Das Neue Blatt

Das Neue BlattPurchased this magazine as a Christmas gift for my mother last year. Never realized a German subscription would be available in the U.S.

German still being her first language she is thrilled. It is delivered right on time, every week, so she looks forward to it and it keeps her up to date on the European news.

Having had such a positive experience, I have reordered the magazine for another year. Ordering is easy, everything is explained, you can even print out a gift card. Absolutely worth it.

Great magazine for those who want to read the latest German news and gossip. Bought it for my German grandma. Only problem was the time lapse of the arrival dates. Many contests and rewards from the magazines crossword puzzles and such are difficult to enter. The entry date usually expires before the deadline. Still a good buy.

Kiwi Magazine

Kiwi MagazineThere are a lot of magazines out there for parents, but Kiwi is one of the few that is dedicated to those who enjoy "green living." If you are a parent or caretaker who likes to feed their child natural or organic foods you'll find many suggestions in this magazine. If healthy living is a priority for you, this magazine is worth browsing. Even the advertising appears to adhere to the standards the magazine espouses. For example, in the latest issue ads include words such as natural, homeopathic, non-medicated, and recyclable packaging.

Kiwi has articles that are of interest to a wide audience, similar to "Parents" or "Parenting." The issue I recently received, the February/March 2011 has a wide variety of short, but interesting articles (nothing more than a few pages). If you like lengthier ones, you may wish to pass up this magazine, but if you are pressed for time and like short, concise, but informative articles you'll love the format. FYI, the layout is colorful, uncluttered, and very appealing. Here are a few examples of what is in the current issue:

* Eco-crafts: There are three crafts that can be made with mostly green or recycles materials. There are "flying bluebirds," a "heart necklace," and "spring blooms." Each of these crafts would be perfect to enjoy with your 5-8 yr. old.

* An article on how KJ Dell'Antonia became a "compost convert." She has four children and "writes about her family's attempts to live a greener and healthier life" in this magazine.

* There is an article on "The Midwife Effect." We learn about one woman's experiences with a midwife and also several things about midwifery that you may have been curious about.

* Three slow cooker recipes, "Vegetable Patch Lasagna," "Nutty Apple-Raisin Bread Pudding," and "Mango-Chicken Chili." Each recipe has prep time, cook time, ingredients, tells you how to prepare it, lists the number of servings, and nutritional information.

I'm a new subscriber, but do like what I see. If you are into growing your family "the natural and organic way," I think you'll enjoy the magazine. It would be an especially nice gift to give to a new parent who wants to relax and learn more about raising a healthy family.

My OB had this magazine in the waiting room and I liked it so much I sort of stole it : ) I like the natural bent of the articles and it is a very fun and easy magazine to read. I definitely like this MUCH better than the more conventional parenting magazines.

Horticulture (1-year)

HorticultureThis is a GREAT magazine for gardeners and plant lovers. If you like to put your hands in to dirt, are interested in people who make plants their life, and believe "low-maintenance garden" is an oxymoron, this is your magazine.

If you are looking for high gloss that showcases the tops in garden design--but don't necessarily want to get dirt under your nails--I'd suggest Garden Design magazine. Somewhere in between I would recommend Fine Gardening.

I have been a subscriber for several years and this magazine gets smaller and smaller. I live in Atlanta an several of the recent issues have had little to no value for the zone 7 gardener.

I was very excited to subscribe to this magazine. I thought, "wow a magazine for a novice like myself". Yet I found it boring and not very helpful. I can find the same information on the web by using a search engine.

Many beautiful photographs and design ideas adorn this classic magazine. The "how-to" articles are useful and timely. Missing, as with most other gardening publication is a focus on native plant materials. It s the native herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees that support the insect, butterfly, mammal and bird populations where you live. Without plants that have something to offer insects, native bird populations will have nothing to find in your landscape; they will see desert and move on.

