Garden Railways
I've subscribed off and on for over a decade, and I've known many of the editors and the folks who submit articles for almost that long. As a resource for garden railroaders at all stages of development (from dreamers to empire-builders), this magazine is unequalled. Yes, there will occasionally be an issue that doesn't seem to have many articles targeted to your specific needs, but there will also be issues that are "dead-on" for what you're trying to accomplish this month.
Best of luck, as you plan, build, or run your garden railroad.
Paul D. Race Editor for Family Garden Trains (tm) (no relationship to Garden Railways magazine)This is the perfect resource for Garden Railways, I subscribed to this mag for a little over a year before I purchased my first outdoor railroad set and it was love from the first page . This magazine pays for itself by what you can save by shopping with its many online Discount advertisers. A great source of pricing those eBay auctions to see if you are really getting a good buy or not. The articles are very instructive and encouraging to me and my hobby . The Pictures are beautiful and clear. The professionalism and love of gardening and modelling shows on every page. If you wonder if this is the hobby for you and your family , a subscription to Garden Railways will help you decide. Garden Railways give outlet for gardening (every issue has a section dedicated to the miniature gardening aspect of this fun hobby), scale modeling buildings ( every issue has a project of various skill levels to do , bridges, people (one of my favorite how to series was there how to make sculpey people and recently how to make sculpey people from pictures of family and friends ), rock gardening. Garden Railways hobby will get you outside and allow you to play with trains with out your spouse worrying about your filling the house up with track. You can also have inside tracks (mine runs above the doors in the den) great place for your die cast cars to park, farm equipment and use those Christmas buildings and people the rest of the year. The product reviews a thorough and gives pros and cons of trains , rolling stock , Accessories and Buildings .This is a great magazine for giving you lots of ideas and inspiration for your garden railroad. It's very well illustrated with top-quality photos and construction drawings. I have found that the articles are well written, and there's a nice mix of things for everyone from the novice to the experienced garden railroader. There are also lots of good product reviews to help you with your buying decisions.
My only knock on the magazine is that they rarely discuss prices. The prices are listed for the products they review, but there is no discussion of how much any of the layouts cost to develop. I think this would be really helpful, especially to people like me who are just getting started out in the hobby. Other then that, it's a great magazine. We installed a garden railway last year, and this publication has proven to be extremely valuable. Not only has it helped us locate suppliers in our region, but it's alerted us to special events and helped us with the specific details about how to build and maintain our railway.

Hot Rod (1-year auto-renewal)
Buy Hot Rod (1-year auto-renewal) Now
I bought this for my teenage grandson and the reason I chose this magazine is because years ago I had always enjoyed it! Well, it proved that it has staying power through the years. My grandson enjoys it also an looks forward to each and every issue.Read Best Reviews of Hot Rod (1-year auto-renewal) Here
I like this magazine. Old muscle cars, customs, rat rods, newer stuff like Mustangs and Camaros too. Mostly "American" stuff. Nothing wrong with BMWs and Japanese type cars, but they don't thrill me any. I like old American stuff. Don't need all the fancy electronic do-dads either in my cars. So basically, if you like what I feebly described here, you will like this magazine. Well, that's all I got. However, I find it annoying to have a magazine renew itself, so if you don't want that then buy the magazine without using that option.Easy gift to give and long lasting read! My son-in-law really likes this one so much that we got it for him again.

Sueddeutsche Zeitung - Daily - Mon-Sat
Personally I like top stories on the first page, the background information on the second, the reportage on page 3 and leaders on page 4, especially if written by Dr. Heribert Prantl. Then they have broad coverage of German and international news. They have more space for editorial content than almost any other German daily. The feature pages ("Feuilleton") are a pleasure to read, especially the articles about politics. Of course there is an business section but I prefer to read The Economist about things like this. Since the paper is edited in Munich they always have some Bavarian news, too. So if you want to know about Oktoberfest, this is your paper. Last, not least there is the famous Streiflicht, a daily gloss on the first page which gives you a refreshing view about the "really important" news today.

