My 11 year old loves this magazine and all the gossip that goes with it. It's the typical teeny-bop stuff she and her friends enjoy reading. I allow them one of these magazine subscriptions, but praise her when she spends her time reading the National Geographic and other books that she actually learns something from. I think withholding this from her would just make her want it more and obsess about it, so I allow it. Thankfully she seems to leaf through it, make a few comments, and then could take it or leave it. We do, however, discuss that she cannot believe everything she reads in these magazines.

Twist is overall a good magazine for teen girls ages 12-17, particulary those who like to read about celebrities, fashion, and beauty the most. It gives you the most updated info on TV, music, and movies too, which is a nice thing. The main focus is celebrities, however. Twist features everything that girls like to read aboutcelebrity gossip and rumors, posters and pinups, fashion and beauty hints, embarrasing moment stories, and more. It's a little bit more mature then J-14, M, Popstar, etc., so there are some topics about sex, romance, etc.

Like I mentioned before, this magazine is basically the same as J-14 and Mthey have mostly the same articles, features, and posters, but that's not a reason to miss out on this magazine. I would mostly recommend Twist for those who like these types of magazines but would like one that's a bit more mature and stylish.

It is beyond me why any pre-teen or teen would want to read this kind of magazine. I was reading this magazine a couple of weeks ago on a ski trip because my 13-year old friend happens to get it in her mail. The truth is, this magazine lacks substance.

I don't see why people even care what JoJo's friend thinks about her being a celebrity, how MK is recovering in the hospital from being anorexic or what Jesse McCartney's marital status is. Leave the celebs alone; let them live their life. I've seen the same things printed in this magazine over and over. This magazine is shallow and is downright materialistic (i.e. some articles that I have seen on various covers were "Get him to do anything you want!", "What's Jesse McCartney's nickname?" and "Terrified of being alone?").

I don't like most magazines, but if you want a mag with REAL substance, look forth for Seventeen or CosmoGIRL! magazine. And to the preteens--skip this magazine. The editors write at a level that 2nd graders can understand. Read anything but this--your local newspaper, even National Geographic (one of my favorites). This magazine is $17 for 10 issues--don't you think that's a bit pricey? If you're a parent, please don't buy your daughter this mindless garbage. Can't you find anything decent for your kids to read?

I must say that I've read just about every teen magazine on the market, and this is by far the worst one I've ever read. However, at this point in my life, everything appears superficial and immature.

I first picked up Twist when it debuted on newsstands. I believe that was in August 1997. I was nine then, and looking to be fashion forward among my girlfriends who were still into the Jungle Gym. Because of my insane desire to be cool, and because Twist wasn't too hard for me to understand, I loved it and bought it religiously for about a year. My obsession with it slowly faded as the magazine got progressively worse and I didn't pick it up again...

...until my junior year in high school. Looking through a then-current issue of the magazine, I noticed that the way in which it was written was MADE to be comprehensible to a nine year-old, or the lowest common denomination of older teenage readers. What I'm trying to say is this magazine is totally dumbed-down. It doesn't give girls any credit for being able to think creatively, let alone read above a fourth-grade level.

I also found the content to be more childish and superficial than other teen magazines (although they are all superficial to an extent that doesn't mean they don't make delightfully fun and entertaining reading to share with friends). Therefore, I recommend this magazine to tweens (9-13), and tweens only. But even they can do better than this magazine. Older readers should check out the somewhat more sophisticated 'Elle Girl' or 'Cosmo Girl', my two personal favorites.

P.S. I agree with one of the other reviewers who pointed out the numerous spelling errors in the magazine. Possibly my biggest caveat is the constant misuse of the apostrophe (i.e. Tuesday's instead of Tuesdays).

paid for in Nov for a year subscriptin...was to be a christmas gift for a 16 year old. Months later still no issues have been rec'd. Filled complaint. Rec'd two isses total since. 2nd complaint a few weeks ago. No answer. 3rd complaint today. Waiting to see if any feed back will be advised on status. They need to either update the expiration date so that she will receive all issues I paid for or need to issue me a full refund. Don't understand why no one has contacted me back after 2nd complaint.

Texas Fish and Game

I used to enjoy this magazine but as it's states ALL OVER the web. They have really had problems. The pictures are (they admit) faked and not live action. The product reviews are simply cut and paste from the customers website (no actual review) and its about half the size it used to be with 1/2 the content. Most being from the same ole advertisers. Yes, it used to be a good source, but in the last couple of years it has really gone down hill. There are several other good choices on Amazon

This is absolutely the best outdoor magazine not only in Texas but the entire country. No other magazine even comes close. I learn more in one issue than I do any other and I don't live in Texas. I do, however, visit quite often. This magazine tells you the best places to hunt and fish and goes into detail about how to get the most out of your outdoor experience.

