Christian Research Journal

Christian Research JournalHave subscribed to CRI journal previously for many years and when I lived overseas, but had to give it up when the organization became too difficult to deal with to get the subscription changed back to the US. But, wanted to give it another try.

Generally I like the content of the articles, some are quite inapplicable to me. Unfortunately, it looks to me like the articles have gotten smaller over the years, but same level of quality and attention to detail seems to be there.

My main objection is that when I subscribed to the magazine I didn't realize I was signing up for fundraising letters. I support the organization, but hate to see them waste money on fundraising mail that's not going to get responded to. Why they don't just put it in their magazine and let the reader decide to donate above and beyond as they see fit I don't know.

I just ordered a 2-year subscription, and I can't wait to get my first copy. I have been very interested in the ideas of this Journal for years, but I am only now subscribing. It is expensive, but the original research and contents of the Journal promise to make up the difference. It's basically a scholarly journal but presented in a nice magazine format and written to the college educated reader without assuming they have their PhD in Philosophy or Theology. I look forward to getting my first copy.

It's a GREAT magazine but the price is outrageous now! I think they know they have a good product and have gotten a little too proud of it.

I ordered this for my son-in-law for Christmas. When I ordered it I got a reply that it would be 14-16 wks. before he would receive. But to my surprise when I gave him the card telling him of his gift, he had already received the first copy. He is very pleased with the magazine.

Montana : the Magazine of Western History

Montana : the Magazine of Western HistoryI have received Montana for the last three years. Articles are informative and often quite thought provoking. Recent articles on health-care history and social welfare in gold rush-era Virginia City relate directly to issues we face today. Other articles, if not directly relevant to me, have at least told interesting or entertaining stories on topics like pioneer women, Indian history, battles, etc. All in all, I look forward to each issue.

Love this!! I live in Montana and this is full of great information and beautiful pictures. Some family will be getting this as gifts.

Click

ClickI've been subscribing to Click, along with its sister publication, Ladybug, for about 2 years now. It's a great way to introduce the "real world" to my 5-year-old.

As an earlier review noted, each issue has a specific theme. For example, the last few issues were titled "At The Zoo", "In The Night Sky", "In The Islands", and "Busy Cities". This makes each issue like a mini-book, to be read and re-read, depending on your child's interest in the topic of the month.

Even if the current issue's topic doesn't engage your child, he/she will still want to read it, if only to see the recurring features, such as "Click & The Kids" and "Yo Wants To Know". This combination is a great way to introduce new topics in a familiar setting.

The writing is fresh and much more interesting to young minds than what you find in some other kids' magazines. Each story is well-illustrated. A given issue will have a variety of types of writing cartoons, photoessays, non-fiction articles, 4-5 page fiction stories, and ideas of things to do.

This mix is great for kids with variable attention spans if he/she can sit for 30 minutes, you can read the whole magazine. If 5 minutes, or 15 minutes, is today's limit, you can find something to fit that span.

Finally, as another reviewer noted, the magazine is written at several different comprehension levels, meaning that it spans the suggested age range quite well, with something for everyone, and that you can go back and read old issues with more mature eyes and get a new experience.

All in all, this magazine has been a great source of information for my son, and I recommend it highly.

Click is a kids magazine that addresses the physical world in a way that appeals across a broad age range.

The Cricket Group seems to have cut its teeth on first literary magazines (Spider and Cricket), but Click is the complement, discussing the real concrete world of "people who work at night", "where things come from", "on the moon", and "surviving in the desert".

The articles range from early read-it-yourself to longer listening stories. Recurring cartoons with text "Clicks and the kids", "Yo wants to know" and "Beatrice Black Bear" are perennial favorites.

The real magic to Click is that it is a preferred read for both our 7 and 4 year olds. That is a tough spread, but Click has and is the favorite. When its time to read to both, or time for a warm comfort, Click is it.

When you order, find a safe place to keep the issues, because they will be read and re-read. And if you are doing the re-reading, you may want to refresh with last year's issue.

My four year old and seven year old enjoy this magazine which is published by the Smithsonian and Cricket. Working with one theme (ie, gardens, animal homes, working animals, flight, communication, etc.) the magazine presents the material with stories, comic strips, non-fiction articles and games. The issues are 36 pages long, not too long to read in one sitting, but thorough and satisfying. The photographs and illustrations are attractive and informative. The only complaint I have about it is that there are only nine issues in twelve months, a problem in my house since my older children's magazines come every month. Otherwise, this is an excellent magazine and well worth the money.

