International Figure Skating

International Figure SkatingInternational Figure Skating has articles on past, present, and future skaters from all countries, but mainly the U.S., Canada, Russia, the U.K. and Asia. It was recently taken over by a new publisher who has made a few changes, mainly changing the focus from short paragraphs about skaters to longer, detailed articles. Other changes include a listing of web pages featuring skaters, articles aimed at skating students, and movies, television and books about skating. Remaining as features are results from competitions and a long article each issue on a featured skaters. The pictures are well done.

International Figure Skating is a good read for figure skating fans.

IFS gives the most up-to-date info on the sport's current and former champions as well as the up-and-comers. An excellent overview of the championship and professional circuit with stylish photos, this is THE magazine for fans.

Bottom line, this magazine is for people who are up-to-date with big skating names and who are interested in their acheivements. It is full of pictures and interviews. My advice is thisif you trully are interested in the sport and the stars, subscribe. But if you're only interested in how to land your double axel, this magazine won't help too much.

I was looking for a magazine with interesting, informative, enlightening content. I didn't find it in this publication and you won't either. I won't be renewing my subscription and that's the real indication of the lack of value in this magazine.

Although raised in sunny Cuba I learned how to skate in that country at age 6 and have been an avid figure skating fan ever since. I had the good fortune of meeting Sonja Henie, in Cuba, as a child when she skated there in 1952.

It took me years to locate a magazine on figure skating, but finally located and subscribed to IFS. I have been a subscriber for over ten years.

Although it went through a recent change in ownership, it only became better, offering the reader now a section on books, videos and television times which I have found very helpful.

The articles are, indeed, international in scope and offer good coverage of current events as well as what has turned out to be very good glimpses of future stars. I read my issues cover to cover and that never changes. The interviews are well documented, and the graphics are beautifully laid out. I hope others can share in my enthusiasm for this fine publication.

I interested in knowing about calculation of sound speed through solution of sound wave equation in ocean.

Golf Tips (1-year auto-renewal)

Golf TipsGolf tips magazine is one of the most aptly titled magazines available today. It is chock full of heavily-illustrated exercises and other tips for serious golfers to improve their games.

There are a number of golf magazines on the newstand today. Most of them rely on a lifestyle format relying more heavily on lifestyle-type stories about today's hot golfers and the courses they play. Most of them include a brief game tip or two but seem aimed at the casual duffer.

Golf Tips, on the other hand, features almost nothing but heavily illustrated tips on improving one's swing, eliminating mistakes and putting better. It also is heavily loaded with features on the latest equipment technology. Each issue also seems to feature an article on the technical aspects of a selected major golf course. The articles are written with terminology that serious golfers will understand but that may confuse the weekend player. Judging by the amount of advertising in its early issues, this magazine also appears to be financially healthy.

If a reader wants to read about the PGA Tour's superstars, this magazine is not for him/her. But if s/he plans to be one of those superstars, Golf Tips is a good match.

If you are the type of golfer who wants to improve your putting, your swing, your choice of equipment, or anything else golf related, then Golf Tips is the magazine for you. This magazine, unlike other golf publications, dedicates almost all of its pages to improvement. Most every golfer wants to get better over time, and Golf Tips is one of the few publications available that focuses all of its contents on self improvement.

As far as the advice goes, Golf Tips is a good magazine and it tries to cover several different aspects of the game in the same issue, so readers can find a relevant article that relates to their own problems. Maybe your problem area is putting. If it is, there is likely a putting article someone in the current issue. Another person might be having trouble perfecting his/her swing and if so, there are plenty of helpful articles that include diagrams so readers will know exactly what to do.

Other magazines include diagrams to illustrate proper maneuvering of the hands and body when swinging a golf club but Golf Tips takes this a step further. It includes not only picture depicting the right way to do it, there are also pictures showing what not to do. With some of these, Golf Tips will make sure the casual reader knows which photo depicts the wrong way to swing by showing a red circle with a line through it (same symbol seen on certain traffic signs), superimposed over the picture. With an illustration like this, there will be no doubt in the golfer's mind what he/she is not supposed to do.

