Kayak Session

Kayak SessionKayak Session, "The International Whitewater Kayaker Magazine" is very international and optically very impressive. Great quality photos on glossy paper finally make our sport appealing to non-paddlers as well.

"If a photo speaks a thousand word, then Kayak Session is an encyclopedia..."

Kayak Session Magazine is simply the best paddling magazine in the world. The thick and glossy paper, super refined lay out, and fantastic photography makes it stand out on its own; Dubbed as the "national geography " of kayaking, it brings coffee table quality to the paddling world.

Kayak Session is a photo/travelling magazine that is as core as it can get.

The International content brings the little plus that makes you travel while sitting in your living room.

A must have for any watersports enthusiast.

In-Fisherman (1-year auto-renewal)

In-FishermanThis is truly the Journal of Freshwater Fishing. It is multi-species in its approach covering bass, catfish, walleye, musky, panfish, stripers even Carp! All articles cover the "hows" of a given technique but I.F. goes into the "whys' behind the success of particular technique(s). Through high quality illustrations & explanations you learn about fish behavior and preferred/optimal habitat. Then they explain environmental factors that affect the fish species and how that in turn should influence your approach to catching them. Every article can be read multiple times with new info gleaned from each and every pass. IMO it is a "must have" for all anglers!

I bought this subscription for my 14 year old son. He's not a big reader but loves this magazine.

This magazine contains lots of useful information for the fisherman. Tactics and rigging are described for nearly all types of gamefish, and updates on the latest equipment and techniques are discussed thoroughly. This is a 'how to' resource as opposed to many fishing mags that merely show off the trophies.

Prudent Speculator

Prudent SpeculatorI've been a subscriber to this newsletter since the late 90s. Traditionally, their recommendations have come out about 70/30 winning stocks. However, since the beginning of 2011, the losers have been outnumbering the winners substantially, and this is in a period when the Dow and the Nasdaq indices were up. Even with a few stellar performers, their overall performance in recommended buys has been fading. I will not be renewing my subscription.

What a dolt "Busy Guy" must be. He buys one stock, loses money, and says the system doesn't work. Get a brain. The Prudent Speculator, John Buckingham & company, clearly shows that about thirty percent of the recommended stocks will not turn out well, which is why they insist that at least twenty different stocks are a minimum (personally, I have over one hundred in my portfolio following their advice very successfully over fifteen years, thank you). That being said, you also have to do your homework to make sure that you have a well diversified portfolio based on industry segments and capitalization ranges.

Buy Prudent Speculator Now

I would recommend this subscription to anyone who wants to be a value investor, but, you have to do your own research. After all, it's your money your investing. This is not for momentum investors. You buy the stock when it is out of favor and wait until Mr. Market figures out it is undervalued. Sometimes you have to wait a while. Sometimes it doesn't pan out, but, if you buy stocks that pay dividends and take the dividends in new shares, you can be rewarded well over a period of 3 years or so. OK, from 2001 till 2008 the market sucked. That happens.

A couple weird things to point out. I signed up at the end of May and they gave me 12 issues ending my subscription at the beginning of the next May. I guess they don't count the weekly updates as a part of the subscription. You get 12 subscriptions, but only 11 months of advice.

Also, if you go to this link, https://tps.magazinemanager.com/subscribe/subscribe_renewOnlineCF_TPS_Custom.asp?renew=&source=website , you can renew for 2 years at a discount, something that is not offered through AMAZON. Wish it was.

I bought this publication. It touted a bank stock as one of the 2 best stocks one month to buy saying it didn't have any 'toxic' loans. I bought it. Turns out it had lots of bad real estate loans. Another bank finally took if over. Lost most of my money. So much for the research of high paid professionals.

Transworld SurfGreat magazine. Can't get this for any cheaper so you might as well go through Amazon. Takes about 3 weeeks to get your first issue.

The articles and photos save me in the long cold winter months in the cold North.

What sets this mag apart from others is the format, paper quality and the quality of it's contributors.

This is a perfect gift for yourself, anyone who surfs, or anyone who is interested in looking at beautiful pictures and exploring far off places.

