Oregon Coast Magazine

Oregon Coast MagazineIf you live in or near Oregon, live at the coast, visit the coast, are planning a trip or just like to dream and scheme, Oregon Coast is a great magazine to subscribe to. It is informative and colorful. While not as glizty as the more generic coastal magazines like Coastal Living, it is targeted and useful.

I can't afford to go to the Oregon Coast every year so this magazine is a dream. The pictures and articles are wonderful and I feel like I'm there. I've been reading this for over 10 years and it never fails to charm me with its recipes, advice, advertisments and reccommendations.

Earth - Va

Earth - VaThis is a nice magazine for those interested in earth sciences. Like Discovery magazine, it features articles by professional geologists, interviews with earth scientists working in the field, and small news stories relavent to modern events: earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, evidence of global warming, etc, quoted from other sources. Most of the articles, like those in Discovery, are written by jounalists who have obviously researched the professional literature and distilled it for a reading public interested in the topic of what's new in science. A very interesting and informative magazine.

This magazine gives the latest news and articles on recent developments concerning the Earth sciences. The writing is aimed at the professional or the very interested amateur, but they are seldom "jargony". This is the place to go if you want to know why the earthquake in Haiti was so devastating or why the volcano in Iceland was explosive enough to disrupt European air traffic. There are usually articles on what's going on in Washington DC that affect the funding for USGS, or other science related organizations, as well as travelogues which focus on the geology of a region.

I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THIS ITEM. I AM, HOWEVER, RECEIVING A BICYCLING MAGAZINE WHICH I DID NOT ORDER. COULD THIS POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN SENT TO ME IN ERROR? I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE GEO TIMES MAGAZINE.

Astronomy Now

Astronomy NowThis is a fine magazine but I do have a couple of questions:

Why is the subscription cost $80 on Amazon while the Astronomy Now Annual Subscription is $69.00 on the publisher's website?

An $11 surcharge for the opportunity to buy from Amazon?

The magazine is terrific. With regular updates and rich photography, "Astronomy Now" is a must for all astro-enthusiasts!! It, incidentallyy is the best-selling astronomy magazine in the UK

Buy Astronomy Now Now

Nice astronomy magazine with the usual variety, maybe a little heavier on equipment and tech, which I like.

Scotland Magazine (1-year auto-renewal)

Scotland MagazineThis is a great magazine, I've bought it in bookstores like Barnes and Noble and Borders, and just started my subscription, but I did not buy it off here, as I've seen so many customers order subscriptions that they never receive. My advice to anyone wanting to subscribe, go to the nearest Borders bookstore, pick up a copy, and fill out the subscription card that is included in every issue of every magazine published. It's much faster, and more reliable than Amazon.

My wife's family is from Glasgow and last year after her trip to Scotland with our son for two weeks, I decided to give her a subscription to Scotland Magazine for Christmas. So far We've enjoyed the many articles, stories and series in Scotland Magazine. The mix of culture, history, lifestyle and Scottish destinations are very good. We also enjoy the monthly stories of famous Scots who are in the Entertainment industry.

The overall production and layout shows excellent attention to detail and presents information in a very high quality manner. When the renewal notice arrived this year I asked my wife if she enjoyed the magazine and would like renew her subscription, to which she replied a resounding, yes. I myself, a Non-Scot, have found the magazine to be a great source of reading enjoyment, so much so, that We're planning a trip to Scotland next year.

To anyone interested in visiting Scotland, I would strongly recommend a subscription to Scotland Magazine. Scotland Magazine is a keeper.

This is a beautiful magazine that I have subscribed to for years. I renewed my subscription through Amazon the last time and what a convenience that is. I don't have to worry about when my subscription is due, everything is taken care of for me.

Photo - France

Photo - FranceThis is my favorite magazine in the universe and the only one to which I have ever subscribed. However, after this, my second subscription is over, I plan to call it quits. The magazine never gets delivered unless I send several angry e-mails every month reminding them and demanding delivery. When the issues come they are often 2-3 months behind. The current issue is over three weeks late and who knows when and if I will ever see it. In the end, although this is a brilliant publication, it simply isn't worth the headache. Photo, if you're out there, please forward me the June issue.... and while you're at it get a head start on July and August and maybe they'll make it on time.

