I really like this magazine. They balance educational articles, recipes, and lifestyle articles so well. Sometimes in reading similar articles they are often filled with advertisements that swallow the articles. This magazine balances everything so well.

This magazine often features educational articles about new treatments and new medicines. I like that they are less biased than what you would see in a pharmacutical publication. Recipes are simple, and very tasty. I also like that they give many different lifestyle suggestions for dealing with diabetes.

I feel this publication does well with the treatment of pre-diabetes, type I, and type II, very well. It offers a balance of articles that all patients should be able to walk away with quality information. I would encourage people to try this magazine if they are dealing with this disease, or if your family deals with this disease. It simply does an exceptional job of going over treatments and changes in lifestyle that you can make. Diabetes is a serious disease, and being educated about the condition ensures that you give yourself better care.

Diabetes forecast is a widelyread magazine that caters to those who suffer from this annoying disease. Distributed by the American Diabetes Association, this publication contains all sorts of advice and official information on ways to cope with diabetes, lessen its effects, and get the most out of life.

I am not diabetic myself, but I still pick up and read this magazine on occasion. I like to find out about the progress toward finding cures and other medical research and Diabetes Forecast excels in these areas. It discusses medical breakthroughs, legislation, drugs, etc., that could be important to diabetic sufferers and the families that support them. I like these news articles best because the search for a cure is the most important diabetic concern to me. I have seen too many people suffer from diabetes and struggle to live a normal life. I like reading the legal sections and other departments most because it is here that I get the greatest sense of satisfaction; knowing that progress toward a cure is being made, even though it is far slower than most would prefer.

When Diabetes Forecast isn't talking about cures and legal issues, it is offering advice. The advice can be anything from proper diet to insulin usage to better exercise. The advice offered in this magazine is intended for diabetics, but much of it can apply to anyone. The articles on physical fitness, for example, are useful to all. The recipes can also be beneficial to anyone since they feature greattasting food dishes that would be acceptable to any person who appreciates good eating.

Diabetes Forecast offers a pleasant surprise to many readers: It is a very optimistic publication. This may come as a surprise to those who have never read this magazine. I admit, when I first heard about this magazine, I assumed it would contain sad, tragic stories of loss and general ill health. However, the magazine maintains a very optimistic edge. The people who share their personal stories in this magazine are determined to win the battle against diabetes. They do not intend to let it stand in the way of reaching important goals. They are bound and determined to beat this disease.

I have purchased these magazines before, and found them instructional, eye-apealing, and usually read them cover to cover. Step-by-step instructions, and plenty of color pictures. Each issue has something new. Definitely worth the money. I am a self-taught artist, and have found insightful ways of practicing through this mag. It covers a range of mediums and methods, and normally has a special section of artwork from various artists. A valuable tool for any artist:)

The Artist's Magazine is full of advice and ideas for anyone studying or teaching art; from its first monthly department, "Dialogue", which is a question and answer column from readers, to the final page "Master Class", which gives the history and analysis of a famous work, you will get articles that cover many techniques and media, as well as guidelines on the business side of art.

Taking the March 2003 issue as an example, the cover story is on the exquisite gouache paintings of Daniel K. Tennant. One of the four works pictured is broken down and shown in six stages, from the initial layout to the final delicate details.

Artist Joseph Frassetta explains his technique in "Reining it In", and tells us what materials and tools he uses to create his realistic portraiture and animal studies.

There is another article on landscape painting through the four seasons, and others on doing a self-portrait, mixing the use of colored pencils, and so much more. Some favorite monthly articles are "Art Clinic" and "Technical Q&A", which always have useful tips.

The magazine has medium weight paper, good color reproduction, and teachers and students, especially of a traditional style of art, will find much to enjoy and learn in every issue.

I've enjoyed this magazine for years and have the habit of keeping all issues because they never fail to possess something of proven value. It's top-notch for getting great ideas and quality advise on anything pertaining to art. Like any other magazine, it gives you a dose of advertising, but it's not incredible over done.

Subjects range from portrait/self-portrait to landscape, still life and abstract design. But it doesn't end there; this magazine details style diversities from all across the board. Offering examples for improving techniques in various mediums, but generally pencil, watercolor, pastel, oil and acrylic. And no matter what the area or medium you specialize in, you'll be able to pick up handy tips in every issue. Sections of interest regularly highlight a specific tool or technique idea. Inform readers on market issues and other important business concerns. As well as provide interesting articles on artists and a little news and awareness of art related events. Whether you are a novice or a pro, this magazine is a must. It is not overly technical and it features a variety of media. I am a faithful reader and I frequently commend it to others. My only gripe is the inconsistency of writing. Some articles are little more than glorified captions for a few photographs of an artist's work. Other articles do an excellent job of explaining what the artist did to get the wonderful effect displayed in the photographs of the artwork. I'm more interested in technique than the artist's background and training. All in all, though, buy it you'll like it.

