Reminisce

ReminisceI really enjoy this magazine . . . when it arrives. The delivery seems sporadic at best, even when you consider it is printed only 7 times yearly.

The writing is primarily done by other readers and the articles are well done and entertaining.

I bought the magazine directly through the publishers website and the same month I purchased the magazine I began getting expiration notices and offers to renew my subscription.

I have had 2 separate subscriptions and neither time have I received all 7 copies.

this is about the gold old times. comes with recipes. full of stories of seniors when they were children. and shows you advertisements from the olden days. great for people that want to go down memory lane or just want to read about it.

I have had trouble with the end date on subscriptions short changing me on both Reminisce and Reminisce Extra on numerous occasions. For example:the correct end date would be Mar 2014 and then it would change to Jan 2014 which is cheating you out of one issue. I called them 3 or 4 times to correct this and they would change the date back to the correct expiration date, and after a few months they would go back to short changing me again. I got tired of being cheated and told them to cancel both magazines.

This is the best magazine out there! I love to read my Cosmo, Allure, Glamour, People and other beauty and Celebrity magazines but it is so nice to just read something wholesome and be transported back in time. Everything is PG rated and all articles and pictures are submitted by readers. Also, unlike other magazines, it can be a magazine for the whole family. I wouldn't say my kids seek it out to read it but I have caught them reading an article or two or studying a picture, asking me questions. My husband loves reading it too! I just wish it came every month!

Where to Retire (1-year auto-renewal)

Where to RetireI'm not sure how much use the average person would get out of this magazine. It is sort of nice to read if you are dreaming about retiring, but the actual information is more extensive and useful on the internet. Try findyourspot.com instead and save the $18 for six issues of advertisements. If you are looking for retirement communities, it might be worth subscribing or just buying one issue at the news stand.

I was hoping for more in-depth articles than what I got here. The towns listed were mostly resort-types, and there was far less on living in regular places where one might retire and live on a fixed income. I think I expected more from "Where to Retire" than I got out of my subscription, so I didn't renew.

This publication seems to focus more on real estate ads than critical reviews of those locations we might be interested in.

I used the subscription for one year.

None of the 'Retirement recommendations' had enough depth, pictures or information.

The articles rarely told you where you could get additional information, and if they did, they usually only listed one source.

The articles do not consistently tell you about the benefits/penalty of retiring in a particular area, as I hoped they would. In other words I wanted to see each article include information about taxes for retirees (do they tax Pensions ? social security? State taxes for those over 65 ? Property tax reductions ? Homestead exemptions ? ...)

If you know what region of the country you are interested in, you might be better off grabbing a couple of regional magazines to help you find locations that fit your needs or meet your criteria. Then do some online research. The retirement suggestions in this magazine are all over the place, and all over the financial budget.

The magazine is filled with lots of sales and advertisements.

If you are 55+ and looking for retirement Villages then you will like this. However, if you are more interested in living in an area outside of a retirement community this is not the magazine for you. One of the features I did enjoy was the breakdown info on a particular city/cities, such as average income, demographics, climate, etc.

Vogue Knitting International

Vogue Knitting InternationalI am the husband of a knitter. I am entering this review because the one review posted has nothing to do with the content most subscribers (in US) are seeking. My wife, like most serious knitters, belongs to a knitters group that meets every week. Discussing publications is always a part of any gathering. My observation is that Vogue Knitting International is one of their most appreciated and discussed pubs. Many of their projects come from the pages of this mag. The group, located in Maine, is made up of beginners to advanced and is led by a German knitter. My wife is getting a subscription to this for Xmas because she is always seeking the next issue in all visits to book stores.

Vogue knitting magazine is my favorite knitting magazine. The photos are gorgeous, there are a wide variety of patterns for all abilities, the pattern instructions are very clearly written and easy to follow even on the more advanced patterns and it is enjoyable to just flip through because the photos of the finished patterns are stunning. I have been knitting for about a year and a half and I have successfully knit an intermediate and one advanced pattern from vogue knitting both of which turned out beautifully.

I love that the patterns are not your average stockinette stitch sweater, they are interesting, fashion forward patterns that would appeal to even young teenagers.

I have been subscribed to this magazine for many, many years. I wouldn't give up my subscription. Even if I don't knit from it....it gives me great ideas and suggestions for yarn. It's the best.

So glad I purchased this magazine. I look forward to each new edition. Soon, when I retire, I will start knitting some of the lovely patterns contained in it.

Vogue Knitting International is in my opinion the best knitting magazine on the Market. It's not too far out there with strange designs, but you get a good mixture of quality knitwear designs. I started out by getting subscriptions to other popular knitting magazines, and was disappointed in the lack of quality and the lack of really good designs. So I purchased a copy of Vogue Knitting and was instantly hooked. They have a good range of modern designs, classics, contemporary, and now and again knits with a vintage feel. You will get your money's worth with this magazine.