Cycle World (1-year auto-renewal)

Cycle WorldHachette Filipacchi Media has horrible customer service. Several months ago, they mailed me a renewal offer for $10 for 24 issues (2-years) which I submitted with a personal check. They cashed in my check and I checked my account online only to discovered they only renewed it for 12 more issues. I emailed them and was told that they have lots of offers and only one for $10/12-issues. I sent them my offer code and even scanned a copy of the letter I received, but they would not honor their own offer and claimed that they had a 24-issue offer for $12.00. Notwithstanding, it took on average 3-4 days before I would get a reply. I did not even bother calling them because it was long-distance and I was sure I'd be placed on hold longer than I'd like. After weeks of communication, they finally agreed to honor their $10/24 issue offer.

For this much hassle, I have to drop the rating down to 2/5 stars but only because of the publishing company. I hate to do this because I feel the magazine is very good.

The magazine content itself is quite educational and well-written. I do not own a motorcycle but I enjoy reading about them, as well as racing tips and other tool tips that I could apply to auto racing/cars. Many of the car magazines are more interested in selling aftermarket parts or reviewing expensive foreign cars that no one could afford even after 3 lifetimes. I discovered Cycle World to focus more on the relationship between driver and machine, even if the machine has only 2 wheels! I read many negative reviews about how Cycle World was only focusing on Japanese "crotch rockets" but I must disagree. I have found it to contain balanced content covering everything from touring bikes, scooters, beginner motorcycles, and up to the Super Sport bikes. If you're into motorcycles, Cycle World is your magazine.

I give the magazine itself 4/5 stars, but the publisher (whom provides the subscription) was a severe disappointment.

I've been reading Cycle World since 1977 and it's by far the best all-round motorcycle mag you can get. It covers every aspect of motorcycling, including sport bikes, dirt bikes, standards, cruisers, racing articles, top-notch technical articles by experts like Kevin Cameron, wonderful features and articles by Peter Egan (America's most beloved moto-journalist), op-ed pages, etc. It covers British, Italian, American, Japanese and German bikes alike, with detailed performance and technical data. Even the advertising is good. It's a fun read, from front to back. Cycle World is a high quality magazine, just like its sister publication for car lovers, Road & Track.

Buy Cycle World (1-year auto-renewal) Now

I've been a suscriber of this magazine for about 15 years and find it the most well rounded writings of the motorcycle offerings in the US.

If you are looking for a broad interest in motorcycle coverage this is it. For the price to content ratio this magazine remains a constant in my readings. I currently read about 4 brands a month and Cycle World is the first one I pick up.

Good Reading!!

Motorcycle enthusiasts are a unique breed and the main quality that sets them apart from the rest of civilization is their unyielding enthusiasm for their chosen sport/hobby. They often become consumed with biking and, like golf fanatics and others, they view every spare moment as an excuse to partake in their chosen activity.

Cycle World is a magazine designed with the motorcycle enthusiast in mind. This publication is made for the type of biker who not only likes to ride his cycle, but also liked to learn as much about motorcycles as possible. There are, of course, plenty of articles in each issue of Cycle World that talk about the joys of riding and the sport of motorcycle racing. But Cycle World includes other articles, tooarticles that only the wellrounded motorcycle fan will be likely to read and appreciate. Some articles focus on new technology. Others dispense advice on motorcycle repair. There are also travel articles and personality profiles as well, making for a nicely rounded publication.

I'm not a motorcycle enthusiast or even a casual fan, but I still like certain sections of Cycle World and I try to read a few of them every month. My favorite sections of Cycle World are those that feature new products. Cycle World is among the first publications to report on new motorcycles and other related products and the magazine includes plenty of great photos, test data, and various statistics. In a matter of minutes, one can quickly learn the pros and cons of a specific motorcycle and more easily make a buying decision. Even though I am not a fan, I still like these articles because, like articles on new cars, they often include some very cool new product offerings that can easily impress anyoneeven a nonfan like me.

Motorcycles are loved by their many enthusiastic fans and Cycle World is a magazine intended for those who want a wellrounded publication about motorcycles, their upkeep, and their use for entertainment. Most of the pages in each issue are dedicated to the different motorcycles produced by different manufacturers, but there is plenty other information to be found in this magazine about motorcycles and Cycle World makes a good choice for those who want to know how to ride, repair, and enjoy their hobby as much as possible.

Skateboarding

SkateboardingThis is a (very brief) review of four different skateboard magazines. To make sure that previous experience was not biasing my opinion (too much), I got four issues that were out at the same time. The magazines are Transworld Skateboarding (TS), Thrasher Magazine (TM), Skateboarder (SM) and SBC Skateboard (SS).

For photography, TS probably takes the lead. For the skateboard lifestyle, the edge goes to TM. For those who like to read text, SM has the most. Surprisingly, the best is probably SS, which is a balanced combination of all three styles.