My curious 3 1/2 yr old pre-schooler is absolutely fascinated by the themes in this magazine. A few of the articles are above his level which means I will be saving the magazine in a slipcase for future re-reading. The last issue I received was on the theme of magnification -and we played with a magnifying glass and now more than a month later he enjoys pulling out a magnifying glass and magnifying all of the teeny tiny objects that catch his interest like the little metal balls in mazes, ants outside the house etc... Don't pass on this one, it has in depth articles, and plenty of pictures to engage a young ones interest too. What a great opportunity for open ended learning!

...once you tear out the subscription cards, there are no ads (unless you count one unobtrusive one buried in the publisher's information, telling you how to renew your subscription or order a slipcase).

Each issue includes a tear-out activity...a craft or game related to that issue's theme.

The cast of characters is fairly diverse with various races represented. And if you like your child's reading material to be secular, this magazine fits the bill.

My 4 year old and I look forward to each issue...it's a little expensive for 9 issues, but it's worth it!

4wd Toyota Owner

4wd Toyota OwnerI don't subscribe to many magazines, but when this mag came out I just had to have a subscription. I subscribed online and received my first copy about a week later. It's one of the best things I've ever done!

This magazine is great packed full of USEFUL articles. There are a tons of articles on repairs and upgrades, new equipment coming out, driving tips, 4WD events, how-to articles, and more. The photos are great, not too many ads, and I've learned so much from each issue. I give this magazine a "10" I highly recommend this mag for anyone who has a 4WD Toytoa!

I've subscribed to this magazine since the very first issue. The articles and tech write ups are top notch minus a few typos. Compared to some other Toyota specific magazines like "toyota trails",4wd Toyota Owner gives much more room for "how to" and

"build up" articles and not so much space is wasted on reporting a trip that a few guys took to D'lo Mississippi in search of the rare jara jara edition fj40 like some magazines. So if you ever wanted to know what other engine would fit into your 85 pickup or how to increase the horsepower on your mall cruiser i would highly recommend this magazine.

I purchased this for my husband who loves his Toyota truck. He loved it and read the magazine cover to cover. He hardly ever reads anything cover to cover! I used it as a Christmas list because he found things in it that he wanted to add to his truck but didn't want to spend the money on. Here is the reason I only gave it 3 stars... We didn't receive all of our issues. I contacted Amazon and they were very helpful. After contacting them, we received one of the missing magazines. We only received 4 magazines total. I have ordered it again because the hubby loved it so much. I will have to make sure I contact Amazon or the magazine as soon as we notice we didn't get one of them.

Here is the break down...

1. The magazine itself is great and lots of information.

2. The magazine has great ideas for purchases and upgrades to your truck

3. Not getting all of your magazines kinds of sucks.

Inc. (1-year auto-renewal)

Inc.Inc. is one of my favorite magazines. It has good, practical information for the entrepreneur and small business owner, as well as anyone who is interested in business. Unlike other business magazines that contain articles that are long and ponderous, Inc. doesn't waste your time with tedium.

Its sister publication, Fast Company, is also good.

Two reviewers gave this magazine low ratings because they hadn't received their first issue after 4 weeks. Look, it CLEARLY states: "Availability: The first issue should arrive in 6-10 weeks." That means the first issue should arrive between 1½ and 2½ months after the order is placed. It hurts to see a great magazine get a lower rating than it deserves because some people either can't read or can't do math.

Used to be excellent magazine with practical advice.

More and more of the content is now fluffy dream stuff.

The businesses they feature are now almost all ones that depend on fashion and customer whim cupcakes, T-shirts, micro-breweries not sustainable businesses.

Good columns are gone. The one good column left is by the wife of the man who built Stonyfield Farm yogurt about how entrepreneurship affects your family.

Buy Inc. (1-year auto-renewal) Now

I like this magazine because it's just right for a business owner who runs almost any kind or size of business.

It's not focused on one set of things like technology even though it does have technological tips. It's not a magazine trying to sell you other businesses. It actually gives you sound and productive advice. It gives you ideas that are applicable in the real world and on the forefront so you can be ahead of your competitors. The language is practical enough to be understood by beginning business owners and those who have plenty of experience in the business world. I've tried other business magazines but the others either have too much advertising, focus on one subject (like investments, stocks, etc), try to do nothing but sell you other franchises and other services, or are only useful to a narrow set of business models. Try this one. You'll definitely benefit and enjoy the read.

I have been reading Inc. for the past 3 years. I love it. I am currently in business school and I am taking a lot of entrepreneurship classes. I have been surprised how often the articles have been relevant to cases and discussions in school. I would highly recommend this magazine to anyone interested in entrepreneurship or who is working in or running a small business.

Greensource : the Magazine of Sustainable Design

Greensource : the Magazine of Sustainable DesignDon't let the great cover photos fool you. This magazine is all advertisement. It does not have any good articles. It is only a source book with the same products. It should be sent out free.

I read these magazines cover to cover and find they are full of great information for those interested in sustainable design. There are articles on those in the field and what they are doing but what I find most interesting are the case studies. These studies are absolutely inspiring and full of helpful knowledge.

