Home Business Magazine (1-year auto-renewal)

Home Business MagazineHome Business Magazine is a publication aimed at those members of the general populace who either already own a home based business or who have an active interest in the subject and would like to pursue it further. This magazine contains articles relating to all facets of home business ownership from the initial setup all the way through to the payment of taxes at year end.

I read several different business magazines and many of them have to do with entrepreneurship. Home Business is the only one I read that is specifically devoted to starting a business in the home and, unfortunately, it has many flaws that prevent it from being the enjoyable and informative read that it otherwise could be. Probably the most annoying feature of this magazine is the articles themselves and their tendency to be written in a listtype format rather than in a userfriendly way. I realize that people like lists but Home Business takes this a little too far. It makes the magazine seem callous and unfriendlysomething you would consult in the same way you would an almanac. For example, it is common to find a one page article with a title like "Effective Ways to Design a Newspaper Ad", or "How to Obtain Quick Financing". In each instance, these articles will have a short opening consisting of a paragraph or two followed by a numbered listing of different methods/suggestions to solve the problem or answer the question. This makes the magazine read more like a reference guide than a piece of reading material.

Another thing that is annoying about this magazine is the endless advertising. Not only does it get out of hand, it also includes all sorts of ads that emphasize moneymaking schemes and other similar material. Advertisements with titles like "Really Lazy Guy's Incredible Little Secret Idea Can Make You Rich", "Free $9.95 Report Shows You How to Make a Fortune", and "Six Figures in Six Months" clutter the pages of this magazine with getrich quick garbage that everyone knows is unlikely to return even the cost of the introductory package.

Some parts of this magazine are more bearable than others and it's this handful of positive attributes that prevent me from giving this magazine a onestar rating. I like some of the success stories because they depict ordinary people who have succeeded at making a living with a homebased business. But even here, the stories are inconsistent. Some are educational in nature while others have little valuable information to share. And to make matters worse, they are far too shortusually covering only onehalf page each with a large advertisement taking up the space at the bottom of each page.

Speaking of the advertising, this magazine wrote the book on advertisement excess. Advertisements cover about 75 percent of the pages in each issue and it is rare to see even two pages in a row without some sort of advertisement. The ads are posted everywhere, often right in the middle of an article, and they distract greatly from the already limited enjoyment of the magazine.

This magazine is assembled together in such a way that it reads like a collection of articles taken from people in different parts of the country that were shuffled around and published in one magazine. In other words, this magazine has no continuity to it. It's like taking short articles from different business newspapers around the USA and then piecing them together into one magazine.

Starting a homebased business is a goal that many people set for themselves and there is always a need for some good, timely information when you find yourself in this situation. Home Business, unfortunately, doesn't perform its mission very well. If you dig deeply enough you can find a few good articles. But the majority is too impersonal and too shallow (not to mention smothered in advertisements) to make this magazine worth the trouble.

This magazine seems very cheesy to me. It is full of ads and has many typos. The 'stories' and articles were thrown together. It seems like each issue may have had 1 or 2 very small articles that were useful. I also noticed that after I subscribed to this magazine I started receiving all kinds of solicitations in the mail from different 'Start Your Own Business' companies. I'm positive they sell subscribers names.

Yes, it has some informative articles but just cant seem to "grab my attention" to keep viewing. Will not be re-ordering.

Don't be put off by HOME BUSINESS magazine's crammed look and its heavy advertisement content.

'Fact is, you get what you pay for. These features are what make this small-article publication cheap and easy to come by.

The magazine majors on the kind of one-off submissions that get sent in by aspiring writers and home entrepeneurs eager to cash in on their experience.

But that's not a bad thing. Many of us trying to accomplish entrepeneurial stuff in the same space we live in do well to harvest the occasional gems. It's not WAR AND PEACE, but it doesn't claim to be.

I like it.

