Slam (1-year auto-renewal)

Slamslam magazine is nice. However do not buy on here. took a month to get the first article(understandable). the article was previewing the NCAA final four after the tournament was over. Well then i never got the issues in between and after getting 2 more issues they have stopped shipping them to me. WTF?

I never received this order. I received an email stating they were cancelling it and I will receive a refund for the gift certificate, but never received it

I ignored other reviews and went ahead and ordered this subscription for my husband. Over a year later, we still haven't received one magazine. I should have raised the issue but just never did....SLAM magazine is pretty good, but don't purchase it this way, find another means.

Cosmopolitan - German Edition

Cosmopolitan - German EditionThis magazine is similar to the US edition in that it has similar sections and categories, but is just made for Germany. It's great for the cosmopolitan women who enjoy reading articles about fashion, careers, love, and beauty among other topics.

Entrepreneur

EntrepreneurWell over half the magazine is advertisements, very few articles from which i've learned nothing at all. I would recommend taking a look at their website (entrepreneur.com) instead of subscribing to their magazine. Their website contains better articles that can be more helpful than those found in the magazine.

It's funny because I didn't realize how useless this magazine is for me until i read some of the other reviews here. I'm about half-way through an already paid for 2-year subscription to this magazine. I always make sure to keep my copy of each issue because somehow it feels like it holds some important information that will propel me forward as an entrepreneur. I have their website listed in my Favorites. Cause I'm a big time businessman who gets a magazine called "Entrepreneur" for entrepreneurs like myself. Yeah right! The truth of the matter is the magazines are perfectly stacked and in mint condition because as soon as I've flipped through it once, subconsciously I realize there's nothing of value there. A lot of ads with get-rich quick schemes. A list of 500 franchises. Blah blah blah.

Business 2.0, Wired, Inc., Fast Company, Investor's Business Daily, The Wall Street Journal. These are the business magazines and newspapers that give today's entrpreneur a thorough guide to "the jungle".

Entrepreneur? Just a fancy-sounding title. And soon to be a stack in the recycle bin.

And as far as motivation goes, I get more by flipping through an issue of Robb Report than I have ever gotten by reading any one article in Entrepreneur.

I have read this magazine on and off for a several years and wanted to add my 2 cents. Yes, the magazine does have many ads for business opportunities. But this is exactly something I want to read and evaluate, the marketplace of business opportunities. Many of these are franchise opportunities, which is exactly where the first time entrepreneur should start. The articles are generally well written and many will obviously be useful, but not all. The value of each article often depends on where you are in the business creation process. It was not until I read the E-Myth Revisited that I understood the value of these franchises. This magazine slices and dices the franchises by many metrics to help you find one where you are most likely to both succeed and be happy. The magazine is easily worth more than the price to any person seriously starting or building a small enterprise. Hope this has been helpful to the entrepreneurs out there.

This magazine is great just for keeping the spirit. It's filled with many success stories. But hardly any of those success stories include the details that led them into success. It's also extremely geared towards franchising. Every other article, and every other ad is about franchising. I have a one year subscription and at this point I'm bored. I'll keep the subscription, but it's highly unlikely that I will renew next year.

*** Though one should check out their web site at entrepreneur.com. You will find that it is the total opposite of the magazine, and will prove to be a great wealth of information.

My biz partner and I were excited to receive our first mag from this group. We were sorely disappointed. Most of the articles are not new information, but "rehashed" info widely available. We read it cover to cover for about 4 months, then cancelled the subscription. There are better sources out there and this is not one of them!!

Shutterbug (1-year auto-renewal)

Shutterbug(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM)In many respects, Shutterbug is the mirror image of Popular Photography & Imaging. The strength of Popular Photography is its quantitative product reviews. Shutterbug does little if any measuring when they review a product. Further, I have never once seen a review in Shutterbug that was anything less than gushing. The writer will go on and on about the strength of the product and never compare it critically to other similar products on the market. I realize that magazines are reluctant to offend potential advertisers but some shred of integrity toward readers would be greatly appreciated.

The relative strength of Shutterbug is reflected in more general articles regarding photographic technique. This is the area that Popular Photography badly stumbles and this magazine definitely manages to perform at a higher level of competence. Unfortunately, these articles are still pretty basic and repetitive. Any decent entry level book on photography would contain 99% of the advice you'll ever find in Shutterbug. So while the articles are better than the reviews, it's hard to say that they alone make it worth the price of a subscription. In the final analysis, I can't recommend Shutterbug to eithe beginners or advanced photographers.

UPDATE: Shortly after posting this review, I flipped through an issue of Shutterbug at a local store. It looks like there has been a change in editorial policy as a product review took the tone of a true critique rather than being a puff piece as they so often did in the past. There still wasn't quite as much meat as I would have liked but this is definitely a step in the right direction for the magazine. Amazon does not allow reviewers to alter the number of starts given once a review is published or I would probably bump Shutterbug up a notch to 3 stars. It still is far from great, but I appreciate the fact that they've improved a bit.

If you see Shutterbug on a news stand you might think it is a typical photo mag for amateurs. The usual heavy emphasis on product reviews and how to articles. In fact the content is very much biased towards professionals. Lots of stuff beyond the interests and capabilities of the average non-pro photographer. e.g. If you want to submit stuff for their challenges they want prints.