Cosmopolitan (1-year auto-renewal)

After casually flipping through Cosmo while waiting in line at the grocery store when I was in college, I finally decided to subscribe, and boy did I regret it. I was hoping to enjoy Cosmo as my monthly guilty pleasure, but what I got was an incredibly banal reading experience. The fashion, hair, and skin tips are not bad, but similar advice can easily be found in several better magazines.

Cosmo however, became a cultural staple because of the promise of its cover teasers. Yet, for anyone over the age of 16, the articles that these teaser headlines offer are uninformative and generally useless. By the third month of my subscription I realized that if you read one issue of Cosmo, you really don't need to read another one. They are all the same! Cosmo masquerades as an empowering lifestyle magazine for fashionable women in their 20s, but as a woman in that demographic, I found this magazine to be a colossal bore of recycled (not to mention really prosaic) sex-tips and retrograde advice that will set women back a good forty years. Needless to say, I did not renew my subscription. Currently, I subscribe to Glamour, Marie Claire, and m Elle and I am more satisfied with the overall content of these magazines.

This was my "first" grown-up girl magazine and I still share a fondness for it and usually buy it at least three or four times a year. My guess is in order to keep the cover price down, the mag is trying to cut corners on other importent areas like--paper quality. The magazine is printed on a lower quality paper than most--decreasing its' durability and readability. Also, let's face it--some of the writing is just not up to the same level of many competing magazines. The articles seem repetitive, simple-minded and without a lot of useful information. Let's hope the "old gal" gets a quality "face-lift" and soon.

My girlfriend loves Cosmopolitan, so as a present I bought her a subscription to the magazine. The magazine itself is good and entertaining, but I'm very disappointed by the fact that both times I ordered it (once from Amazon, once direct from their website) it arrived via mail up to a couple of weeks after it had already hit grocery store shelves. I would expect that if you order a subscription you'd be able to get the magazine before, or at least at the same time that it hits store shelves. Like I said, my girlfriend loves reading Cosmo, but I just can't recommend a magazine which might arrive so late regularly for you, as it does for me.

If you've read one "Cosmo", you've read them all. Do yourself a favor and check out "Glamour" and "Self" you'll walk away happy, inspired, and hunting down the mailman for the next month's issue.

This is a ridiculous "bargain." They compensate for the discount by making the subscriber wait weeks after each monthly issue hits the stands. As I recall, being a subscriber entitled one to either receive mags slightly earlier than when they hit the stands or at the every least the same time they hit the stands. I do not plan on renewing.

Prospect - England

'Prospect' is a relatively new British public affairs magazine. In its 'About Us' page it speaks about being 'more readable than the Economist, more romantic than the 'Spectator' etc. Its aim is to be the foremost intellectual current affairs journal in Britain.

I recommend the magazine for long, outstanding articles a recent example of is Richard Reeves on John Stuart Mill. He shows in this article the complexity of Mill's positions, his integrity, his determination to make 'ideas' serve a practical human purpose.

In the course of it he cites Mill's famous principle,"The only purpose for which power can rightfully be exercised over any member of a civilised community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others."

I suspect no harm will be done to any reader, by from time to time reading some of the finer pieces in this journal.

Louisiana Cookin' (1-year auto-renewal)

I picked this up when I was visiting Louisiana and wow. The photos are great and make my mouth water every time. There are clear directions, lots of recipes, not too many ads and interesting articles all about Louisiana Food and cooking food that you might eat in Louisiana.

The price seems high but I have renewed my subscription for several years now. That is how much I like this magazine. This is one of the favorite magazines I get now.

I will be honest, if you do not like the type of food you might find in Louisiana (Gumbo, shrimp, oysters, crabs, spicy food etc) then you will not like this magazine. It is dedicated entirely to Louisiana Food.

Also, some of the ingredients might not be what you would consider normal in a household other than one in Louisiana (boudan, andoullie sausage etc) but if you look a bit you can find those ingredients and it is worth the search to make some of the recipes in this magazine.

Well worth the money.

I have been receiving this magazine for a few years since I moved out of the south. I read every page of it and the only problem that I have is trying to get the ingredients for the recipies up here in the frosty north.

I've been a longtime subscriber, and the recipes are definitely worthwhile. However, in these economic times, the price no longer justifies maintaining the subscription. The latest $19.95 price is appealing; I've paid the full $25 in the past -but we're talking only 6 issues a year, folks.

There are also too many "sponsored" recipes (i.e., from groups like the Louisiana Sweet Potato Commission). I'm no longer feelin' the love.
