slam magazine is nice. However do not buy on here. took a month to get the first article(understandable). the article was previewing the NCAA final four after the tournament was over. Well then i never got the issues in between and after getting 2 more issues they have stopped shipping them to me. WTF?

I never received this order. I received an email stating they were cancelling it and I will receive a refund for the gift certificate, but never received it

I ignored other reviews and went ahead and ordered this subscription for my husband. Over a year later, we still haven't received one magazine. I should have raised the issue but just never did....SLAM magazine is pretty good, but don't purchase it this way, find another means.

TV Guide (1-year auto-renewal)

TV Guide used to have complete 24-hour-a-day listings, plus terrific articles about TV actors, trends, etc. Then they remodeled it completely, and now they just aren't about listings, and their articles aren't as good. Sure I can surf the channels on cable, but my provider doesn't list shows more than a few hours in advance, and surfing the web for schedule info is a big drag. I stopped reading TV Guide when they stopped doing complete listings and having great articles, even though it still arrived every week for months. I'd LOVE to go back to it. It used to be something you could pick up really cheaply at the supermarket, for fifteen cents. But I wouldn't mind paying if I was getting a real TV GUIDE.

Though it was a full T.V. guide, not Prime Time only. What if you want to know whats on at one in the afternoon or six P.M.? Could not care less what the stars are doing. Just want know whats on T.V. ALL the time.

I would never have bought this if I had seen it ahead of time.

It only shows listings for 3 hrs (in evening), yet it has page

after page of other material I'm not interested in.

It also seem hard to read the listings.

I am not happy with the tv guide. There are no daytime entries......the time the programs are listed are from 8 pm.........the station channel #'s are not listed anywhere example CBS channel 2...... I have to use my daily newspaper to see what and when to see any programs.....I also refer to my tv channel selections which show only the next 3 hours or so. If I could get my money refunded, I would be very happy, because I find the tv guide useless.

Crappie World (1-year auto-renewal)

I very seldom received an issue of the magazine. I renewed my subscription against my better jusgment and received a total of one (1) magazine during an eight month period yet received another renewal form. They did send me a check for issues I never received. It is a very good magazine, but it is much easier and less frustrating to buy directly off the newsstand. Wal-Mart carries the magazine, so I can obtain the magazine on a regular basis.

I subscribed to this magazine last year for Father's Day for my husband, and we've only received 1 magazine!

Like the previous poster said, good luck on finding a phone number!

My husband does like the magazine however.

Let Natcom get your address and you'll need a bigger mailbox. Every few weeks they send you a notice telling you that you need to renew your subscription. If you get any of their other pubs, and have been getting them for a while, you'll need a tracking system to know when you REALLY need to renew. Their magazines are just o.k. so I won't be renewing because I'm sick of their harassment. Oh, don't expect to find a phone # for customer service either. Check out the In-fisherman pubs and their "Crappie Wisdom", "Bass Wisdom", etc for a thorough and professional presentation of useful info and illustrations. Happy Hookin'!

This is a great crappie magazine. It does come sporatically. One month we received 3 magazines and haven't recieved one now for 3 months. If you don't mind the inconsistancy the magazine is great.

I subscribed to Crappie World for four years. The previous post is correct. They will send you a subscription renewal notice about every three months...even when you just renewed! They promise all kinds of free stuff for renewing. I haven't received anything yet. Deceptive trade practices at best. And yes, your mailbox will runeth over with junk mail. I'd love to subscribe again but I'm not willing to do business with that kind of folks.

There is a lot of good info in the publication. However, they often try to test the bounds of extreme fishing techniques (and practicality) as some of the articles are off the wall. Tim Huffman's parts are always good down-to-earth advise that can actually work. Wish he'd hook up with a more reputable publication.

I have to say, I LOVE Palm Springs, I have no idea why, when I first got off the plane I fell in love, that was YEARS ago...I visit as often as I can, but when I can't, Palm Springs Life gives me a little of that perfect place in the comfort of my home in Oregon, the current events, the little update, the calendar of events that keeps me updated on what's going on, I love it. It's a great way to enjoy what I'm always not able to. More times that not this mag has also provided many ideas of places to visit when I go back, which has been fun. AND, as I HUGE bonus, the price on Amazon is the best price around.

This magazine is all about the ads. There is virtually no journalistic aspect to the magazine. And if there is, it's tainted. For example, the auto reviewer reviews the latest Mercedes-Benz and lo and behold, there's a big ole Mercedes ad on the page. You bet you're getting an impartial review!

