Cookbook Digest

I was hoping to reconnect with the wonderful Cookbook Digest of 15 years ago. This is not it. The old mag had 50+ recipes from half a dozen cookbooks in each edition, and there were always some good ones. This has maybe a dozen at most per issue and in 6 months I've not yet found one I wanted to try. Really just no good. Sorry.

This cookbook magazine contains a nice balance of recipies. It selects the best of all new cookbooks.

DO NOT ORDER THIS ON AMAZON!!!!!! I placed the orderwas chargedbut it never came! I never had a problem with amazon! I contacted them and they were nice but had me contact acts and activities company who then told me they do not offer subscriptions anywhere except through themselves. so I was out $25 :( was not happy. this magazine is amazing though!

My sister, who teaches elementary art, loves this magazine series. she gets new ideas from it every time it comes. I have also gotten some great ideas to use in my 5th grade classroom.

Step By Step Wire Jewelry

This is my favorite wire working magazine. It has fun and original projects that can be completed with different skill levels. Instructions are usually clear and easy to follow.

I've subscribed to this magazine for awhile now and I really enjoy it. Lots of good ideas for wire wrapping.

There isn't much volume to this magazine not too many pages. Some fun projects but it would be great if there were more articles and instructions.

I bought this magazine for my surfer husband and he treats every issue as if it were made of gold. If you are looking for a surfing magazine with good articles, awesome pictures and even surfing products and DVD reviews, this is the magazine for you.

At a time when a lot of magazines are cutting back from full color full page photographs, Surfer continues to pump out magazines full of them. This is simply THE best magazine (in my opinion) for seeing the world from a surfer's perspective. There are lots of advertisements (which I like) and lots of stories about all the big name surfers you've heard about. I prefer Surfer to Surfing and TransWorld Surf.

An excellent read, all-in-all. The articles are interesting and full of surf information, recommendations, lingo, culture, competition, and basically almost anything you'd want to know about surfing and it's lifestyle. Full, live and vivid photographs. Just breathtaking, makes my beachy home, that much beachier. Great price and convenient subscription with Amazon, I'll take it, thank you!

Elle (1-year auto-renewal)

I happen to really enjoy Elle, I believe that they have an even balance between fashion trends, accessories, shoes, articles and interviews. I do wish they would place less celebrities on magazine covers and more models again, but it is nice to see your favorite singer or actress on a magazine, esp Gwen Stefani who is always gorgeous. The magazine does tend to lean more towards the left in terms of politics but thats fine with me, if that isn't your preference maybe another magazine would be better suited for you. That aside, I'd say that out of all the high fashion magazines Elle would rank right next to Harper's Bazaar but behind Vogue.

OK we KNOW that you have all the "fashion" magazines already or you wouldn't be checking out this review. You might even be thinking to yourself-how can I possibly justify spending any more of my hard-earned cash looking at pictures of clothes/shoes/bags I will never in a million years be able to buy? The justification comes from something called a "point of view" which this mag has in spades compared to some of the others. They post great suggestions on undiscovered quality literary finds, recognize the difference between looking at a design for it's artistic merits and actually trying to walk in 5 1/2" platforms, wonderful columnists like E.Jean give good advice--basically we are talking about a cross between New Republic/Time/Vogue--with that combo the price makes this mag a great buy!

I have subscribed to Elle for nearly 20 years and I have seen it change in recent years into more of a In Style type mag. There is increasing focus on celebrities, with one on every cover. I find this annoying--if I wanted to see Britney Spears or Posh Spice I would buy the Enquirer or People. I wish Elle would go back to featuring relatively unknown models instead of actresses. I think the recent change in leadership is causing the magazine to have an identity crisis. They can't really compete with Vogue but they're not sure who they should be...InStyle? People? Glamour?

Despite the recent turmoil however, it's still a good magazine. I love the book recommendations, in-depth articles, and of course E.Jean.

This magazine is nothing more than a bunch of ads. There are very few stories put at the end of the magazine and the articles don't match the headlines on the front of the magazine. I only paid $5.00 for the entire year but I won't be renewing or recommending anyone else to purchase this product either. Don't waste any more trees to print this crap.

If you are an Elle Fan than of course this is probably a good deal. I subscribed for a year, but didn't get much out of it. I prefer Instyle more. The articles didn't interest me. I gave it three stars because Amazon did it's job, but Elle is not as impressive.

Vanidades

A mi me encanta esta revista para practicar el espanol que aprendi en la escuela.

What I like about this magazine is that it's light, mindless reading that helps me keep up on my Spanish, especially slang. I try to get into books but I'm not hispanic and often can't relate to the stories. People en Espanol is a bit over the top in the check-out-your-brain department. Vanidades at least has some decent articles that I sometimes read to my son, like stories about Thomas Edison or other historical figures. I've tought my son to speak and read spanish as well and reading is an awesome tool to help me keep up on vocabulary. Bummer about the person that got spammed by this mag. I wish they'd spam me so I could get it for free!

I subscribe to this magazine for my 89 year old Mamá. She enjoys, loves Vanidades en español. She looks forward in reading Vanidades every single month. She reads it from front to back every single pagina.

Let me clarify: I am not a Spanish language speaker. Yet, suddenly I started receiving Vanidades magazine without making a subscription. Even worse, soon followed unsolicited subscriptions to Spanish Cosmopolitan and TvyNovelas. I discourage you to make a subscription, this magazine (or any of the others) is not worth your time their spamming practices are unacceptable.
