This magazine has gone from a unique, wonderful and one-of-a-kind magazine to a forgettable, can't-decide-on-a-style, vehicle for the over-blown ego of deMontravel, its self-involved-gotta-have-my-hand-in-every-article editor. I had saved every single issue of this magazine from the late 90's until it's demise under her "leadership".

What used to stand out was the uniquely identifiable shabby chic style. Lots of pink and roses may not appeal to many, but to those who love the look, we had found our "niche" publication. Now it is merely a mash-up of all the other decorating, craft and recipe magazines. There are already plenty of those type of magazines out there for those who want them. For die-hard Romantic Homes Magazine fans, the "how to make a valentine" and "new ways to cook beans" articles are completely out of place!

There are thousands of people who have turned away from this once-gorgeous publication that are just waiting for deMontravel's last day, hoping to have the OLD ROMANTIC HOMES MAGAZINE BACK.

Thanks for giving me a forum to vent here. If only RH online site would take feedback or allow readers' to write letters to the editor online, they would be buried in letters just like this one. But, even for those who take the time to write "snail mail", the chances of having their letter published is slim to none. It is obvious they screen out 99% of the critical "cancel my subscription" letters.

So I say SAVE ROMANTIC HOMES MAGAZINE! Dump deMontravel & her clique. Bring back the romance, roses and lace. I'll take a 5 year subscription!

I've loved this magazine since a teenage girl. My mom and I would pore over every isssue and save them all. However, I have been disappointed lately with all the changes. It's just not the same. I have not renewed my subscription because I don't want to waste my money on a magazine of which I only like two pages. I will only buy off the newsstand so as to be sure of liking the issue. I still have all the old issues and read them over and over. I miss the old Romantic Homes!

First, I've bought the magazine just about every months (for 6 months) but I liked it so much that I've decided to subscribe for it.

If you are into the shabby, cottage, romantic home decoration then you gonna love it!

I must tell you that the pictures are sooo inspirational, that when I put the magazine down I can't resist the urge to decorate and come up with great ideas! However these fabulous homes/shops futured in the magazine look very expensive, cost lots of bucks to put together! If you have planty of $$, then it's not a problem but the average person doesn't. So that's the time to get creative! I'd say get the decorator books out too, that will help!

Personally I dont' pay too much attention for the articles since about 80% of the time the Shop/Home owners only talking about how much they like to live/work in their great romantic cottage environment, which designer helpd them to get the look or which part of Europe they flew to purchase that chandalier and so on...but not a word of advice about decorating!

The other 20% of the time you get designers, or other people talking about THE look, etc. that is useful. There's also a great list of websides at the back of the magazine where you can shop on line or at one of the first pages quite often a few beutiful object futured (sometimes it's even affordable)!

There are not too many adds here, like in other magazines that sometimes you can't find the end of the article..so that's a big + too!

I have enjoyed reading Romantic Homes for many years, but lately the style of the magazine has changed. Once you could count on every issue for romantic, whimsical, and lovely decorating and gardening ideas. The 2007 issues, however, have a very muddled style some articles/photo spreads are starkly modern, or downright pretentious. The Romantic Homes company itself has TERRIBLE customer service. The customer service representatives I've spoken to on the phone barely speak English, and are unable to perform simple tasks like an address change. Letters written to the customer service department receive no response at all. Romantic Homes is definitely not worth my money anymore.

Civil War Courier

As an avid Civil War fan and reinactor, I like following all the latest news on the Civil War front. You would be surprised at how much news, articles, stories, book reviews, and latest developments there are on a war that came to a finish well over a century ago. For those of us that still have a strong interest in this tragic but always fascinating time in our nations history, a modern up to date newsletter is a very interesting periodical to have arriving every month in your mailbox. Civil War Courier is one of two such newsletters available for subscription on Amazon currently. The "Courier" and "Civil War News". Having had a subscription to both in the past, I decided to opt for the Courier. It just seems to have a slight edge in its diversity of subjects in my opinion over the CW News. (Plus the Courier is published every month, the News skips one month). I really enjoy this finely written and very informative news letter magazine. And I like the fact that it comes every month. I did take one star off for the Courier can be a little thin at times, (not every month), and I can sometimes run through all its articles and such in less than 20 minutes. But overall I feel it is well worth the price being asked for a yearly subscription. It is always interesting, diverse and up to date, and one of the very few ways that one can keep up on the newest current events, opinions, and discoveries on what is probably the most fascinating chapter of Americas memoirs..... Recommended.

