Get Lost Magazine

Get Lost MagazinePrimarily aimed at the younger (and poorer) travel bug sufferer this glossy Australian magazine is a pretty good read and in it's country of origin quite cheap.

The magazine covers travel spots around the world and is aimed very much at looking at travel to out of the way places and undiscovered gems and it probably doesn't matter where you are from given that the magazine tends not to focus overmuch on it's home turf. Most of the articles are just a few pages long and overall the format is pretty much par for the course for any travel mag around the planet.

One thing that would make it a tiny bit less useful for the international reader is that the adverts in the mag are going to be aimed at Australian readers and any dollar prices listed are generally for the same readership.

Overall a good magazine chock full of great travel ideas with which to destroy your bank balance.... I just put down my latest copy a moment ago!

Australian Homespun

Australian HomespunI WAS GIVEN A COPY OF HOMESPUN MAGAZINE BY MY SISTER IN LAW ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO. SHE BUYS IT IN A SMALL TOWN NORTH OF SAN JOSE, WHERE WE BOTH LIVE. I WAS SO EXCITED BY THE CONTENTS I IMMEDIATELY WENT ONLINE IN SEARCH OF A NORTH AMERICAN DISTRIBUTOR AND BOUGHT 6 MORE AUSTRALIAN MAGAZINES FROM THEM FOR US TO SHARE. I AM LOOKING INTO A SUBSCRIPTION TO TWO OF THEM. THEY CONTAIN EVERYTHING REGARDING NEEDLEWORK/SEWING THAT WE ARE INTERSTED IN. WE ARE HOPING TO FIND SOMEONE LOCAL WHO WILL BECOME A DISTRIBUTOR FOR THIS FINE MAGAZINE AND THE OTHER ONE WE LIKE.

The magazine has the perfect blend of quilting needlework and great projects and really appeals to what I enjoy doing. I almost dropped my shorts when I saw the cost of this subscription!! I buy it in my local quilt store for $10 each month. I had thought to buy a subscription to be lazy. Guess I will keep buying it at the quilt shop monthly! Wow, good luck at that price!!

Cottage Life

Cottage LifeWe LOVE this magazine, it is practical, humorous, full of useful info, and scaled to normal living, not decorator hype. Published in Canada, it seems to have a tone of simplicity and common sense. It is geared to the camp or cottage owner and great for off-season reading, when you want to stay psyched about the camp until you can get back there. One great article walked us through the entire "opening up" procedure, in exhaustive but hilarious detail.

This magazine if great for Cabin/Cottage living and life on the water. My husband and I get lots of useful information out of this magazine and save back issues for years. However,we cannot understand why the subscription rate is so high. If the subscription rate were 1/2 as much we'd probably subsribe for many years, but have a hard time with the approximately $7 per issue (U.S. customers). It seems like a highway robbery. Granted it's by far the best cabin/cottage magazine out there, as opposed to Coastal Living or others that seem geared to the Million dollar vacation homes, whereas this one seems to touch all home styles and true seasonal cottages/cabins, etc. We wish there was something so good on the U.S. side of the border.

Officiel 1000 Modeles

Officiel 1000 ModelesThis is a valuable investment.

I would never loan one to a friend, throw an issue out ,or cut it up. The first year I ordered the subscription from Amazon and was irked to go to the news stand and see an issue I didn't get. A full years subscription (I had to order directly from the publisher) sends you issues for all of the collections: men's and women's wear, couture; and accessories right off the runways from around the world.

I have been in the clothing business for over 20 years. This magazine is well worth the price and ends up being a little lower than buying them off the news stand (where not every issue gets ordered).

Not everything can be found on the internet when a collection gets older, so I have a shelf of back issues (full of post-it's) for great inspiration and problem solving.

If your business is fashion or you're passion is high style I highly suggest this magazine.

No fashionista should be without this magazine. Fresh from the catwalk, gives one a first look!

Communio : International Catholic Review - English Edition

Communio : International Catholic Review - English EditionEdited by Dr. David L. Schindler, Dean and Gagnon Professor at the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and the Family in Washington, DC, the North American "Communio" is part of an international federation of (15) Communio magazines published in various languages around the world.

In 1972, Communio was begun by Hans Urs von Balthasar, Henri de Lubac, and Joseph Ratzinger, among others. And Communio offers academic theological articles on the mysteries of faith, which take inspiration from the whole tradition of the Church, from the Fathers of the Church to the literary and theological authors of twentieth-century Ressourcement (return to the sources).

In each of the quarterly issues, one can typically find about ten articles of academic theology coverting the full range from soteriology, Christology, Mariology, ecclesiology, eschatology, Scriptural approaches, ecumenism, etc. These articles feature original work and translations of articles from Communio journals from other countries. In addition, the occaisional "Retrieving the Tradition" and "Spirit and History" sections feature reprints and new translations from the tradition of the Church: from Maximus the Confessor to Dorothy Day.

Do I read and understand each article? No. I am just an amateur theologian. I subscribe to Communio because each issue contains one or more article that proposes new ways to broaden and deepen my understanding of the faith.

I majored in Theology, and feel strongly that this is the most intellectually and spiritually challenging magazine I have ever read. I know of no others in the same class. If you want to be challenged to really think, don't miss out on this one!

This magazine was founded, as I understand it, by the likes of Ratzinger and von Balthasar. It comes out every three months and it takes me that long to digest it thoroughly. I have alwavs kept my old copies and gone back to them over and over. My appreciation for St. John the Baptist [almost unknown in popular piety, but notice that he comes right after the Blessed Virgin in the Litany of Saints] goes back to a paper by Lawrence Goodall in COMMUNIO. I believe that it has ties to the Communion and Liberation movement. It has also had an article from Angelo Scola when he was a small-town bishop.

