I bought this as a gift and was not aware of the auto renewal. I found out when i was asked to review the product. I'm sure the mag is great but I didn't want to make a lifetime gift. This feature should be better stated.

Sculpture Review

Sculpture ReviewThis is an often beautiful and even more often useful magazine published by and for sculptors and people who love sculpture. It's not about the art world or the mainstream art market, but rather about sculptural issues: form, content, technique and history. It's international, diverse and surprising.

Years ago, I subscribed to Sculpture Review when it was a magazine printed entirely in B/W, and focused on a narrow vision of figurative sculpture. About a year ago, I picked it up again on the newstand and was surprised to see color plates, and informative articles covering a broad range of work, profiling historical and contemporary sculpture.

A test for me with a publication is if the articles are informative and "readable," and if I'm introduced to good work that inspires. I find the new format of Sculpture Review fulfills both these requirements.

I commend Sculpture Review for the way it connects present day sculptors with past creators of the world's legacy of figurative sculpture. Each issue illustrates a theme seen from many angles. Living in Santa Fe, living in art, I enjoy the whole gamut of art magazines. The edgy, extreme, installations and multi-media-events world gets great coverage elsewhere. Sculpture Review stands out as highly informative about past and present-day sculptors who haven't abandoned the notion of beauty with meaning. SR looks at figurative sculpture in all eras and cultures. It covers enduring pinnacles of the past, their appreciation and preservation; and also looks at the many ways today's representational and figurative sculptors build and innovate on those estimable foundations. SR is the go-to magazine for us.

Congratulations to the editing staff of Sculpture Review for all these new exciting articles, and for covering now a wide range in sculpture, from Antiquity to Contemporary.

You are a great source of information for the art student, the artist, the scholar and the collector.

Unlike stuffy art magazines intended for rarefied audiences, Sculpture Review is a real gem that speaks directly to a wider public of artists, collectors, and those interested in the role of art--specifically sculpture--in our culture and our lives. This magazine goes on the assumption that sculpture is as much a part of daily life as food and water and is something we can all discuss. Its quarterly, themed issues bring the work of developing artists, practicing professionals, and an occasional old master to readers' attention with engaging articles in a highly readable, lavishly illustrated format suitable for living room, library, and studio.

Soundings - Real Boats Real Boaters

Soundings - Real Boats Real BoatersI used to read and was a regular subscriber to the now defunct Lattitudes and Attitudes magazine. When the owners of L&A made a bad business decision that caused them the loss of L&A, I had to find another boating magazine. This is an outstanding replacement for L&A. In fact, this is a much better magazine than L&A. I wish I had found this one sooner. I would never have subscribed to L&A and lose my money with them done to their stupid way of doing, or should I say not doing business. This is another professionally put together magazine. If you enjoy boating or dreaming of boating, this is a great magazine to have. In fact, I subscribed to both Soundings and Cruising World after reading a couple of issues. Cruising World is another great boating magazine, even better than Soundings, at least that is my opinion. I highly recommend either or both without hesitation

Answers

AnswersAre you looking for a high-quality magazine with spectacular photographs? Answers Magazine provides insightful articles combined with professional photos and a section for kids. This is not your usual "thin" magazine. It is chock full of photos, posters, and articles and is well worth the price. An added bonus? Explore the world God created in a way no other periodical offers.

I am glad that we subscribe to this magazine. Our entire family enjoys it and learns from it. It is great to get a different perspective than the one forced upon public school children. As the magazine points out, evolutionists and creationists both use the same scientific facts. The difference is in how they interpret those facts. Evolutionists interpret the facts to reach a conclusion excluding the possibility of a Creator. Creationists look at the same facts and realize that there are other credible scientific possibilities other than evolution--and it is not difficult to look at the scientific facts and see how much they line up with the Bible. It is too bad that most of our children never learn that there are other scientific explanations for the fossils, Grand Canyon, dinosaurs, etc. It is amazing to see the pictures of Mt. St. Helens compared to the Grand Canyon, for example, seeing how similar they are. It is not a stretch at all to realize that the Grand Canyon along with its rock layers, fossils, etc., may easily have been formed by a sudden catastrophic flood. ANSWERS Magazine provides articles written by scientists about science. It also has a kids section. There are articles for those in all levels of science, from basic to advanced. I wish all would read this magazine and learn about our Creator.

Unfortunately, a lot of times, Christian magazines or media publications can't compete excellence-wise with similar items being put out in the mainstream, secular market. Answers magazine, however, is an exception to that rule. I hardly ever read our mail or the other magazines sent to our home, but every time we get our Answers magazine, it captures my attention and leaves me feeling inspired and like I didn't waste my time for sitting down to read through it. This is a very, very good product with very, very good information, which supports a thoroughly Biblical Worldview. If it isn't already being sent to your home, take out a subscription today!

Wow, I was just reading my first issue thinking how much information was packed into one issue. 14 main articles! And finally, a magazine that I can use as a great supplement for some of my children's school projects. It's not aimed at children (except the small children's section in the middle), but older elementary (and up) can certainly "get" some of these topics. It's nice knowing I can trust them not to have evolution lies in them! Thanks AiG!

Answers Magazine does a great job of presenting new scientific research as well as mainstream scientific theory and examining it for the facts instead of just pushing an agenda. While there are many articles challenging the presuppositions of those opposed to the Magazine's belief system, the editors also seem to be very careful not to twist science just to fit their school of thought. Beyond science, the Magazine examines biblical accuracy and offers logical explanations on how many historical events "could have happened" while still accepting that there are also many supernatural events which cannot be explained through science alone. Excellent work in each magazine. Readers will be challenged and encouraged. Oh, and the pictures are always great, too!

