, el mas mejor.

Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion

Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion
  • Revised Edition

This book is used primarily as text book in most Tradition Schools

of Chinese Medicine in the western world. It's a good translation.

It has good diagrams and charts of meridians. The binding quality

could be stronger. The cloth and glue crack and come apart more

easily than western medical text books.

American Photo (1-year auto-renewal)

American Photo"American Photo" is a very well produced magazine that focuses (no pun intended) on fashion, professional, and high end photography. Mixed into the pages are a lot of truely good photos, book and product reviews, and interviews with artists and professionals. If you are serious about photography, the magazine is worth the subscription price.

That being said one note of caution needs to be made, there are a lot "artistic" images that can be disturbing and there is a lot nudity mixed in almost gratuitously. I have no real problem with either for adults, but do not leave this one where my kids might pick it up.

Overall, a high quality magazine! Recommended

This is a magazine for serious photographers and others interested in the art of photography. There is little in it for techno-geeks, gadget-hounds or the snap shooter who only takes his camera to the annual family reunion. But if you're serious about photography, this magazine contains is a lot of good photography and excellent profiles of professional phtographers and how they work.

A reasonably well balanced magazine. Better than Popular Photography in terms of content in that it showcases works of pros, talented amateurs and important historic photographic artists. Be reminded this magazine is published every ***other*** month (6 issues per year)

Quite often resorts to scantily clad women on the cover to get your attention.

American Photo showcases master photographers and their work. Yes, this sometimes means nudity, but in many place and for many thousands of years that has simply been a form of art. If you want to see great photos, on a beautiful glossy finish, pick up this magazine. If you want to know how the photographer snapped that shot this is not the magazine for you. Personally, I find this magazine as a source of inspiration. I page through, finding ideas along the way and the magazine is priced well for this purpose.

I'm a armature photographer who uses photography as my creative outlet. I have browsed through American Photo Magazine while at Borders or Barnes and Noble and found it to be a very well written Magazine. After subscribing and being able to really take the time to sit and read the articles thoroughly, I find the articles and tips very helpful. One of the articles was about pinhole photography. I was so pumped by the article and images that I ordered one and started shooting pinhole photography myself, with great results. I think if a magazine can motivate you to become a better photographer and try new things , that it has done what it has set out to do. Great magazine and well written articles made to instruct and inspire!