Yes there are tons of great shots in the mag; great articles ( in French only ) , contests---very chic....HOWEVER---customer service will treat you like the redheaded stepchild when you ask them " WHY HAVE YOU NOT SENT ME THE LATEST ISSUE OF PHOTO?? "....and you know it WILL HAPPEN. They only send you sporadic issues when THEY feel like it ( or so it would seem )... Most issues are available on the stand WEEKS before you get yours delivered via mail ( should it be the other way around??? ) And they wont give you a courtesy letter/postcard telling you when your subscription is up...that's for you to figure out. SO if you can deal with the lame french hold music when you call Photo's Cutomers Service CONSTANTLY, this is a great magazine..... cough...cough...vive la France!!

Buy Photo - France Now

Tough to decide how many stars to give Photo France; the magazine itself is exceptional: think of "American Photo" but more freewheeling in every way. Clearly 5/5. But my review here reflects the experience of purchasing a subscription from Amazon.

I should have read the previous reviews before subscribing; I have yet to receive a single issue of this beautiful magazine, even though the vendor claims to have mailed out at least two issues. It's hard to know who to blame: the publisher, Amazon, the distributor, or the postman.

If you're lucky enough to live near a good newsstand, save yourself the headache and just buy it in person. Spend your time enjoying the great photography instead of tracking down undelivered issues.

When an American photo magazine tests a new camera or lens, they all too often photograph some inane collection of poseable figurines on their desktop, or a boring vista of the office buildings out the editor's window. Photo-France often photographs nudes with their reviews. Strike a blow against the idiocy of 'Freedom Fries' and remember that France helped us win our Revolutionary War each time you buy an issue (at the newsstand).

I have been subscribing to the magazine for several years through EXPRESS MAG. Before I used to buy it at a Borders store. Definitely it's the best photo magazine I have ever found.

Western Horseman (1-year auto-renewal)

Western HorsemanThe BEST All Around Horse Magazine Period Also The BEST current price. If a horse owner can only have one equine related magazine this is is the ONE I would recommend. I believe they have been in business since 1938 and know what they are talking about, in an entertaining non-technical manner. Excellent photos, with horse health, some show AND trail riding information.

I can't remember when I started reading Western Horseman. My mother had a subscription back in the fifties, even though we had Arabians and half-Arabians. As the title suggests, Western Horseman is a magazine for western horsemen. Back in the fifties you wouldn't see an English saddle in the magazine. However, I read it cover-to-cover then and I read it that way now. Even during the time I couldn't own a horse, I read Western Horseman. Nowdays, they occasionally include a horse with an English or, more likely, an Australian or Endurance saddle among all those western stock seat saddles. But that is fine. Western Horseman is what it claims to be, the premier magazine for western horsemen even if they don't live in the west or ride stock seat. The magazine is full of information about western stock horse disciplines. Their articles are basic and practical. Their writers are people I have never met but whose names are as familiar to me as my next-door-neighbor. They write about horse people. I have learned about rodeo clowns, bullriders, cowboy poets and western artists as well as horses. They write about the western way of life and those people who try to preserve it even as it changes around them. So, if you buy Western Horseman, and I hope you do, don't expect to read only about horses, although you will find plenty about horses. Expect to read about western horsemen in all their variations.

Western Horseman is the premier horse magazine, with articles on all aspects of horses and horsemanship from trailers and trailering to horse packing, shoeing, disease and parasite control as well as special focus pieces on the different breeds of horse. If you like the outdoors and horses, you will love this magazine.

This magazine in particular focuses on training tips and the whos who of our beloved horse world. It has great advertisements

of recently released products, that i myself have found very useful and of good quality.Highly suggested especially if you

are a new owner of an equestrian buddy.

The Western Horseman is THE horse magazine. It started in 1936. My mother wrote an article that was published in Volume 2, Number 4 in 1937. It was about the cowboys in New Mexico along the Pecos River. The ranch was the Turkey Track. I would like to have the issue, but over the years it disappeared. We, she and I raised horses for many years in Kansas and Oklahoma until a back injury slowed me down.

