Model Airplane News (1-year auto-renewal)

I took this magazine for a year and found it rather disappointing, there was little real content. I was starting to thing that all the magazines had become just ad space for retailers until I picked up Fly RC, I find that it has much more actual content.

There's no meat in this mag! Did I buy a catalog? There are better, more informative magazines in this hobby. It's not a bad rag, just not a good one. It does have alot of color photo's and decent reviews. They're not about things that interest me, though. If you like nothing but ARF's and are not interested in any other aspect of the hobby like building and designing then this magazine is for you.

Well, infrequently they have plans and other stuff. Mostly electric though. I'm a diehard "slimer" of the 1/2A variety.

If you are a avid R/C airplane person, this is the magazine to get. It is better than Model Aviation that comes with your AMA membership because it has articles and reviews of the latest products available -Not just sections relating to AMA events/areas of interest. I always like to know about the latest gadgets available and how they relate to existing technology.

However, take all reviews with the understanding that they will never have a negative review (fearful of killing an up and coming manufacturer with a bad review). You have to read between the lines. But, after reading a few reviews you will understand what I mean.

It's a good magazine the first 2 or 3 times it is read, after that it's totally repetitious. Same advertising, same coverage of events (the only thing that changes is the location of events)but try it anyway, You might like It..

( Unique Features )He whines about having to gluing in a few hinges and how he is an ARF'ER and not a builder. If gluing in hinges makes you a builder I have been in this Hobby to Long. I guess if you build a 40 size kit, you get the title of an Engineer. And if you build a BALSA USA 1/3 Scale Cub Kit you must get the title of a Master Carpenter like Norm Abram on Yakee Workshop. And the editors actually print this crap. I know a guy who use to write for this Mag, and I ask him a question about giving a bad review on a product. It never happens, because they ( the Mag ) will never get to do another review on that manufactures product again. The real deal was RC Report, before the owners started writing about his dog in the articles and from there it went down hill.

This England Magazine

This magazine subscription is a birthday gift for my Mother. She loves the magazine and when she's done with it she passes it along to an English lady in a local nursing home who also raves about it. My only problem is that it takes so long to receive the first copy. Why sixteen weeks?

This magazine is an outstanding summary of life in current England with comment on the effect that the EU is having (or trying to have) on traditional life of England. Also there are lots of historical comments and stories of days gone by much missed and interesting articles on places and people. All in all an ideal magazine for ex-pats and Anglophiles everywhere.

I subscribe to this magazine for my mother, who is a WWII War Bride, she loves to be able to read about her home country and this magazine encompasses many different articles that she enjoys reading. It's passed on to me, I was born in England, and I really love to read the articles and enjoy looking at the beautiful pictures.

We received This England Magazine gift subscription for years from one of my husband's friends, who lives in England, and always read it from cover to cover. When Amazon announced their magazine department, I was so happy to see This England and it is much more reasonable from Amazon than from the publisher (probably due to shipping charges).

Way to go , Amazon! I have ordered other magazines subscriptions and Amazon prices are good!

This is a great flag-waving rah rah British quarterly. The problem I have with it is they also get religious at times in some features going on about Christianity and the church etc. As a non-Christian I find that objectionable and would rather they stick to the topic of the country, the people and all that and just an occasional mention of the church as a small part of it. Remember recent surveys show less than 17% of British folks attend church weekly, compared with over 50% of Americans. If they'd stay out of the religious stuff I'd give them 5 stars as the rest of the content is first-rate! I also take this same firm's other quarterly called Evergreen. It has the same problems but it is still worth the money as well if you are an Anglophile!

Classic Trucks (1-year auto-renewal)

I started reading magazine years before I bought my first classic truck, mostly because I wanted to learn more about how much work goes into restoring a classic truck. I'm glad I subscribed, I've been a happy subscriber for about 4 years and I'm going to share my reasons why.

1.) I love old Chevy's. There is plenty of Ford and Chevy truck coverage. They try to incorporate Dodge, Studebaker, International and other less prolific brands too, but much of it comes from reader interest and what's out there.

2.) The articles are down to earth, so none of those obnoxious, snarky, self indulgent pieces that you may find in some of the major car magazines.

3.) Great depictions of the projects they take on. This gives you a good idea before-hand if you have the skill set, tools or space to take on the tasks. This is a magazine you can book mark and reference later.

4.) Full color magazine

5.) Interesting ads, all related to classic trucks and restoration parts

6.) Plenty of advice to help start a build.

Con

1.) If you are into Willys, Dodge, Studebaker, or International, you may not feel like they get as much coverage as the Fords and Chevys.

This is a great magazine. Not only you can have lots os information about places most people don't know, but also learn about american history. The magazine is great for those who love to travel America via the most beautiful and interesting roads this country has. Thr digital edition works perfectly on Kindle,and the print edition is of high quality paper and suitable for a collector. A must have magazine about the USA.

As someone who loves to read, and finds it increasingly difficult to find time to do so in a time crunched world, I rely on Audiofile magazine to point me in the direction of what will provide a great listening experience.It provides reviews which I find are very accurate and illuminating. I admit it; I'm addicted ... not to the heavy stuff, but instead head-over-heels in love with audiobooks. And they have found a friend in AudioFile, a truly wonderful magazine that informs addicts like me about the latest trends, equipment, books to hit the market. The down is that it's only published every other month. I voraciously read it both on line and the "hardcover" edition that arrives in my mailbox. Some other reviewer complains that the reviews are nothing more than recaps. While they are short and to the point, I disagree about the contents of the reviews. They're exactly what I'm looking for: an overview of the book, not an in-detail New York TImes type review. If I want to learn more I then check with Amazon to see what others feel. While I still purchase and read print books (they'll never go out of style!), I have found audiobooks a great alternative to curling up with Agatha Christie. And, hopefully, AudioFile, along with my newfound addiction to audiobooks, will continue to prosper and grow. It's good to be in on the ground floor!

