USA Today : the Nations Newspaper - 6 Month Subscription

USA Today : the Nations Newspaper - 6 Month SubscriptionThis subscription for USA Today was ordered and paid for yet I never received a single issue for over 2 months even though the delivery time was about one month.

When I called the Magazine service as instructed by Amazon, I was told that the delivery would be delayed another month. This was unacceptable and I cancelled the subscription. I was told I would receive a refund. I assumed since not one issue was received that I would be refunded the $52.00 I paid. Shortly later I get an e-mail from Amazon the I was refunded only $17.00

I e-mailed back and was told to contact the Magazine service. I the responded that I had already done that and I should receive a full refund. That was the last e-mail I sent to Amazon. It's about 3 weeks now and I've still not gotten a reply from Amazon. I'm accepting that I was screwed out of $35...and will never again order a subscription from Amazon.

Great paper when it arrives, our subscription started a few weeks ago and it's been coming on and off ever since then. Somedays we get the paper, some days we don't. When you call Magazine Express they seem helpful and will offer to call the delivery source to try to find out what the issues are. In the future I'll just order direct from USA Today, it's the same price and you can cut out the problems with the "middle man".

LOVE the paper.

I buy it everyday (when available next to STARBUCKS)

But oftentimes it just wasn't there. once every 7-8 days maybe

So I thought with the subscription it would be better...NOT

I must be in a BAD area, San Diego-East Del Mar.

I was VERY disappointed and I cancelled after the delievry was even WORSE.

They missed at least ONCE a week.

I have read Usa Today for years. I tried the three month trial. I knew it was an automatic renewal on my credit card for an additional month if I did not cancel my subscription. I did call one month prior to renewal date to stop the renewal. When I contined to get the newspaper after the ending date I called customer service. (Oh, you cannot cancel your EZ pay on line. You have to call them.) When I called and ask about my account the rep said I would be charged. I ask to speak to someone else. Couldn't do it. Would not let me. So, I wrote an email on their "Contact Us". Got an email that said someone would contact me. Never did. Sent another email. Same result. I will never deal with them again.

I ordered this subscription for my son. The paper delivery started sooner than expected. It arrives promptly each week day and is in perfect condition. My son has enjoyed the articles, particularly those in the sports section. He plans on renewing the subscription when it runs out.

Gay & Lesbian Review Worldwide

Gay & Lesbian Review WorldwideI have come to really like this magazine.

Most gay oriented magazines are not very 'readable'

in that they don't reflect very much.

In this magazine I found so far always something

that really engaged me and gave me a sense of

enrichment. It has a combination of variety and

depth that is difficult to achieve for any kind

of magazine. I' am renewing my subscription.

For sure this magazine is not glamour at all. But you find in it indeep articles about very interresting topics. It offers real reflections about gay life. I always learn a lot of things in it. I would say that it is the Time magazine for the gays.

Buy Gay & Lesbian Review Worldwide Now

I was looking for a lesbian magazine that wasn't about celebrities and other nonsense that I did not care for. It also needed to be entertaining or at least hold my attention for more than five minutes. The cover price is $4.95 and the subscription price is the same.

After receiving one issue I cancelled my subscrition. Here are some of the articles that put me to sleep; 1.) Gennady Trifonov, Dissident Russian Poet, Dies at 65 2.) How the Media Suppress Japan's Gay Past (1800's) 3.) Auden's Bardic Return to Oxford 4.) Modernism Comes to Old Albion (1910 London art show) 5.) Humiliation is a Grand Life Event (interview with Wayne Koestenbaum, author of Humiliation). May be great reading for someone with an interest in literature, let's say a professor of English lit at Stanford. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being mindless brain candy and 10 requiring 100% attention while reading, I would place tabloids at 1 and this magazine at 10. I spend my days designing and writing Cobol code, my mind in deep thought so during the evenings I do not desire to occupy my mind the same way. This magazine is not for me but may be what you have been looking for all your life.

Lots of great reading. I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to discover this magazine. I'm sure I'll be a subscriber for a long time.

Channel Guide

Channel GuideThis magazine is a great resource but I absolutely LOVE the September fall preview issue. I rely on it every year to know what I should record on my DVR and what I should skip. As a cable customer with a DVR and an on-screen guide TV listings menu I promise you that this magazine is still helpful. The magazine makes recommendations and suggestions for the entire month. The articles introduce me to shows I never would've found scanning through the on-screen guide. Plus, you frequently get to download special programming calendars around the holidays. This magazine is a must have if you love watching TV and movies.

