Simple & Delicious

Simple & DeliciousI'll keep this review simple (and delicious). Like another reviewer said, it's pretty much all recipes and very little of anything else. You get the occasional kitchen shortcut, product comparison and article but nowhere near what Taste of Home or other cooking magazines offer. Is that a bad thing? Well it depends on what you're looking for. I subscribed because I wanted simple recipes I could make during the weeknight and not spend a lot of money. That's exactly what S&D delivers. As for the recipes themselves most of them are hits with only a few so far being near misses. Out of the three Taste of Home magazines, (Taste of Home and Healthy Cooking being the other two) this one is my favorite and the only one I subscribe to. If you're looking for an upgrade of this type of magazine then I would recommend Cook's Country.

I got this magazine as the companion publication of Taste Of Home, (TOH). While TOH is a nice collection of articles and features, along with recipes, this magazine is pretty much a bi monthly set of recipes only, with a couple of short, not so in depth articles along the way. It's a thin magazine that for me is fit for mostly browsing, more than really reading. There is always a generous amount of recipes of all kinds with every issue, but truly without the entertainment of in depth articles and regular departments I feel you can do just as well browsing the web for dinner. Not really a bad magazine or rip off, but in my opinion still not worth it. I will probably end up letting it drop when its finished...

Kayak Session

Kayak SessionKayak Session, "The International Whitewater Kayaker Magazine" is very international and optically very impressive. Great quality photos on glossy paper finally make our sport appealing to non-paddlers as well.

"If a photo speaks a thousand word, then Kayak Session is an encyclopedia..."

Kayak Session Magazine is simply the best paddling magazine in the world. The thick and glossy paper, super refined lay out, and fantastic photography makes it stand out on its own; Dubbed as the "national geography " of kayaking, it brings coffee table quality to the paddling world.

Kayak Session is a photo/travelling magazine that is as core as it can get.

The International content brings the little plus that makes you travel while sitting in your living room.

A must have for any watersports enthusiast.

Music Connection

Music ConnectionHad always heard about it, but the first time I read MC was when I started working for this music management firm couple years ago. The office subscribes. Compared to the other notable music magazines I've browsed, Music Connection cover stories always seem to showcase bands, artists and producers I'd actually be interested in reading about. I was fortunate enough to even have my own music reviewed in one of their issues! The folks who put this mag together seem to be real musicians and genuine music fans, making for a great publication!

Music Connection is a great magazine. Being a publicist, I've worked with them directly and can only say good things. When covering large name artists, they always make sure to ask questions that will be helpful for smaller, up and coming artists and all their articles are a good read.

I am a guitar player and have been a subscriber for 5+ years. This magazine is great for anyone wanting to learn about music or the music business

This magazine is packed with good music business information. It has frequent interviews with heavy decision makers and could be used as a good source for understanding current and future trends within the industry. This is a must have for anyone who is or wishes to enter the music industry. That being said it isn't perfect. It doesn't provide information backed by credible research. If a business provides subpar service you'll never know it until after the fact. It also doesn't do well in terms of providing tips, tricks, and how-tos, but if you want to know about available resources or read the perspective of business leaders this is a good magazine to purchase.

I got this for a teen cousin of mine that was interested in music as a career. I later canceled it (and I'm still waiting on that to go through) because it was over her head. I think it would be very good for someone that can grasp the information better. For a teen, stick to the more basic mags.

Superb Fill It Ins - Bonus Large Print

Superb Fill It Ins - Bonus Large PrintI am 85 years old and I have macular degeneration along with cataracts and all the other vision problems that come with age. I love to work word puzzles and my son ordered these for me. They are really easy to read, and I want more!

I cannot review this specific product as ordered from Amazon, as I have not yet begun to receive issues yet. When I ordered the Fill In Word Pluzzle books, I was advised it would take up to 3 months for processing before I would receive the issues.

That almost made me cancel my order, but decided I could wait for the books to arrive. One thing however, the price was not any sort of "deal" as the subscription would cost the same if I went directly through the publisher.

If I did this, I would have received issues sooner. Still waiting for my first puzzle book.

I can say with certainty I will be pleased with the books, as I have purchased them in the past and I am quite happy with the product. Thank you Gilda M.

Southwest Art (1-year)

Southwest ArtSOUTHWEST ART has been around for a long time, a journal that focused on the art of the southwestern regional artists of this country plus a heavy dollop of how-to articles on pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil etc. It was, and to some extent remains, the chief reference source of cowboy art, Indian art, and the galleries of Santa Fe, Scottsdale, Houston, and environs.

