This is by far my favorite magazine. Most other magazines dealing with graphic design and related fields are mostly ads for printers, paper, stock photography and very little content and maybe a few articles here or there.

luerzers archive is all meat. I get to see the hotest work from around the world. I can always count on luerzers archive for inspiration and to keep me grounded when school tries to throw their biased cookie cutter crap at me.

Different people buy this for different reasons. I buy it for the great photography that actually ends up in client's hands. Really good stuff. Even though it is international, much of it is generic and the text is English. Nice large format, printed very well, with line cuts near the binding reminding you that you can cut the pages out and use them for reference. Good for the professional and the hobbyist. Pick up a copy and consider a subscription. Good stuff.

I discovered this publication by chance at a Borders when I was looking for something to kill time with.

The adds are interesting. There are lots of them. For people who prefer to look at the pictures (like me) this is the publication to have. There are lots of adds, it's a fairly hefty book and is worth the money for the subscription.

As a photographer I find the images interesting, creative and very cutting edge. The adds cover everything from photography to digital manipulation to drawings. I highly recommend this publication!

Interesting, trendy ad work presented in a very nice magazine. Definitely worth the money. My husband is a photographer and this is one of his go-to magazines for inspiration.

Knitters

I've been knitting most of my life and have subscribed to this magazine for over 4 years. Each issue has a theme--cable patterns, stripes, unisex sweaters, colors, knitting for children, etc. I find that even if the theme doesn't interest me, the magazine is always worth perusing. Each issue includes a "how to" section that will satisfy even the most experienced knitters. Articles have covered knitting in darts, reversible cables, and several aspects of designing. Recently the magazine was improved by listing yarn weights as well as the original yarns used in the patterns, which makes substitutions much easier. Most of the patterns are sweaters in classic styles with a few modern designs thrown in. While not in every issue, there have been many children's sweaters included. Issues often include other items, such as hats, scarves, shawls, Christmas ornaments & decorations, purses, socks, gloves and mittens. The magazine has also featured several "great American afghans," providing a few block designs in each magazine. This is no granny-square afghan pattern. All patterns I have tried have been easy to follow, providing both written instructions and graphs.

I love this magazine for 3 reasons:

1) Most of the patterns have plus sizes, at least to 1X, but often 2X and 3X as well.

2) Patterns are designed to minimize sewing. Sweaters are usually knit in the round, and cardigan bodies are knit in one piece.

3) There's always a new technique or two featured. I learned how to do several advanced techniques from this magazine (e.g. entrelac, mosaic knitting, double-knitting), including some lesser known ones such as brioche patterns where multiple long yarn-over stitches are worked into eyelets within the lacework of the rows below ("Stripes à L`Orange" in issue K75 which you can preview on their web site the stitch pattern looks like maple leaves!).

I particularly love the format of patterns presented in the magazine--easy to follow, helpful sidebar with all the key info, and well written. They are presented just like in Sally Melville's Knit Stitch and Purl Stitch books, which I love (XRX publishes both the magazine and those books).

I find that there are many "how to" articles that help me as an advanced beginner/early intermediate knitter. Again, the instructions are clear, as are the accompanying graphics/photos. I am holding on to the articles that cover more advanced techniques, and will go back to them once I think I'm ready.

The only downside to this magazine for me is that there tend to be few patterns that I want to knit. This is purely a matter of taste; I highly recommend going to their website and checking through the archives to get a feel for the patterns. That said, the few I have made from Knitter's have been among my favorite items I've knit. I just made a sweater ("Swing Set") for my picky daughter from last fall's Knitter's, and she adores it. The whole process went smoothly from start to finish, and I love the results.

Lastly, I like the fact that this magazine offers a wide range of complexity levels in their patterns. There are always plenty of choices for knitters like me, who aren't up to anything too complex. I've tried Interweave Knits as well, and find that their patterns are mostly way too complex and intricate for me (also, the pattern format is difficult to follow, in my opinion). I only wish the patterns in Knitter's fit better with my personal style more often!

"Knitters" is my all around favorite knitting magazine. I've been reading it almost since the beginning and am a current subscriber. "Knitters" designers are some of the most knowledgeable creative in the business, and the patterns in each issue range from simple to complex. The designs may not be quite as trendy as those in "Vogue Knitting" (sometimes that's a plus) but they're generally stylish, wearable, and pleasantly challenging to knit. Each issue has a mix of articles that treat the featured techniques in depth and that deal with more general topics. I'm not an expert knitter by any means, but the projects I've done from "Knitters" have given me a much better understanding of the craft and a sense that I can successfully tackle projects that would have been too complex before. "Knitters" is a magazine that encourages me stretch my knitting muscles in a way that the other magazines don't.