Overall, Golf Tips is a good magazine for someone whose primary interest is improving his/her game. There are other magazines that include some instruction on the game, but Golf Tips concentrates most all of its pages in this area. I prefer a more balanced golf magazine like Golf Digest but I can see how Golf Tips could come in handy. The advice is written like a pro, and it covers something about many different problems in each and every issue.

I ordered a one year subscription not through Amazon as it was cheaper elsewhere. Best I can say is that it is cheap. Received three issues at the start. None of the information had to do with current events so I did not complain about being sent previous issues. However when you order a year subscription you expect magazines over one year. Not half of your subscription at the beginning. No articles by big name instructors or players. Magazine is thin about a third as many pages as Golf Digest or Golf Magazine. The six issues are not every other month. They have a strange schedule where get several issues in consecutive months and then it can skip one or more months.

As someone who is married to an aspiring golfer, he loves this magazine. I don't know if the tips has helped his game or not, but he sure enjoys reading it. Good price and thank heavens for the auto-renewal.

School Arts - the Art Education Magazine for K-12 Art EducatAs an art teacher who has taught at all level from elementary to high school, this is a very valuable resource. I have been a subscriber for 7 years and still have every issue. Whenever I am looking for new ideas for my classes, I turn back to my past issues and always find a great project. One of the best for our field.

As an elementary art teacher, this is a great resource! Nature Friend Magazine

Nature Friend MagazineThe magazine has improved over the years, now with color photos and a more convenient smaller format.

Yes, it is creationist and anti-evolutionary.

There is a hidden pictures page (not as involved as in Highlights), a drawing lesson with last month's drawing submissions from kids (many different age groups represented), a nature story (usually with character lessons as well), and other features.

It's a nice, peaceful, safe, and instructional nature magazine for kids (and some teens) that also promotes good character qualities and honors God as having created everything and everyone with wisdom and love.

We first got this magazine when our son was 5 years old. He could not read, so we would read it together, and it delighted him. With lots to do from the object search (find the objects hidden in pictures), to the questions, quizzes, to the "how-to-draw" lesson featured in each issue, there was plenty to attract all ages of readers from K to , well, my son is now 19 and still reads it!

It all started with our youngest daughter becoming 5 this past winter. Our 19 year old son found her pawing around in his hidden stash of NATURE FRIEND MAGAZINES which we had stopped getting over a decade ago. He kept carrying on about how he wished we could get it again "for her sake".

I looked all over the internet, through every directory and in old editions of the magazine, but NATURE FRIEND seemed to have disappeared.

Then we found it here on AMAZON.COM a couple of months ago. We got our first issue a few weeks ago and there is always someone reading it somewhere in the houseME INCLUDED!

The quality of the magazine is greatly improved. There is plenty to do for all ages, recipes, studies of interesting things (like where do dandelions come from and how did they get here and what do you do with them....) and interactive projects for all ages.

One of our favorite features is the HOW TO DRAW series that they still have. Very nice lessons on drawing some kind of animal or natural thing are given. Readers send in their best shot at it and many photos of their contributions are featured in future issues. There is a lot packed in to this 25 page magazineand NO ADS!

I can not rate this magazine highly enough. We stopped getting BIG BACKYARD because this magazine offers so much more and we could only get one magazine for this year. We are so glad to have found it againand it has even improved!

Nature Friend is an incredible magazine! It is difficult for fundamental Christians to find periodical materials for children that uphold our beliefs. Nature Friend does just that. It is a Creationist magazine with plenty of scientific information about nature, written for a child's level of understanding. My daughter especially loves all the input from children her age, such as letters to the editor, drawings that children have submitted, and articles and poems written by children. There are plenty of activities in each issue as well. Both my daughter and I love the "how to draw ____" page!

