E - The Environmental Magazine (1-year auto-renewal)

E is a publication I recognize for its solid reporting on key issues. But most importantly, it is the independence of the solid, in-depth special reports that is most valuable to me and my fellow environmentalists.

Not found in E are the typical political grunts and trite statements. I do not feel I am reading a political manefesto, or degrading my life by reading E. Just as important, when passing it on to others, I do not feel that I am an extension of some action group, but know that what I pass on is solid, quality reporting that take into account all sides of an issue. In addition to the solid reporting on an issue, E has expanded so every issue contains information on personal health, Green travel with a nice section on Green Investing that I found is truly effective for me.

Overall I give E four stars for content and ADD a star for remianing indpendent of "in-your-face" commentary. A true Time magazine quality for the environmentally concerned.

I've been a subscriber of E Magazine (which stands for The Environmental Magazine) for over a year now and I love it. It is, by far, the best environmentally oriented magazine I've come across. All of the ads are for environmentally-friendly companies and products, I now purchase products at at least 50% of the places advertised in this magazine. E Magazine covers topics all over the world, including global warming, horse meat (popular in Europe), whaling, deforestation, etc. If you are concerned or interested in environmental issues, I would highly recommend a subscription to this magazine. E MAGAZINE is chocked full of everything the intelligent resident of Earth needs to know, from "rainforests to recycling" and the "personal to the political." Published bimonthly by the Earth Action Network, each edition contains thorough reports on key environmental issues and trend, consumer product updates, food and environmental health issues, commentary from leading thinkers and doers, and coverage of major events and conferences.

I've been looking for a good Environmental Magazine to get since I am an Environmental Science major in college and would like to have a lot of environmental news in one place to read without reading it on the computer. This does the job aptly and is very informative in different aspects of the environment. From wildlife, to home improvements, to environmental history, to health, to environmental policies in other countries. Even the ads are 100% environmentally related! Definitely worth receiving.

I gave this magazine as a gift, and also received a subscription as a gift. I can't tell...is it the packaging? The ho-hum articles? I don't know. I had such high hopes for a great-quality magazine that would increase my environmental awareness and encourage me in my small attempt to live green. Alas, I've been disappointed and I won't renew.

Russian Life

Russian Life provides a fascinating mix of articles in each issue on things reasonably related to Russia. Some stories cover current events, others delve into recent and ancient history.

All articles are very well illustrated and are written at a level that can appeal to both the casual and the dedicated Russophile. I enjoy the magazine on one level, and my Russian born wife enjoys it on a very different level, with the main point in common being that we both read it from cover to cover.

I love the short little factoids that they also include each issue, and even find the advertisements interesting!

Lastly, they have an annual Russian calendar that I've been buying in copious quantities each year excellent for personal use and for gifts! A great magazine from a great company, and about a once-great and potentially great-again country.

I love this magazine. I have spent a lot of time studying and working in Russia and this magazine serves as a wonderful link for me to this amazing country, it's language and culture!

My wife and I really look forward to each new issue of Russian Life. My wife is Russian and I really enjoy learning about Russian culture. This magazine always has an interesting mix of articles that has helped to expand my understanding of the Russian culture and even my wife has learned a few new things. They cover everything from Russian history to religion to fairy tales and beyond. If you are even the slightest bit interested in Russia and its history, you won't be let down by this publication.

This magazine has so much interesting information! I try to keep up with Russian culture and I love the little slices of history and language that are added in. Those are the building blocks for all the changes Russians have already accomplished and what they hope for the future. I have been a subscriber for many years!

Atlanta Magazine (1-year automatic renewal)

This is a beautifully designed and produced magazine. Well written too, with interesting articles and features (so far in 3 issues). Particularly bearing in mind it is a magazine for one city, and not a whole region / state. I have seen good regional magazines in England but never a magazine of such quality for a single city. If you live in or near Atlanta I would say that a subscription to this magazine is a must.

I feel the magazine assumes prior knowledge. We have just moved here from the UK, and it is difficult to get orientated in Atlanta. But then again, it would become a guide book wouldn't it?

Also lot of space is taken up with restaurant reviews, compared to say culture or shopping. If you live in a Metro area and don't visit the center often, that is an awful lot of restaurants to try to sample.

2 minor personal gripes for what really is an excellent magazine.

I love the articles in this magazine. I find them to be interesting and well written. What I hate about this magazine is that it's mostly advertising. I wouldn't pay top dollar for it and wish they'd increase the amount of articles.

Fresh, smart and funny. A good mix of cool style/spa/shopping insider info and serious/substantive articles. Restaurant reviews are intelligent and well-written. Reading the Our Town section can make you an instant ATL insider.

My husband and I have lived in Atlanta for about eight years. We subscribed to Atlanta magazine shortly after moving here and recently re-subscribed after an absence of many years.

I am enjoying the magazine. I feel that the articles are well-written and relevant to my life as an Atlantan, particularly one who lives inside the perimeter. The cover stories are often very topical. For example, it was great to see an in-depth look at the mortgage crisis from a local perspective. Another recent cover story was about "Atlanta's Top Doctors," which definitely provoked some conversation in my social circle. I also appreciate the restaurant reviews. They are concise, informative, and seem aptly critical.

I don't have any major beefs with the magazine, but have noticed a few factual errors. In one issue they confused some statistics between Decatur and Unincorporated DeKalb, a common problem but one that I don't expect to see in a publication with such a large circulation.

I am glad I decided to resubscribe and will probably renew at the end of the year.

I've lived in Atlanta my entire life and Atlanta Magazine still manages to show me parts of the metro area I never knew about (the magazine covers far outside the city limits).
