Banjo Newsletter

Banjo NewsletterAs a newcomer to playing the banjo (< 5 years), I find the Banjo Newletter to be a wealth of information about the 5 string banjo and the various styles. They also review banjo teaching aids (books, CD's, DVD's etc.) as well as recent releases of CD's of interest to the banjo world. Each issue has a large range of articles for all interests, including interviews with musical celebrities, and lots of songs in tablature format. The paper newletter is supplemented with a very robust web site with MP3's that can be downloaded. This is very helpful to hear the timing of various licks. You can also order older newsletters with interviews or songs of interest. All in all, the money for the subscription is money very well spent. The banjo newsletter authors really love their work and it shows! Keep up the excellent newsletter!

I have subscribed to about 40 music magazines in the 43 years I have been playing various instruments. Too many of them have so much stuff that is not about music, that you have to struggle to find something useful. One doesn't care about how some top musician gets along with his wife, dresses himself, or signs contracts with big shots. We care about picking the banjo, setting up the banjo, and finding good music.

That is what BNL specializes in. It has tabulature and music for every kind of banjo player bluegrass to minstrel, beginner to expert. Its interviews focus on real banjo playing issues. I am happy to see articles in it by people whom I actually know and respect as banjoists, dealers, and historians of the music.

It is worth the money!

This has to be the best on-going publication for five string banjo players in the world. If you have a question, it will probably be answered in Banjo Newsletter. Songs, tabs, licks, interviews, tips, tricks, you name it. If it has anything to do with the five string banjo it will be in Banjo Newsletter. Truly a labor of love presented by people who want to see this wonderful part of Americana remain alive and not flushed down the toilet. Highly recommended.

If it is about banjo--Banjo Newsletter has it. Bluegrass, old time, classical, jazz, minstel, gourd--all styles are featured in this magazine. Interviews of artists, builders, historians. Information on festivals, camps, and classified ads. My copies are always on time and this last year--there are now color photos instead of just black and white. The monthly print newsletter is supported by an online page of MP3s of the tablatures in the newsletter.

BNL has an international following and I have made many friends from this contact.

BNL is both a joy and a bargain.

Domus - Italy

Domus - ItalyI have enjoyed every issue of Domus that I've ever seen that's the reason my girlfriend ordered me a subscription for christmas. Now it is almost May, and over four months since the initial order was placed. I have yet to receive my first issue. My girlfriend has called several times, to which Amazon's [normally helpful] staff reply that "it is probably in the mail" and we shouldn't cancel the order. Sheesh! None of the customer service reps have been able to track the order. They claim they will call back, but we don't hear from them.

And what on earth is "please allow 6-8 weeks"?? We have allowed 6-8 weeks for order processing, another 6-8 for delivery. By the time I receive my first issue the featured projects will have been built, published, withered away, and torn down!! Instead of complaining, we should probably cancel our order, but knowing what a great magazine I'll be missing (and how dependable Amazon normally are) makes me believe them and continue to wait.

Domus is without a doubt one of the most beautiful magazines I have ever seen, but Amazon's negligence is damaging to it's credibility. Proceed with caution!!

Why else would we spend so much on a magazine unless we absolutely loved it?

Also, in response to the other review: I've had many problems with the magazine subscriptions through Amazon in the past (we have like 5 with Amazon) but it's all going pretty well now.

Raids - French Edition

Raids - French EditionRAIDS is in French, as I'm sure you're aware. The magazine speaks in a concise style you receive the essentials, without political slant and without noticeable bias. The writing is thorough, the research impeccable.

This is what Soldier of Fortune wishes it was a REAL military magazine, with REAL military and police articles, and without the rantings of wanna-bes long past their prime. You don't get racism, trashy 'journalism' or ads to become a secret private investigator (well, actually, you do on the last one some things are universal).

Yes, it's in French, and it's somewhat expensive. But consider this the Jane's Defense Guide of the military/police magazine rack. It is THE magazine for those interested in actual military/police developments, from a nonbiased source.

