Railpace Magazine

Railpace MagazineNot only do I really like Railpace but my wife reads every issue as soon as it arrives. I literally have to try and race home quickly to get it out of the mailbox first if I don't want to be behind her on the reading, and she's not a train-nut. We both enjoy the information of local interest (we live in PA) but we've also found the photography and information about the Boston area and others that we don't travel to to be outstanding and informative. Each issue is packed with tons and tons of great photography, outstanding news items, as well as information about upcoming train shows or special passenger trains.

I was getting Trains magazine for a while, but it is too much geared to the industry of trains, like if you happen to own a railroad or worked for one. I don't, I'm just a guy who likes to ride a few trains a year and maybe go watch one pass by at the local crossing and now I can stay on top of all of the things going on in my area. But even if you're more involved and actually track trains, this magazine is for you, too.

A few times there has even been coverage of the same story in both Trains and Railpace. For example, the Baldwins that run in NJ. The Trains article was brief, but the Railpace coverage had 5-times the photos and way more text about the operation, not to mention maps and other unique information.

Railpace is outstanding in its historical coverage as well. There are often articles on a branch line or a junction and Railpace prints rare photos showing how things were configured years ago and contrasting that to today's operations. It is great to learn the history this way.

An overall outstanding magazine if you live anywhere in the North East US and have any interest in trains at all.

If you are into railroading on the East Coast of the USA it is tough to beat this magazine. Picture heavy with great maps and news articles/info that you won't find in any other rairoading magazine. Photos and news covers roughly from Virginia to New England, Eastern Canada and Ohio. Highly reccomended!

Artforum International

Artforum InternationalAs of December 29, 2010 you can receive a one year subscription to Artforum for $39.00, and that comes with a free year's worth of Bookforum (like Artforum except about books). I signed up for 2 years for $75.00 ($37.50/year). They also said they would "rush" out the November 2010 issue of Artforum for free to all new subscribers.

5 stars because the magazine is great, but definitely buy directly from them instead of going through Amazon.

Ordered 12/14 @ $52 for 12 issues. Found same 12 issues for $39 right in the printed mag. Although it won't ship frm Amazon for another 4 wks, couldn't cancel & go w/lower rate

I have subscribed to this magazine in the past along with other art periodicals. If you take this magazine and remove the advertisements, you will have 80% of the content gone. There are some good articles. But this magazine has lost its way. I no longer subscribe.

Art & Antiques

Art & AntiquesART & ANTIQUES for collectors of the fine and decorative arts shows considerable growth as a journal. The quality of production values has increased and so has the content. For example, the current issue covers well-written articles ranging from 'The Rise of Sculpture' ('Into the Third Dimension' by Sallie Brady), to 'Chinese Classics', to 'New England Museums' to 'Avant-Garde Toys'. And if that spectrum doesn't appeal to the reader, then open the journal and find excellent in depth beautifully illustrated essays on Leonora Carrington called 'Nobody's Muse' by Edward M. Gómez and a rich article by Editor John Dorfman 'Golden Opportunities' in which he follows trends and sales of Chinese antiquities.

There are articles on current events such as the many art fairs around the world, reviews of art books, and notes on concepts being discussed at this time in the art world. The ads are well constructed and vary from decorative arts resources to contemporary galleries to auction houses. The color reproduction throughout is excellent and the quality of paper is far better than the magazine's competitors. This is a magazine worth investigating as a subscription. Grady Harp, September 11

This great magazine blends articles about antiques and fine art and craft in a way that is accessable to collector and novice alike. The layout is clean and well designed with insightfull but not stuffy text.

I look forward to receiving this magazine. The grade of the paper and the quality of the photos and print is of collectible quality. The articles are very educated and informative. I also enjoy the ads and the auction listings, etc.

JazzTimes Magazine

JazzTimes MagazineEntertaining enough magazine but upon missing delivery of an issue multiple emails to the 'Front Desk' and 'Subscription Department' simply go unanswered and the customer service phone support person never followed through. So, when my subscription expires I'll move on.

I've been a JazzTimes subscriber for many years and it is far and above the premier Jazz book on the market. Superior writers, better coverage, and a design that is much easier on the eyes than their imitators, all make JT a bargain. I even got a free DVD for subscribing. Customer service was polite and helpful when I needed to change my address, and I plan on staying a subscriber for years to come.

Good magazine. Lousy customer service. When subscription ends I'll be looking at another magazine. Currently with Downbeat, no complaints there.

I love Jazz. And I am overwhelmed with paper and magazines in the house. So I have attempted on multiple occasions to let my subscription run out. It never works. I always end up renewing. I just love the music reviews and the occasional articles about an artist.

I recently subscribed to JazzTimes. I had visited their website regularly, and I decided to receive the hard copy magazine. I like their mix of coverage of the established stars and the up-and-comers. They have some great contributors (Nat Hentoff, Gary Giddins). I like their wide-ranging disc review section. There is so little Jazz on the radio now we need to find the new Jazz grooves through the Internet and magazines like JazzTimes.