I've read the magazine for a number of years and it never disappoints me. Not only do I get schedules at a moment's notice I can search by by show name, by specials, by sports, almost anyway you could identify what you want to watch. You get the added bonus of entertainment news. Get it, it's good.

Channel Guide is the best television guide out there! I use the Channel Guide to plan what I am going to record on my DVR and I like that if I miss the start of a movie I can look in the movie section to find when it will air again. Channel Guide

I absolutely love this magazine! I can't wait each season to see the new shows coming out, as well as the programs that are recommended. The guide does a great job outlining these programs in an organized fashion that allows me to easily set my dvr for the programs I am interested in. Well worth the money for the convenience!

Waterski (1-year auto-renewal)

WaterskiWaterski Magazine is a good publication for those who enjoy water sports and want to improve their skiing skills, look for buying advice, and find new places to ski. This publication centers its articles on water skiing advice, choosing the best equipment, keeping safe, etc., with an occasional article on boating, jet skiing and other related topics.

Advice seems to be the most important component of Waterski and it can be found in several of the monthly departments and in several of the featured articles. Rather than rely only on advice from the Waterski staff, the magazine also includes advice from water skiing professionals and semiprofessionals who have devoted much time and energy to the sport they love. Whether it's a set of exercises to improve flexibility or a lecture on proper posture, Waterski is always ready to offer its readers tips on ways to make water skiing more fun and more enjoyable.

Oddly enough, Waterski doesn't devote as much space in its departments and monthly features to buying as I predicted it would. Yes, it is common to find a section that describes new types of gear and there is a marketplace section in the back of each issue with things for sale. But there are only a few of these. The editors seem more concerned with the enjoyment and the competitive side of water skiing than with promoting new products and services.

The instructional pieces found in Waterski are very good and very thorough and I would surmise that most readers of Waterski come here for this reason. They often include step by step instructions for performing specific maneuvers, for utilizing a specific type of equipment to the fullest, for coping with injuries, etc. These instructional guides are often very useful for the skiing enthusiast because they explain exactly what to do, how to improve, and how to avoid problems.

Overall, Waterski is a good magazine for those who enjoy this sport and actively participate in water skiing a few times per year. The instructional material in this magazine is often very good, thorough, and easy to understand and the photographs of men and women flying across the surface of the water are often quite fascinating. These factors make Waterski a very good choice of reading material for skiing participants or for anyone else who enjoys waterrelated activities.

Zymurgy

ZymurgyFor the $38 membership, you get the magazine for free when you join the AHA ;

The magazine is great if you are past the beginner stage of beermaking. It can be a bit on the technical side, but if you love making beer, then it's great information.

I have to agree that a)this is an essential for the homebrewer who wants to learn more and b)that it could be better.

I love homebrewing and for me being able to read little tips here and there both improves what I do, and also keeps my ego in check and reminds me NOT to take out the loan on the brewery just yet. Zymurgy is good to answer questions and generally keep a pulse on the hobby.

That being said, it can be sometimes repetitive (and they even seem to repeat themselves sometimes!) but usually the letters and other completely novel things will counteract the repetitious ideas.

All of that being said, I completely agree that subscribing to this magainze in any way other than joining AHA is silly.

Buy Zymurgy Now

Must-have for those who brew. Great recipes included and you can use your membership card at microbreweries for discounts. Well done, Zymurgy.

My only real complaint is they're not monthly issues. Zymurgy is very informative and relevant for every homebrewer whether you brew solo like me or in clubs and like to compete. Highly recommended.

Met - Modern English Teacher

Met - Modern English TeacherWhile the title of the review may sound really boring, I have to say that Modern English Teacher is one of the most modern, relevant and interesting journals in the field. Covering a huge range of issues, including technological applications in the classroom, this journal has something to offer every teacher for use in the class.

The journal also reviews a variety of works that are written by others, and these reviews are usually very much on the mark in terms of opinion and guidance towards useful material.

My own favourites are the technology articles that give ideas and techniques for exploiting technology in the class. One enduring favourite has been the music and iPod articles, (even though I have a different MP3 player), which have given useful input into an area that I am really interested in.

If you are thinking of subscribing to a journal for English teaching, I think this one is among the best. Wodnerfully presented on high quality, glossy paper, "Modern English Teacher" is indeed relevant and very practical. It has been truly written for the teaching teacher.