Before spending too much on any one magazine, I suggest you try the same so that you get THE magazine you want.

This magazine is exactly what a skating mag should be. Pics, worked in advertisements, nice little poster tear-outs, "skater slang", interviews, top 5's, and all sorts of other goodies you will enjoy.

the magizine is very thick but a lot of it is adds. The adds have good pictures of skaters doing tricks and stuff though. It also has cool interveiws and stuff. It is the only magizine i get. If you like to skate buy this magizeine.

Transworld is worth the Money! It's the price of a regular magazine, but 3 times as thick! Sure there are a lot of adds in it, but hey, they're all just pictures of skaters doing tricks! Also, there are cool articles, interviews, and coverage of tours. Any skater with {money} should buy this. SKATEBOARDNG IS NOT A SPORT!!!!!!!!

I bought this mag at a grocery store. I'm fascinated with skateboarding. It's a really thick magazine. Probably because nearly everything in it are ads. That's annoying. Good pictures, though. Anyway, it's pretty nice. I'd recommend looking around at other magazines like "Thrasher", "Skateboarding", etc. Enjoy!

Simply Knitting

Simply KnittingI've been buying knitting magazines for a year now and have finally decided that this is my absolute favorite! I like it because it has a very attractive lay out and a great variety of features. It is very down to earth with sections that focus on the readers: pen-pal ads, want ads, reader questions and photos of projects. There is always a really cute Alan Dart pattern of an animal, ornament or other toy. Debbie Bliss is also a regular pattern contributor. They have a good focus on building basic knitting skills with photos to help explain and a stitch library showing 3 new stitches to try. Interesting articles about knitting, past and present. They always review a groups of yarns in the same weight, as well as several books and websites. Lately there have been many US based websites reviewed. And you can't beat the fact that there is a gift with each issue...recent gifts include a pair of bamboo knitting needles, project clips to hold seams while you join, 3 ball yarn keeper/guide, a booklet of patterns for an Advent tree and 25 ornaments to make for it. Readers range in age from kids up to grannies. Pattern models tend to be babies, young children, older teens and gals in their 20s-40ish. Once you use the guide and glossary to get in English knitting mode, the patterns are not diffcult to understand and the print is color coded for different sizes and large enough to follow easily. Yes, the ads do focus on the British market, and the patterns use British yarns. They do however make the yarn weight and guide requirements very clear so you should be able to substitute fairly easily if you aren't using the suggested yarn. The patterns are often a new take on a classic form. And the variety is good: decorative items, ladies, childrens, mens, socks, bags, cushions, etc. If you are a knitter interested in the most trendy or difficult knits, this may not be for you. But if you knit for fun and fellowship, take a look!

I've now read 4 issues of this magazine and found several projects in each one. For beginners, the tutorials about the special techniques used in each project are especially helpful, and they make a quick review for more-experienced knitters. The 'learn to knit' section in the back of each issue is nearly as comprehensive as many standalone knitting-basics booklets. The projects in each issue's theme are generally diverse, with some patterns being attractive to more traditional or experienced knitters and others appealing to newer or more trend-conscious knitters.

This magazine is worth the $$. The reason it's expensive is because it's from Britian but it's so worth the price. There is a new issue every month with a free gift. The magazine has something for every kind of knitter. Every issue has all kinds of knits that include accessories, baby items, adult clothing, dolls, tips and more. There are interesting articles every month that involve knitting for a great cause. What more can I say, except I love it!

im a grandma now but i learned to knit at age 3. i have knitted and created and been proud of the beautiful things ive made for three generations. when i was young we had mccalls big magazine there was knitting world a lovely publication and workbasket a tiny book chock full of quality patterns. then knitting here in this country lost favor no one knits any more just us dinasaurs and a very few youngsters. patterns for toys at a time when imports are loaded with danger are almost non existant those that are available are sloppy garter stitch squares you sew together. sweaters are what i call unconstructed sloppy collars poorly designed. i had all but given up. then i found a simply knitting magazine at a garage sale i couldnt put it down. when i got to the alan dart pattern i was hooked. a real toy with shaped body expressive features actually had fingers and ears and a beard i found things for gifts and for the church sale i looked everywhere before finding a subscription here i paid very high single copy prices on e-bay. i have had a monthly delivery of this wonderful magazine for a year now. i can tell anyone who is thinking of the price do it. so its expensive, if you love to knit, if you want to learn, if you know how but havent knitted in ages because the available pattern books have been so poor that you havent made a thing in years, BUY THIS ONE!

you wont be sorry. if you dont keep patterns you can resell each copy for more than you paid if you find another disallusioned knitter. but you will keep each issue and if there is a child close to you alan dart toys are to die for. i could type praise for hours but my latest issue just arrived and there are at least 8 patterns i need to make. two beautiful dolls to make and a water bottle cozy three sweaters all beautiful and 2 needle socks and a scarf. so much to do so little time. and a free measuring tape this issue.

i sure wish this country would offer knitting magazines again but for now im with the brits they have the most wonderful patterns.

