Country Gardens (2-year)

Country GardensThis magazine is a must if you like your gardens informal but beautiful. This magazine is almost devoid of ads and much of the editorial content is very informative for both the novice and advanced gardener. The photography is excellent. I've been a subscriber for years and it's my favorite gardening magazine.

Really nice magazine with a different flavor to it. All about cute gardens. Hope the publication continues to prosper.

There is some nice articles and lovely photos in this magazine. Like many these days, this magazine has a glut of ads.

Apparently desperate times call for questionable ethics. I received my paper "Invoice" for Country Garden magazine as subscribed. Soon after received a similar bill "You Pay Only" for Midwest Living, not subscribed. Moreover, a "Statement" to pay for Better Homes and Gardens, not subscribed. No surprise as all three were requesting payment to same outfit in Des Moines, IA. Neither had I authorized my information be shared with any associated groups; nor, was it a coincidence, as one being on no-solicitation lists, I get NO junk mail or calls. I will NOT be subscribing to any magazines through that publishing group ever again.

Pianist - Canada

Pianist - CanadaI have been a subscriber since Volume 1. It is one of the best magazines for the serious pianist or the beginer. Good articles that are relevant, excellent choise of pieces to perform, and the CD is a great help especially with the music minus one. If you want to improve your scope of music and add additional perfomance peices this magazine is a must.

I really enjoy this magazine. I didn't have any of the service problems that the previous reviewed had. I ordered mine through Amazon and I get the free CD with every copy.

Buy Pianist - Canada Now

I ordered this magazine from Amazon back in February 2006. The first issue finally arrived a over 3 months later. (You probably don't want to buy this subscription as a gift unless you don't mind if your friend thinks you forgot to get them anything!) When the magazine eventually arrived there was a problem with my copy so I called the Pianist magazine customer service department. After about 10 minutes of annoying muzac I spoke to a representative. They said they could not answer my question and promised to call back in 30 minutes. That was 4 weeks ago and they still have not bothered to call back.

As for the magazine content it's quite interesting but mainly if you like concert reviews, info on piano competitions and CD reviews. There's not very much about to play piano yourself.

Finally, if you do decide to buy this magazine get it direct from the publisher. They give you a free CD of piano music that you don't get if you order your subscription from Amazon eventhough it costs the same price.

Good luck if you choose this magazine. I hope your experience is better than mine.

The first issue arrived after a three month wait. The magazine has great content and good sheet music, but no attached CD diminishes the value.

This magazine comes with a CD and printed music that goes from beginning Bach to Lizst. The articles have great depth, and there's a Q&A page with very specific suggestions. Although it's coming from Canada, I have not noticed much of a wait for each issue. I recommend it to classical players from (not quite) beginner to advanced. (They also occasionally have a contemporary piece, but I don't love those.)

Vanity Fair July 2007 Africa Issue, Brad Pitt / Desmond Tutu Cover

Vanity Fair July 2007 Africa Issue, Brad Pitt / Desmond Tutu CoverI have spent years of my life reading and watching news about Africa, and it never matched what I experienced being on site. This issue of Vanity Fair portrays it ALL: the Good, the Bad, The Ugly, the Amazing and the Truth. For a fashion addict that I am, I never bought an issue of Vanity Fair and that day in the Hudson News store, the "Africa" logo caught my attention. When I opened the magazine, this is what got me to buy it, I read the following lines: "The media often treat Africa's 53 countries as a vast hopeless mass. `That hurts' writes one of Kenya literary stars who has a deeply individual tale of his country stunning political change and the emergence of the "Equity Generation"".

A fundamental statement is made in that sentence: it's not Africa, it's about 53 Africans countries, with different cultures, different stories, different lives, different histories...

This issue depicts Africa in its True Light and opens doors to:

the world to appreciate, to explore, to connect, to respect, to help Africa

Africans to embrace their homeland and fight for it

Every article is worth reading and gives hope to true journalism. I will buy more of this issue I started to do, to offer to my loves ones. I should thank Vanity Fair, the editor and guest editor.

I got sent an issue with the wrong cover Pitt is on it, Tutu not. Other than that the magazine is very interesting and has a lot of informing articles on Africa in it.

Humpty Dumpty Magazine

Humpty Dumpty MagazineMy little granddaughter adores Humpty Dumpty--and its sister magazine, Turtle, too. Whenever her new issues arrive, she ends up carrying them around with her for days. The bright, colorful artwork draws her in and the fun stories and games keep her entertained. I definitely recommend this magazine.