Popular Mechanics (1-year auto-renewal)

Popular MechanicsMy rating is for the overall package of magazine and subscription service.

The subscriptions are handled by BuySub and they appear to be totally incompetent. I ordered Popular Mechanics and several other magazine subscriptions. I have an Amazon account, my address is totally correct, I was charged for the subscriptions, and all were fine except the one handled by BuySub ... somehow the goons at BuySub screwed up my address so badly that the USPS refused to deliver the magazine. BuySub/Hearst offers no phone call and their "Contact Us" page doesn't always work, so I had to resort to sending queries via email. I corrected my address and explaind that I was missing 2 issues according to their record of when my subscription started. They responded telling me that they would send only 1 of the 2 issues. They never sent that issue, nor did my subscription resume after I corrected the address. I contacted them again and told them I was now missing 3 issues and told them they needed to send the issues or extend my subscription. They responded with "Your request to cancel your subscription has been received".

TOTAL INCOMPETENCE! I did not request to cancel my subscription, I requested the missing issues or an extension. If they're going to be idiots and cancel my subscription, could they tell me if I'm being reimbursed? I had to respond again, and now I'm going to contact my credit card company and see if they can do anything for me.

NEVER AGAIN will I subscribe to any magazine handled by BuySub. I have wasted a huge amount of time trying to correct the mistakes that THEY made. They took my money right away and didn't deliver. Totally shabby.

Popular Mechanics is a Jack-of-All-Trades Magazine. I have been an avid reader since high school picking up every other issue or so at local newsstands. I only recently finally got smart and picked up a subscription. For the price you can't go wrong. PM is filled with informative articles on everything ranging from new technology, world events, woodworking tips, car care, automotive design, and computers. PM does not delve to deep into any particular subject, rather it gives you a broad view of all of them.

In each issue your likely to find tips on how to change and fix a flat tire on your car, plans on how to build wood furniture, reviews on new cars, and reports on upcoming technology. The articles are always interesting and provide enough information to let you do a little more digging if the subject matter sparks your interest. Jay Leno even writes an automotive section that is always enjoyable to read.

The product reviews are informative and have helped me with numerous purchases ranging from new cars, snow blowers, power tools, dirt bikes and the like. I would recommend this magazine to anyone interested in any of the mentioned subjects but can't afford 40 different subscriptions to cover them all.

Buy Popular Mechanics (1-year auto-renewal) Now

For me, this magazine has it all: technology, automotive, aviation, boats, home repair, and much more. It gives a great overview of what is happening in many industries and hobbies. I have generally read the entire issue two days after I have received it, and I don't have a lot of free time for reading.

One of the best aspects of this magazine is that is does not take itself too seriously. It does a great job creating articles that are informative and detailed, but leaves room for fun and offbeat topics too.

Last year Popular Mechanics readers got to follow a PM sponsored NASCAR car. This year they have switched to a top fuel dragster. These articles give you a good behind the sense look at what it takes to race these impressive vehicles.

If racing is not your style, checkout the woodworking section where a myriad of woodworking projects are presented. Don't forget their annual woodworkers special with a whole host of plans in a single issue.

Got a leaky water heater? Check the home repair section. Car on the fritz? Check the auto repair section. Wondering what is new in the military? Watch for the frequent special articles on the Special Forces and their hardware. This magazine has a great deal to offer!

For an all around look at technology and all things mechanical, you can't beat Popular Mechanics!

11 weeks have gone by and I have yet to recieve an issue. What burns me up is that I have recieved a RE-SUBSCRIBE letter in the mail from the publisher promising to make sure I dont miss an issue if I pay up for ANOTHER year.

WELL... I havn't gotten my FIRST issue yet.

Subscription fulfillment on this is very poor. I ordered in July and still haven't received the 1st issue as of the end of October. I called Hearst in September and they told me I should receive the 1st issue in October. In October, they tell me the 1st issue is coming in Decmber and blame Amazon for submitting with a December start date (back in July? and with evidence to the contrary). Either way, can't recommend ordering through Amazon or from this publisher.