Phoenix Magazine

I love this magazine, but i live in AZ, am not sure why anyone who lives in another state would want it, but I love it, especially the "best of"

Arabian Horse Times

The Arabian Horse Times is an all around great read providing me with show information and results, information on top breeders and trainers and information straight from indusrty insiders. The magazine is top-notch, just like the Arabian horse. A must have for Arabian enthusiasts!

Lots of greased, shaved, photoshopped horses. No articles on other disciplines. To be fair, I base this on the free issue I was sent, plus issues I have flipped through of my friends.....who agreed with my assesment. For this reason I have never subscribed to this magazine. It is the show industry who advertises though...sadly understandable.

Sure do wish they would lighten up on the xbreeds and focus on the Arabian more. This magazine is supposed to be about ARABIANS. NOT SADDLEBREDS.It seems as tho the breeders are trying to make Saddlebreds out of the Arabian, and if they don't want the Arabian then go buy a Saddlebred!!!! It is so sad we have lost the original Arabian,that nothing can replace. Who could ever want anything better? THE BEAUTIFUL ARAB IS THE BEST!!!!! THE ORIGINAL ARAB IS UNEQUALLED.

Our State

While waiting in a waiting room go figure I happened to pick up a copy of Our State. This is the first time I was happy to be waiting. I was unfamiliar with this magazine, and found the articles and photos were excellently interesting. I scanned as many issues as I could in the time I had. I am a native and found much info I was totally unaware of. I would think it would be of equal, or greater interest to transplants as well.

Although I haven't recieved my first issue on this current subscription, I can say without a doubt that this is the best publication I subscribe to. It takes me to every corner of North Carolina where i can visit quaint little towns, large cities, "locals" that add that subtle flavor, and it carries my memories, no matter where i go.

Being a native to North Carolina, I can say this magazine is very helpful when planning trips to visit places that sometimes, I didn't even know existed. The articles cover towns in great depth and point out places to stay, dine and browse. The pictures are absolutely beautiful. What a great magazine! IF you like to travel and want to find out of the way, tucked away little places with charm and interest, get this magazine!

Consumer demand for the latest and the greatest, the best and the worst, the fastest and the slowest, has led the bulk of periodical publications down the line of "Best Restaurants!" and "Cheap Eats!" and "Ferrari takes on Porsche!" and "Best Colleges!" Few magazines are written for casual, deliberate reading anymore.

Here's an exception. Certainly the best regional culture periodical I've seen, Our State features history, literature, photography, food, architecture, travel, and education within the (huge!) boundaries of North Carolina. This is not a magazine to buy if you're looking to scan the photographs in 30 seconds and then throw the thing into the fire or the "stack." Articles herein feature the best writers from around the state, and cover subtle topics that will require contemplation and reflection.

Of course, we can't forget the lovely photography, as North Carolina presents the photographer with a treasure of natural and architectural subjects.

Car Craft (1-year auto-renewal)

Car Craft has a nice mix of content some high end feature cars, low buck tech tips and even some humor. They cover old engines, new engines and older cars, but what stops them from hitting five stars is the lack of new platform content. 60s and 70s iron is rare and expensive, and if you are looking for ways cars not from that era, there is precious little car content. Newer engine information is present in spades, and there is still plenty of excellent general technical advice that all enthusiasts will appreciate, so it is worth the subscription price. Finally, Car Craft brings some irreverence that is sets it apart from other publications and helps keep it light and fun.

I've been a Car Craft subscriber for the past 5 years and have had an opportunity to review some of the older issues as well and I have enjoyed them all.

They tend to have a nice mix of interesting new products, well done cars, engine/body tech, and other interesting articles. They covered the LA street racing scene recently and it was a great article. I'm a big fan of their junkyard crawl section (which unfortunately has been missing from the last couple of issues!) done by Steve Magnante, the walking car knowledge encyclopedia of Barrett Jackson fame.

My favorite thing about Car Craft is that they give you a great rundown of what is actually in a car for components. As I build my own muscle car projects, I want to know what others are using in their cars. I find that specific information about components in a car is missing from other mags, but not CC.

I have only two minor quibbles with the magazine. First is that I am a Mopar guy at heart and find that Car Craft sometimes devotes a bit too much space to Chevys, especially Novas and Camaros. However, I can always appreciate a nice car and I still enjoy articles about nice/interesting examples of those models. Second is that they do a lot of coverage of West Coast shows and meet and greets, but little to nothing from the East Coast. I realize that they live on the West Coast, though, so they can only cover what is around them, but its still a bummer for an East Coast guy...

I must disagree with anyone who calls it Car Crap. Each and every issue which I receive gets read cover to cover within a few days of receiving it and I bet you will find the same phenomenon occurs when you subscribe to it as well!

This is a fun, informative magazine. I enjoy reading it and getting the info on how to upgrade my Mustang. This is good since they don't focus only on Mopar or Chevy or Mustang.