Golf Magazine (1-year auto-renewal)

Golf MagazineI read both Golf & Golf Digest for years [I should practice & play more and read less about golf...] :-) But, in recent years, Golf Digest has strayed far from what I want in a golf magazine three examples: GD put in a fashion column [nobody I golf with has ever discussed golf clothing or styles!]; GD added a smarmy gossip column [trying to compete with the tabloids?]; GD no longer objectively reviews golf equipment [they now offer a "hot list" which amazingly enough coincides with their big advertisers]. Golf magazine has avoided these stupidities PLUS it has the spice of David Feherty's column despite the fact that it was cut in half a couple years back. Golf is now clearly superior to Golf Digest.

This magazine has good articles about golf and on golf instruction. The pictures on golf instruction are always very clear and not hard to follow. I think there are too many ads at times which I sometimes get tired of reading...

I recommend the following books on golf instruction that I found to be highly beneficial.

The first one is "Zen Golf", which shows the mental side of the game and makes playing golf easier in this aspect.

The second book I recommend on the physical aspect of golf is "The Ultimate Golf Instruction Guide: Key Techniques for Becoming a Zero Handicap Golfer or Better." This book really has some amazing and unique stuff about the golf swing. I finally scored below 80 because of this book.

Golf Magazine is definitely my favorite magazine on golf. I also love their issue every year on new golf equipment. This issue I find the best. It shows you how golfers with different handicaps perform with different clubs. It even shows clubhead speeds and measured driving distance of each person who is testing the clubs. I find this very interesting.

I've found GOLF magazine to be the best of the golf magazines available. The reasons I particularly like it are its very useful and well diagrammed golf tips, some of which have improved my play quite a bit in the last couple of years. I also like their feature articles which highlight a particular pro and analyze their swings and then illustrate how you can apply them to your game. Generally a magazine less interested in selling you new clubs than in teaching you how to play golf, GOLF is a solid read. They do at times stray into "my how awesome all these new clubs, balls, gloves, etc. are" (honestly when was the last time you saw a NEGATIVE review in any trade magazine???), but their recommendations based on your style of game are useful. Overall it is an excellent publication for any golfer from casual to obsessed.

For a golfer, no matter whether good or bad, Golf magazine is definitely a must. Golf magazine is literally packed full of tips and tricks that will help with their golf game, whether the trouble is their putting, sand shots, chipping,, driving, putting, or even just your stance or swing. By reading golf magazine, a golfer could easily shave strokes off of his or her game.

So what about non-golfers? Not a problem. Golf magazine is also full of very interesting articles and profiles about active golfers, celebrities who golf. Golf magazine is also full of very interesting facts, rules and statistics, that are also interesting to people who may not be involved in the game of golf. Golf magazine is also not for people of any specific age. I would definitely say Golf magazine is a good read for anyone from middle school, all the way to the elderly.

Golf magazine is a great subscription to have for one who is thinking about or trying to pick up the game as well. It is full of tips for beginners, and great product reviews. By picking up a Golf magazine, someone could find out what clubs and balls would be right for them to make an investment in. By reading one simple issue, one might find out not only what equipment would be best for them to use, but also how to properly hold the clubs, tee the balls, swing correctly, and so on. This is very convenient, because they would not just go start playing incorrectly, and they wouldn't have to pay thousands of dollars for expansive lessons by a course professional.

Elle (1-year auto-renewal)

ElleI happen to really enjoy Elle, I believe that they have an even balance between fashion trends, accessories, shoes, articles and interviews. I do wish they would place less celebrities on magazine covers and more models again, but it is nice to see your favorite singer or actress on a magazine, esp Gwen Stefani who is always gorgeous. The magazine does tend to lean more towards the left in terms of politics but thats fine with me, if that isn't your preference maybe another magazine would be better suited for you. That aside, I'd say that out of all the high fashion magazines Elle would rank right next to Harper's Bazaar but behind Vogue.

OK we KNOW that you have all the "fashion" magazines already or you wouldn't be checking out this review. You might even be thinking to yourself-how can I possibly justify spending any more of my hard-earned cash looking at pictures of clothes/shoes/bags I will never in a million years be able to buy? The justification comes from something called a "point of view" which this mag has in spades compared to some of the others. They post great suggestions on undiscovered quality literary finds, recognize the difference between looking at a design for it's artistic merits and actually trying to walk in 5 1/2" platforms, wonderful columnists like E.Jean give good advice--basically we are talking about a cross between New Republic/Time/Vogue--with that combo the price makes this mag a great buy!

Buy Elle (1-year auto-renewal) Now

I have subscribed to Elle for nearly 20 years and I have seen it change in recent years into more of a In Style type mag. There is increasing focus on celebrities, with one on every cover. I find this annoying--if I wanted to see Britney Spears or Posh Spice I would buy the Enquirer or People. I wish Elle would go back to featuring relatively unknown models instead of actresses. I think the recent change in leadership is causing the magazine to have an identity crisis. They can't really compete with Vogue but they're not sure who they should be...InStyle? People? Glamour?

Despite the recent turmoil however, it's still a good magazine. I love the book recommendations, in-depth articles, and of course E.Jean.

This magazine is nothing more than a bunch of ads. There are very few stories put at the end of the magazine and the articles don't match the headlines on the front of the magazine. I only paid $5.00 for the entire year but I won't be renewing or recommending anyone else to purchase this product either. Don't waste any more trees to print this crap.

If you are an Elle Fan than of course this is probably a good deal. I subscribed for a year, but didn't get much out of it. I prefer Instyle more. The articles didn't interest me. I gave it three stars because Amazon did it's job, but Elle is not as impressive.