I bought a subscription for my niece's 5th birthday. She's very creative and enjoys sending in art for the magazine's art contest. When I babysit, we always do a craft or recipe from the magazine, she loves it!

I purchased this magazine for my nephew who is 7 and he loves it! On my last visit we sat down together and went through the magazine together we were looking for something to do that afternoon and HE suggested we try to make the pinwheels from Humpty Dumpty for lunch! While going through the magazine I noticed quite a few of the stories had a "lesson" like not to interrupt people or to take turns but it was woven into the story so it didn't come off as preachy. Nicely done!

It's such a nice change to see his cute little face buried in the magazine instead of a video game!

Humpty Dumpty is a great first magazine for children. I always loved receiving mail when I was a child (heck, I still do!) and magazines are so exciting! I enjoy exploring them with my daughter. We love to try the kid-friendly recipes from each issue and this makes for some great Mommy-Daughter time that I greatly cherish. The short stories are wonderful for beginning readers. We always have Humpty Dumpty beside the bed and in the car. Great fun! Definitely recommend!

I got this for my grandson, who at the time was 4. He is now 7 and still enjoys it, but my granddaughter, now 4, enjoys it more. Good projects and learning exercises for this age group, although my grandson should graduate to the next higher age group of magazines. Glad I got it for them,.

Cucina Italiana - Italian Edition

Cucina Italiana - Italian EditionI discovered this magazine several years after leaving Italy and have purchased and saved each issues since July 1995. The Italian version (there is also an English language one) is full of classic and original recipes that show the evolution of Italian cuisine and the possible introduction of spices and flavors that are more international. You will not find spaghetti with meatballs here, but innovative dishes and regional flavors. I especially like the cooking school section which each month illustrates and details the basic techniques needed in the kitchen. Over the years I have looked at other magazines but none has come even close to this.

People StyleWatch (1-year auto-renewal)

People StyleWatchI'm a big fashion magazine fan having subscribed to magazines like InStyle, Lucky, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Elle in the past several years.

People Stylewatch in addition to Instyle is one of my favorites. It's a rather thin magazine, but what you get is lots of good, useful content that is similar to InStyle (minus the gobs of advertisements). Stylewatch appeals to the readers of People magazine (which, I admit, I do not read) and fashionistas who enjoy reading up on fashion, trends and celebrities. What I like about Stylewatch is that it doesn't waste your time with pages of ads, editorials or articles. It gives you pictures, pictures, and more pictures as well as a good look at current and upcoming trends and some great comparison shopping/tips for budget-minded fashionistas. Instead of showing you gorgeous pictures of paper-thin models wearing outfits you couldn't afford, it shows you what celebrities are wearing and how you could wear a similar outfit for much less. It also gives you current trends and outfits in various price ranges, which makes it a magazine that proves that you don't have to make a million bucks to LOOK like a million bucks.

I usually satisfy my thirst for fashion articles by reading Harper's Bazaar or Vogue, but for my quick-fix up-to-the-moment what-are-the-celebrities-wearing-these-days look at the trends, as well as my source for great fashion ideas and tips, I go to People Stylewatch and it never disappoints.

Though creative, I lack natural ability and patience to painlessly put together my outfits. Therefore, I rely on three magazines to keep "frumpy" at arm's length: People Style Watch, Lucky, and InStyle. What these three magazines have in common is their visual approach to fashion: you will not find there silly articles on global affairs written by teenage interns. Instead, you will be treated to lots of pictures of fashionable style setters not only on the red carpet, but, MOST IMPORTANTLY, in street clothing. I believe these to be much more meaningful to an average Earthling such as myself then the overstilized artsy fashion photos one finds in the likes of VOGUE...

I also like the fact that the magazine identifies the brands. I may not be able to afford everything, but on many occasions I have been able to make prudent additions to my wardrobe based on the editors' recommendations, and/or acquire more affordable article based on the "original".

Fours stars only, as I would like to see more fashions specifically for the 30's/40's set.

Like the 30 other reviewers who have rated these jerks one star, I also took advantage of their Black Friday subscription and I'm still empty handed nearly 3 months later. I don't want to deter anyone from taking advantage of great magazine deals through Amazon--I was very pleased with my subscriptions to Marie Claire, Glamour, Oprah, and Entertainment Weekly. They were all delivered promptly. I work at a retailer that sells magazines and there have been two People StyleWatches issued since Black Friday. And still.... nothing. At this point, assuming I ever get my subscription, it wouldn't even be a year. All I know is that not only is People dropping the ball, but so is Amazon. They obviously have a lot of unhappy customers on their hands. I was pleased with my other subscriptions, but I will no longer go through Amazon for this stuff because of their inability to handle poor customer service from their vendors.