Qi : Journal of Traditional Eastern Health & Fitness

Excellent journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Taijiquan, Qigong, Asian health & longevity promotion, and all things Qi. Good reference for Internal stylists, whether Taijiquan, Baguazhang, or Hsing-I.

I can't say it is the best magazine on the subject as i haven't found others that i can compare it to.

Never the less i would recommend it to others as a top rate magazine.

Art in America

I have been reading Art in America for the past two years. I intend to subscribe to it forever because it is excellent in its review of gallery and museum exhibitions as well as new books on art. Interviews with "art people"--such as collectors, curators, and artists--are entertaining and generally well written. My only complaint is that it is shoddily copy edited (if copy edited at all); I often find terms misused and/or misspelled. The pictures are glorious.

Art in America is an essential guide to art happening anywhere, not just in America; it is scholarly, prosaic and comrehensive. Even if you skip the sometimes overly-serious, jargon-heavy writing, as an image base source it is indispensable, especially if you don't live in New York. I save every issue.

So many magazines are falling out of print due to lack of readers and increasing ease to read online. Some publications go from my first read to the recycling bin, but not so with ART IN AMERICA. Articles are rather interesting, the pictures are glorious, and I have yet to dispose of a copy. It's a pleasure to read about art, artists, critics, galleries and collectors, all in a concise format. I will admit that I do not read each article, but I scan each issue and find myself returning to a particular article I may have skipped after a memory is triggered. I also enjoy the feel of the paper because it is not so heavy as to weigh down the magazine, but it holds up well to page turning and storage. I recommend this magazine to lovers of art who want to increase their visual literacy.

I received a request to re-subscribe before I had received the first issue! The first issue does give a great survey of contemporary sculpture. Unlike other publications, it is taking me a while to get through the issue--lots to read and view. If each issue is like this, I will likely re-subscribe when it is time to do that.

I am not an artist but I do a fair amount of collecting and viewing of the arts. This is a nice twist from the everyday magazines and gives a first hand view into great artists, collections, news, and historical relevance of all forms of global art.

I saw the other review talk about not enough subscribersI would hate to see this leave the world for not enough subscriptions.

I gift magazines subscriptions frequently because I love how they can inspire my loved ones month after month ( and they are a low cost gift).

I will frequently gift one at a unique turning point in someones life. This is one I love for art students, collectors, artists, and designers.

It does have in-depth articles that can get a little professor-ish BUT the splendid pictures are delish!

Overall this publication has a grown-up and solid feel.

Try something new. It may inspire you to start visiting more artists.

FYI, as of Feb. 2010, it's $50 cheaper to just subscribe from the adage website.

Advertising Age gives you a birds-eye view of what's happening in the world of advertising and marketing. A good amount of news, trends, and other information is packed into dozens of small blurbs, sidebars, and page-long articles. While I enjoy the content, I have two complaints. The physical format is in-between a newspaper and magazine meaning it is printed on glossy paper and staple bound on the left edge, but it is large and floppy. The other annoying feature is the number of articles that start on the first few pages but are continued somewhere in the back.

Bell'Italia is an Italian-language magazine that is to be read and savored and then saved for when you actually get to visit the areas described. The photos and the narratives are excellent and they highlight not just those cities that are famous but those places that many tourists never get to see and that are just as deserving. Moreover, in the more famous cities like Venice and Florence, the places presented are often those that do not get much notice. In addition, the magazine highlights those restaurants and events in the area that will make the visit even more exciting. I have been a faithful subscriber for the past 6 years and never miss an issue!

This is an incredibly beautiful magazine. Be patient waiting for your first copy. It did take the full 12 weeks to receive. It is totally worth the wait.

Bell'Italia is a publication providing in-depth reviews of various things Italian with outstanding photography. Note that it IS in Italian (there was an English version which was never as good and, I believe, has sputtered out of existence). We picked up our first copy in the Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Rome and entered a subscription not long afterward.

This is not an inexpensive publication as it comes to just about $10.00 an issue as shipped to the US (and watch those foreign transaction fees your credit card company may impose). The quality of the magazine makes it worthwhile, and the packaging is outstanding (cardboard shipping container). On the rare occasions when an issue has been damaged (or lost), an email to the publisher has resulted in replacements being immediately sent. The issues are all 'keepers' (much to the chagrin of our shelf space).

One thing which would make this resource much more useful would be the publication of a comprehensive index (ideally online). A few years back, a printed index was included with an issue that helps, but, of course, stops at that point in time. I have corresponded a couple of times with the publisher about this, but, so far, no easily-accessible index.

If you are interested in Italy and have some command of the language then this is an entertaining and useful publication.