But recent issues show an increased awareness of the classical arts and the current issue, subtitled the Collector's Issue, is a strong indication that the magazine is growing in a healthy way. Recent past articles on Drawing included some of our finest artists in the country. Now there are focus articles on particular artists whose works contain no elements of the general past subject matter. For example, the very strong American artist Wes Hempel is featured in this Collector's Issue in a fine article by Devon Jackson entitled 'Personal Mythologies', and while Hempel's works are highly respected and collected from California to New York and in collections in Europe (especially Italy), the writing and generous illustrations in Jackson's article introduce new information that informs this gifted artist's work. And immediately following the article on Hempel is another fine monograph on photographer Keith Carter paying homage to this teacher and practitioner of his craft.

With changes such as these Southwest Art could enter the pantheon of important American if not international art journals. It bodes well! And yet there still is enough 'western art' to satisfy even the most insatiable appetite for Indian markets and men on horseback looking off into the sunset....Grady Harp, November 05

I subscribe to several art magazines and this includes both fine arts & art instruction. I find that the the quartet of Southwest Art, American Art Collector, Art of the West and Southwest Art all complement each other. I have had a subscription to Southwest Art for five plus years and I also give a gift subscription to an artist friend of mind. While the magazine does showcases the 'traditional' western art there is a wide variety of art to enjoy. The 'traditional' western art shown is of high quality and you will never be bored .It amazes me that once you leave the sanctimonious New York art world how many really good artists are out there using paint to create some beautiful and compelling works of art. I like the fact that the publisher ships in a recyclable bag which means that I stand a chance of Southwest Art arriving in good condition. There are special issues each year. February showcases landscapes and there are issues that showcase still-life, figurative, sculpture , contemporary and Native American art. A nice way to group together artists that work in the same field -it helps you to compare and contrast a wide variety of art. I have one problem-I am going to run out of room because I never throw out an issue!

This magazine is by far the best for western art. Great articles on artists and techniques. Excellent quality magazine.

I'm a long-time subscriber to the magazine, but have joined many other readers in noticing its drift away from the genre of its own title. While "Art of the West" and "Western Art Collector" both maintain a strong focus on true western art, "Southwest Art" is becoming more generalized in its content, overlapping "Art in America" significantly. There are always a few pages of true southwestern art, but the vast majority of the magazine features cityscapes, floral still lifes, ballerinas and dancers, seascapes and boats, roads, etc. In fact, most of the glimpses of actual southwestern art (mountains, Indians, cowboys, buffalo/elk-style wildlife) are found not in the magazine's content, but in the advertisement images. I'm hanging on for another year, but if it doesn't remember its own focus I'll have to let it go and stick to the other two magazines by themselves.

Transworld Snowboarding (1-year auto-renewal)

Transworld SnowboardingParents beware of age appropriateness! I purchased a subscription to this magazine for my teenage son as a Christmas present. I'm so glad I previewed it first. I realize that snowboarders have colorful language and a certain culture (I used to be a skateboarder as a kid). However, I would caution parents that this magaine contains some sexually explicit advertisements for snowboard equipment and the interviews and some of the columns contain foul language and explicit references. Everything but the "f" word is in full print and even that you don't have to imagine because only part of it is "x'd" out. Yes, my son is old and wise enough to know the connotations and the language. No one's kid is a saint but that verbage and some of that content isn't acceptable in my household. I actually yanked one of the two page advertisements that was very visually sexual and containted the language to go with it as well (and a website). I have a younger daughter that I didn't want to even see this magazine! Otherwise the magazine is cool and would appeal to all level's of snowboarders. It does contain a lot of advertisement though. I enjoyed the travel articles and seeing the snow from a snowboarder's perspective (except for the trashiness part). It was also nice to read interviews with professional snowboarders who didn't have to trash talk to explain their views. So if you are a parent, I caution you that this is material you will want to check out before giving it to your kid. I almost pulled the subscription but made an agreement that I will preview the magazine and edit as necessary before it enters the house and it cannot be left out around younger kids. I'm interested to see if further editions are like my first eye-opener. We'll see if we continue with it. I'm sure there are people out there that will trash me for my viewpoints on profanity but this time I had to take a stand. You are free to check it out and make your own opinions!

I really like Transworld. They always have great articles, and when I read it, it always gets me pumped up for snowboarding!