We have the misconception that a plant unspoiled by a nibbling by insects is a beautiful sight. I say that it is a plant that is making no contribution to the ecosystem. It is merely chosen to quench our thirst for exotic and unique specimens, not intended to survive in the climate where it is planted. Our ecosystem can only thrive when we support it; this too can be a beautiful sight along with a floor show; birds taking up residents, bees cross-pollinating and more.

Coonhound Bloodlines

Coonhound Bloodlines"Coonhound Bloodlines" is the best coon hound magazine there is. It has all the UKC (United Kennel Club) hunts for all states and Canada, all event winners (with pictures of major events), all the dogs who have recently received a title from UKC, stories about top breeders in each of the seven recognized breeds, and stud dog ads. It is lots of fun to read whether you enjoy the competition hunts, or just hunt for your own entertainment.

If you want to know more about coon hunting, this is the magazine for you. They dedicate 7 issues a year to a different breed. In that breeds issue, you will find stud ads by them (not exclusively, but more so than usual) and articles about prominent breeders both past and present.

There are too many good features to possibly explain in this short area. I couldn't possibly tell you all the advantages "Bloodlines" has over the other coon hound magazines. It is so good, many coon hunters simply call it "the book." You deserve it to yourself to get this magazine.

Excellent source of information for the conhunting enthusiast. Whether you are a sport coon hunter or grand nite champion hunter, this magazine has it all! Even kids love this. Great reading for the entire month!

Teddy Bear and Friends (1-year auto-renewal)

Teddy Bear and FriendsI have been a subscriber of Teddy Bear magazine ever since the beginning of my career. My job is to rate the quality of different types of teddy bears so that appropriate prices can be set according to the ratings. Although it seems that my job is fun and easy, it can be extremely grueling at times. Looking at up to 5 different types of teddy bears in one day is a pain only the mind could imagine, but worse of course. Anyway, I go through this magazine every month to get the new info on teddy bears and what separates the good from the bad. So one day at work, I was rating some teddy bears and one of them bit me!! IT WAS A REAL BEAR AND IT BIT MY HAND OFF!! I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!!!! Obviously, this has nothing to do with the quality of the magazine. I give it 5 stars of course.

True Detective

True Detective"true detective" is a classic old magazine. my 83 year old father in law loved seeing it again. an early father's day gift. he read it from front to back in a day. we were surprized to see it was shipped from England! my mother in law and i split the cost. it was well worth the money to order it, because he "truely" enjoyed it! thanks! lynn

True Detective has the best true crime stories, have been reading this for years. Their other mags True Crime , Master Detective and Murder Most Foul i recieve as well and they are all just as good. little tip though if you go straight to forum press its cheaper directly through them on as i just found out!!!

My first memory of True Detective magazines [and True Crime as well as Master Detective] is seeing my mother's collection [she has been collecting them since the 70s!] and this was back in Singapore [where British magazines are easily found]. I was just a young teen then, but my interest in true crime was cultivated back then and continues till today.

The stories are not for the faint-hearted these are true crime stories featuring some of the worst crimes and criminals in history, mainly centered in the US and UK, but also covering other countries in Europe, such as France and Germany. Some of these stories are penned by renowned true crime authors such as Colin Wilson etc, and each featured story is accompanied by actual photographs of the crime scene, the victim/s, the accused etc.

For those who love true crime, this and other true crime magazines are definitely recommended. The only problem I have faced since moving to the States is the difficulty in obtaining these magazines in bookstores [and the subscription price isn't exactly cheap either!]. But the magazine definitely makes for riveting reading!

I became interested in the true detective series ever since I found the article with my dad's brother on the cover. He murdred his whole family some time in the 1960's.. the magazine was in a ceter chest my dad kept at the foot of his bed.

I cannot truly rate this product as I have sent it as a gift for my father-in-law. He has not received it yet, but he is excited and looking forward to trying it out. It is similar to another magazine he used to get and he is always re-reading the old magazines over and over. I hope he will enjoy the new stories.
