Permaculture Magazine

Permaculture MagazineI have been reading Permaculture Magazine for 6 years and have never missed an edition. In fact after emigrating out of the UK, I made a point of befriending my local bookstore owner and talked her into bringing it into Canada for me.

PM has covered such a wide range of ethical and environmental concerns, it reviews good practical products and books and has managed to keep the amount of advertising low, (unlike a lot of other magazines who allow ads to dominate whole pages).

PM has taught me how to build a shave horse and a pallet chair, given me insight into the sustainable lives an aspirations of other cultures and communities. It has a healthy mix of sustainable day to day practicality and a spiritual ethic that respects our world and its inhabitants.

What more can I say than buy the magazine and transform how you see the world.

This is without doubt the best magazine I have subscribed to with many practical tips for sustainablity which can easily be practiced by anyone so it really helps to make you feel that everything we do does count. It also looks at what is going on world wide so gives a balanced view of the work being done and the issues which others experience. I look forward to every issue and as far as I am concerned they don't come around frequently enough. I would recommend the magazine to anyone who has an interest in sustainability issues, energy efficiency, ecology growing their own and much more.

Military Vehicles (1-year)

Military VehiclesI have subscribed to this magazine for many years. The stories are great and the pictures are wonderful if you are looking for help in restoring a Military Vehicle or not.

Te stories are great. Being in and out of the military for decades make it fun to see vehicles that I used to work on as a mechanic from Vietnam to the wars in the early nineties. This book helped me pass the vehicle recognizing tests.

Now I enjoy thinking of what I could be doing if I had the room. I do have the room for the kits advertised.

You will find hours of fun perusing the articles on museum collections and come close to buying that rare part that only a coffee table can use. Cannot throw away the older volumes. Now with the kindle you can carry your favorite volumes with you where ever you go.

Handloader Magazine

Handloader MagazineIf you have more than a passing interest in firearms and reloading this magazine is for you. A step above the novice rags without the typical sales pitch. Well written, just wished it came once a month.

On a get-a-way with my wife we went to the local Meijer. As she shopped I checked out the plethora of magazines. That's when I found "Handloader-Ammunition Reloading Journal". WoW! A little bit expensive, but well worth it! Even if you don't reload and are just a shooter it is packed with tons of information. Take it from a retired police officer.I'm here on Amazon searching for an inexpensive subscription rate. And I RARELY subscribe to any magazines!

This has great information with high quality photos and easy to understand descriptions. My only wish it that they would publish it as a monthly.

World Airnews

World AirnewsAirnews is a magazine that provides articles and news concerning developments and trends in the aviation industry in South Africa, although it claims to be a magazine for the whole African continent. For those stakeholders of the aviation industry in Southern Africa, this is a very interesting and enlightening magazine on developments in the industry. However, for those outside the region and particularly outside the African continent, the issues covered in the magazine may be of limited relevance and interest.

Having said the above, it is worth noting that South Africa accounts for a large proportion of all aviation activities in Africa, estimated to be up to 40 percent. Therefore, the developments in this African economic giant are of interest to many aviation professionals especially in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The coverage of the magazine is quite wide, including military and civil aircraft, training, airlines, corporate jets, commuter operations, helicopters, aircraft sales, aircraft maintenance, aircraft financing issues, regulatory developments and other news items.

Academic Exchange Quarterly

Academic Exchange QuarterlyAcademic Exchange Quarterly is most unique academic

journal I have ever seen.

I am not aware of any other academic journal having so

many refereed articles in one issue.

Cross Stitch Gold

Cross Stitch GoldI subscribe to this magazine (I now see that Amazon is selling the subscription cheaper then if you do it through the magazine) and it is a very good place to get really beautiful cross stitch patterns in color. In fact, I like a certain artist named Joan Elliott who always posts her new cross stitch patterns here. Later you have to pick them up through her web site at $12.00 each.

