These magazines are great. This will be a collectors item. Although Still Point Arts Quarterly is a new publication it puts others to shame. The quality of the writing, reproductions of the artwork, the paper, and even the type is among the best I have seen. I am so glad I decided to join its growing ranks of thrilled customers. I am looking forward to the next issue.

This magazine is a must-have for anyone interested in the visual arts. It features interesting articles about contemporary and past artists, and fine poetry as well. The full-color reproductions accompanying the writing are gorgeous too. Well worth subscribing to by individuals, libraries and schools alike.

Airline Business

"Airline Business" is an indispensable part of my library since, as a senior airline executive, I need to keep up-to-date with developments worldwide. In the current highly competitive operating environment, it is critical that we have the right information timely so that we can anticipate trends and proactively make decisions to ensure the survival and prosperity of the airline business.

Videomaker Magazine (1-year auto-renewal)

It is hard to distinguish one issue of this magazine from the next. Too much repitition with respect to technique and equipment. Not enough equipment reviews or other aspects of video (i.e., festivals, etc.). The articles on technique are almost clones of each other from issue to issue. Also, too many advertisements.

I'm a professional writer and video producer. I subscribed to this magazine via Amazon thinking it would provide a useful teaching tool for the flock of interns I employ every semester. Alas, not so: the magazine is less than useless, it's actually detrimental to the inexperience and maddening to me. Why? Because the writing is very sloppy; it appears the editor/publisher never actually reads what he publishes. The articles are incoherently written, full of typos and, on those rare occasions when the writer is actually communicating, frequently factually wrong. I've written the editor/publisher several times asking him to make corrections of fact, but he never does. Finally, I wrote asking that he cancel my subscription and refund the balance of my money -but no reply there, either. Indeed, it looks to me like the editor/publisher writes his own Letters to the Editor section, as the letters are always flattering -and completely content-free. It's too bad this magazine has existed for 25 years, thus likely discouraging anyone else from taking a stab at publishing for the beginning consumer video market. There is definitely a need for good writing published on a regular basis for that audience -but Videomaker is not that publication.

I am a computer videomaker myself, and if there is one invaluable resource avalible on the comsumer market, it's COMPUTER VIDEOMAKER. It reviews hardware, software, cameras, computers, and even gives you tips on how to make your videos look more professional. The articles are concise, accurate, and well written, so you don't have to search to find the information you are looking for. This magazine has made me a well informed videographer, and there is no doubt that it has helped, and will help how I plan, execute, and enjoy this incredibly rewarding hobby.

Text books are great, but outta date.

I get the best information from trade magazines. In my opinion, this has always been the best for the Videomaker. I first subscribed in 1998 when I jumped into the Avid world of NLE. Still relevant each month.

Young Rider (1-year auto-renewal)

I received a subscription of this magazine for one year, and although it has its good points, there were enough bad points to cause me not to renew. The magazine has tons of beautiful, full color posters of beautiful horses and ponies. I really enjoyed the quizzes and short stories, as well as some of the features. But my problem with this magazine was that it seems to lean towards the well-to-do little girls riding Welsh Ponies that are trained to show every weekend. I haven't read an issue yet that didn't contain an article about 'winning lots of ribbons in shows.' There is no focus on the other side of horsemanship: caring for your horse, keeping up your stable, and health care. It is simply assumed the 'young riders' will hand their lovely ponies away to their grooms and saunter off to hang their ribbons on the walls of their bedrooms, which will, presumably, also have the mega posters featured in each issue of the magazine.

This magazine is excellent! Offers horse care tips whether you own a horse or not. Helpful riding tips. Answers horsey propblems. You can win neat horse stuff. For kids who ride and don't ride. For begginers all the way up to advanced. I LOVE THIS MAGAZINE. I can't wait for the next issue to arrive.

My 6 year old horse-loving daughter adores this magazine! She can read the articles and stories--they are well written and interesting and not too old for her, and she loves the games, quizzes and, of course, the pictures! She likes it so well we are going to get her a subscription of her own, as we have been having trouble finding it in the horse stores. It is wonderful someone makes a great magazine for the younger horse-lovers!

I purchased subscriptions to both "Ask" and "Muse" for my daughter (9 years old) and am thrilled at the lack of advertising in those magazines. I subscribed to "Young Rider," as my daughter is very much a horse lover. I was dismayed to find it full of advertisements. And not only that, but poor quality ads, irresponsible ads perpetuating gender stereotypes (e.g., males do not wear pink) and blatant consumerism ("From hoof to toe, wear the brand.") While I'm using the magazine as a means for teaching media literacy, we certainly will not be resubscribing. As to the content, it does seem informative, especially for a beginning rider, though the writing is not particularly compelling. And the articles are hard to find amidst all the marketing, making it visually confusing. While my daughter picked up her first issue of "Ask," sat down and did not get up until she'd read it cover to cover, she picked up "Young Rider," glanced through it, tossed it back down and has not yet returned to her first issue. And this is a child who is horse crazy -not much of a testimonial for a horse magazine!

