I have come to really like this magazine.

Most gay oriented magazines are not very 'readable'

in that they don't reflect very much.

In this magazine I found so far always something

that really engaged me and gave me a sense of

enrichment. It has a combination of variety and

depth that is difficult to achieve for any kind

of magazine. I' am renewing my subscription.

For sure this magazine is not glamour at all. But you find in it indeep articles about very interresting topics. It offers real reflections about gay life. I always learn a lot of things in it. I would say that it is the Time magazine for the gays.

I was looking for a lesbian magazine that wasn't about celebrities and other nonsense that I did not care for. It also needed to be entertaining or at least hold my attention for more than five minutes. The cover price is $4.95 and the subscription price is the same.

After receiving one issue I cancelled my subscrition. Here are some of the articles that put me to sleep; 1.) Gennady Trifonov, Dissident Russian Poet, Dies at 65 2.) How the Media Suppress Japan's Gay Past (1800's) 3.) Auden's Bardic Return to Oxford 4.) Modernism Comes to Old Albion (1910 London art show) 5.) Humiliation is a Grand Life Event (interview with Wayne Koestenbaum, author of Humiliation). May be great reading for someone with an interest in literature, let's say a professor of English lit at Stanford. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being mindless brain candy and 10 requiring 100% attention while reading, I would place tabloids at 1 and this magazine at 10. I spend my days designing and writing Cobol code, my mind in deep thought so during the evenings I do not desire to occupy my mind the same way. This magazine is not for me but may be what you have been looking for all your life.

Lots of great reading. I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to discover this magazine. I'm sure I'll be a subscriber for a long time.

Garden Gate Magazine is a publication for gardeners of all stripesa magazine with nice photography, gardening and craft instructions, and general tips to make your garden and general landscaping look better then ever. Amatuers and experienced gardeners alike will find many useful tips and bits of advice on decoration, plant care, and more.

I'm not big on outdoor creations, but I agree that a wellmanicured landscape and a nice garden area is not only easy on the eyes, it can also add a sense of peacefulness by its mere presence. Who doesn't enjoy walking into a beautiful garden area? Even if you have little interest in gardening, horticulture, or anything related, there is much to be said for a nice, green/flowery yard and Garden Gate Magazine is very useful to help you achieve exactly that, with projects and advice for individuals at different skill levels.

I have been reading Garden Gate Magazine for only a short time but I have found much useful information in this publication. The lists and the step by step instructions are among my favorites and I like that the magazine is not geared only toward those with the extragreen thumbs. I am not very skilled in a garden so I need a publication that respects my limited abilities. Garden Gate Magazine has plenty to offer an inexperienced person like myself and at the same time, it has plenty of great ideas that involve more extensive building and planting, making the magazine useful for the more experienced individual. Garden Gate Magazine leaves no person behind, and that is one of the publication's many appeals.

Garden Gate Magazine spells everything out nicely and includes plenty of diagrams so that even an outdoor klutz like myself can figure out what each thing means and what to do. The magazine has a good deal of information, too, and some might find it surprising that a publication with only 50 pages can include so much in so little space. Take a look at the Departments, "In Every Issue", and features listed above. When was the last time you saw a table of contents like that in a fifty-page magazine? There is a reason Garden Gate Magazine is able to pack in so much in so little room and the reason is there are no advertisements!! This is such a refreshing change from other magazines and it makes a big difference when you are trying to follow instructions. There is nothing to distract and the articles are not very long, making this the perfect reading option for those with shorter attention spans.

When a magazine is free from advertisements, it is often high in price and Garden Gate Magazine is no exception. The magazine is published only six times per year and each issue carries a high cover price around five dollars. To make matters worse, you don't get much of a cut in price when you subscribe. Buy all six issues at your local newsstand and it will cost you $30. Subscribe for a year, and it will cost you $24. This is a savings, yes, but it isn't nearly the level of subscription savings so common with other magazines. A twoyear deal makes the savings better (presently 2 years are offered for $38, cutting the cover price by 37 percent), but the cost per issue is still quite high and it is the direct result of publishing adfree.

If you can get past the cost, however, you will find that Garden Gate Magazine is a very good magazine with much to offer everyone who loves a nice landscape. As I said, I'm not even much into this type of work and I don't landscape as a hobby, yet I still like reading this magazine. If a publication can pique the interest of someone who doesn't even have a true interest in the subject, it must be doing something right and Garden Gate Magazine is definitely a periodical that is doing almost everything correctly.

Flying a plane is one of my frustrations, and Flight Simulator is as close as I can get to real flying. However, this magazine puts me in touch with what goes on out there, and it makes me feel like one of the lucky few who can actually own/fly a plane. I've been reading Plane and Pilot since the mid 90s and I still anticipate the arrival of each new issue.

