Fur Fish & Game - for Schools & Libraries

Most people think that this magazine limits itself to the wild fur trapping industry but they are wrong. Although a good portion of the stories and departments focus on trapping, the excellent fishing, hunting and shooting articles should NOT be overlooked. I find this magazine to be much more appropriate for the average American and Canadian outdoors person. Several do-it-yourself features and inexpensive alternatives give this magazine a realistic touch. Most other magazines seem to cater to whoever advertises on their pages but FFG seems to care about the readers success. If I had to choose only one outdoor sporting magazine this would be it!

This is NOT just a trapping magazine. It has articles of interest to anyone interested in woodsmanship. I started reading FFG back in the 60's as a farm boy. Many a stormy winter's day was spend with my nose buried in a FFG magazine, learning things that I could apply as soon as I got back outdoors. Aimed more toward the rural, blue collar, and real woodsman segment of outdoor magazine readers. Very practical, useful stuff that won't cost you an arm and a leg to implement, and won't take a Ph.D to understand. I love this magazine.

Fur Fish and Game is one of my favorite outdoor magazines. Between the helpful hints, articles on game you can actually hunt, and their very readable articles, it's a bargain.

The magazine reminds me of a simpler time both in my life and in America. It's a piece of Americana, and I'm amazed the magazine has remained true to it roots over the years. Even though my life has gotten much busier over the years, this is one magazine I look forward to reading.

Soccer Three Sixty Magazine

Okay, it's missing that one star to make it five stars simply because it's not "up to date" as the other review mentioned. But I don't think it's supposed to inform you of every weeks' games it is a bi-monthly magazine, so that's what you should expect. It still offers in depth articles on individual players, teams, coaches, etc. My husband would rather read about soccer game results online, yet this subscription made the best gift ever for my nephew who is just now becoming a soccer fan he knows more than my husband about the lives and current decisions of some soccer players. That's simply what this mag is all about the explanations and analysis of coach/player decisions, moves, mistakes and wins. All said, it's not bad...

Unable to evaluate at this time--have not received the magazine yet.... was informed there would be a several month delay and they will start sending magazine in February 2013.... very disappointing as this was a gift item we expected to receive on a more timely basis.

not bad but I glanced at this magazine at the store and I really didn't notice anything special it is way overpriced and besides there r alot of great websites that will give ya up to date news and not last months news maybe if it was alot cheaper even if probably still wouldn't get it

Horse Backstreet Choppers

The Horse features real world builds done by talented folks who are often not professional builders. You won't find the 1% wannabe if-it-ain't-a-Harley-it-ain't-wortha-S**t focus seen in most other chopper publications. It also doesn't cover those unridable billion dollar 'all-show and no-go' glitter monsters.

What you will find is an esoteric mix of reader-submitted builds utilizing Hondas, HDs, Yamahas, Triumphs, etc. You can even see WW-II era Urals brought back to life as Russian bobbers.

Yeah, it's a little spendy when compared to other bike mags because they aren't raking in the big advertising bucks from the bolt-on, after-market chrome crowd. If you are a grease covered, torch and sawzall creative type who loves motorcycles,forget all those other rags, THIS is the publication for you.

This rag does a great job covering all bikes. They are all about chopping bikes(hence the name) I wish i had been turned on to them long ago. They cover foreign and domestic bikes. What they also believe strongly in is a billet barge is dumb. I also agree. This is for people who work for a living and work on their bikes. You don't have to be Indian Larry's little cousin to know what they are talking about. And there is always an article about how to hack something.

One thing that seems to be not too great about it is the guys writing editorials. One guy hates the world and gets paid to dribble the same story every month. And then there's the guy who goes on a trip through Europe it seems like every year. But doesn't say anything other than "I am getting paid to do this by you, thanks for subscribing". Which gets annoying. All in all I love the mag though. And both of those guys seem great, I would love to hang out with them, they just don't have any competition so they don't go too far out there in the realm of quality writing.

All in all dont use that as an excuse to not buy it. I just don't want to write a review saying the rag is perfect, it isn't. But it is the best out there by a mile.

This is it. Choppers that resemble the working man's desire to create cool one off pieces of moto art that actually will make it cross country if needed. No floofy, over done, chrome plated packages of P.O.S.'s that you see every bike night at Applebee's with a content owner proudly wearing his brand new HD jacket and full leather's on a 80 degree evening. Nope. Not here. What you get is inspiration at it's truest form for dyed in the wool, custom motorcycle fiends. This magazine amazes me every issue and can give anyone hope of making thier own scoot a reflection of themselves and the lives they lead through countless hours of fabrication and dedication. Long live GTP and the staff at The Horse!!!

This is a good mag if you want to see pics of home-built rides.

Pro: Not all HDs...Good mix of import bikes too. Nobody trying to make their bikes look like a F'n dragon or spiderman or some other crap.

Con: Zero tech info on the bikes or useful how-to articles. Just a bunch of stories about dudes "livin to ride" and gayin' it up calling each other "bro" and givin out man hugs, high fivin' and bumpin' knuckles.