For lovers of audio books, this is a must have magazine. The reviews are thorough and interesting. I have seldom found I review that has not been helpful. f I enjoy the articles and even the ads. The magazine has a service whereby they send you, via email, upcoming reviews. I am a knitter, handspinner and weaver and audio books are my constant companion. It is important to me to have a source of reviews. There is nothing like renting or buying and audio book and not liking it. I highly recommend this magazine.

Charlotte Magazine (1-year auto-renewal)

Charlotte Magazine has improved greatly during the 4 years I've lived in Charlotte. My impression 4 years ago was that the articles didn't have much depth and covered the local area with an almost marketing like view of Charlotte (everything's great here!). It just didn't present balanced and critical content as you would find in a great city magazine such as the Washingtonian. Fortunately, during the last 4 years the magazine has improved and now the articles have depth and demonstrate critical thinking and balanced views; which you won't find in the shallow and barely literate Charlotte Observer. The still have a little way to go, but they've made great progress in the quality of the publication, which is why I subscribed. The "event's" section is good for mainstream actives and covers quite a large number of events. Their coverage of unique, local retail shops and restaurants is also very good. If you live in Charlotte or plan to move here, I recommend you subscribe.

I only gave the magazine 4-stars because I wasn't sure what constituted a 5-star magazine. I bought the magazine because I am interested in learning about Charlotte and the State of North Carolina in general. For that, the magazine is great. Plenty of articles of information, and the pictures are fantastic. This is a very high quality magazine and if you're interested in learning about the culture of Charlotte, this is a great place to start. I've only had one issue delivered so far, but it was chock full of info, including a listing of DRs. in the are that you might need. Of course, the emphasis is on "what to do and see in Charlotte", but the magazine goes way deeper than that and provided just about everything you need to learn about the area.

Among the constellation of golf magazines, GOLF WORLD is the one that isn't straining to be a lifestyle magazine with golf thrown in.

With a look and feel similar to US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT, this golf newsweekly serves up the news, most of the news, and little else besides the news of the golf world.

It's refreshingly thin and direct to the point.

Shockingly, even the advertisements promote golf rather than luxury products.

Just the news.

I'm someone who is keenly interested in following competitive golf, both the mens and womens varieties, as a contested sport on worldwide venues. I'm also fascinated by the business of golf, as conducted by its various stakeholders the tours, the course owners and builders, the equipment manufacturers, the players and their various representatives (agents, lawyers, coaches, advisers, shrinks, branders, etc.). Sound like you? Then Golf World is exactly your cup of tea.

I am not remotely interested in articles telling me how to shave X strokes off my game, how to backspin a wedge, how to plan the ultimate golf vacation, how to choose the best golf shoe, etc. Someone got me a free one-year subscription to 'Golf.' I read not a single word of it. I glanced at a couple of issues and found a 0% overlap of the content vs. my areas of interest as noted above.

Golf World's writers are the sport's best Ron Sirak, Bob Verdi, John Hawkins and Jaime Diaz are four of many whose reporting and prose I'll put up against anyone in journalism. Of particular note, Sirak crafts pieces that often put a chill up my spine with their stirring emotional craftsmanship. The editors also deserve ample credit for maintaining the edge of the magazine. They keep it very relevant and newsworthy.

Elle (1-year auto-renewal)

I happen to really enjoy Elle, I believe that they have an even balance between fashion trends, accessories, shoes, articles and interviews. I do wish they would place less celebrities on magazine covers and more models again, but it is nice to see your favorite singer or actress on a magazine, esp Gwen Stefani who is always gorgeous. The magazine does tend to lean more towards the left in terms of politics but thats fine with me, if that isn't your preference maybe another magazine would be better suited for you. That aside, I'd say that out of all the high fashion magazines Elle would rank right next to Harper's Bazaar but behind Vogue.

OK we KNOW that you have all the "fashion" magazines already or you wouldn't be checking out this review. You might even be thinking to yourself-how can I possibly justify spending any more of my hard-earned cash looking at pictures of clothes/shoes/bags I will never in a million years be able to buy? The justification comes from something called a "point of view" which this mag has in spades compared to some of the others. They post great suggestions on undiscovered quality literary finds, recognize the difference between looking at a design for it's artistic merits and actually trying to walk in 5 1/2" platforms, wonderful columnists like E.Jean give good advice--basically we are talking about a cross between New Republic/Time/Vogue--with that combo the price makes this mag a great buy!

I have subscribed to Elle for nearly 20 years and I have seen it change in recent years into more of a In Style type mag. There is increasing focus on celebrities, with one on every cover. I find this annoying--if I wanted to see Britney Spears or Posh Spice I would buy the Enquirer or People. I wish Elle would go back to featuring relatively unknown models instead of actresses. I think the recent change in leadership is causing the magazine to have an identity crisis. They can't really compete with Vogue but they're not sure who they should be...InStyle? People? Glamour?

Despite the recent turmoil however, it's still a good magazine. I love the book recommendations, in-depth articles, and of course E.Jean.

This magazine is nothing more than a bunch of ads. There are very few stories put at the end of the magazine and the articles don't match the headlines on the front of the magazine. I only paid $5.00 for the entire year but I won't be renewing or recommending anyone else to purchase this product either. Don't waste any more trees to print this crap.

If you are an Elle Fan than of course this is probably a good deal. I subscribed for a year, but didn't get much out of it. I prefer Instyle more. The articles didn't interest me. I gave it three stars because Amazon did it's job, but Elle is not as impressive.
