Kayak Session

Kayak SessionKayak Session, "The International Whitewater Kayaker Magazine" is very international and optically very impressive. Great quality photos on glossy paper finally make our sport appealing to non-paddlers as well.

"If a photo speaks a thousand word, then Kayak Session is an encyclopedia..."

Kayak Session Magazine is simply the best paddling magazine in the world. The thick and glossy paper, super refined lay out, and fantastic photography makes it stand out on its own; Dubbed as the "national geography " of kayaking, it brings coffee table quality to the paddling world.

Kayak Session is a photo/travelling magazine that is as core as it can get.

The International content brings the little plus that makes you travel while sitting in your living room.

A must have for any watersports enthusiast.

Welcome to Ukraine

Welcome to UkraineLike a child at the holidays, I look forward to my copy of Welcome to Ukraine every quarter. The articles are diverse and informative, the pictures are fabulous. My only disappointment with the magazine is that it comes out quarterly instead of monthly! I cherish my copies dearly.

This is a beautiful high quality magazine. From cover to cover it is filled with beautiful pictures of people, places and art from a wonderful country. If you have any interest in Ukraine, its history, culture, art, music, or beautiful scenery, this magazine is a must. You will not be dissapointed. The latest magazine is 144 pages packed with well written articles and perfect photography.

Inspirations - Australia

Inspirations - AustraliaInspirations is the perfect name for this publication. Every feature inside is a little gem of needleart craftsmanship that would stand out against any professional work. How they manage to keep on creating those deligthtful designs every issue without starting to look like every other pedestrian embroidery magazine I have no idea, but the editors deserve a little prayer of thanks for their high standards.

Inspirations magazine is a pleasure to look at and read. Top needlework, smocking and sewing designers from Australia and around the world publish their projects here. Lovely photography complements layouts that are clean, elegant and decidedly feminine. Advertisements are restricted to the very back, leaving the main section content uninterrupted. Even the cover is printed on a nice, heavyweight stock closer to a book's quality than a magazine's.

What's really important to me in a crafting/artisan type magazine however is that the projects are actually do-able. In a publication of Inspirations' caliber, you'd expect such charming, intricate embroideries to be beyond the ability of the casual needleworker. Surprisingly, that's not the case at all! With each featured item there are embroidery keys and directions that guide each step, with clear illustrations. Full-sized patterns are found in the pull-out center section. If you have trouble coming up with materials and notions you can order project kits directly from the publisher. Everything is arranged to be as easy as possible, and the results are exquisite.

Every other month the arrival of Inspirations magazine spawns a new list of projects for my stash. For example, my favorite issue of 2002 had the following lineup: a charming measuring tape holder that looked like a little country cottage covered with flowers, a matching thimble holder, bullion roses paperweight, hedgehog pin cushion and needlebag, ribbon roses cushion, roses and daisies lap blanket, beribboned baby bunting, girl's overall with flowers, an elegant white ladies'linen shirt and a Victorian stitch book.

Even if you are a beginner you will find several things inside that are perfectly adapted to your ability, but which look like they require decades of experience. These are the kinds of unique items that strangers would inquire about.

Recommended for every skill level but caution: you may find yourself spending all your free time in embroidering bliss!

-Andrea, aka Merribelle

I buy lots of needlework magazines, including quilting, and this is the absolute #1 magazine I have ever read. In fact I just bought about 30 back issues.

I can't wait for the next issue to arrive. The projects are beautiful, and do-able. I think any one could do them from novice to experienced. Even the advertising is great. I love to get on the internet and surf through the sites of the advertisers.

I can't think of a single negative thing about this magazine except I wish it came more often!! If you subscribe you won't be disappointed.

For those who like stitching in any of its forms, this magazine is simply superb! I've subscribed to this magazine for some years and can't envisage not receiving it.

Glorious embroidery projects beautifully presented in a high quality glossy magazine: the pictures alone are enough to keep me subscribing. The projects are well laid out and clearly presented. As an added bonus, you can buy many of the projects in kit form and subscribers can do so at a discounted rate.

Highly recommended to those who love the visual feast of craft work.

Bunte Illustrierte

Bunte IllustrierteIt is just superb to be able to stay in contact with Germany, where my parents live. Somehow this magazine allows me to take part in life "at home".

I loved reading this magazine while living in Germany for almost 20 years and was extremely happy to learn that I could subscribe to it via Amazon.

