Model Boats

Model BoatsI'm into RC boats-I like serious scale models, fun scale models, Springer tugs, and sailboats. Wind, electric, or steam power is what I want. I have no interest in nitro powered race boats.

I find that this is the best model boating magazine out there-it fits my interests most closely. (Marine Modelling International is a close second, though.)

I also like that they include several free plans over the course of a year, by great designers like Glynn Guest.

Plastics News

Plastics NewsReview: Plastics News Magazine

I think without any doubt the magazine "Plastic News" is one of the best and most informative magazine for people involved within the plastic industry.

As a service technician I appreciate the news that is printed in the magazine. You can read about the almost everything related to the plastic industry and in my opinion everyone working in or for the plastic industry needs to have the "PlasticsNews."

You can read about novelties in the Plastic field, new products companies are producing, new machines for injection molding or blow molding and also new techniques in this field. As a Bekum service technician I always appreciate the News in that magazine. You are just updated in the plastic industry with all the new developments in this field. It is sometimes difficult to read lots of different magazines but the PlasticsNews gives you all you have to know.

It doesn't matter if you are a CEO or production manager, or in administration you will always be informed about the latest news in the plastic industry. I my opinion there is no better magazine for the plastic industry than the PLASTICSNEWS. This magazine gives me always a lot of news about what is going on in the plastic industry and the constant changes within this industry.

It is the best investment you can make to stay on the top in that industry. The money you invest is worth it and the time to read also.

Girls' Life Magazine (1-year auto-renewal)

Girls' Life MagazineI have been getting this magazine for 3 years and with every issue it has gotten better. It is the best magizine for girls 8-20. There are embarrasing moments, help pages, books, website, and movie reviews, upcomeing books and movies. My favorite section is the beauty section. There is also a letter from Karen(an employee) in every issue. Also there are stories from girls, topics about how girls feel about things like cursing. Also another one of my favorite parts of this magizine is how they have at least 5 contests in an issue. There are writing contests and raffles. They are good prizes also like a camera, leather jaket, a grease program signed by the cast and soooooooooooo much more. I definatly recomend this to any girl! it is the BEST!!!!!!!!

I really enjoy this magazine I have been subscribing to it for 2 years now. It has great advice on boys, clothing, beauty, puberty, and much more. I know almost any girl my age would love it.I thoroughly disagree with the reader who said this magazine was inapropriate it is not AT ALL! The clothes are MUCH less skimpy than in magazines like Teen People and Cosmo Girl. My mom looks at every single magazine that I get to see if it is appropriate or not, and GL is one of only 2 magazines that she has approved. This magazine approves of high self-esteem and being who you are and only who you are and not anyone else. I love it and would recomend it to any girl my age (13)!

I got this magazine for my daughter when she was ten because it said for girls 10 to 15 yrs old. I found out that the articles are for older girls dealing with issues like dating and boyfriends. Also it goes into alot of detail on wearing makeup and older fashion. It is sad when there is not a magazine out there for girls who are to old for American Girl but not old enough for the next level.

This is a fun magazine for tweens and young teenage girls. I'm in my twenties and I was flipping through this magazine and I must say that its a nice alternative to magazines like Seventeen and Ym. I'm so glad that there's a positive magazine for teen girls.

The sections are:

short stuff-which is news and interesting facts

dear carol-advice columnist

friends-how to deal with your friends

fashion blast-of course these are clothes that they advertise

some are cute while others are too inappropriate from my view.

beauty-they advertise certain beauty products

body Q & A-they answer questions about girls bodies

guys-girls ask advice from guys, to get the guy's perspective on a certain issue.

life-another section that deals with life issues like parents that are fighting or dealing with friends.

they have sections devoted to movies, music, interviews with celebrities like Mandy Moore, they recommend books that teen girls might like, some articles deal with how to act with guys.

There are many other articles on interviewing teen girls that have their own businesses, the issue that I got...June/July 2003, tells how to make money, a section dedicated to getting healthy, and 29 awesome things to do this summer.

They also have a pen pal section for those girls that want to have pen pals, and of course no teen magazine would be complete without a fashion spread.

I thought that it was an overall positive magazine for teen girls and I highly recommend it. I don't think that its too girly girly and its articles have more depth than magazines like YM. They focus on other things besides beauty and entertainment.

Most of the articles are applicable to me and aren't about a girl with anorexia or who had a baby but with articles that EVERY girl can relate to!!!=)

New York Review Of Books

New York Review Of BooksA playground for the mind. Covers a wide range of subjects. Each review is a full essay on the subject of the book. Many reviews compare and contrast several recently published books on the same subject. Learned and sophisticated yet fully accessible. An on-going liberal arts education and the easiest way I know to keep the eclectic learning that a liberal arts education aspires to.