Popular Science (1-year auto-renewal)

Okay, I've read the other reviews that call this publication shallow, lacking in depth, geared toward young teenagers, etc. I guess if you are looking for twenty page, in-depth technical articles that delve into every minute neutron of a particular subject, then yes, this publication might not be what you're looking for.

But, if you're a regular, average, ordinary guy like me (who would not understand those deep, brainy articles anyway) and you are looking for an entertaining, informative view onto what's new and what's cool, I think you'll be pleased. Very pleased!

Take, for example, a couple of recent issues (see the date of when this review was written). Last month was focused on the future of personal aviation and the people behind the effort to make personal flight more available and affordable, and about the aircrafts they are inventing. Fascinating! Now, can I run out and build myself a prototype after reading the articles? Ummm, no. Do I know a whole lot more about an incredibly fun subject then I did before? Yes!

This month's issue focuses on similar theme: The future of personal space travel and the idea of a space-hotel. When you're done reading it will you be able to build a rocket and fly to the moon? Of course not. But it's informative and educational to the exact level I would want it to be... just enough to make me aware, enlightened, and entertained.

So to all the non-nerds, non-rocket scientists, and non-brainiacs who want a scientific publication by the people, for the people, I think your yearly subscription money will be well spent.

This is a great magazine for those who want to find out about current scientific topics but do no want to delve into the complexity of scientific matter like Scientific American.

This is a great magazine to buy for those that are high school ages. Those who have strong technical backgrounds may find the articles a bit lacking in substance and length. The average article length is only about 2 or 3 pages and often you feel as though they could have added more.

One particular enjoyment I find in the magazine is the What's New feature. This highlights the best new inventions and innovations every moth culminating in their annual Best of What's New issue in December.

I would reccommend this magazine to anyone with a amateur interest in science and technology and wants to be kept up to date.

I have read PopSci for decades, and so quickly started a subscription for my son at age 10 when he showed interest. The articles are very good, but the advertisments are riddled with sexual peformace boosting products of all sorts.

I think that PopSci has a responsibility to consider that it is read by and marketed to children as well as adults, and should take a closer look at its sponsors. I couldn't let him bring it to school without ripping out pages first. I haven't noticed this problem with other periodicals of the same standing. By the way, when I contacted PopSci about my concerns about this, I received no response. Do advertisers come before the reading public?

"Popular Science" is one of the few magazines that I have a subscription to. This magazine is mind candy for the curious perosn. It informs the reader on new inventions, newsfronts, automobiles, aviation, medicine, and almost every other aspect of science. One of my favorite sections of this informative and fun magazine is the "Newsfronts" section. Here you are informed of current things that are happening in the scientific world whether it be medicine or physics.

"Popular Science" would make a great gift for a friend, family member, or yourself. This magazine will feed the craving that many people get when they are craving information. Order a subscription to this magazine and discover why everybody is raving about this being the best scientific magazine inprint. I recommend this magazine to somebody that is interested in science and would like to get a broad scope of scientific information in a great magazine.

Popular Science is among many of the magazines currently engaging in the practice of contracting out billing...which then gets subcontracted and sometimes sub-subcontracted out. This means you may have to contact three or four different companies via half a dozen (or more) phone numbers with subscription-related issues.

In fact, one subagency, Magazine Billing Services, has closed down their call center, so cancelation requests must be sent by snail mail only. (We've also seen notices from and numbers for Publishers Billing Agency and Publishers Unlimited, in addition to Popular Science's direct numbers.)

Additionally, renewal notices are sent out regardless of the actual expiration date. If subscribers aren't vigilant, they'll find themselves paying for 20 year's worth of subscriptions. And then, due to the entanglement of companies described above, it will take days of calling, holding and letter writing to get the problem of the deceptive renewal notices straightened out.

If that particular agency wasn't involved in that particular renewal notice that was responded to (and we've received "renewal" notices from all of them simultaneously), then the subscriber gets continually redirected. Get used to hearing the phrase, "I can't help you with that." Also get used to requests taking months or more to be processed (if they get processed at all) and get used to getting no responses from emailed queries, requests or complaints.

This is becoming an increasingly common practice, but that doesn't mean consumers have to put up with it. If Popular Science believes it's good customer service to subcontract out billing and relentlessly pepper subscribers with intentionally deceptive "renewal" notices, they can keep their rag of a magazine.

I wouldn't recommend this for someone without money, like me when I first started subscribing to this magazine. You are shown these amazing places and can't think of anything but being there yourself. but I went back to some old issues before traveliing to Europe a few weeks ago and some of their tips helped to enhance what was already a wonderful trip. I'm resubscribing to help get inspired for my next trip

Its an ok magazine. It helps with ideas for places to visit. Unfortunately they only highlight to most pricey places to stay when you go somewhere. If you are traveling on a budget this is not the magazine for you.

This is a fantastic magazine for LGBT travelers. It is not like the other gay magazines out there there is much more substance and depth which is appreciated. The articles travel around the world and give you a good flavor of what it is like to travel to those countries as members of the LGBT community.
