Get Lost Magazine

Get Lost MagazinePrimarily aimed at the younger (and poorer) travel bug sufferer this glossy Australian magazine is a pretty good read and in it's country of origin quite cheap.

The magazine covers travel spots around the world and is aimed very much at looking at travel to out of the way places and undiscovered gems and it probably doesn't matter where you are from given that the magazine tends not to focus overmuch on it's home turf. Most of the articles are just a few pages long and overall the format is pretty much par for the course for any travel mag around the planet.

One thing that would make it a tiny bit less useful for the international reader is that the adverts in the mag are going to be aimed at Australian readers and any dollar prices listed are generally for the same readership.

Overall a good magazine chock full of great travel ideas with which to destroy your bank balance.... I just put down my latest copy a moment ago!

Girlfriend - Australia

Girlfriend - AustraliaAustralian teen mags are some of the best light pieces of entertaining literature...they usually feature regular people and relatable stories and fun quizzes, etc....American teen mags seem to focus more on elite fashion that's fun to LOOK at, but hard to really connect with, where Girlfriend and Dolly (another Aus girls mag) are extremely down to earth. I love that they don't obsess on celeb gossip and such, but lean more towards fun articles about teens just starting to date and formals and having a blast at parties with friends and all. It's a cute magazine! That's one thing I miss heaps about living in Aus...the magazine selection! ha

Pottery Making Illustrated

Pottery Making IllustratedPottery Making Illustrated is a magazine with lots of practical advice for beginning and advanced potters. There is a wide range of subjects focused on topics that are useful. Other ceramics magazines seem to be about cutting edge sculpture, but what if you want to make bowls, plates, or cups?

Pottery Making Illustrated is the place to get that information. One issue I bought had three articles I have used many times and shared with friends.

Pottery Making has many good ideas and projects, especially for teachers of pottery and for children. The articles are clearly written and easy to understand. I enjoy reading it.

Buy Pottery Making Illustrated Now

I love this magazine. I've been getting it for about 5 years, and the years I've missed before that, I bought the back issues on ebay.

PMI has something for everyone, beginner or professional. It's not snooty and too artsy, they actually show you how to make stuff, it's not a photo album magazine for museum pieces! If you are a potter and need some fresh ideas this is a good place to look.

The articles vary from my scientific to fun stuff. There are also book reviews and advertising. For me this book replaces some books I might have bought on how to do stuff like make certain molds. I bought a book because of the reviews in here too. I bought a images on clay book. I can't imagine someone not getting any good info from PMI. I look forward to every one I get and read it from cover to cover.

I've always gotten my magazine on time, and never had any issues with customer service.

Vent: I don't understand why people leave one star for their problem waiting for the next issue to come out, and their subcription to start. These are 6 issues a year. If you order at the end of December and January already came out, I would imagine you'd have to wait until Feb or March to get your next issue. In a hurry? go to Borders

I like this magazine for its hands on article about making pottery and throwing and altering pottery

Purchased as a birthday gift for my sister, who is a fairly new potter, along with Clay Times. She loves them both, and says that each magazine has a very different perspective.

Bon Appetit (1-year auto-renewal)

Bon AppetitI tend to agree with other commenters that the magazine has gone downhill. I am almost at the end of my 2nd renewal, and will not be renewing again. Since Adam Rapaport took over, I quickly noticed a de-emphasis on food preparation and food discussion, and more travel and lifestyle stuff and advertisements for pricey things (and more irrelevant ads, like jewelry and cars, rather than those food and travel related ads that were there before). They seem to only be interested in catering (ha, puns) to the wealthier tier of their subscribers, while alienating aspiring cooks. There seem to be more write-ups about trendy new eateries than actual recipies in every issue since Mr. Rapaport took over. There used to be some very interesting pieces of travel writing that included recipes at the end, and I really enjoyed both the quality of the articles, and the opportunity to make and taste what was mentioned. The new articles have unappealing recipes (at least for me), in that they either seem like they were slapped in there as an afterthought, or require expensive or hard to get ingredients (I know this was true of the recipes before, but it has also increased.)

I only came to this magazine after Barbara Fairchild, so I can't speak to what it was like before her but, after her it has gotten, well, bad. And I want to love it, the photography is delicious, but did we really need Gwenyth Paltrow on the cover if we are not being instructed on how to cook her? And there wasn't anything in the thanksgiving issue I wanted to try outhow is that even possible? Don't waste your money on this, unless you have bucketloads of it and want something other than copies of Boring Rich People Money Digest to adorn your teak cofee table. I mean don't even get this for your maid.

The website, fortunately, still has an archive of recipes, you know, to COOK, which is what I assume most people subscribing to this kind of publication want to do.