New York Review of Books is the best publication in the United States for serious readers. But as any of us who have them stacked up for years know they we need to get it on Kindle. What's the delay?

Buy New York Review Of Books Now

Sometimes I read all the reviews in the NYRB, even reviews of things I'd probably never buy, or art exhibitions I wouldn't go to. They are so well written that I learn a lot. I have some favorite writers who show up there a lot, such as Garry Wills.

In magazines like Time the reviews are so consumer-oriented that you really wouldn't bother with them unless you were actually considering buying the book or recording that they're talking about. But in the NYRB, they really talk about interesting stuff. There are also a lot of essays that aren't reviews, exactly, but just reflect on the state of the world. The New Yorker used to have long essays like that, but since Tina Brown started running it, they don't do that any more. (Basically, with the New Yorker you used to get free "books", because some of those essays were as long as short books. Now you don't. There are still longish essays like that in the NYRB, sometimes published in parts.)

There is also something aesthetically pleasing about the size and layout of the magazine. It's tabloid-sized on newsprint (but not newsprint that yellows with time) and is very readable. No glossy trash.

I checked my last issue and the new-subscriber price listed there is $64/year. So Amazon's price is OK. If you get an issue on the newsstand for $4.50 and then subscribe, you'll pay $68.50.

NYRB is among my favorite subscriptions (I used to love the Atlantic Monthly; but, it has been rather disappointing over the last several years since they dumbed it down); In terms of sheer intellectual depth and range, it is very tough to beat the NYRB. While I do not read the NYRB cover to cover (and you do get articles that are sub-par), I end up spending at least 5 hrs on each issue.

I receive the print edition as well as access the content online. While I love the convenience of online access, I look forward to the print edition every month simply to browse though all the books that are advertised by various publishers. Over the last several years, I have found many great books through this avenue (and the some through Amazon's recommendations)! I hope NYRB introduces personalized recommendations (only from the traditional inventory of books it advertises in the print edition) in recommending additional books online both old and new.

The main strength of this magazine is the fact that a typical review article is written by an expert with deep knowledge of the subject (some times opinionated; but always intelligent and engaging). While the article draws on more than a single book, I like the fact that the article is typically written as a commentary around a theme and is more than a summary of the books under review.

THE NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS is published 20 times a year, biweekly except in January, July, August and September. It is a respected publication which is devoted mostly to reviews of current books and an occasional movie. It also contains articles of social or political interest. The Letters section is usually brief with little waste.

Contributors to a recent edition included Mark Danner, Sister Helen Prejean and Daniel Mendelsohn. Reviews covered such diverse items as a collection of short stories by Graham Greene and two books about the actress Anna May Wong in addition to ALEXANDER, a film directed by Oliver Stone.

THE NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS consistently offers provocative writing in a highly readable style. It definitely deserves its reputation for excellence.

Sand Sports

Sand SportsThis magazine fills the void for all of us sand lovers! Lots of detailed articles, the ads are products that matter to the sand sport world, its just a great magazine overall for sand sport enthusiasts.

I had ordered this as a gift to someone at another address and that worked out perfectly. However, when renewal time came I agreed to renew and all of a sudden the magazine is being delivered to my house. I unfortunately can't figure out how to fix this. So, be cautious when doing a renewal thru amazon.

Art of the West

Art of the WestContrary to what passes for art these days Art of the West showcases painting that has heart and soul. An absolutely beautiful magazine. I look forward to my quartet of magazines , Western Art Collector, American Collector, Southwest Art and Art of the West. Art of the West [published bi-monthly] and the others provide a welcome respite from the mediocrity that assaults our senses and insults our intelligence. The magazine also showcases sculpture and while I prefer the painters I admire the quality and vision of the sculptors that are featured. A subscription to Art of the West is money well spent . Be warned that if you keep re-subscribing you will have to make room because you will not want to throw out an issue. The publisher ships the magazine in a plastic bag. I know that this may not be what the ecocrowd likes but at least you stand a chance that your copy will arrive in one piece. It seems that the Post Office in its desire to speed up the mail delivery is ripping and destroying magazines. Almost every copy of American Artist, [not bagged], that I receive is damaged. Besides the poly wrap is recyclable.Oh yes each January you receive a special extra ,Art of the West Guidebook of Western Artists ,for the year past. The guidebook has a brief biography of the artist with a sample of the artists work. They also showcase works of art that the publisher selects from the year ended in full spread. A wonderful bonus !

This publication is high quality. I am happy with this product and the transaction.

I live in the west and that has something to do with my choices in art, but this magazine gives me inspiration.

BBC Top Gear - England

BBC Top Gear - EnglandThis is the ultimate magazine to have if you're a fan of BBC Top Gear on BBC2 Sundays.

Since the magazine deals almost exculsively with UK market vehicles, it's not of use to a subscriber outside of that area except for entertainment...and if you know the show...you know what to expect.

