I've read many issues of The Aurorean, and it's always been a pleasure. The editor has a knack for choosing thoughtful, evocative, interesting, and accessible poems for her magazine. I'm not a poet (and I know it), but I always enjoy Ms. Brackett-Vincent's selections.

Black and White Photography

I have to recommend this magazine to anyone who has a love for photography. This magazine I read cover to cover and can't wait to receive the next one. It has very worthwhile articles and as they state " stunning monochrome images, exciting examples of work by the world's top photographers, technical articles about developing and printing, (this I especially enjoy, advice and examples from the experts!)and exclusive opportunites for reader participation." Truly this one is not to be missed. It's out of the United Kingdom so the quality is superb. Happy clicking.

This is deffinitely worth reading if you like B&W photography.

Four Wheeler (1-year auto-renewal)

Subscribed for almost 10 years now. Great mag. Good read. Covers a wide array of off roading from extreme rocks, to super fast dunes, to stock SUV's going over tame trails, it has something for everyone.

This magazine contains a lot of useful information for people who will spend a lot of time modifying their vehicle. I have only recieved two issues so far and I have enjoyed reading the articles. I really like to go off-road but I like to do it so I can get somewhere amazing rather than to see what my vehicle can crawl over. I think this magazines serves the latter. But then I don't think any four-wheel drive magazine really caters to my interests perfectly.

The magazine covers a lot of different types of four wheel drive vehicles. It has relevant ads (we all like to drool over the newest gadgets, right?)

What it needs are some articles on guns. and maybe touch on huntin' dogs every now and then. It's definitely a good read and worth the few dollars they charge for each issue.

Phoenix Home & Garden

I have subscribed to 'Phoenix Home & Garden' for many years, and I look forward to every issue. There are loads of useful articles about living in Arizona (or any desert environment) including realty, water conservation, and, of course, design. The magazine has great examples of outstanding Southwest architecture and design in every issue, though I wish they would talk more about sub-$1,000,000 homes. All in all, the text and articles are well done, consistently informative, and beautifully illustrated with outstanding color photographs.

The bad news about 'Phoenix Home & Garden' is similar to that for 'Architectural Digest': too many ads. The magazine is simply gargantuan and an enormous percentage of it is taken up with advertising, some of which is only tangentially related to the focus of the magazine. While the content of the magazine is quite good, it is very annoying turning through page after page of ads to finally reach the next article. This unfortunate trend makes the magazine much less reader-friendly, and is responsible for the reduction to three stars in my rating.

Phoenix Home and Garden is easily one of the best "home and garden" type magazines currently available. I highly recommend it to anyone with a flair (or even a modicum of interest) for design and a desire to live comfortably in a low maintenance home situated in ANY desert environment. They've left nothing out!

A typical issue might include several dynamic design solutions, i.e. for custom lighting, creative storage, etc.

In depth interviews with architects and designers who bring decades of experience to the table and offer hot new ideas for age old problems. Feature stories showcasing creative renovations or simple design solutions that bring life back to tired, sun baked Arizona homes are always full of wonderful surprises that range from easy do at home to the more difficult and challanging projects for professionals.

There are still more interviews with interesting people "in the news" and terrific stories about some of AZ's more facinating historical personages and locales. You'll find a variety of miscellaneous interest stories about upcoming exciting events to attend in Arizona. In fact, the last several pages of the magazine are dedicated to hundreds of listings (and contact information) for places to go, things to do, and people to see, including (but not limited to) benifits and fund raisers, wine tastings, and tours. There are pages upon pages of listings for the various theatre groups, opera performances, symphony and ballet performances, as well as numerous listings directed towards childrens performing arts. I particularly appreciate the listings for the exhibits and shows at the many museums and cultural arts centers. There are listings for special events, fairs, dance and music concerts and cultural festivals, including the much anticipated Sadona Jazz Festival (a personal favorite)! The featured artists and magnificant art exhibitions at the numerous gallerys and museums are also listed, sometimes with showcase insets to wet your appetite.

Awards cerimonies, marketplaces, planetarium shows, expos, golf tours, the list goes on and on.

Of course no desert home and garden publication would be complete without the requisite articles about the use of outdoor architure to capture and frame the scenic desert mountains, or the fabulous landscaping ideas that include low maintainence gardening tips (that everyone can appreciate). Even several of AZ's garden societies are listed with their contact information.

I always look forward to trying any of the dozens of recipes from some of Arizona's popular restaurants and world famous chefs. Hundreds of restaurants are listed by catagory, i.e. international, continental, french, italian, mexican, southwestern, asian, etc. You will also find a few schedules for cooking classes hosted by some of AZ's most prestigeous culinary schools and/or chefs.

Special editions, including the popular Physicians issue, are practical and extremely handy to have as convenient reference guides.

All in all, this is THE magazine!

We purchased Phoenix Home & Garden as a gift for our daughter last Christmas. Our daughter is a designer in the Phoenix area, loves the publication and uses it frequently in her work. The last purchase was a renewal for Christmas 2008.

The only problem was a coordination issue between Amazon and the publisher. After renewing I received an email stating the subscription order had been received and the first issue should be received in October. The original subscription did not expire until January. I had to make a couple call to find out the transaction would have been handled as a renewal in spite of what the email said. I think such information should be made available at the time of renewal.