I found this in a bookstore, but am seriously considering a subscription despite the high cost in the US. It is definitely worth the price tag the free gifts alone would be valued at about half the cost. The March '08 issue has a wonderful purse clasp with very clear instructions on how to make an adorable purse. Watch out for the different terminology that is used in the UK, especially with crochet. (Yes, there is a bit of crochet included, but don't worry if you don't like to crochet it's minimal for edgings and such.) Simply Knitting also uses higher quality and larger paper very pretty and nice to handle.

W

WThis magazine has excellent fashion photography. Mostly this is in the form of advertisements, which take up the first 175 pages and many more throughout. The pages are almost twice the size of a standard magazine, which leaves room for more artistic ads. The articles, I find hard to relate to or take seriously. To me, they seem more like tabloid tales of sordid love affairs and over-hyped parties than any kind of actual informative articles. For a magazine that is touted as a fashion industry standard, I expected to see many more articles about fashion, styles, and designers rather than Hollywood gossip. The photographs and fashion advertisements really are great, and I believe they would be the most useful aspect of this magazine for people interested in fashion.

I guess if you're one of those lucky people who has more money and time than they know what to do with, W is for you. This magazine focuses mostly on rich people, the clothes they buy, and the parties that they attend. I'm not just talking celebrities, either. If that was the case, then perhaps W would be onto something. But no... W prefers to devote at least half their articles to spotlighting people like Eugino Lopez, "heir to the vast Jumex juice fortune." And then they tell us about their beachfront properties, glittering social circles, and $1,700 Louis Vuitton Murakami purses. I don't know about you, but anyone who is willing to pay that much for something that looks like an embossed leather Hot Pocket isn't worth paying $4.50 to read about.

Buy W Now

This magazine is the absolute best around for fashion. It hits every huge and upcoming trend way before it comes out. A lot of people seem to be griping about how expensive everything is and how you can only be a millionaire to dress like that. However I love this magazine not for the fact that its chock full of expensive designer clothes, but for the styles and fantastic outfits themselves. There are a million ways to use ideas from this magazine and work them into your wardrobe. There are plenty of cheaper options like vintage clothing stores and customizing sale itemsall to get the coveted designer look that W illustrates with absolute perfection. I'm a poor college student and even though I'm not in fashion design, I use W all the time and make clothes that are deadringers for alot of the ones featured in W. I even used a couple dresses in this very magazine and copied them into two different prom dresses. Its suprisingly more simple than one would think. This magazine is an essential for me. The rest of them can not and will not ever be able to measure up to W, because W has the inside connections to show you (in gigantic glossy spreads neverless!)whats hot before it hits mainstreamand I don't mean small town mainstream, I mean beating the styles and having them before they even reach a mall and lightyears before they turn into a hoochie-craze (a la "LV" mukrami bags!) and fake Tiffany's silver. If you are a young woman who loves to call the trends before anyone else, do yourself a favor and pick up this magazine. I guarentee you that if you keep an open mindit will be one of your best buys yet.

"W" magazine is such an important staple in the world of fashion, that even guys like me can't help but read it. To call this a women's magazine would really be unfair, for it offers in-depth articles on the fashion industry, profiles on celebrities, and an excellent supplement for men published on a quarterly basis. This men's supplement offers fashion info that's hip and contemporary, but not trendy enough to spook the average American male. As with all fashion magazines, "W" could feature more models of color on their cover, but that's a relatively small gripe compared to the wealth of good stuff this magazine offers. Overall, bravo the folks at "W" a job well done!

I don't look at this magazine and go "boy I can't WAIT to read the atricles inside!". Instead, when I buy it I look for the advertisements. I love the oversized pages and the photography is wonderful. I have the walls of my room adorned in ads from this magazine. They are splinded. The articles however are lacking a little. They are almost impossible to find because there are so few, and the ones they do have are just pointless.