Bon Appetit won't replace Gourmet in anyone's life, but it does have interesting articles about places and restaurants. Total issues are devoted to themes, such as London or Mexico and those are interesting. My favorite feature is always the recipes from restaurants requested from readers. I have learned some very good recipes this way! As for the recipes themselves, they are written in a straightforward manner. The directions are written in plain English without complications. The pictures and drawings enhance the instructions. All that said, this is not a magazine for someone looking for complicated recipes. But, if you want a magazine that is pleasant to flip through and read, this is for you.

I decided to renew my subscription for Bon Appetit via Amazon because it was cheaper than a regular renewal. I was concerned that the subscription would be entered as a renewal because it doesn't ask for an account number for your subscription. You have to enter the name and address exactly like the magazine mailing label you've been receiving. I checked on it 2 weeks later and the renewal had gone through. Very easy to do and it worked well.

Great recipes, easy to follow directions, albeit some times the ingredients are not available but substitutes are almost always suggested and that makes it easier to do.

Just Crossstitch

Just CrossstitchThis magazine is stuck in the 1980's the style of most of the projects looks like stuff my grandmother would like (pictures of fruit and flowers). They rarely (although it DOES happen occasionaly ie: Blackbird Designs was in there last year, with a great project) include the newer artists or styles. The exception is the yearly JCS Ornaments special edition that is a must have, but I don't know if it is part of the yearly subscription. Most of the projects are still on aida, and most of them, again, are very outdated in style. I'd like to see more historical projects, more samplers, and more updated projects on linen before I will buy this magazine again.

I subscribe to almost every cross stitch mag available this one is one of the better ones, It has a variety of subject matter and black and white charts. Also has some nice comments. However, there is no what people have stitched section (Like the UK mags have) and very few articles for actual reading

This is the only magazine, I keep in my collection. I have used several charts to make gifts. I also trade some of my patterns with Cross-Stitchers all over the world. This is one I will renew for years to come.

My magazine arrived much quicker than expected (still waiting on another one that I ordered the same day) The projects are beautiful!! The cover of a bird and flowers is great, but inside is a pillow with daffodils on blue aida and it is stunning!! i have the DMC floss ready and I am waiting on 1-2-3 stitch ( a fantastic company!) to mail me my aida! The magazine has a variety of stylesso I am not sure what the other reviewer is looking atbut i really enjoyed my first issue and can't wait for the next!! I will be re-subscribing for sure!!

Want Just Crossstitch Discount?

I had not picked up this magazine in several years, and am so pleased with the current issue that I will be subscribing to it again. The magazine is targeted to moderately experienced stitchers, and uses a variety of stitches, threads, fabrics and techniques to bring life to what can be a bit of a rigidly obsessional hobby. They do not specialize in easy country patterns as seems to be popular in many of the other magazines, and rather than focus on a trendy new thread, they bring creativity and life to the threads you probably already have. I will be using pieces of one of their samplers to decorate altar linens. I wish their charts were in more than one color and wish it were available for the Kindle, but wouldn't change anything otherwise.

Harp Column

Harp ColumnFirst of all, this is a magazine for harpists. It is a niche magazine for those interested in harp news, competitions, upcoming workshops, etc. That said, this is an excellant magazine. Good historical articles, interviews and a "classifieds" section for those who want to purchase or sell a harp. Even a small harp is a big investment (most run several thousand dollars), and the harpist owes it to him/herself to learn as much about this instrument, those who have mastered it, and the hisory.

Chicago

ChicagoI ordered it because they sent me a subscription card for $12...luckily that is all I paid. You might appreciate this magazine if you are in your forties, have 5 children, are a doctor or lawyer, and thrive on statistics. Every issue focuses on comparing us to other cities, primarily New York, and is a general bore. There is nothing one could actually utilize, or would want to, in the entertainment/restaurant section. I've never been so eager for a subscription to end. I can't believe Amazon suggests buying this along with Time Out Chicago, who I've turned to for real information, colorful interviews, and articles that honestly do feel like Chicago does. Yuck...all the focus on rich people makes me want to puke. Why don't they count up some statistics on how many Chicagoans actually fit your sickeningly rich profile? 5 percent? Their March issue explaining that a D-I-N-K couple making a combined $120,000 a year struggles just as much as a single mother making $15,000 based on their choices really tops it off: this magazine is out of touch.

I do live in Chicago, so my viewpoint may be different than that of someone who doesn't live here and probably only comes here once a month.

I subscribed to this magazine 2 years ago, before the Tribune Co. bought it. It had several great articles each month and was really relevant not only to people living in Chicago, but to those who had just moved here. I still have several of those because they were so good to have.