For those who simply enjoy spending time gaining a glimpse at the lives and lifestyles of people within Germany and the upper crust around the world which you simply will not see in the American press, I recommend Bunte. It is more than a bit weak in politics and business but even these areas are addressed enough to keep that audience appeased on a day in the sun or an evening on the couch.

Orlando Magazine (1-year auto-renewal)

Orlando MagazineThis is the magazine for getting the information on who's who, what to do, where to go and what's up in Orlando, Florida. It gives the inside information on the players in Orlando and has fabulous articles. It is not only an informative magazine, but incredibly beautiful too! I look forward to every issue!

I find this magazine a nice capture of what is going on in Orlando. While I miss Scott Joseph's food reviews, (He's at Orlando Home and Leisure at the time I'm writing this review) I enjoyed the reviews in the 7/2010 and 8/2010 issues.

Calendar listing is great and the annual dining awards are reason enough to subscribe.

We live in the northeast but vacation in the Orlando area when we can. This magazine has good information about local entertainment and restaurants as well as information about the housing market and the health care system. Very informative magazine for someone looking for more than Mickey Mouse in Orlando [no disrespect meant to Mickey!].

Angels on Earth

Angels on EarthSome anonymous person left three issues of this magazine in the chiropractor's office, where my wife started reading and then asked if she could have them. Sure, said the receptionist. Thus were we introduced to a very inspirational magazine. Who knows? Maybe it was angel-guided. We like this magazine enough to subscribe -which is what brought me here to do this review.

"Angels on Earth" is published six times a year by Guideposts, which many people know through the "Guideposts" magazine (inspirational) and holiday theme books. Although Guideposts is definitely a Christian publisher, the "Angels" magazine itself is non-denominational and even inter-religious at times. One of the three issues we found in the doctor's office had a story about a Jewish Holocaust survivor. Another story was about a child looking for a lost cat, with no real focus on God as such, other than being "guided" to look in an unlikely place. Some of the people in the stories aren't all that religious or, if they are, their particular religion is presented as a part of their personal bio as it fits into the story, not as preaching or "witnessing."

The illustrations, too vary widely -from "church Sunday school" pictures of angels from the Renaissance Masters, to more ordiinary drawings of sea captains, cops, lumberjacks, ordinary moms and dads -depending on the story they illustrate. (If you know "Guideposts", you know the artwork -otherwise, think "Reader's Digest.")

The purpose of the magazine is not to convert you to anything but, rather, to tell true stories about people who have had encounters with guardian angels. "Belief" is left up to the reader. Some of the angel stories are of the "miracle" type: surviving car crashes, shipwrecks, serious illnesses, etc. Others are of the more "ordinary" type, such as the stranger who is there at the right moment. This fits with the Jewish POV of an angel, since the Hebrew word, malach, can refer either to a supernatural being or an earthly messenger.

Personally, I believe in angels, and I find the stories fascinating. Granted, some of them might strike you as versions of "The Vanishing Hitchhiker." On the other hand, all the stories are first-person, by-lined accounts, often with photos of the people or animals involved. And how do we know the Vanishing Hitchhiker isn't a real angel sometimes?

Angels on Earth magazine was mentioned in a blog I stumbled upon about a year ago. On a whim, I decided to subscribe. It was money well-spent.

This little magazine is filled with short articles and some surprisingly beautiful illustrations to give you that little shot of inspiration to carry you through another day of life. I sometimes stash it in my bag, and when I have a moment I read a page or two, and it gives me a sense of peace and calm.

Sometimes, you just need to stop and smell the roses... or see the Angels! I've passed old issues of it on to others, and they have all fallen in love with Angels on Earth magazine.

Perhaps you will, too.

Buy Angels on Earth Now

Angels have a habit of appearing at just the right moment and in the most unlikely of places. In the January/February 2008 issue Angels on Earth magazine these "messengers" (the word angel comes from the Greek word "angelos" which means messenger.) were spotted in a fancy French restaurant, on duty after Hurricane Katrina, and during a moment of weakness. In my own case, my Valentine Angel (pg 44) worked for the local utility company.

Reading about the angelic encounters of others can give us hope in our own life. "Every visible thing in this world," said St Augustine, "is put under the charge of an angel." Angels do exist and if you are open you will soon have your own story to share.

Lastima. Me encantaba el periodico viridico.