It is very difficult to find magazines that teach a Creation view. This is an excellently done magazine. My kids love it! Ages 3-12

Beautiful pictures. Fun activities like hidden pictures, draw lessons. Short stories that most kids can listen to and not lose interest.

I really like this magazine. I just received our first copy yesterday and am looking forward to future issues. This magazine was recommended to me through my Catholic homeschool curriculum provider as a supplement to the science lessons. What I really appreciate about it is that there are no advertisements included in it. I find it interesting to note that the readers of this 'zine seem to be as young as 7 or 8 and go up to age 14 or so. So, I know that I can use it with my sons for many years to come.

Milo

MiloIf you are heavily into the realm of strength training, olympic lifting, and powerlifting and I add the odd lifts of old. Strossen's MILO is #1. No cheeky adds about what to drink or take to get strong or muscular physique. This periodical(that is what it is, no worthless magazine)is not about bodybulding, although, If you strength train, oly lift or powerlift you end up with a good phsique. Milo does cover strongman comptition(I could do without this, it does not detract from the worth)and odd lifts are great to learn, know and do for on going physical culture. We all know that the top performers in aforemetioned sports take a lot of steroids and that will never change. I have been clean all my years of training and proud of my abilities. There are numerous articles about the real guys-before circa 1950 who did incredible feats without chemicals and that is why I love this mag. You learn many things that can help your training. The movements and training of old are still here today used by the few who have the information. Information is what separates mullets from people who really train. Milo delivers this info. As you collect these 4 periodicals a year, you can and will go back through when you want to train or do something new that motivates your training and success. This is a storehouse of info that you will never get from the Weider roid rags and others. PlUSA was a good mag, with the adds and hype it's becoming another comic book. If your goal is phsical culture impovement for you and you head MILO brings it.

If you love strength you will love MILO. This magazine is more like a book! It covers Strongman, Arm wrestling, Highland games, Powerlifting, Olympic Lifting. It has training routines, contest reports, personality profiles from the past and present, and great photos too. If you really want to learn about real strength training or strength sports then put down those "bodybuilding" magazines you find on every newsstand, and subscribe to what real strongmen read. There is no B.S. in MILO. It is the real deal. subscribe today! I'm serious!

Buy Milo Now

First let me say I love MILO, I have learned many valuable training techniques & throughly enjoy sitting down to pore over it once it arrives. I also believe that to be successful you must surround yourself with success & reading MILO is a key part of that.

That being said, I just went to renew my subscription & found out about the 50% price increase ($53 -> $80). I don't think I can afford such a big jump.

Hopefully the folks at IronMind read these reviews & will consider a more reasonable price increase that would be within the means of less fiscally gifted lifters.

This is to those of you who already know that MILO is an unique magazine devoted to strength training and competition in its many forms. Each of us, rich, poor, and in between, spends money on what personally matters to us, and no one else needs to agree with our purchases. If an increase of $6.75 per quarterly issue stops you from buying MILO, perhaps it's simply not that important to you. Perhaps.

This is a great periodical for keeping current on developments and events in the world of strength and power. Authoritative training advice and good coverage of strenth and power events including power lifting, olympic lifting, track and field, worlds strongest man events, etc. The photography is excellent. Highly recommended for the fan of human strenght and brawn.

Ieee Spectrum

Ieee SpectrumTechnology magazines are often a little bit on the boring side due to their limited appeal that makes them readable only to those who work in or have an avid interest in this field. IEEE Spectrum, however, is a little bit different. It has plenty of information on the latest advancements in technology, like other tech publications, but from a different "spectrum", if you will.

What sets this magazine apart from the rest is the personal and political topics that make their way into each issue. You can read about topics like global warming, tariffs, technology regulations, and general business ethics. These different topics are blended together with the magazine's core subject of technology and the result is a publication that is more readable than most in the tech field.

Another nice thing about Spectrum is the minimal amount of advertising. What few ads you will see are entirely related in some way to technology. You won't see an ad for a car, boat, home financing, or other product or service like you do in most every other magazine in America. This magazine sticks with technology for its ads and because of this, the few ads that exist seem even less common than they already are.