Say what you will about InStyle (which I subscribe to as well), I consider People stylewatch a better alternative if you are trying to choose between the two and don't happen to have a six-figure income. People style watch tries to keep it within my means. They don't just highlight designer brands of clothes, shoes and handbags but also review beauty, hair and fashion products that you can buy at drugstores or target. They have a section on cheap chic where they copy a designer look on a budget which I enjoy. So for frugal fashionistas, this is a great companion. I wait for mine to arrive every month and am always delighted to find it in the mailbox. Makes my day.

Want People StyleWatch (1-year auto-renewal) Discount?

What I really like about People Style Watch is that it's laid out in an easy-to-read, at-a-glance manner. I subscribe to a lot of magazines for various reasons and often don't have time to look at them all cover-to-cover in one sitting each month. Though I usually have good intentions of finishing them later, more often than not, they get tossed in cleaning sprees before I accomplished that task. But with Style Watch, you can get a lot of info covered in a short amount of time and learn a lot; yet, if you don't get all the way through it before it's discarded, you still got your money's worth. In a nutshell, it's a thin magazine packed full of useful, interesting fashion tips, trends, new products, education, and pictures -all without bombardment of ads or filler like in most other fashion publications. Just like it's parent magazine, People, the pages flow seamlessly. Perhaps Style Watch's greatest asset of all, in my opinion, is its appeal to women of most any generation: not an easy task to accomplish. Personally, I am the youngest of baby-boomers, but I enjoy the magazine as much as the twenty-something women I work with. In fact, for me, the only negative comment I could construe is that there's almost too much detail to absorb every month!

But that's a criticism I can live with:)

Dune Buggies and Hot Vws

Dune Buggies and Hot VwsThis is a fantastic aircooled magazine. It consists of great pictures, event coverage, and helpful tech articles. Sure, that is standard for many magazines but the presentation is what makes it stand out. Hot VWs manages to draw their readers in and make them feel like they are part of the VW community. Something I don't feel other VW mags do well. They cover more customized VWs but will present stockers as well. This magazines also has great information if you are interested in high performance engines and are into the racing scene. Finally, they have several recurring themes each year, such as the February California Look issue (my favorite) or the Baja issue, etc. I have been a buyer/subscriber for the last 10 years and I plan on continuing as long as they are in print. Highly recommended!

A must-have subscription for VW gear heads! Constantly new information in every issue. If you are into older VWs, this is the publication for you!

Green Lantern

Green LanternThis past decade has been a good one for Green Lantern, thanks in no small part to the stellar writing of Geoff Johns and his excellent art teams. The return of Hal Jordan and the Corps, the rise of the New Guardians and the menace of the Blackest Night, and now the wrath of the First Lantern. This run has made GL one of DC's most popular characters of the decade, enough so to inspire a motion picture [sorry, America] and an excellent animated series.

First of all I dont know how long that other writer has been reading Comics but I've been a fan going on 40 yrs. This edition of the Green Lantern(and I've seen them all) is a thrilling masterpiece filled with terrific artwork&coloring capped off with a great storyline. As far as that other writers comments on Superman..Always Remember..He(Superman) was the first..and he'll always be the King dude!,any TRUE Comicon ( a personally penned term for a true "Connoisseur" of comics not simply a "Johnny come lately") would know this fact! As a collector of Comics for decades(and like fine wine I'm getting tastier&better as time strolls on..ironic,same as my comic collection.) I can highly reccommend this edition.

Buy Green Lantern Now

First, GL was chosen to be Earth's savior rather than have this role forced on him by his parents. He earned it, and, therefore, deserves to win. Second, GL has no super-powers of his own but must rely on his imagination and creativity to "will" solutions to the challenges he faces. How much imagination does it take to stop a bullet by standing in front of it? I'll tell you how much. It's a lot less than it takes to "will" a giant green flyswatter and command it to smack the bullet to the ground. So GL is clearly smarter than Superman, and would win. Third, GL is associated with the color green, but Superman with the color red, for example, his cape. Green means go. Red means stop. Green is clearly superior to red. For instance, blood is red. But when it stops the result is death. Obviously, not a good thing. Finally, Superman has a great many powers, but what good are they? GL can create a giant green vacuum cleaner floating over New York City that will suck up and away all the tenured school teachers who can't even spell potatoe. It would take years for Superman to set them on fire one at a time with his heat vision, and then I'm sure the AFT would file a grievance against Superman and make him stop before he finished. I know, I've tried. Now, you be the judge. Who would you rather have protecting your planet? And be honest. This is life or death.