The ads are pretty, though.

The second half of the magazine stays pretty much the same issue after issue. There are listings of golf courses, restaurants and things to do. It's a great magazine to buy once before your trip to Palm Springs. It's really not worth a 12-month subscription.

And the last page of each issue is wasted every month by some horoscope that is just terrible. What a waste of ink!

I have been subscribed to AW&ST for almost two full years, and have to say the magazine is great. The content is both varied and informative, and the whole world is covered fairly well. I am currently trying to figure out how I am going to scrounge up the money to renew my subscription for another year.

The only real complaint that I have had with the magazine is the poor editing. I don't expect a perfect magazine, but the frequency of simple spelling mistakes and occasional grammatical errors is astounding.

Bought this for my husband, an avid fly fisherman. It's a great magazine with interesting, relevant, and informative articles. It has articles about locations throughout the US and does not merely focus on the most expensive or exotic locations. Not too many ads. Good customer service so far. Highly recommended.

This is a nice magazine with skills and great photos. Nice for beginners or experienced. Good product reviews. and travel ideas.

Weekly Standard

I've been a subscriber to this magazine for close to a decade now, and it's one that I'm loathe to be without. The articles are short, pithy, and are just about always written in a single block no "continued on p. 34."

I don't always agree with every article or opinion, and I know the magazine has the reputation of being a neo-conservative publication, but for keeping up with current events from the point of view of conservatives (and often Christians)it beats the rest.

My favorite features are "The Scrapbook" and Casual both usually very funny. I also enjoy the "Books & Arts" section it makes holding onto each issue worthwhile, as the reviews are so good that they're usually re-readable.

A subscription to this magazine is a treat!

Along with National Review, the Weekly Standard is one of the most popular and influential conservative magazines out there. While it tends to promote the same issues of NR (and even uses many of the same writers), the Weekly Standard tends to be the more partisan of the two. While NR often takes the more intellectual approach to the modern day issues, the Weekly Standard has always tended to go more for the gut. Both magazines, however, do an outstanding job promoting and defending conservative positions and, as a bonus, both can be wickedly funny. I especially enjoy the Weekly Standard's Scrapbook, a regular column where some of the more bizarre and inane actions of the left are given proper exposure. As well, the Weekly Standard's book and movie reviews are, at times, superior even to National Review's. As a magazine, the Weekly Standard is a must for conservatives and will probably be enjoyed by moderates (and perhaps even open-minded liberals) with a sense of humor. As for those you who are still bemoaning the results of the Florida recount and wishing Clinton could have had a third term -well, I think Mother Jones is still looking for subscribers...

The Weekly Standard is not as strong as the National Review. That being said, it's tough to find much wrong with this magazine. Furthermore, as it is published about twice as often as NR, comparisons between the two are not just. As for editors, Fred Barnes is about as good as they get. He's a spotlight of cheer on Foxnews, and he is on these pages as well. Their book reviews are great and their parodies are the first thing you should turn to when you receive a copy (they're found on the last page). As for reporting, I can say without reservation that Matt Labash is the most entertaining investigative journalist in America today! I love his stuff and it's hard to resist telling your friends about all the things he observes while he's in the field. His, "Among the Puppeteers," was one of my favorites back in 2000. They have digital access for subscribers only and on Saturday mornings their site is the first thing I check for newsworthy articles.

Sorry, but I have to chime in, since actual conservatives don't seem to review this magazine. I'd hate for the Standard to become the "Conservative magazine for the thinking leftist."

This magazine is a taste of the conservative movement. It's a good way to ease into conservatism (and yes, they did comment on that whole Lewinski/purgery/obstructing justice "nonsense")

The first thing you'll notice about the Standard (and indeed most conservative publications) is how bare-bones it is. Very few full page photographs with two words ever grace it's pages. The pages contain plain text, thoughtful opinions from various authors. (The website even features Larry Miller-among the funniest comediens who doesn't need the "f" word)

Conservatives and liberals alike will find enough to disagree with in this one (though the latter will have a harder time with it). I recommend getting the National Review/Weekly Standard bundle just to balance out the McCain worship from the Standard.

The Weekly Standard clearly has a conservatinve "bent." However, it is not the sort that screams, "This is the ONLY way to think about this topic." It is thoughtful commentary, delivered with well crafted writing. I come away from reading an issue thinking that I have been well informed.