This magazine is a little shorter than other monthly publications, with each issue containing about 50 to 80 pages. This is the length I expect in a weekly magazinenot a monthly one. The publishers need to improve and expand the number of pages. A magazine this short doesn't provide enough reading material for an entire month.

Still, IEEE Spectrum is a good technology magazine. The combination of political, economic, and social topics keeps this publication from getting too dry and too technical. It makes it much easier to read than other magazines of the same genre.

Over the years I have been impressed with the number of institutions and corporations advertising in the back of this magazine looking for new hires.

Before the advent of the internet it was a great resource to check out current salary offerings delivered each month to my door. The opportunities span the globe with a range of electrical engineering disciplines. This is an excellent publication for students just getting into the field to start formulating their career objectives.

The articles are on the cutting edge, fresh and offers an insight for the technically inclined over what a "popular science" magazine offers.

Buy Ieee Spectrum Now

The magazine itself is good, when you actually receive it. However, if you fail to receive an issue, you basically have no recourse. You can complain through Amazon's subscription manager, but you will probably receive nothing more than a "pass the buck" email in which you are informed that they are contacting the publisher. After that, repeated inquiries will yield no response whatsoever. At least that is my experience, and I thus cannot recommend subscribing to this or any magazine through Amazon if this is what you get for your money.

I have one other magazine subscription that is not through Amazon and I have not had one single problem with it in over 4 years. In barely more than one year subscribing to IEEE Spectrum through Amazon, I have had multiple problems. If nothing else, subscribe to IEEE Spectrum directly from the publisher and not through Amazon. It will cost more, but the extra money is worth it when you consider the aggravation and hassle you will avoid when you fail to timely receive your magazine in the mail.

Read Best Reviews of Ieee Spectrum Here

IEEE Spectrum is the "general interest" publication of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, one of the largest, if not the largest, professional organization devoted to advancement of technology.

The magazine often features articles describing the promises and risks of emerging technologies long before they come to the attention of other news organizations. I specifically remember learning, many years ago, about the promise of TIVO's digital VCR's from Spectrum long before most of my technical savvy friends had even a hint that the technology was poised for prime time.

Many articles, such as recent ones on electric vehicles and solar energy, highlight their advantages and disadvantages without burying them in political side-speak. For example, Spectrum highlighted the role a large fleet of electric vehicles could have on stabilizing the electric power grid in the event of momentary power losses; few news organizations are examining electric cars as part of a larger energy storage and distribution system.

It is written at a level that should be easily understood by individuals with college level science education; there are no lines of equations or obtuse scientific terms. I highly recommend it to individuals seeking to stay informed on how technology is likely to impact how we live and where we make money.

Climbing (1-year auto-renewal)

ClimbingThis is a great magazine for anyone who loves climbing. Fantastic photography of climbs throughout the US and the world with good articles. I prefer Rock & Ice Magazine, but this is a close second.

I mistakenly subscribed to this for two long years, instead of the intended Rock & Ice. I just received the latest issue only to see on the front cover, a great photo, but one I'd seen in Rock & Ice more than a year ago! This is the second time in the last 6 months this has happened. I've been climbing for more than 30 years and there's nothing in this magazine of interest to me. I'm going to cancel it, and I don't care if they send a refund or not. Going to Rock & Ice.

The most ridiculous magazine you can ever buy. First off it seems to be written by surfers. Gnarly, totally awesome dude, bogus... I'm not joking "gnarly" is actually on this month's cover. Second, you learn NOTHING. What a shock that people who failed English class wouldn't have any good advice on the sport. Third, they are so stuck on themselves; any other sports are for the pathetic. Hiker, kayakers... are all second rate people. Basically from the front cover, you have a bunch of `adults' who are trying to recapture their youth by telling everyone dumb enough to keep reading how "awesome" they are. If you interested about the sport look someplace else. Although if you just want flashy photos this is a great magazine.