Art De L Enluminure

Art De L EnluminureAnyone reading this already knows that Illuminated Manuscripts are a passion in our modern, mass-production age. So what's the excitement here? Anyone reading this will already know the Tres Riches Heures, the Book of Kells, the Grimani Breviary, and the dozen or so "heavy hitters" of the field. They will know the great collections: The BL, the BN, the PML, etc. Many reference books are old and have mediocre black and white pictures, and you pay a small fortune for color plates, and a large fortune for facsimiles. This series addresses all that. There are full color (and great quality) photos, terrific manuscripts that are often less well-known but no less grand. I own 3 illuminations by the Dunois Master, and wanted a holdable version of the miniatures in the Dunois Hours. For about 12 bucks I have it, full size + details in glowing colors. I saw the Graduel of St. Die and was enchanted by it. No facsimile available but a whole treatise here and pictures and descriptions. Yes there's the ubiquitous Tres Riches Heures and a few others, but when you start getting into specific examples of style, technique, history, and provenance, these volumes are superb. By the way, nothing wrong with the commentaries of Jonathan Alexander, Francois Avril, and the editorial staff. For enthusiasts, this is fantastic!

Roadrunner Motorcycle Touring & Travel

Roadrunner Motorcycle Touring & TravelItching to get on the road? Love the long haul? Longing for a road trip whilst snow sits? I've traveled vicariously through the winter months with this little gem ... inspired for the road as soon as it smells like Spring. An informative, accessible, and descent guide to the long ride.

The first thing you'll notice, is that this magazine is printed in high quality, glossy paper. Its certainly a fancy magazine.

If you enjoy reading ride reports, then this is the subscription you are looking for. Most articles can be a little skimpy though, but you still get a great taste of the ride. The photography is generally fantastic.

I have subscribed to this magazine from the very beginning, and to this day there is no other magazine that caters to motorcycle tourers. The mag features a nice mix of US tours and international tours, although 95% are US tours. They really don't discriminate against any make or model as all types of motorcycles can be seen inside, which is really my favorite part. I have multiple motorcycles, basically at least 1 from each category. Another reason why I love this magazine are the pull out tank bag maps. Although I'm not great with computers, their website lets me access all of my issues in digital formats, and I can download all of the maps and GPS files.

I have been a subscriber to this rag for over 3 years now and enjoyed it on and off and some of the articles are well written and others are like they were written by a 5th grader (actually a 3rd grader because i had better writing skills in 5th grade) and then the real reason why i am stopping my sub is because i am totally sick and tired of looking at the Publisher and her son in all of the pictures throughout the rag. Now, having said that....... I like people who love themselves........ but this has really, really, gotten bad, really, really, bad. Enough is enough...i do not care to be reminded every other page who the publisher and owner are. NOW I SUBSCRIBE TO OVERLAND JOURNAL............NOW THIS IS A RAG TO READ. I SPEND 15 MINUTES READING MY ISSUE OF ROADRUNNER AND I SPEND 15 HOURS READING MY ISSUE OF OVERLAND JOURNAL

Entertainment Weekly (1-year auto-renewal)

Entertainment WeeklyCan't beat the $10/year price...but buyer beware... at the end of the year they will automatically charge your credit card for their full subscription price $100+. Best to log on to your Entertainment Weekly account and cancel the auto-renew.

Entertainment Weekly (1 year)

Going into my 5th subscription year, I'm not an audiophile, not a TV junkie, not a movie nut, not a Hollywood sycophant AT ALL. But my wife and I read a lot. EW is always received enthusiastically every Friday.

It is some of the best quality writing to keep you amused and interested as well as in touch with the rest of the entertainment world. It's hip!....and that's from a 65-year-old-f**t. We get a heads-up on the best of the most recent fiction and non-fiction as well. We also get good film reviews and a comparison with critical opinions nation-wide. I subscribe to five quality magazines but always grab EW first. Enjoy.