Over the years the magazine has kept up with the changing styles and breeds of western horses. More power to them!!

Keep me in mind if you have the issue I mentioned, and would like to sell it to me.

Weekly Standard

Weekly StandardI've been a subscriber to this magazine for close to a decade now, and it's one that I'm loathe to be without. The articles are short, pithy, and are just about always written in a single block no "continued on p. 34."

I don't always agree with every article or opinion, and I know the magazine has the reputation of being a neo-conservative publication, but for keeping up with current events from the point of view of conservatives (and often Christians)it beats the rest.

My favorite features are "The Scrapbook" and Casual both usually very funny. I also enjoy the "Books & Arts" section it makes holding onto each issue worthwhile, as the reviews are so good that they're usually re-readable.

A subscription to this magazine is a treat!

Along with National Review, the Weekly Standard is one of the most popular and influential conservative magazines out there. While it tends to promote the same issues of NR (and even uses many of the same writers), the Weekly Standard tends to be the more partisan of the two. While NR often takes the more intellectual approach to the modern day issues, the Weekly Standard has always tended to go more for the gut. Both magazines, however, do an outstanding job promoting and defending conservative positions and, as a bonus, both can be wickedly funny. I especially enjoy the Weekly Standard's Scrapbook, a regular column where some of the more bizarre and inane actions of the left are given proper exposure. As well, the Weekly Standard's book and movie reviews are, at times, superior even to National Review's. As a magazine, the Weekly Standard is a must for conservatives and will probably be enjoyed by moderates (and perhaps even open-minded liberals) with a sense of humor. As for those you who are still bemoaning the results of the Florida recount and wishing Clinton could have had a third term -well, I think Mother Jones is still looking for subscribers...

Buy Weekly Standard Now

The Weekly Standard is not as strong as the National Review. That being said, it's tough to find much wrong with this magazine. Furthermore, as it is published about twice as often as NR, comparisons between the two are not just. As for editors, Fred Barnes is about as good as they get. He's a spotlight of cheer on Foxnews, and he is on these pages as well. Their book reviews are great and their parodies are the first thing you should turn to when you receive a copy (they're found on the last page). As for reporting, I can say without reservation that Matt Labash is the most entertaining investigative journalist in America today! I love his stuff and it's hard to resist telling your friends about all the things he observes while he's in the field. His, "Among the Puppeteers," was one of my favorites back in 2000. They have digital access for subscribers only and on Saturday mornings their site is the first thing I check for newsworthy articles.

Sorry, but I have to chime in, since actual conservatives don't seem to review this magazine. I'd hate for the Standard to become the "Conservative magazine for the thinking leftist."

This magazine is a taste of the conservative movement. It's a good way to ease into conservatism (and yes, they did comment on that whole Lewinski/purgery/obstructing justice "nonsense")

The first thing you'll notice about the Standard (and indeed most conservative publications) is how bare-bones it is. Very few full page photographs with two words ever grace it's pages. The pages contain plain text, thoughtful opinions from various authors. (The website even features Larry Miller-among the funniest comediens who doesn't need the "f" word)

Conservatives and liberals alike will find enough to disagree with in this one (though the latter will have a harder time with it). I recommend getting the National Review/Weekly Standard bundle just to balance out the McCain worship from the Standard.

Want Weekly Standard Discount?

The Weekly Standard clearly has a conservatinve "bent." However, it is not the sort that screams, "This is the ONLY way to think about this topic." It is thoughtful commentary, delivered with well crafted writing. I come away from reading an issue thinking that I have been well informed.

Gi Jobs

Gi Jobs"G.I. Jobs" magazine is a great resource that features various government and private sector websites. I originally found out about this magazine from the Yokosuka, Japan Fleet and Family Support Center (when I was still in the navy and stationed in Japan). This magazine also features military veteran success stories. Additionally, this magazine features listings of military veteran companies and colleges that are friendly to both present active duty military and military veterans (separated and retired). "G.I. Jobs" is tailored to military veterans but it is also good for anyone searching for a magazine resource containing a diverse coverage of career and employment links.
