Better Homes & Gardens (1-year auto-renewal)
Buy Better Homes & Gardens (1-year auto-renewal) Now
Better Homes and Gardens is really about easy living. Each issue includes articles about friends and family, gardening, interior design, building, family matters, food, health, and shopping. This is the magazine I reach for between work and errands because the articles are easy to read and brief yet interesting and inspiring. A few feature examples: window box herbs, dieting myths, cooking scones, what's new in family cars, and more. Better Homes also emphasizes family by incorporating activities for children or for the whole family from season to season. Better Homes is a good magazine for holiday ideas, too, with recipes and crafts to decorate your home and enjoy with your children. Although there are more sophisticated home magazines out there, I'm glad I have Better Homes lying around when I have a minute to relax.Read Best Reviews of Better Homes & Gardens (1-year auto-renewal) Here
We got these magazines because of the big name attached to it. I thumbed through the magazine and never found any articles. The only thing in it were ads.I get better information through gardening/decorating blogs and definitely better service as people help each other on these sites. A huge waste.

This magazine has a lower cover price than some of its competitors, and makes up for it with a massive amount of ads. A few ads contain coupons, for those that like to cut those little things out (unfortunately they are hardly ever for anything I want !). The paper is also a lot thinner than the higher priced home/garden publications, and the photographs do not reproduce that well on it.On the bright side, there are many nice décor ideas, and simply terrific recipes.
Taking the October 2003 edition as an example, Fall colors and produce are the theme. It has some ideas on how to display gourds, and an article on a community pumpkin patch, from the June planting by 140 neighbors and friends in a 6000 square ft. area, to harvest time.
There are numerous articles on remodeling, "Foolproof Potted Plants", on the joys of having hardy succulents in your home, and a lovely piece with lots of photographs on actor Peter Strauss' gorgeous Ojai, California garden.
The best article of all, is "The Magic of Soup", and some of these recipes are so good they might end up in your family for generations. They are simple to prepare, with easy to find ingredients, and will make a healthy, hearty meal for those frosty days ahead. Also included with the recipes is the preparation and cooking time, and nutritional statistics.
As someone who writes a lot of notes and cards, I appreciate the final page which is about letter writing, and how this vanishing form of communicating is good for the soul.
All things considered, this magazine gives good value, and is meant for those of us who do not live in a mansion or have hours to devote to a single recipe.

Batman Comics
The "dark age" came and comics looked for realism. Villians that no longer simply showed up to rob a bank and danced gleefully through the streets while the heroes slugged it out an then call each other "chum" or "pal". The villian's played for keeps and are deadly. Nowhere else are these villians showcased than in the Batman title. The bad guys are mostly insane and kill freely and without remorse.
Are all comics this dark? No, try Superman for example. He is the light and hope for the world and his books display that. He is the "all-american boyscout". Batman's title is dark because that is the environment in which he lives. He is a hero that was born of violence when his parents were coldly killed by a street thug in a senseless moment.
I have read this book and I see nothing wrong with it. Parent's should be aware that there are more adult themes being presented and should buy accordingly. Always know what you are giving your child, it's your responsibility. Research before you buy, don't wait until after the fact to preach morality. It's difficult to rate a comic book series since the title changes as the writing and art teams change. Batman has been around since the 1930's and has had probably hundreds of writers and artists. At this point the team is pretty good. They have updated old villians (and taken the step of killing off some of them) as well as introducing some good new characters. Yes, the title is very dark. All of the titles in the Bat family have been like this since Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns in the mid-1980's. The relentless darkness and grittiness does tend to wear thin at times, and it sometimes feels like the writers enjoy torturing Batman a bit too much. I wouldn't mind if they lightened it a bit. The title is violent, but also generally has good character development and tends to have lots of multi-issue arcs. The supporting cast is good, and the title takes place in a deep, rich world.
A good comic for adults and teens. If you have a kid who is a Batman fan, I recommend you stick with Batman Strikes, which is aimed at a younger audience. It's quite simple. If you are, or know someone, who is a Batman fan, this is a great gift.
If you are a Batman comic "snob", then this may not be for you.
I purchased this for my husband, a huge Batman fan, two Christmas' ago & he said to keep the subscription until he dies.
They arrive in order, which he loves.
The artists are all very very talented.
My husband, 35, loves the story lines.
See, simple.Great story lines here. The only problem is , you get them a week late. That normally isn't a big deal, but during Death of the Family, I didn't want to wait a week. Otherwise totally worth it.I've always loved Batman. I think it's so cool that he has no super powers. He uses his brain to fight evil. I think that makes him cooler than most hero's in the DC Universe.

First Glimpse
Each issue of the magazine highlights several consumer electronic products. An article includes the latest innovations for a given product and compares the pros and cons of the different features of products in that group. That article is then followed by tip sheets on how to maximize the use of specific, selected name-brand products in that area.
By example, the March 2005 issue has an overview article on wireless telephones that compares, in general terms, the different features available. Seven specific phone models are then featured individually with how-to instructions on maximizing the features.
This magazine might be useful for readers seeking specific information for given products and models, but the casual reader will likely find it off-target and not applicable. The writing style is for the average consumer and thus lacks the depth to excite die-hard electronics wizards who seek the specs and details they seek.
Overall, this magazine needs an overhaul. It's title is terribly misleading as there is scant discussion of lifestyle. Its format and layout look very much like a consumer catalog. I almost threw it away without opening it. There is likely a market for much of the information provided in this magazine, but here it is very unfocused. Perhaps a series of special issues or books may be better vehicles to provide this information.

than trying to buy it storesI like this magazine for its puzzles which keep me busy all week until the next magazine arrives.
Delivery is prompt, articles are interesting and the food and flower sections are worth copying. The little gossip stories of the royal and famous are entertaining. My parents are from Germany so I ordered this as a Christmas gift and they love it.
