Web Designer - England - Incls CD-Rom

Web Designer - England - Incls CD-RomThis is a must-read for the webmaster, web host, or web designer. It is chock full of reviews, articles, and tutorials that keep the web-head ahead of the pack.

Each issue has a CD with typically cool stuff...trial or full programs (both PC and MAC), add-ins for Adobe titles, website templates, graphics, fonts, and more. Heck, the software alone is worth the price of the mag.

I'm building quite a library of images, fonts, templates, and icons just from the CDs in the issues I've purchased.

Incidentally, this is a UK (British) publication. This explains (a) the high price, (b) the funky spelling of some words, and (c) the prices listed in pounds.

I suggest you buy a few issues from a local store to see if you're going to get your money's worth from a subscription. I happen to live about 60 miles from the nearest bookstore chain that carries this title. Driving time and fuel costs make a subscription worth it for me. (I want that disk!)

Enjoy!

Railroad Model Craftsman

Railroad Model CraftsmanA good combination of modeling, scratch building and history. In depth stories about the history of railroading usually not found elsewhere.

This magazine usually always have helpful information. All aspects of model railroading is covered each month. I like the product reviews. These give me the information to make a practical decision if the item will make my layout a standout.

Selvedge

SelvedgeFinally a magazine for the brain. A teaching, critical thinking and, oh, so textural, that one can almost feel the fibres on the page. The photography is striking and allows the reader full access to the fibre art presented. It is filled with articles on BOTH sides of the pages, instead of constant ads for things we don't need. Food for the soul, heart and the mind.

It is a brave magazine for this time and age and one that deserves support by all fashion, interior and fibre artists. Delicious brain food.

I've been getting this magazine for a little over a year now. It's expensive, but well worth it if you're a textile fanatic. Good articles, gorgeous photography...even the ads are nice to look at.

This isn't your everyday glossy, one that is 'current' today and in a few months, old news and ready to retire to the waste bin. Selvedge is a magazine (more of a slim book to me) that you can easily place on your bookcase and refer to often for years to come. The theme is textiles, and as we all know, textiles date back thousands of years, so the topic alone is hard to tire of (especially if you are interested in textiles, the history of textiles, or the 21st century textile artists who are out there creating a more modern take on a traditional work). They spotlight some amazing leaders as well as 'rising stars' in the industry, and each page is 100% eye candy you'll really enjoy looking at all the full-color beauty in Selvedge alone. The articles are very informative, well-written, and the topics are all very interesting. The layout of the magazine is impressive, and the ads they do have are reserved for a particular section, and presented so well that you'll find yourself enjoying the ad space. Bottom line: Selvedge sparkles, an absolute must read, I highly suggest picking up a copy and supporting this top notch magazine.

From a world traveller and as an ethnographic fashion designer, I finally found a magazine that addresses a global perspective to fashion and crafts. Was just amazed at the dearth of profound and in depth articles and creative, sophisticated ads (albeit found mostly in the UK) that made me want to read each magazine over again. The magazine really brings together much of what I've seen, experienced, digested and produced from exposure to other ethnic cultures. Bravo!

What a wonderful, creative, informative magazine. I'd become so bored and jaded with the American magazines which all seem to look the same and say the same thing. Selvedge helps to reaffirm there are creative people out there creating!

Vanity Fair July 2007 Africa Issue, Madonna/Hounsou Cover

Vanity Fair July 2007 Africa Issue, Madonna/Hounsou CoverBono's July 2007 issue of Vanity Fair is a fascinating collection of paradoxes. It's for a noble causethe RED charity to combat HIV/AIDS in Africa. At the same it's a vanity project, with celebrities like Bill&Melinda Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Madonna, Brad Pitt, and Bono himself looking thoughtful. One would assume the magazine would be an exercise in self-congratulation. Instead, it's a fascinating,in-depth look at the plight and strength of Africa.

There are fascinating featuresKenyan authors, the African music scene with greats such as Tinariwen, Habib Koite and Adama Yalomba, China's influence, the Congo, and Jeffrey Sachs' ambitious plan to eradicate poverty. Brad Pitt has a surprisingly thoughtful interview with South African bishop Desmond Tutu about issues as diverse as war and peace,as well as the current controversy over homosexuality in the Anglican Church. There's an interview with producer luminary Quincy Jones, and humor from Chris Rock. There's a "Spirit of Africa"-a hall of fame of sortswith the Ivory Coast Soccer Team, singer Angelique Kidjo, former child soldier Ishmael Beah, and Liberian president Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

The July 2007 Vanity Fair issue about Africa is more than a pretty face. It's inspirational and charitable. Great writing, beautiful pictures--all for a good cause.

Digital Photo Pro

Digital Photo ProDigital Photo Pro: This is a high-quality magazine, filled with comprehensive and informative articles, with great attention to aesthetics, as the photographs and products displayed are done with such class & detail. I have been collecting these magazines, on a monthly basis, which I keep in yearly binders, for reference. At one time, I had at least 6-8 different photo magazines coming to my home but then eliminated all but two and the Digital Photo Pro is one of them. For informative & inciteful articles and crisp, descriptive photos, I believe this is the best magazine available .

A fairly thin magazine (approx 105 pages per issue) that is packed with information. Too many ads for my taste but even the ads are informative (so not a complete waste of space). Bi-monthly. Recommended for advances photographers.

It is a good magazine that give examples of different works of photographers and new technology and equipment. I recommended to all, and the best is that is cheap.

I have subscribed to this magazine in the past and found it to be excellent. I am deducting two stars because of the poor delivery system that is currently in place. When I initially ordered the magazine I was told it would take 4 months to get the first issue. However, Amazon did not notify the publisher correctly, resulting in an additional 3 month delay in getting the first issue.

Why would anyone subscribe through Amazon only to have to wait 7 months to get the first issue.

Accident Reconstruction Journal

Accident Reconstruction JournalA very well written, peer reviewed, professional publication. If you are serious about your work as an accident Reconstructionist, the ARJ is a must. The previous review in which the reviewer gave only one star is unfair due to the fact that he is reviewing Amazon's performance, not the quality of the magazine.

What can I say, this is a must have periodical for traffic collision reconstruction. Every issue is filled with relevant peer articles.

Actually to give the magazine 1 star is unfair. I have no idea how good the magazine is because I've never received one. I paid and ordered the mag in November of 2009 and STILL have not received it. Amazon has promised to correct the mistake and keeps pushing back the date to the next issue. The most recent promise was July of 2010. Guess what, still no magazine as of July 22nd. They refuse to send me the issues I missed and keep giving me excuses. Do not order ANYTHING from Amazon, they do not care about you and only want your money. This company obviously does not care about the customer at ALL!!

Internet Genealogy

Internet GenealogyWhen I ordered this magazine I did not realize it is published in Canada. It is largely relevant to the U.S. though. I would like to see more pages per issue.