However there is a lot of good in it for the rest of us. It is certainly educational.

For my money the best part is in the recommendations of web sites of top class photographers. A real source of inspiration.

I recieved my first issue of Shutterbug after about 7 weeks from ordering it. I was disappointed in the mag. as almost all of it is ads, ads and more ads. As far as I'm concerned it should be given away for all the advertising they recieve in it. The articles they had in this issue were about very high end equipment that 99% of the readers would not be able to afford or use. Most of the ads do not even contain prices for the products, making them useless for shopping and comparing anyway. I did like the low price that amazon had for Shutterbug though, I would have really been mad if I had paid cover prices for it.

I have been subscribing to Shutterbug for a year and received my last issue recently. I will not be renewing it for a few reasons. I guess the main reason for my non-renewal is that this magazine is heavy into product reviews. My goal in reading a photography magazine is to get helpful tips with the equipment I already have. I am not interested in page after page after page of the latest/greatest equipment that I won't be buying for awhile if at all.

The second reason for not renewing my subscription is there are WAY too many ads in this magazine. I got tired of flipping past two pages, five pages, ten pages of advertising to find the next article. Much of this magazine reads like a yellow pages for camera shops.

Finally, I found that most of the articles simply did not apply to my enthusiasm for photography. For me, the articles were too tech-focussed. As mentioned earlier, I really was looking for articles on helpful tips and such.

I just started a subscription to PC Photo so we'll see how that goes.

This is a very basic photography magazine that is best read quickly in the store and put back into the rack.

The camera and lens reviews on the internet are superior and the magazine is bogged down with a ton of advertisements.

Conclusion: save your money.

Fortune (1-year auto-renewal)

FortuneI would say the quality of coverage is pretty poor. The articles are recycled from those which have already appeared on the web at . Quite a large volume of the magazine is devoted to the advertisements, so much so, it feels as though articles are inundated with adverts. I would say that the articles are mediocre compared to magazines like BusinessWeek and The Economist.

I am not renewing my subscription.

Fortune magazine appears to be encountering a crisis in identity and focus. Between all the business magazines Fortune does not stand out from the crowd as a quality publication. Depending on your needs, I would recommend other magazines that are more attuned to the needs of business leaders.

Forbes: Conservative viewpoint

Business week: Quick summary of the weeks events

Economist: Excellent reporting, more neutral point of view

Buy Fortune (1-year auto-renewal) Now

I've tried all the business and investing magazines out there, and this is by far the best one. Money is full of fluff, Business Week's coverage is too trivial and sensational. Fortune hits the mark with deep relevant topics.

The articles aren't quite as good as they were several years ago, but that doesn't stop it from being better than the rest.

I am an avid reader. But due to time constraints, over time I have pruned my subscriptions down to Fortune, The Economist, Kiplinger and The Atlanticall great magazines. Fortune is probably the only one I pretty much read cover to cover. I find the articles to be well researched and well written. When you think about all the work that went into putting together an issue, you have admit it is an amazing value.

Great Magazine that covers the main points of the top 500 companies. This is a great magazine if your looking to keep up to date on the larger movement of the economy. This magazine comes at a great value and the stories they produce show usually the general movement of the market. Well worth read if applied right for beginning investor. I enjoy the special interest articles on CEOs making a difference and I think could be written about more often.

Art of the West

Art of the WestContrary to what passes for art these days Art of the West showcases painting that has heart and soul. An absolutely beautiful magazine. I look forward to my quartet of magazines , Western Art Collector, American Collector, Southwest Art and Art of the West. Art of the West [published bi-monthly] and the others provide a welcome respite from the mediocrity that assaults our senses and insults our intelligence. The magazine also showcases sculpture and while I prefer the painters I admire the quality and vision of the sculptors that are featured. A subscription to Art of the West is money well spent . Be warned that if you keep re-subscribing you will have to make room because you will not want to throw out an issue. The publisher ships the magazine in a plastic bag. I know that this may not be what the ecocrowd likes but at least you stand a chance that your copy will arrive in one piece. It seems that the Post Office in its desire to speed up the mail delivery is ripping and destroying magazines. Almost every copy of American Artist, [not bagged], that I receive is damaged. Besides the poly wrap is recyclable.Oh yes each January you receive a special extra ,Art of the West Guidebook of Western Artists ,for the year past. The guidebook has a brief biography of the artist with a sample of the artists work. They also showcase works of art that the publisher selects from the year ended in full spread. A wonderful bonus !

This publication is high quality. I am happy with this product and the transaction.

This is the only magazine I care about. I wait for the next edition to come. I usually only read books but I love the art and the different types of art that are featured in this magazine. I live in the west and that has something to do with my choices in art, but this magazine gives me inspiration.

Mizz

MizzI love this magazine! It really keeps you updated on what's hot and what's going on. I think that it is aimed for slightly older girls like preeteens, but it really teaches you some valuble life lessons. In every issue, they give you little gifts to show they care. Mizz gives you tips on fashion, boys, games, and much more! The only thing I don't like about it are all the tiny pieces of junk at the back of each issue, in small print. I think they are Advertisments and privacy policies. You can really trust Mizz, because they are honest and share life experiences. Mizz cares. I have never read a better magazine, apart from American Girl. It is really cool!