I will say the first time I ordered a magazine, Architectural Record, from McGraw Hill (publisher of Green Source and Architectural Record) I never received my magazine either but I cancelled it and got all of my money back. I decided to take the chance with them because I was really interested in this magazine and was not disappointed.

Buy Greensource : the Magazine of Sustainable Design Now

I do have to agree with the other reviews about there being a lot of ads. However, I am not complaining. That is one reason that I subscribe to magazines actually. There is a lot of innovation in the sustainability field and at times it is hard to keep up on new technology that is available. I am a renewable energy systems installer and like to know about new technology before my customers do. That is why I really like this magazine. There are also some pretty complex ideas that I have came up with and this magazine was the spark for those ideas. Would I recommend it to someone outside the field? Probably not unless you really like to be on the cutting edge. Unlike tv's or computers, most of these technology upgrades require a significant an investment, especially when retrofitting. Hope this helps.

I ordered this magazine in November and I still haven't received 1 issue (April 5th). It is supposed to come every 2 months, it was scheduled to ship in March (10th)... so they have had plenty of time. At the very least, this magazine must be very unorganized.

InStyle (1-year auto-renewal)

InStyleHello, first off, I'm a dad and I got this magazine to add to other subscriptions for my daughter as she went from the tweens to the teens to help introduce her to styles and products in the marketplace.

Oddly enough, I have benefited a lot being able to recommend many of the products advertised therein to her (we used a Neutrogena face wash this week that actually worked!) and to have some idea what to purchase as gifts for other family members, etcetera.

As clothes and cosmetics become more and more expensive it helps to be able to make an informed decision the first time you buy and I enjoy giving many of the products as gifts for birthdays, Christmas, and surprises.

The magazine portrays some glitz but really appears to be excellent in its articles, advice, and the products it advertises (editor: cigarette ads are the exception).

Having run the gauntlet of women's and girls magazines and read all of them that my daughter subscribed to growing up for content and to discuss ideas with her, I recommend this for women and teens.

Be sure to order from Amazon, as I had major problems trying to give a gift subscription from InStyle's website as their site placed the order when I did NOT complete the order process and billed my friend instead of me and instead of being a surprise it was a month of wasted time back and forth with e-mails cancelling subscriptions and all the while they stated that I should notify so-and-so if I was displeased, but so-and-so NEVER got back to me, what a total mess!

Be careful with auto-renewal option. Just received auto-renewal for 1 year at the rate of $29.95 ! NOT a good deal on 2nd year.

I ordered this subscription in mid December and still have not received my first issue. I would love to say I love the product though!

I bought my first issue of InStyle two years ago and its gone downhill imho. The article titles on the front typically have absolutely nothing to the article itself, like what to wear now does not explain what to wear now nor does it point you in any general direction. The only plus side to the magazine is that it features bargain prices on clothing every once in a while. The pairings of clothing they put together used to be great, very wearable for the daytime and for most people not in a fashion business. Now it seems as if they've tried to mimic the weirdness that you see in Lucky magazine.

Another plus is the makeup and hair section, they do a good job showing what the newest trends in makeup are with a wide range of prices and products. FYI skintones are also factored in.

Not only is this magazine a fun read, but also informative. It gives great ideas on what to wear, what make-up or skin products are the best, the latest hot spots and fun places to go, and great ideas for gifts and parties. The interviews and articles are informative and fun, but my favorite section is when they let you in on a celebrity/prominent person's party or get together. They give you all the details as well as some recipes of items they serve so you could recreate it if you wanted to. I like it so much I actually bought the InStyle Party book! This is a great magazine!

Soaps in Depth - ABC

Soaps in Depth - ABCI love all of ABC's soaps and this magazine is great for people like me. Along with soap news it has a lot of good articles about the actors. It's great. :)

This mag is great! I LOVE ABC soaps. My college classes make me miss most episodes, and although I try to tape them all I miss some. ABC Soaps in Depth keeps me up to date on everything going on in Llandview and Port Charles. It also has a bunch of candid pics of the actors. I highly reccomend it.

Buy Soaps in Depth - ABC Now

I like this magazine and just renewed my subscription. Two things I don't like ...

1. The cover titles are deceiving. Example: They'll say someone is "leaving forever" when they're not leaving the show ... just leaving a relationship. Many articles are not what they seem based on the cover's titles. But, that's OK. The articles are usually pretty good anyway.

2. The news is often old by the time it's printed. That happens because it only comes out every 2 weeks. I also read Soap Opera Digest, which is weekly and more up to the minute.

But, overall I like this magazine because of the feature articles on each show. I like that they are all ABC shows. I don't care about shows on other channels so magazines that feature those are just waste of paper for my tastes.