Transworld Snowboarding (1-year auto-renewal)

Transworld SnowboardingParents beware of age appropriateness! I purchased a subscription to this magazine for my teenage son as a Christmas present. I'm so glad I previewed it first. I realize that snowboarders have colorful language and a certain culture (I used to be a skateboarder as a kid). However, I would caution parents that this magaine contains some sexually explicit advertisements for snowboard equipment and the interviews and some of the columns contain foul language and explicit references. Everything but the "f" word is in full print and even that you don't have to imagine because only part of it is "x'd" out. Yes, my son is old and wise enough to know the connotations and the language. No one's kid is a saint but that verbage and some of that content isn't acceptable in my household. I actually yanked one of the two page advertisements that was very visually sexual and containted the language to go with it as well (and a website). I have a younger daughter that I didn't want to even see this magazine! Otherwise the magazine is cool and would appeal to all level's of snowboarders. It does contain a lot of advertisement though. I enjoyed the travel articles and seeing the snow from a snowboarder's perspective (except for the trashiness part). It was also nice to read interviews with professional snowboarders who didn't have to trash talk to explain their views. So if you are a parent, I caution you that this is material you will want to check out before giving it to your kid. I almost pulled the subscription but made an agreement that I will preview the magazine and edit as necessary before it enters the house and it cannot be left out around younger kids. I'm interested to see if further editions are like my first eye-opener. We'll see if we continue with it. I'm sure there are people out there that will trash me for my viewpoints on profanity but this time I had to take a stand. You are free to check it out and make your own opinions!

I really like Transworld. They always have great articles, and when I read it, it always gets me pumped up for snowboarding!

Woodenboat

WoodenboatI have read this magazine since issue 3, which I bought at the Port Townsend Wooden Boad Festival (a long time ago). If you have any interest in watercraft history, craftsmanship, design, comment, or even armchair cruising, this magazine is for you. There is an emphasis on sail and human powered watercraft, but enough historic and nostalgic powerboating to satisfy this reader. If you subscribe, keep your back issues a year from now (or five) you'll go back to read an article you skimmed over the first time. Highly recommended for the non-cutting-edge boater.

It is true that this magazine isn't written for women. It is written for ALL who are interested in the technicalities, art and beauty of wooden boat building and restoration. If you want a magazine that is targeted specifically for women, it is true that you are looking in the wrong place. I personally happen to truly enjoy this magazine. This is regardless of the fact that I am through and through a woman!

This publication offers everything the reader would expect. The cover says it is "the magazine for wooden boat owners, builders, and designers". The content matches the promise.

Buy Woodenboat Now

A friend of mine at the Stoney Creek Wooden Boat Shop in Rochester, Michigan has been a faithful reader of this publication for some time now. I recently discovered it myself and find it to be very informative and insightful. It covers a broad range of topics from restoration, craftsmanship, history and more. My friend at the Stoney Creek Wooden Boat Shop is very particular about his craftsmanship and service on all of his boat building and restoration projects. Knowing he trusts this publication and recommends it himself puts the magazine in high place in my mind. Anyone who is serious about the art of wooden water craft or building wooden boats in general should get this magazine.

Wooden Boat magazine was gift for my son in recovery from schizophrenia. He loves boats and wants to build his own some day.

He doesn't live at home so he loves getting stuff in the mail and he asked specifically for Wooden Boat. He likes it because it helps him with his own efforts on designing boats.

Want Woodenboat Discount?

While you like me will probably never own a wooden boat or even think about buying one the magazine has some beautiful pictures of the craft and even though I am not a boat owner or user the articles interest me particularly about construction. It is not a magazine you look forward to receiving but once you receive it you do enjoy it. Remember how many issue you receive in a years subscription when you evaluate the cost.

Dumbo Feather

Dumbo FeatherDumbo feather, pass it on, is the perfect companion for anyone wishing to live life to its fullest. As someone who has recently started my own business I find the stories in Dumbo feather inspiration for my journey. They are open and honest accounts of people living and fulfilling life dreams, and I find myself constantly 'requoting' words from the magazine. The magazine itself is beautiful both in quality and design. And I love the links between the feature stories, sub stories and advertising it all flows so well. This magazine is really like no other on the current racks, there is no gossip or hiding of truths, it is a real magazine for real people! And the best thing, it doesn't date!! The stories have longevity. I've placed it on my shelves with other reference books, knowing I will go back to it time and time again when I need some inspiration.

Dumbo Feather is filled with inspiring people who have achieved extraordinary things. Its format is unique and it is a refreshing change in the market place. Its the kind of magazine that you can refer to over and over again as stories of real people evoke dreams, passions and ignite our creativity. I would highly recommend it!