Sagewoman Magazine

Sagewoman MagazineI have been receiving this magazine for over 5 years. Every issue is wonderful. It focuses on Goddess based spirituality on all levels...articles are based on a theme per issue and seasonally appropriate. Varied perspectives keep this magazine fresh and always interesting. Articles/stories are brief and easy to read, but can cause pause to make you think. I have shared issues with my Aunt, step-daughter, and even started discussions with my teen boys and 6 year old daughter based on articles written. I thank my Husband for every issue when it arrives (he got tired of going to the bookstore to purchase:).

Flex (1-year auto-renewal)

FlexI like this magazine a lot better than Muscular Development magazine. MD claims to be the biggest magazine, but that's to their disadvantage. MD is too hardcore, but after a while all the articles contain the same content. All of the pages are a lot of the same old stuff. Flex magazine is new and fresh every month. It is a little bit commercialized, but it makes it able to be read by either male or female workout enthusiasts/bodybuilders. It is filled with a lot of unorthodoxed workout routines to help add some spice to a plateauing workout. I used to subscribe to Flex, but switched to see what all the hype was about on all the other magazines. Now I'm back and I would definitely recommend this magazine to anyone who works out.

Flex is a great magazine. I'm not afraid to say it, but what I am afraid to say is that every person in this magazine is on about a thousand dollar a month steroid budget. I liked the training tips given, however, and I think that the routines are well-rounded, and give people much more muscle. If you are an incredibly intense musclehead, then this magazine is for you. If you are intrested in looking good rather then having "sick" biceps then try a magazine like Muscle and Fitness, a more fitness diversified magazine.

I am a tiny female who get this magazine due to the fact these guys KNOW what they are talking about when it comes to training, diet and form. Form is everything and it takes a long time to build a foundation for body building with heavier weights. I have learned more from this mag. than all the women's mags. put together. What works for them will work for me, just use less weights. I have begun training more seriously since I have found all the great info in this mag.

For GUYS, this is a MUST to see what the Big Boys are achieving. Really accurate, invaluable research and info.

Magazine isn't as good as it used to be. They have definitely increased the amount of ad space they use.

Ok so I'll start off by saying this magazine could be great, because of the talent they have signed. But after about 6 issues, and two I didn't receive, which I will touch on later, I realized this magazine was total bull. I have seen so called interview after interview in their magazine contradicted by real life interviews online.

The magazine also tries to push products that have zero effect on your body, but a dent in you wallet, such as no2. No2 is not real, you can't effect that by taking crap in a bottle,.sorry but I went to college, I know better.

The service is garbage. They didn't send me two issues and both times gave me extensions on the magazine, and after the second time that they refused to send me the issue, the Mr Olympia issue mind you, I canceled my subscription.

This is vague but the experience was just bad, while my other magazine comes through every month, and delivers, this one falls well short.

About me, I'm 6'4, 270lbs, been training for 5 years, at 23 I have 4 years college experience which is in multiple fields, including biochemistry. This magazine didn't make sense to me, a natural bodybuilder, who educated himself and have sacrificed so much, you want an education, stay away from this magazine and read some stuff from Dorian Yates, his teachings are great for naturals.

Psychologies - England

Psychologies - EnglandI love this magazine. I have always had a hard time finding it in the states and the last few months can't find it at all. I used to see it occasionally at Walgreen's or Barnes and Noble. I went to Psychologies website to sign up for a subscription and it told me I couldn't in the US. So I almost can't believe I will actually get this. I just ordered today on Amazon and it'll be end of July/August before I get a copy. I'm so excited and pleased to be able to get this again. The articles get right to the point. I find everything about this magazine helpful. Thanks Amazon!!!

Bought my first copy in 2008, and wouldn't think of tossing it anytime soon. Article titles such as: HEAL YOUR PAST-CHANGE YOUR FUTURE, THE SLEEP WELL DIET, FLEX SEX, DR. HEAL YOURSELF, WHAT MAKES YOU TICK?...

I found the entire magazine to be well written, timely and concise with informative and varied topics. Highly recommended.

I picked up this magazine in the Sears Tower lower level magazine and candy shop. It has some extremely good articles with real content and not just "self help material". Yet clear enough for most lay people with literary skills. So glad to see it offered through Amazon, as this UK publication did not have the normal insert for subscriptions. Cannot wait to have my subscription start!

I love this magazine.

It is smart and full of great articles.

Not your typical "woman's magazine".

Totally worth the cost.

Great to get it through Amazon since it is had to find.