Yes, it's true that some articles won't interest you. There's been a ton of writing on Twilight that I don't really care about, but a lot of people do! They can't please everyone 100% of the time. Now in exchange for my patience I will receive a ton of writing on Lost--whoohoo! It's a great magazine, fun and interesting and smart. Gives you info without trashy gossip. Keeps you informed about all the latest books, music, movies, DVDs, TV, etc. The perfect mix of good articles and photos. I got my first subscription years ago and can't imagine going without it. Great price on Amazon! I feel bad for the people that pay more without realizing.

If you already have an EW subscription and want to renew through Amazon follow these steps to link your current EW subscription to Amazon. Go to the Amazon Subscription Center and click on "Add Magazine". Fill in your account number from the address label on your magazine and the expiration date. Your info should appear. Then you can renew and Amazon will provide the publisher with your subscription account information so the new issues add on to your current remaining subscription rather than duplicate it.

I've had subscriptions multiple times. Each time has been enjoyable. This is quite simply the best AND cheapest entertainment magazine to subscribe to out there (especially considering there are a ton of ways to get free or reduced subscriptions out there). The reviews on occasion are off base but for the most part are pretty spot on. Snarky, self depreciating, sometimes overly self indulgent articles are the code of the day here. They will occasionally give to much love to some people, movies, items, books, music, and whatever else you can think of BUT the lame is outweighed by the not lame.

So long point short; IF you care about all things entertainment related in the usa and feel the need to get a magazine about it...this IS the best; the only cons i can think of are that every issue isn't always a winner and a lot of what they cover you can easily find free somewhere online...but than for most people a magazine is more convenient for picking up and reading than their computer :)

Dream Network Journal

Dream Network JournalDream Network has been my guiding dream star throughout my most productive dreaming years from the first issue onward. Editor, Roberta Ossana is one gutsy lady and a fine friend, undaunted in her passion to nurture a dream journal for the people ... what I call a Grassroots Dream Journal.

Roberta honors her own dreams to help keep DN moving in the direction of her true passion. She also honors the dreams of others, the outcome of which shines radiantly in every issue. It's not been a easy journey. Many an abyss jumped on faith; yet inspiration continues to flow around the rocky times.

Dream Network is reaping it's own rewards now, finally ready to be birthed to a much wider audience. Hurrah! Thank you, Roberta, it wouldn't have happened without you.

Noreen Wessling, 7 Arts Studio, Milford OH

When I was first introduced to Dream Network over 6 years ago, I was immediately impressed with its entire format. It exposed me to an impressive source of insightful articles, creative editorials, dream analysis, art and even dream poetry. It also provided me with a vast source of contacts and techniques used in dream therapy and evaluation.

Dream Network's new webpage is a wonderful aspect of art itself. Visually stunning and user friendly, Dream Network is a portal directing us to the mysterious contours within our dreamscape. Here, we can learn and explore the nature of the dreamer's symbolic world. Dream Network is an excellent site to learn and participate in. Incorporating some very useful links and where one can even submit their dreams to be read by a very large audience. Dream Network is the source to explore and analyze the power, magic and mystery within our dreams.

During a time when more and more people are paying attention to their dreams, this magazine comes as a welcomed delight because of it's complete dedication to the Dreamtime.

My first attraction to Dream Network Journal in the early 1990's was from Editor/Publisher Roberta Ossana's invitation that common people from all cultures could offer their dreaming experiences for publication in the journal. Dream Network also draws professional authors and artists who present dreaming materials from cultures around the world. Editor/Publisher Roberta Ossana is a deeply inspired and especially kind dedicated person. Peace is interwoven in all that she does. Such is the quality that she and her co-workers reflect in every issue of Dream Network, a journal that truly has something for everyone who values dreams.

You wouldn't throw $10.00 out of every $100.00 in the wastebasket. Don't waste the 10% or your thinking that takes place in your dream-mind.

DNJ has every level of contributor from the curious newbie to Ph.ds. Every level of dream experience personal, powerful, practical, spiritual is explored here.