Some of my favorite, and headlining, articles include: Chicago's Best New Restaurants (May 2001), Chicago's Guide to Summer (May 2001), 25 Weekend Getaways (June 2001), Guide to Surviving O'Hare (Feb. 2001)

When I resubscribed 6 months ago (post Tribune buy out) I started to notice it was catering to a different set of people. It now at least seems to have a lot less articles and they are a lot more relevant to people who live in the suburbs, or are Chicago old-money. Definitely catering to the 50+ crowd now.

From the Jan. 2003 edition: Chicago's top doctors, From the Dec. 2002 edition: The Most expensive things in town, and Look at this month's highlight 'Chicago's Richest people'.. Why do I care? I don't!!

I will NOT be renewing my subscription to this formerly good magazine.

Useful for specific purposes: Restaurant ratings and reviews, "Top XX whatevers" etc. Just don't pay more than $12 a year, the "rack rate" the publisher offers.

This Chicago magazine subscription was a christmas present. The magazine is o.k., but usually ends up in the garbage. There are too many ads and not enough information on the "real" chicago. I do like some of their articles, but again, usually, it ends up in the garbage.

Want Chicago Discount?

Like so many magazines that have decided to pursue the relatively affluent core of their subscription, Chicago magazine is great if you want to read a magazine to figure out what to buy. It's got lots of articles that are relevant to you if you're upwardly mobile, either live in the suburbs or have a car to get there, and are interested in the latest trends in entertainment and shopping.

That said, it's just not what I look for in a magazine. I've read many issues and while the writing is pretty good, I've never found an article that I thought was worth saving, or even much that told me something I didn't know about Chicago, and I've only lived here a few years. Don't be fooled by the title -this magazine is fine for what it is, but it doesn't even come close to covering Chicago.

Entertainment Weekly (1-year auto-renewal)

Entertainment WeeklyCan't beat the $10/year price...but buyer beware... at the end of the year they will automatically charge your credit card for their full subscription price $100+. Best to log on to your Entertainment Weekly account and cancel the auto-renew.

Entertainment Weekly (1 year)

Going into my 5th subscription year, I'm not an audiophile, not a TV junkie, not a movie nut, not a Hollywood sycophant AT ALL. But my wife and I read a lot. EW is always received enthusiastically every Friday.

It is some of the best quality writing to keep you amused and interested as well as in touch with the rest of the entertainment world. It's hip!....and that's from a 65-year-old-f**t. We get a heads-up on the best of the most recent fiction and non-fiction as well. We also get good film reviews and a comparison with critical opinions nation-wide. I subscribe to five quality magazines but always grab EW first. Enjoy.

Yes, it's true that some articles won't interest you. There's been a ton of writing on Twilight that I don't really care about, but a lot of people do! They can't please everyone 100% of the time. Now in exchange for my patience I will receive a ton of writing on Lost--whoohoo! It's a great magazine, fun and interesting and smart. Gives you info without trashy gossip. Keeps you informed about all the latest books, music, movies, DVDs, TV, etc. The perfect mix of good articles and photos. I got my first subscription years ago and can't imagine going without it. Great price on Amazon! I feel bad for the people that pay more without realizing.

If you already have an EW subscription and want to renew through Amazon follow these steps to link your current EW subscription to Amazon. Go to the Amazon Subscription Center and click on "Add Magazine". Fill in your account number from the address label on your magazine and the expiration date. Your info should appear. Then you can renew and Amazon will provide the publisher with your subscription account information so the new issues add on to your current remaining subscription rather than duplicate it.

I've had subscriptions multiple times. Each time has been enjoyable. This is quite simply the best AND cheapest entertainment magazine to subscribe to out there (especially considering there are a ton of ways to get free or reduced subscriptions out there). The reviews on occasion are off base but for the most part are pretty spot on. Snarky, self depreciating, sometimes overly self indulgent articles are the code of the day here. They will occasionally give to much love to some people, movies, items, books, music, and whatever else you can think of BUT the lame is outweighed by the not lame.

So long point short; IF you care about all things entertainment related in the usa and feel the need to get a magazine about it...this IS the best; the only cons i can think of are that every issue isn't always a winner and a lot of what they cover you can easily find free somewhere online...but than for most people a magazine is more convenient for picking up and reading than their computer :)

Airport WorldThis is one of the best magazines that I have read which feature airports. This magazine of the Airports Council International features well written articles on various topical subjects such as airport security, regulations, cooperation, handling airlines, health issues, latest technology developments, airport management and market development issues, among others.

The reader gets the latest news of interest at different airports of the world from an authoritative source as well as news of important forthcoming events and conferences. Stakeholders of airports will find the magazine very informative and interesting to read.