However the subscription price is rubbish. You can purchase a copy (albiet about 2 weeks late) each month from your local book store that covers world periodicals for the cover price of $9.25, nearly $5 less than a subscription per issue.

Yes it is expensive, but it must be known that 1 page of Top Gear is more interesting than a whole issue of Car and Driver. Subscribing means paying more ($10.95 listed at bookstands) and getting each issue 2-3 weeks later. I used to subscribe, but I get them at Borders now.

Buy BBC Top Gear - England Now

For those who love cars and would like to see how the other half lives, this is a great magazine. Highly focused on it's native British market, it makes for interesting and often amusing reading. If we had half the cars currently available in Europe/Great Britain, the big 3 would be gone.

However, a subscription price of nearly $15 per issue is flatly absurd. You can reliably pick this up each month at large book stores. It simply isn't worth that price.

Read Best Reviews of BBC Top Gear - England Here

If you're interested in cars and can handle sarcasm and well founded criticism, give this magazine a try. Well illustrated and beautifully printed this really is the ultimate European car magazine. Main focus is on cars available on the UK market. Not to worry, the ones not available there aren't worth driving anyway.

Want BBC Top Gear - England Discount?

Great photography, informative articles in the Top Gear Style, a coffee table quality publication that is done quite well. "Top Gear Subcriber's Edition" covers all classes of automobiles from Alfa Romeo to Volvo. It is definitely a British publication right down to car prices being listed in Pounds. It does not cater to the US manufacturers even to the point of a well justified bias towards EU automobiles. So, if this might bother you then get in your pick-up, drive to the store, and by any other car magazine. Careful not to hit your head on your bumper going out to your truck. I highly recommend Top Gear Magazine for those that want who want accurate detailed information from a drivers prospective.

Time Out New York

Time Out New YorkGreat publication for all things NYC. Considering how the price at the newstand in around $4 per copy, the price for the yearly subscription is a steal. Well worth every penny, even if you only use occasionally

Art Jewelry

Art JewelryI love this magazine and so will you if you want step-by-step instructions using modern methods of making Jewelry. There are always pictures of items in the gallery as well as how-to articles, and the best thing is that many of the articles utilize Metal Clay. If you haven't heard about metal clay, buy a least one issue of this magazine to see how it works. The format of the magazine is very good--pages lie flat for consulting while you try out one of he designs, for one thing. There is always a list of tools and materials needed, and pictures of the process from beginning to completion. Check it out.

I've subscribed to this magazine for over a year now and I love it. This is a great magazine for jewelry artists. Each issue is filled with lots of great ideas and projects. They really do a good job of covering all aspects of jewelry making, things like metalsmithing, wire work, PMC, etc. I always learn something new with each issue. Very inspiring.

This is, indeed, a wonderful magazine. I have bought it off the news stand a number of times. I am about to subscribe to it but I see that I can actually get 6 issues for 26.95, which is a better deal than amazon.

I subscribed to this magazine for digital download and paid for over 6 months. The problem is that when you cancel the subscription, you lose access to past issues too. That was not made clear in the terms and I will never do another subscription. It was so convenient being able to take my Kindle into my craft room.

Ifr - Instrument Flight Rating

Ifr - Instrument Flight RatingIFR is one of several Belvoir aviation publications (Aviation Consumer, IFR pilot, light plane maintenance...) and retains their fine blend of humor and practicality. The assumption is the reader either has an IFR rating or is well-on her way.

Each issue has a general theme, often related to the season. For example, a recent issue explored zero-zero (no visibility, ceiling) takeoffs, as would be observed if a field were socked in with a 50' thick layer at ground-level. It's perfectly legal for part 91 (general aviation) flying, but often neglected as an option. Included in the article are legal considerations and ways of mitigating risk.

The monthly columns are also fun. Two of my favorites:

IFR quiz -related to the primary topic of that issue, the quiz involves a combination of interpreting ATC regulations, navigation, chart symbiology and the realities of IFR flying. These are invaluable because you learn about the *intent* behind the presentation.

On the Air -the aviator's equivalent of bloopers.

Great pulp. Get a better price by joining AOPA. $24 for 12 issues.

This monthly magazine has many real world tips and articles on flying IFR safely written by people who fly and know the systems, procedures and methods. I have been a sbiscriber for years and as long as I'm flying, I'll keep reading IFR.

This magazine is ford those who have (or are close to getting ) their instrument rating. It features very practical discussions about how to operate in the system. It is easy to find books that explain the rules or AIM but this goes behind the scenes to explain how controllers look at situations and how they can (and sometimes can not) help. The editor is Paul Berge an ex controller and CFII who has a dry wit and is fairly quick to be critical or complimentary to ATC and the FAA as appropriate. He does a great job of explaining how "the other side" thinks and how to get the most out of the system.