I am restoring a 1928 Spanish Revival home in San Antonio, Texas. This magazine often features the classic adobe style and a modern interpretation of this style, but I can often find great sources for materials to be used in my house, including light fixtures, doors, windows, etc... In the end, my house will not look like these homes, but I am continuing to purchase this magazine for the rich network of sources and ideas on its pages. Highly recommended.

this is a book basically. This really should not be categorized here as a magazine subscription. My 9 year old love it and always has some fact to take about. Great up to date learning resource. This is only a book that covers whatever year it is dated.

Fly Fisherman (1-year auto-renewal)

If you want to read about Oprah's first cast, Jimmy Carter's secrets or Obama's first fish, this is the magazine for you. If you are looking for more then 5 pages of fly fishing substance, look elsewhere. I've subscribed to this magazine the past two years as well as a few others. This is consistently the poorest of the group. Short columns and poor articles make this a disappointing magazine.

One of the endearing features of the monthly magazine FLY FISHERMAN is its tag line: 'the leading magazine of the quiet sport'.

'Not a bad moniker for the anthology of fisherman's travelogue, skills-and-techniques instruction, environmental issues, and fly fishing news (yes, there *is* such a thing) that is packed into this publication. This reviewer recently took his first steps towards fulfilling the life long dream of learning to fly fish by exploring Montana's Big Horn river with fisherman-philosopher Bob Krumm. I hooked some gorgeous trout but I'm the one who got truly hooked.

I'm already the new owner of my first fly rod and reel. There's no turning back now. FLY FISHERMAN will go with me.

The beauty of this magazine and the 'quiet' sportsmen and women whose lives it nourishes is the breadth of their appreciation for the fishing experience. It's not only about the fish. If you are one of the fortunates who knows what a midge is, you probably didn't know how *much* there is to know--and report--about midges. The same can be said for access rights to rivers, water quality, human efforts to improve streams, and the art-and-science that go into catching--and usually releasing--intelligent trout.

It's a very cool magazine and, for the price, quite a catch.

This really is the Cosmo of Fly fishing magazines. There is little content that will actually help you out on the water, and the articles are fairly boring and uninteresting. When the "Gear For The New Year" article contains just three pieces of gear that are super expensive, I knew this was a yuppie publication. When the issue comes in, I spend a few minutes reviewing it, hoping that it will be better, then it usually ends up in the magazine bin with all of the other fodder. I paid 20.00 for the subscription, and I will not renew when it expires.

American Photo (1-year auto-renewal)

"American Photo" is a very well produced magazine that focuses (no pun intended) on fashion, professional, and high end photography. Mixed into the pages are a lot of truely good photos, book and product reviews, and interviews with artists and professionals. If you are serious about photography, the magazine is worth the subscription price.

That being said one note of caution needs to be made, there are a lot "artistic" images that can be disturbing and there is a lot nudity mixed in almost gratuitously. I have no real problem with either for adults, but do not leave this one where my kids might pick it up.

Overall, a high quality magazine! Recommended

This is a magazine for serious photographers and others interested in the art of photography. There is little in it for techno-geeks, gadget-hounds or the snap shooter who only takes his camera to the annual family reunion. But if you're serious about photography, this magazine contains is a lot of good photography and excellent profiles of professional phtographers and how they work.

A reasonably well balanced magazine. Better than Popular Photography in terms of content in that it showcases works of pros, talented amateurs and important historic photographic artists. Be reminded this magazine is published every ***other*** month (6 issues per year)

Quite often resorts to scantily clad women on the cover to get your attention.

American Photo showcases master photographers and their work. Yes, this sometimes means nudity, but in many place and for many thousands of years that has simply been a form of art. If you want to see great photos, on a beautiful glossy finish, pick up this magazine. If you want to know how the photographer snapped that shot this is not the magazine for you. Personally, I find this magazine as a source of inspiration. I page through, finding ideas along the way and the magazine is priced well for this purpose.

I'm a armature photographer who uses photography as my creative outlet. I have browsed through American Photo Magazine while at Borders or Barnes and Noble and found it to be a very well written Magazine. After subscribing and being able to really take the time to sit and read the articles thoroughly, I find the articles and tips very helpful. One of the articles was about pinhole photography. I was so pumped by the article and images that I ordered one and started shooting pinhole photography myself, with great results. I think if a magazine can motivate you to become a better photographer and try new things , that it has done what it has set out to do. Great magazine and well written articles made to instruct and inspire!

Cake Craft & Decoration

This is a great magazine for anybody who decorates. Easy to understand and good pictures and directions. The only draw back is the price, but I think it is worth it.

This is a very nice magazine. However, the Anglo American Media is another story. I telephoned in an order for multiple back issues of magazine listed available on their website. They have "If you prefer you can phone us on 00 44 (0) 1858 439605" on ordering back issues listed on their website. Was told by their operator via phone conversation that it takes 28 days for all order processing. After all long wait and hearing nothing from the company, I emailed requesting a status on my order. After alot of emails back and forth over multiple days, They could not find my order. On the last communication, their customer service "am extremely sorry, the contact for delivery to your location is as follows;

I bought the magazine subscription a WHILE back and has yet to receive an issue. It is very pricey and I thought it would be worth the price, if only I were able to have it! I contacted Amazon which then contacted them and have been told that sometime in late April the first issue of the magazine will arrive...I looked at many posts (sadly afterward) at cake central which had similar complaints. Save your money.