Yes, it does come later than if you try and pick it up at Borders or Barnes & Noble but you get it at 1/2 the price by subscription then at the store! Also, if it is a good issue, it sometimes is sold out. So everyone should weigh out the good with the so called bad.

I have to say that I take great offense to what this person "Bookworm4" said about Americans. ("Why oh why do Americans always have to dumb everything down?" ) My goodness, this is NO place to express your dislike of Americans!! If you are American...shame on you! If you are English or whatever, from a foreign country and live in America...double shame on you! I am from Ireland but I am now an American citizen. It is people like you , who make comments like this, who should "Love It or Leave it" Go move elsewhere if it is so horrible here. I think the USA is the BEST and so is Amazon for giving us the great prices they do!!

This is one of the better cross stitch magazines around, but the price is half of what it is here if you buy it from Barnes & Noble. I've also noticed that when you have a subscription, the magazine arrives over a month after it was actually available at a book store. This means you'll end up getting Christmas issues after Christmas.

I understand the previous reviewer's comment regarding the price, but to give a single star gives the wrong impression. The magazine is magnificently produced. The charts are in color, with symbols, and very easy to read. The projects are beautiful and varied. What more could you want. It's worth every penny you eventually decide to spend on it.

I just ordered this magazine directly from Cross Stitch Gold and paid $29.95 for a 1-year subscription. Why in the world would Amazon charge over three times as much for the same product??

Fast Company (1-year auto-renewal)

Fast CompanyA ground-breaking magazine when it first came out, Fast Company kind of fell apart after the Dot-Com bubble. It was almost like they stopped employing journalists. Now it seems to be finding its way again by focusing on leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity rather just on the latest technology craze (there are blogs for that). This is a worthwhile subscription to have if you are interested in what's happening now and what's next in today's information economy.

Fast Company is a magazine that focuses on recent trends in business and technology from a very socially-conscious point of view. The design and format of the magazine are very appealing, and before I subscribed to it I would regularly browse it at "Borders" or "Barnes and Noble." Since I am a gadget freak, the section on the latest products and tools was always one of my favorites. The magazine tends to focus a lot on the persons behind the headlines, regularly profiling many of the industrial movers and shakers. Oftentimes, however, persons that they choose to profile are of dubious distinction at best, and the articles about them have a very strong puff-piece feel to them. On top of that, the companies seem to be eager to ascertain their socially-conscious bona fides by appearing in a positive light in this magazine, so there is also a strong sense of articles coming across as if written in conjunction with corporate PR machines. Nevertheless, the quality of writing for the most part is pretty high, and there are many interesting and stimulating stories that are worthwhile reads.

I recently canceled my subscription to Fast Company. I receive more magazines than I probably should and Fast Company was always the one I would get around to if I finished all the others. Although Fast Company has had some pretty interesting articles, I just can't stand reading an article or reading up to their constant fascination of the 'war between Apple vs. Facebook' or any of the other battles between larger tech companies. Who cares. Those articles become very stale and unoriginal. Fast Company is like the groupie for the dot coms or tech sector, whenever a small company like Zynga comes around, they think they're going to transform the world. They also have a lot of lists, which also gets tiresome. Their list of creative people issue pretty much takes up the whole issue, leaving nothing but some short descriptions of people. I don't want to completely bash the magazine because they occasionally do produce an interesting article being one of them. Also, I am a big fan of the infographics they have on their website. Since my feelings are somewhat mixed about Fast Company I would say it would be a good one to just pick up at the stand from time to time.

along with WIRED, i feel that Fast Company is one the few maverick publications left in this merger and recession world. Even if you don't agree with the articles or predictions, at least every one is well-thought out and INTERESTING.

I really enjoy this publication. It puts marketing and growth strategies within reach of those of us who fall asleep reading other business Mags. I've learned a ton and have been able to bring some of what I've learned to my job. It also helps consumers understand the marketing forces being put into play to capture their loyalty and their dollar.