This magazine is great for a person just starting out getting their license or an experienced one who flies for a living. I've enjoyed this magazine for years and find it is a great resource with various articles that cover a wide variety of topics in today's flying world! What is really good are the write ups regarding different flight schools as well as interviews with various people in the industry on subjects like safety, training and weather issues.

This is an excellent publication that transports the reader in its writings, informs thorougly in its reports and shares its knowledge in its articles. I have been subscribed to this newsletter for several years. This along with the Berkley Wellness Letter helps keep me informed on new nutrition news. I've been leaving it out on the dining table when it arrives the last few months and found out my husband has taken up reading it during breakfast or lunch! Never bothered before. I have made several changes in my habits when they've indicated something either does or does not work.

I got a subscription to this magazine as a gift. I have already received 6 issues and I have not been disappointed with any. Every issue has helpful tips, and a wonderful variety of projects that are well written, and illustrated. The yarn choices used for the projects are very easy to find, and are usually quite economical. One of my favorite features of this magazine is a quick reference in the back of every issue that covers basic stitches, and yarn substitutions (by both type of yarn, and brand). I have purchased several other crochet magazines, and this one is by far the best.

I am really surprised at the great reviews for this magazine. I'm a relatively new crocheter (I can read a pattern, I know all the basic stitches, can figure out the more complex ones, and I know how to check my gauge and adjust accordingly) and I don't think Crochet Today works for beginners at all. My main complaint is corrections. EVERY issue has one or more--usually more--patterns that have problems in it. Extra rows left off, too few stitches to begin the item, too many stitches to begin the item, incomplete rows, and other problems that a newbie wouldn't know how to fix. There are so many corrections that Crochet Today has a special "corrections" tab on its website. As a beginner, rarely will it occur to me that the problems in the item are due to a faulty pattern... of course I think that I must have done something wrong. This is maddening. Count my stitches, check the pattern, count my stitches again, check the pattern again, pull out the row and do it again, see what I can do, pull out that row too...

What really irks me is this: I understand the occasional error (and by "occasional" I mean one or two A YEAR) but I can't figure out why there are so many errors in this particular publication. It would be different if this were a general interest magazine or maybe a craft magazine not dedicated to knitting and crocheting. But this magazine is called CROCHET TODAY. All they do is print crochet patterns. You'd think there would be a crew of people testing to make sure that each pattern works the way it should. I mean, IT'S A CROCHET PATTERN BOOK! I've never gotten an issue of Vegetarian Times--which prints vegetarian recipes almost exclusively--where there was a corrections page that said, "Oopsie! You know that chocolate pie recipe we printed last month? We told you to use 4 oz. of bittersweet chocolate. Well what we meant to say was 8 oz. But we're guessing you figured that out since your finished pie probably tasted like crap."

That being said, the patterns are beautiful and fairly easy to read. They are graded beginner, easy, intermediate and expert and those gradings seem to be accurate. And like some other reviewers said, it has a handy stitch guide and pattern reading decoder (no decoder ring required), along with an index with both name and picture in the back of the book. I've made a couple of things that turned out as lovely as can be expected from a novice and I've attempted ones with enough errors to make me want to stab myself with my crochet hook.

Good magazine so far. I am actually thinking of getting a subscription. The patterns are not so far out there like Interweave Knits and Vogue Knitting lately. The patterns seem to be for real people and have easy to find yarns. Good mix of good yarns and cheaper ones.

There is a nice variety of patterns and most aren't too difficult to crochet. There is usually at least one pretty wearable to crochet in each issue. Many items can be finished in an evening or weekend and they are fairly modern or "freshened up" patterns of old favorites.

I have utilized and previewed MANY crochet magazines. As an avid crocheter for more than 8 years and a crochet teacher for 3, I can wholeheartedly recommend this magazine to experienced and beginner crocheters alike. There is usually at least one pattern that I will do out of each magazine. this is actually a pretty good deal, because single patterns typically cost about $5.00 to $6.00 per pattern, so $8.00 $12.00 for a year's subscription is a steal!

The patterns, most importantly, are modern and timely. This magazine does a good job of making crochet accessible to a wide audience. Some other magazines only do patterns with very high end, very expensive yarn. It is hard, as a beginner, to know what an appropriate yarn substitution is. With Crochet Today, you won't need a yarn substitution! Not only do the editors/designers choose reasonably priced and widely available yarns (most of which can be purchased at Michael's or Joanne's) they even show you swatches of what the pattern will look like in another color.

Advanced crocheters, like myself, will probably not want to rely on this magazine as their sole source of patterns. Interweave crochet is an outstanding companion to this magazine and allows your inner artist to really come out.

I do highly recommend this magazine, and I highly recommend getting a subscription, it is a huge savings off the "in-store" price and amazon.com has UNBEATABLE subscription prices to this particular magazine!
