Naval History Magazine

Naval History Magazine$8.67 per issue? No way! It's far cheaper on the news stand. Even if Amazon made a mistake and it's for two years, it drops it down to $4.33 per issue, which isn't that much less than the news stand.

I canceled my subscription to the magazine because it has become a forum for petty argumentation and bickering between readers and authors and also because it publishes too many articles which have absolutely nothing to do with its purported content, viz. naval history.

IMHO, it is not worth the price the USNI is charging for it.

Naval History is the single best history magazine I read. One small thing that makes this outstanding is that often those who made the history comment in the letters to the editor. This contains the work of the best history writers today and often spans the ages in its articles. What is really special is that several times a year they commit an entire issue to one historic event. They include fold out maps and articles from various authors. Naval History is highly recommended.

Particulalry nice if you are a naval history buff, but if you are just a military history buff this is also a great magazine. Lots of adverts in these mags, but plenty of good history and some decent reviews.

Permaculture Magazine

Permaculture MagazineI have been reading Permaculture Magazine for 6 years and have never missed an edition. In fact after emigrating out of the UK, I made a point of befriending my local bookstore owner and talked her into bringing it into Canada for me.

PM has covered such a wide range of ethical and environmental concerns, it reviews good practical products and books and has managed to keep the amount of advertising low, (unlike a lot of other magazines who allow ads to dominate whole pages).

PM has taught me how to build a shave horse and a pallet chair, given me insight into the sustainable lives an aspirations of other cultures and communities. It has a healthy mix of sustainable day to day practicality and a spiritual ethic that respects our world and its inhabitants.

What more can I say than buy the magazine and transform how you see the world.

This is without doubt the best magazine I have subscribed to with many practical tips for sustainablity which can easily be practiced by anyone so it really helps to make you feel that everything we do does count. It also looks at what is going on world wide so gives a balanced view of the work being done and the issues which others experience. I look forward to every issue and as far as I am concerned they don't come around frequently enough. I would recommend the magazine to anyone who has an interest in sustainability issues, energy efficiency, ecology growing their own and much more.

I have had this magazine since the beginning and have always found it informative in a non-patronising way. It has always been inclusive no matter where someone stands on the green scale. I would recommend it to everyone.

Bead & Button

Bead & ButtonThis is a wonderful magazine with a variety of projects, from seed bead work to simple stringing. Simple directions help ease the process of creation, and a glossary is available for true beginners. I find a project that grabs me immediately in each issue, and often look through past months for inspiration.

Great magazine, but the one-year subscription (six issues) is much cheaper if purchased directly from the Publisher. Sorry, Amazon, you need to update your pricing on this one!

I have been a subscriber for many years. This is my favorite beading magazine. I do not enjoy stringing, so the easier bead stringing magazines do not appeal to me. However, Bead & Button has such a variety of projects and techniques, that it will appeal to most everyone. As an advanced seed bead technique lover, I find so much inspiration in this magazine. Typically I find 4 7 projects per issue that I MUST try out. They have a reader's gallery where you can send in photos of your work. Excellent directions that are easy to follow, even for the most complicated pieces. Great magazine. Highest recommendation. I save all my copies and return to them frequently.

Bead and Button magazine is a great magazine to get ideas, learn new tips and there is always a new project with detailed instructions. A great help.

I stopped my subscription to Bead and Button because over the years it seemed to gravitate more and more to beading as a means for personal adornment. Each issue was awash in how to bead necklaces, bracelets, pendants, etc. as opposed to beading for visual art sake. I am very interested in Native beading as well as "bead paintings, " beading on cloth or canvas, and artists such as Mimi Holmes, Joyce Scott, Ken Tisa, etc. While Bead and Button has had some great articles in the past, they seemed to become fewer and fewer over the recent years making a subscription, at least for one not particularly interested in jewelry, not worth the cost.

American Quarter Horse Journal

American Quarter Horse JournalIt has been over 4 weeks now and I still don't have my magazine but I already know it is a great magazine. I just wish I had ordered it through the association and not thru amazon because it takes longer to get from a 3rd party but that is ok I hope to see it soon in my mail box

The recipient whom I bought this subscription for is ecstatic at receiving her first issue. One happy customer!!

Vegan

VeganOk, I didn't realize this was a publication for the UK. It is a great magazine but since I don't live in or visit the UK half of it is irrelevent. The recipes are to die for but they are metric, it is easy to convert them though.

All in all it is nice to have a source of printed vegan materials arrive at my house.

Florida Gardening

Florida GardeningThis is not a large magazine, but it gets right to the point. It's great for the new Floridian who is learning which plants to plant where and when in their yard, and it is also helpful for those of us who have been here for a few years and are looking to try growing something new! The advice columns are particularly helpful, and the calendar of upcoming shows and plant fairs is nice, too.

Florida Gardening This magazine is specifically for Florida's unique gardening conditions, especially from Sarasota south. It's geared more toward tropical/semi-tropical plants and is invaluable for gardeners new to the southern part of the state. Pictures are gorgeous.

The first issue of this magazine is short on articles. I would not pay this much for such a skimpy magazine on the newsstand.

Because this was a gift I really fell like I splurged.