Massachusetts Wildlife

Massachusetts WildlifeI gave this magazine to my friend Michelle's 10 year old son as a birthday gift. Though they have a house, they have so much land in back and they see a lot of Massachusett's nature firsthand.

Plus, it's hard to give a 10 year old boy a gift that's not too expensive, not clothes (oh Auntie Cookie, how wonderful, another sweater)and not violent. Nice to not pay shipping either.

It took awhile for the first issue to arrive, so I stopped asking how he liked it and went on with life. Today, I received a renewal notice and called Michelle to see if he ever got the magazine. She went on about how much he LOVES it and the first time the renewal notice came to Ben (not sure I LIKE THAT duplication)he made sure Mom renewed.

I'm glad I asked. As much as he enjoys the mag, he doesn't need two of them!

This was a gift for my daughter who lives in Mass. She likes it and I plan to renew it for her.

Ol' Henry turns 91 next week and he loved to hunt and fish in his younger days. A massive stoke landed him in a wheelchair: So this subscription means alot to him.

Hopscotch : the Magazine for Girls

Hopscotch : the Magazine for GirlsA friend gave us her back issues of this magazine. It is full of fun, ideas, and experiments. I like the idea of no advertisements. I like that there's no agenda of trying to make little girls grow up too fast (no make-up, hair styles, fashion, etc.). Not sure if they still do this, but there's a section where you can get a pen pal through the magazine. Several letters were from home schooled kids. I wouldn't down-grade product that tells you in the description that it takes 12-16 weeks to arrive. It does sound like a long time, but it was disclosed upon ordering.

I ordered this magazine along with Fun for Kidz two years ago. My girls love them and even use them for school. There are no inappropriate articles and no advertisements. I have had no problem and have renewed and ordered for friends. I would recommend these magazines.

I was prepared for a long wait but was surprised to see it in the mail after only 3 weeks of ordering. It's very educational, fun and my daughter loves the craft projects. Oh and best of all, it has no ads. Yay!

I ordered this for Christmas for my neice as well as 2 magazines for my nephews, her brothers. They received their magazines within 6 weeks. She didn't receive the first one until May, the second arrived in September. She should have received every 2 months. I am looking for a different magazine for her for this year.

When ordering this magazine you have to wait a very long time before the first magazine arrives. I ordered this magazine for my niece in March and it is now May. The first magazine is suppose to arrive late May early June. I cannot give this product a good rating because the product has not yet arrived.

Future Music

Future MusicThe earlier reviewer commenting on the price is referring to the US edition of the magazine, which is about $20 per year, and is no where near as well put together. This is a great magazine, I had the subscription for it and bought it in pounds and got the bill once it had been converted to dollars, needless to say I only did it for one year. It's still less than buying it at the newsstand which is around $16 per issue I think. If you like to get new audio samples, tutorials, plugins and virtual instruments every month, this is "the" magazine to get, if you like that stuff but don't want to pay the charge for having it sent over the pond, consider the US version, but realize they are not the same and the US one is not nearly as good.

This magazine is invaluable for the present-day producer.

I produce hip hop tracks and find that this particular magazine is tailored perfectly to the producer who works much with virtual instruments, plug-ins and the like.

Each month's issue also comes with a bonus CD that includes plug-in demos (often free fully-functional plugins), tutorial videos, sound samples, etc. This, for me, puts "Future Music" in a different league than other magazines.

Mags like Mix and EQ are great covering a wider scope of music and music-for-film production, but for the producer working with a Digital Audio Workstation, "Future Music" is probably the best "get right down to business" audio magazine available.

Highly Recommended.

This mag is not publish anymore as told in previous reviews. They won't tell you instead I got a note that said I would get Guitar World, and got 1 issue only. Not only I just got 1 issue, but I never asked for guitar world. Please take note that Amazon is very good at everything except mag subscriptions. They send you with the publisher to deal with. No refund are made this way. Also this happened with the Mental Floss mag subscription. Your are on your own with magazine subscriptions.

Just like another reviewer, I sent in the card for a preview issue. I did receive one issue, which I found to be of limited value anyway. I have since been bombarded with collection agency notices. I can't believe I may have to get legal help for this. Absolute rubbish.

I sent in a card for a preview issue and never recieved it. Since then I've been bombarded with with forceful Must Pay notices. They've now turned me over to a collection agency. I've not to this day subscribed.

Petersen's Bowhunting (1-year auto-renewal)

Petersen's BowhuntingIf this isnt the best bowhunting magazine out there Id like to know which one is.

All bowhunting all the time.

I renewed my hubby's subscription to this magazine through Amazon. It's one of his faves, and I'd rather have hunting mags on the back of the toilet than what could be there. LOL. I love the convenience of Amazon, and the magazines autorenewal is just icing on the cake!

When my husband was young he did a little archery hunting. He's retired now and decided to take it up again. He's been on two hunting trips. The first trip he got himself his first deer. The second trip he wasn't as lucky. He's been enjoying reading stories of the techniques other archery hunters use.

Good magazine. Only complaint is that they send "THIS IS YOUR LAST ISSUE" from about the 3rd month, on ... annoying and confusing.

Vogue Gioiello

Vogue GioielloWhen my daughter graduated from GIA (Gemological Institute of America), she had only one request: Vogue Gioiello! So, we ordered a subscription for her birthday and just renewed. She absolutely loves the rich photographs and beautifully displayed jewelry. Warning: It takes several months to receive your first issue, so if you are ordering for a special occasion, do so well in advance!