Some right-brained people need a poetic, intuitive approach. Other left-brained people respond to logical, systematic analysis. Both are offered within the pages of DNJ. Not only will the reader find their natural, favored approaches, the reader will also be stretched by exposure to the opposite approach. I like them each, I'll take them both. Try it you'll like it.

Our State

Our StateWhile waiting in a waiting room go figure I happened to pick up a copy of Our State. This is the first time I was happy to be waiting. I was unfamiliar with this magazine, and found the articles and photos were excellently interesting. I scanned as many issues as I could in the time I had. I am a native and found much info I was totally unaware of. I would think it would be of equal, or greater interest to transplants as well.

Although I haven't recieved my first issue on this current subscription, I can say without a doubt that this is the best publication I subscribe to. It takes me to every corner of North Carolina where i can visit quaint little towns, large cities, "locals" that add that subtle flavor, and it carries my memories, no matter where i go.

Buy Our State Now

Being a native to North Carolina, I can say this magazine is very helpful when planning trips to visit places that sometimes, I didn't even know existed. The articles cover towns in great depth and point out places to stay, dine and browse. The pictures are absolutely beautiful. What a great magazine! IF you like to travel and want to find out of the way, tucked away little places with charm and interest, get this magazine!

Read Best Reviews of Our State Here

Consumer demand for the latest and the greatest, the best and the worst, the fastest and the slowest, has led the bulk of periodical publications down the line of "Best Restaurants!" and "Cheap Eats!" and "Ferrari takes on Porsche!" and "Best Colleges!" Few magazines are written for casual, deliberate reading anymore.

Here's an exception. Certainly the best regional culture periodical I've seen, Our State features history, literature, photography, food, architecture, travel, and education within the (huge!) boundaries of North Carolina. This is not a magazine to buy if you're looking to scan the photographs in 30 seconds and then throw the thing into the fire or the "stack." Articles herein feature the best writers from around the state, and cover subtle topics that will require contemplation and reflection.

Of course, we can't forget the lovely photography, as North Carolina presents the photographer with a treasure of natural and architectural subjects.

Minerva - International Review of Ancient Art and Archaelogy

Minerva - International Review of Ancient Art and ArchaelogyMinerva is one of my favorite mags. I studied archeology in graduate school and classical civ in undergrad and I find it a fun way to maintain a flavor of both. I'm also an artist and I've always been facinated by ancient art forms. Most of the items shown are museum quality artifacts, but I get great ideas for my own work from these issues. The articles tend to be obscure for casual readers, but I find them informative and interesting.

Do yourself a favor, and buy this magazine subscription directly from the Minerva magazine website. You will pay $50 versus the $71.71 on Amazon for 6 issues. Sorry, Amazon! Maybe you will lower your prices.

Buy Minerva - International Review of Ancient Art and Archaelogy Now

I am a sculptor, and this is my only magazine subscription. I stopped buying U.S. magazines because of the art speak, and the U.K magazines have now gone international. This is the only magazine which I have ever read religiously from cover to cover. I get to see things that get missed in art magazines, and the object's context is always considered. It is also mind broadening, as I see images that I would never see anywhere else. A major benefit of the magazine is the book reviews. I have bought several international books based on reviews in Minerva, and have never been disappointed. An associated resource is the catalogs from Royal Athena gallery in New York at $5 each, they are a steal.

On November 29, 2012, you sent me a ship-confirm order for Minerva magazine. Without the

slightest intent of sarcasm, I believe a sailing ship would be faster. WHERE IS IT?

I cannot understand for the life of me why anything should take 12-16 weeks to begin getting a subscription. I got this for my uncle who is a true history buff and it will take 3-4 months for him to get his 1st magazine. I tried to buy a copy of this at one of the book stores or stands to show him what he would be getting and could find it nowhere. I had to print the page from Amazon to get anything. This is a wonderful, high caliber magazine and it shouldn't take this long to get. Can't something be done about this?