While sometimes the designs in this knitting magazine are a bit wacky, the knitting know-how and articles on the craft are great. Even better, the photos, which are absolutely incredible. The new editor, Rick Mondragon, has come into his own and produced some really fine issues with many exciting projects small and large to knit. And Knitters sponsors the annual Stitches East, West, and (maybe still) Midwest conventions, where you can meet the designers, take classes and buy yarn at the Market. It's almost a cult.

Arthritis Today (1-year auto-renewal)

This magazine, Arthritis Today, is good--except they concentrate on RA. I have OA, fibromyalgia and osteoporosis. I'd like to see more on these diseases and less on RA.

Have trouble getting the magazines--they've missed 3 months this year alone.

I had been getting this magazine through the Arthritis Foundation but found it to be cheaper on amazon, especially this month with the extra $5.00 off! I am very grateful for this, as it is a good & helpful magazine but kind of expensive. However, the information contained in it is helpful for many different Arthritic conditions, including Fibromyalgia which I have in addition to some Arthritis.

I appreciate the basically upbeat & positive viewpoint of this magazine. It always provides a lift when it comes in the mail. The overall tone of the articles & information is informative & generally helpful, with features about recent research. I found one article that almost exactly replicated some medication information that my doctor had just told me. It was good to see that information in this publication & I brought it to show my doctor who seemed impressed with its accuracy. I would definitely recommend this magazine for anyone with most arthritic conditions. It makes life feel more "possible" when you feel down from pain.

I expected more content from this magazine. There are so many medication advertisements in every issue.

I am so frustrated with all the ads that I will not be renewing my subscription.

Before Amazon had added magazine subscriptions, I was a loyal subscriber to Arthritis Today because it is well written, up-to-date, and a most informative aid to those of us with arthritis and related diseases.

Since I am a loyal and frequent buyer from Amazon.com, I was very happy to renew my Arthritis Today subscription in addition to purchasing other products.

Every issue i get the first thing i do is sit down and tear out all the drug/pharmaceutical ads, and there are a lot of them. By the time i am done removing the ads there is almost nothing left of the magazine; very few articles in comparison to ads. And it is also true that their primary focus is RA, although they do mention Fibromyalgia and other rheumatic diseases in passing. I can't say i have really benefited much from having the magazine around.

German Life

I'm finally ordering a subscription to German Life magazine. I've been buying it on the newstand for at least six months (maybe closer to a year), so I must admit to myself that I like it.

This is definitely a magazine for the German-American lifestyle. Each issue has articles about destinations in Germany, about German crafts, or an event going on. But the publishers are well-aware that the audience is in North America. so there are articles about geneaology and other topics of interest to the folks back home. And it may be worth reading simply for the advertisements -plenty of companies selling German goods have ads in here, so you can find a source from which to buy a beer stein or knockwurst.

Don't expect great literature. This isn't the finest, deepest prose you'll encounter, but then that's not the point. It's an enjoyable read, particularly if you want to take a virtual trip to somewhere else.

This magazine has beautiful photography and excellent articles.

It covers all of German speaking Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) as well as covering German events in the United States.

There are often historical articles and nostalgic pieces as well as news stories and editorials. I especially like the travel advice as it is often for areas off the beaten path.

I end up reading it cover to cover each issue

I bought a subscription for my mother (Munchen born, still has accent) last year for christmas. I had never seen the magazine on a news stand, so I took a chance. She was very happy to get it and she said she liked the stories. Her complaint being that there wasn't enough in it to keep her interested or wanting a renewal. I glanced through a copy and echoed her review. She enjoyed the pictures and often took the magazine to work to show her co-workers places she had been etc.

This magazine is excellent for getting to know the real German culture from top to bottom. Many people who have lived or gone to Germany only know various parts of Germany. This magazine shows the whole country. It not only shows the culture and aspects of the country today, but also its past. It also gives resources for traveling, health, cooking, and various indigenous products of Germany. It is really a good find for those interested in Germany's wonderful culture. It is mostly written in English with one article written in German.

I saw this wonderful magazine at the newsstand. I liked it so much I sent in my subscription immediately. I look forward to each issue and read it from cover to cover. There are articles on notable German, Swiss, and Austrian destinations, customs, and events as well as articles featuring German American points of interest. The photography is great. The book reviews are always informative. I usually end up making the featured recipe and many have been excellent. German Life is a wonderful magazine for all German Americans interested in their heritage; a real gem.

Some of my fellow reviewers complain that the magazine's articles aren't substantive. Hogwash! I cannot believe the smallness of some people. I truly appreciate the succinctness of the features. If you want a tome on German culture, visit the library.