Golf Magazine (1-year auto-renewal)

Golf MagazineI read both Golf & Golf Digest for years [I should practice & play more and read less about golf...] :-) But, in recent years, Golf Digest has strayed far from what I want in a golf magazine three examples: GD put in a fashion column [nobody I golf with has ever discussed golf clothing or styles!]; GD added a smarmy gossip column [trying to compete with the tabloids?]; GD no longer objectively reviews golf equipment [they now offer a "hot list" which amazingly enough coincides with their big advertisers]. Golf magazine has avoided these stupidities PLUS it has the spice of David Feherty's column despite the fact that it was cut in half a couple years back. Golf is now clearly superior to Golf Digest.

This magazine has good articles about golf and on golf instruction. The pictures on golf instruction are always very clear and not hard to follow. I think there are too many ads at times which I sometimes get tired of reading...

I recommend the following books on golf instruction that I found to be highly beneficial.

The first one is "Zen Golf", which shows the mental side of the game and makes playing golf easier in this aspect.

The second book I recommend on the physical aspect of golf is "The Ultimate Golf Instruction Guide: Key Techniques for Becoming a Zero Handicap Golfer or Better." This book really has some amazing and unique stuff about the golf swing. I finally scored below 80 because of this book.

Golf Magazine is definitely my favorite magazine on golf. I also love their issue every year on new golf equipment. This issue I find the best. It shows you how golfers with different handicaps perform with different clubs. It even shows clubhead speeds and measured driving distance of each person who is testing the clubs. I find this very interesting.

Buy Golf Magazine (1-year auto-renewal) Now

I've found GOLF magazine to be the best of the golf magazines available. The reasons I particularly like it are its very useful and well diagrammed golf tips, some of which have improved my play quite a bit in the last couple of years. I also like their feature articles which highlight a particular pro and analyze their swings and then illustrate how you can apply them to your game. Generally a magazine less interested in selling you new clubs than in teaching you how to play golf, GOLF is a solid read. They do at times stray into "my how awesome all these new clubs, balls, gloves, etc. are" (honestly when was the last time you saw a NEGATIVE review in any trade magazine???), but their recommendations based on your style of game are useful. Overall it is an excellent publication for any golfer from casual to obsessed.

Read Best Reviews of Golf Magazine (1-year auto-renewal) Here

For a golfer, no matter whether good or bad, Golf magazine is definitely a must. Golf magazine is literally packed full of tips and tricks that will help with their golf game, whether the trouble is their putting, sand shots, chipping,, driving, putting, or even just your stance or swing. By reading golf magazine, a golfer could easily shave strokes off of his or her game.

So what about non-golfers? Not a problem. Golf magazine is also full of very interesting articles and profiles about active golfers, celebrities who golf. Golf magazine is also full of very interesting facts, rules and statistics, that are also interesting to people who may not be involved in the game of golf. Golf magazine is also not for people of any specific age. I would definitely say Golf magazine is a good read for anyone from middle school, all the way to the elderly.

Golf magazine is a great subscription to have for one who is thinking about or trying to pick up the game as well. It is full of tips for beginners, and great product reviews. By picking up a Golf magazine, someone could find out what clubs and balls would be right for them to make an investment in. By reading one simple issue, one might find out not only what equipment would be best for them to use, but also how to properly hold the clubs, tee the balls, swing correctly, and so on. This is very convenient, because they would not just go start playing incorrectly, and they wouldn't have to pay thousands of dollars for expansive lessons by a course professional.

Not a whole lot to say about the "golf magazine" other that its the best golf magazine out there!! Great tips, interesting player profiles, colorful and clear instruction photos. Info is always current!!

Beckett Sports Card Monthly

Beckett Sports Card MonthlyThis $7.99 (USA cover price) monthly magazine is generally a waste. Sure, the lists of collectible cards from the past are nice, but the price guide itself is severely lacking. It only carries the most recent year's worth of cards, and is missing several issuers. It tries to offer pricing in many sports with niche hobby following (golf, wrestling, tennis) at the expense of coverage on the big ones, like MLB and NFL.

Save your money for the regular monthly Beckett price guide in your preferred sport... or better yet, spend about twice as much as this single issue costs, and subscribe for a year.

As Described-shows just a little of ALL sports, since new cards are more likley to change they are more prevelent.

Buy it once in awhile, but Sports in season require their own purchase,ie Beckett Baseball or Football offer more and the yearly issue will cover even more.

Problem is the prices are not all that relevant unless ou hace to buy at a card shop.CUrrent prices are more esily found 'live' on eBay!-search listings. But it does help as a guide for buying and selling.