The Trail Rider (1-year)

I ride strictly for pleasure and mostly on trails. I like to know about training my horse for the trails and what areas of the country have wonderful trails so this magazine is my favorite horse magazine out of the 4 I receive each month. I bought my horse as a young foal and trained him a lot from the ground, exposing him to things I saw in this magazine so when he was old enough, he would be a great trail horse. No regrets here. The trainer kept him 45 days and marveled at how easy he was to train.

Other great horse magazines in my mind are the Horse Journel, John Lyon's Perfect Horse, Horse Illustrated and Horse and Rider and through them, I stay up to date on training, products and horse care. just kinda a mediocre magazine, low quality paper, content is boring, graphics are boring, nothing in the issues that make me want to keep them beyond the first flip through. There are others that are better.

Vogue Knitting International

I am the husband of a knitter. I am entering this review because the one review posted has nothing to do with the content most subscribers (in US) are seeking. My wife, like most serious knitters, belongs to a knitters group that meets every week. Discussing publications is always a part of any gathering. My observation is that Vogue Knitting International is one of their most appreciated and discussed pubs. Many of their projects come from the pages of this mag. The group, located in Maine, is made up of beginners to advanced and is led by a German knitter. My wife is getting a subscription to this for Xmas because she is always seeking the next issue in all visits to book stores.

Vogue knitting magazine is my favorite knitting magazine. The photos are gorgeous, there are a wide variety of patterns for all abilities, the pattern instructions are very clearly written and easy to follow even on the more advanced patterns and it is enjoyable to just flip through because the photos of the finished patterns are stunning. I have been knitting for about a year and a half and I have successfully knit an intermediate and one advanced pattern from vogue knitting both of which turned out beautifully.

I love that the patterns are not your average stockinette stitch sweater, they are interesting, fashion forward patterns that would appeal to even young teenagers.

I have been subscribed to this magazine for many, many years. I wouldn't give up my subscription. Even if I don't knit from it....it gives me great ideas and suggestions for yarn. It's the best.

Vogue Knitting International is in my opinion the best knitting magazine on the Market. It's not too far out there with strange designs, but you get a good mixture of quality knitwear designs. I started out by getting subscriptions to other popular knitting magazines, and was disappointed in the lack of quality and the lack of really good designs. So I purchased a copy of Vogue Knitting and was instantly hooked. They have a good range of modern designs, classics, contemporary, and now and again knits with a vintage feel. You will get your money's worth with this magazine.

Reader's Digest (2-year)

This publication isn't what it used to be. I am 32 years old and for my entire (yes entire) life my family has subscribed to the Reader's Digest. It is the perfect ahem... restroom reading material because it contains short, well written stories that are either amusing, thought provoking, heart warming (or a combination of all three).

Now, every other page literally is an advertisement for a pharmaceutical product of some kind. The first thing I do when I receive my monthly copy is I rip out the ads. In doing so I'm usually left with LESS THAN HALF of the pages I started with. I feel like I'm paying for a monthly subscription to pharmaceutical ads. "Now, That's Outrageous!"

I'm so sad and disappointed. I won't be renewing my subscription next year and I feel like I've lost a lifelong friend. I hope my review helps you in your decision.

First off, I agree with what others have said about too many ads. That's partly what is keeping me from renewing it.

Overall..if it weren't for the ads, I would continue to enjoy this magazine because I love the humor, easy reading stories, information, etc.

However...when my subscription ends they keep calling and calling and CALLING me about renewing. Or saying "We hope you are enjoying your subscription to Readers Digest"..(when I'm not subscribed anymore). I tell them no, I'm not going to renew..the next day I come home with three calls on my answering machine from them. This is not a one time occurrence either.

The magazine itself is good. However I think they should either lower the price or drop some of the ads.

RD does have some interesting consumer & finance articles, but it has waa-a-a-y too many ads. I would never actually pay for it, but I do get a subscription as a gift every year. I end up ripping half the magazine's weight out in ads and no, that's not "just life" as some other reviewer said, it's downright shameful.

Also, make sure you get on the RD website and change your privacy preferences; like other second-rate companies who like to abuse customers, they implicitly assume you want to be spammed by them and have them rent your information out to third parties.

I've always loved this magazine, but I completely agree with the other reviewers... not ONLY are there entirely too many ads, but they make a FORTUNE selling your information. I was completely shocked at the amount of junk mail that started POURING in after I first subscribed to Reader's Digest. They should be ashamed of themselves. I do enjoy reading it, but refuse to renew out of principle.

I bought this subscription to Readers Digest here at Amazon in January 2011 and didn't receive mt first issue until March 2011. Started getting renewal letters in with my magazine about 2 months ago and got to wondering when my subscription was ending? I looked here at Amazon and it says March 2013 which is correct then I looked at the label on my magazine and it says November 2012. What's going on here that is a 4 month difference in what I paid for and what I am actually receiving. So I contacted Amazon about this and they promptly shuffled me off to Readers Digest (Thanks Amazon)who gave me a song and dance story about how the May issue was a special issue and it was so much bigger that it counted as 2 issues. Well I pulled out my May issue and it has about 10 extra pages compared to the other issues. so shame on you Readers Digest for trying to rip off consumers and an even bigger shame on you Amazon for not standing behind what you are selling.
