Knives Illustrated

Knives Illustrated"The first issue should arrive in 6-10 weeks." I got mine in 9 weeks, that is quite a wait.

The magazine seems "retro" in looks and feel. Blade Magazine has more pictures and articles. There seems to be a bias to advertisers products in the articles.

I did notice this in Knives' Illustrated.

Wished they would print an issue every month, but at first I was disappointed(I'm used to reading BLADE which is outstanding) and not up-and-up with some articles, but a few did interest me, but the articles that interested me were about swords!!!

I've only got one issue so far, another should be on it's way.

I did noticed the "closed in" feel, it's just not as open as BLADE magazine is. Just look at their knife show calender, not too many small shows, and most are huge and highly affiliated somehow with Knives Illustrated. There seems to be more of "pleasing the upper management" of the Publishers with Knives' Illustrated. It's the only alternative to Blade, and will I resubscribe? Yes while it isn't as good as BLADE, it's interesting and you will learn something.

It is a little pricey, but if you don't mind the cost, it is worth the money. Full of pics and information. Some issues are better than others depending on your interest. I like knives and enjoy viewing what is being done in the knife world.

Dog Fancy (1-year auto-renewal)

Dog FancyI have been getting this magazine since 1986, and enjoy every issue. It is always packed full of useful information on dogs. It not only covers the purebred dogs, but mixed breeds as well. Each month there is at least one featured breed of dog and a poster to accompany it. It also includes advertisement for "doggy" things, breeders ads and AKC show schedules.

My mom used to subscribe to this magazine when I was growing up. I used to read it often throughout my adolesence. However I always found the magazine to be lacking. (Quality, Information.) Now some 10 years later I decided to try the magazine out once again. Since there has been some recent hype going around about it. I got this months newsstand -April -issue and the Special Puppy issue. I am in Love! It seems the Dog Fancy has improved by leaps and bounds since my last read. Now it contains an enormous ammount of extremely helpful information as well as stories and such to entertain you.

It also gives a helpful breeder selection in the back. You can look for the breeds name and it will give you a list of breeders to choose from! This magazine is great for learning more about dogs, some diseases and fun you can have with mans best friend!!

Dog Fancy is an excellent magazine for all parents of the furry four-legged tail waggin' love bugs out there. It is very informative and I, myself, refer to previous magazines all the time. It's your own personal library full of information that you can use now and even in the future. I've subscribed to Dog Fancy and Dog World. Dog World is for parents who are mainly in dog shows and agility. While Dog Fancy is for the average parent who is not in the sports realm. I love Dog Fancy magazine and I know that parents who love their "kids" as much as I love mine, will enjoy this magazine as much as I do.

I love this magazine. Amazon.com's price is great-better than the publisher's price. I am a dog enthusiast, and this magazine is my favorite. The articles on specific breeds of dogs are great, you can learn a lot about the dog you want from them. The other articles are also great, especially the health realated ones. I highly recommend this magazine.

Herizons

HerizonsLike Ms and Bust, "Herizons" is a thoughtful, informative and entertaining magazine about the world from a female perspective. Their editorial office is located in Winnipeg so it has a Canadian focus, but they cover international issues. A recent issue featured a story on Nancy Ruth who is Canada's first openly lesbian senator. There were also stories on Kenyan women confronting violence, women's artistic sensibilities, an interview with poet and activist Nicole Brossard and much else. I often find other useful media resources in "Herizons" and important news such as Maude Barlow's efforts to protect water supplies from mining companies that are turning lakes into toxic dumps, as well as fighting the agenda of transnational corporations to privatize the world's water supply Flow (akaFlow:For Love of Water).

In a country as insulated and anti-feminist as the U.S. can be (with nationally syndicated talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh regularly referring to the advocates of gender equality as "feminazis" Outright Barbarous: How the Violent Language of the Right Poisons American Democracy), subscribing to a magazine like "Herizons" is a helpful political act.

Revolver (1-year)

RevolverOkay, so my title would probably scare off the Heavy Metal purists...but if you opted to actually pick up a copy, you'd realize it does the scene some justice. Revolver covers all aspects of rock music including it's sub-genres(Heavy/Black/Thrash/Death Metal as well as Punk,Pop Rock(i said unbiased, remember?) and everything in between. Advice colums; mostly high school-aged kids seeking guidance on what to do about being picked on for how they dress or sappy love advice; and yes, even a 'who's wearing what and what their getting inked' articles fill the pages between Band news and album reviews-Every copy comes with a free pull-out poster usually with the Cover artist(s) on it. Want to hear about the return of Bad Brains? Gorgoroth's chuch-burning high jinks? or a review of a recent Black Dahlia Murder concert? Well look no further and pick up a copy today.

I like Revolver, Revolver is one of my favorite Magazines. I've been reading Revolver for five years now, and I've seen a lot of changes in Revolver since then. The Magazine is about 100 pages, and is bi monthly, it comes out 6 times a year. I wish that Revolver could have 50 more pages, with more interviews, and music reviews. Overall I'm happy that Revolver still stands as a publication after ten years, because the Magazine is great. Many Magazines have come, and gone the last few years, I just hope Revolver will be around forever.

If you're into metal music then this magazine is for you...they give TRUE reviews (not like Rolling Stone). All the articles in this magazine are interesting and from different points of view. They do musician meets musician articles where they interview 2 different musicians from 2 different bands that is very interesting. They do articles about album art. They go to the past and pull up history from the older bands of metal. I LOVE THIS MAGAZINE!

I have been an uber-loyal reader of Revolver for well over 6 years now. They cover all of the sub-genres of Rock, and Metal, and even some of the Emo-style poopy (not a fan, can ya tell?). They do have some cheesy articles, like how to dress like so-and-so, but I do like the page that showcases a musician and shows a few tattoos and talks about them. Vinny Paul (pantera, damageplan, etc..) and Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) both have thier "advice" columns. I have been turned on to new bands through Revolver, since 90% of what I like is not regular radio airplay (oh how I want sirius). I love -LOVEthe yearly "Hottest Chicks in Metal" issue, which they have now added a page for the monthly hottest chick in metal. If ya love metal, finding out new artists, and love hot chicks this is for you! Oh, and did I mention I'm a married 30 year old mother of 2 toddlers? Yea, this mag is for all into Rock and Metal!