Southern Lady
My absolute favorite part of the magazine are the articles about women who are entrepreneurs and fortunately, there are at least two articles like that in EVERY issue. I get so excited about that part of the magazine. If they ever drop those type articles, I will drop the magazine. But I don't think they will because I think those women make the magazine special and set it apart... especially because the articles do not mention any of the financial gain of the women, just their love of doing what they do.
It is so wonderful and inspiring to read about others who got creative and decided to do something for others, their families and themselves. I think the magazine's premise is not about being from the south, but is about enjoying the beauty and joy of life that can be found in the south.

2009 Update: It's almost Thanksgiving and I just got the holiday issue. I don't know what has happened over the past two or three years, but the quality of this magazine has gone down since I first wrote the review. You will probably still enjoy it, but I don't feel it is worth the price anymore. It seems to have a lot more ads and a lot less articles and photos of substance. I attribute this to the publisher adding more magazine titles in which they expound on certain themes that used to abound in their magazines a few years ago such as: Tea Time and Sandra Lee Homemade among others. I used to collect this magazine and loan them out to friends as they contained a wealth of treasure, but the past year especially has been pretty ho-hum.Ephemeral visions of Royal Albert pink rose-patterned teacups, antique Spode teapots, vintage lace, and antiquarian books; snippets from my past four trips to England and France appear fresh in my mind with each issue I receive in the mail. Catering to the feminine lady who dances to a softer beat; who enjoys being a woman and all that that entails, this magazine is a respite of pure bliss. I often save my still-unopened newest issue for over a week until I can find that perfect little island of quiet time and alone-ness.....perhaps with a silver tea tray, a gathering of storm clouds outside the French door, a pretty needlepoint pillow, delectable candles on my pretty table. "Southern Lady" is a jewel, a rare find today.Someone got me this as a gift. At first I tossed it aside but later on a cold, rainy day I picked it up again and was enchanted. This magazine is truly like taking a mini vacation. Every single article is either restful or inspirational. It's a little bit of charm and grace in a world that is frequently neither.this is a "lovely" magazine! Can't wait to read it each month. It slows me down and makes me want to dream a little!Ephemeral visions of Royal Albert pink rose-patterned teacups, antique Spode teapots, vintage lace, and antiquarian books; snippets from my past four trips to England and France appear fresh in my mind with each issue I receive in the mail. Keepers at Home
This was a Christmas gift to me. As the subscription is only quarterly I've only had a chance to read one issue. I've heard of this magazine for years and finally was able to purchase a subscription.
I was very pleased with the simple layout, the heart warming stories, the great tips from other home makers and especially the encouragement of Godly Older Women. (or women who have parenting longer than I have)
Great magazine even if you aren't Christian as it is almost like talking with a small community of women who are all too ready to share their Joys as well as their Trials.I am always so blessed by the articles in the magazine. It provides great information and advice. I am never disappointed. I love to give these subscriptions as gifts to my friends so that they too can be encouraged in their calling to be Keepers at Home. This magazine feels like you are sitting down with a like-minded mentor and it helps "fill my cup up" so that I can pour out myself to my family.I look forward to every issue I receive of Keepers of the Home. While I am not Mennonite or Amish, I find the articles to be very supportive and encouraging to mothers who strive to raise their children to love and know God and women who strive to love and respect their husbands. In our society mothers are encouraged to work and thought to be lazy if they work in the home. This magazine brightens my heart without fail after reading it.

Flying (1-year auto-renewal)
I believe it is lacking in in-depth coverage of future systems, long term reviews of airplanes, and also, long term upgrades of older airplanes. When they do cover used airplanes, it is not in-depth like the new airplanes and they do not go into third party vendors for additional items as much as I would like.
Overall, it is a good magazine, not great. I would still recommend it for one year to see if you like it also.
PS If you read it enough, I get the impression that they are overly conservative on safety yet in real life, I believe they fly normally. As a private pilot of many years I have enjoyed reading Flying magazine, even before I started taking flying lessons. This magazine does a very good job covering the field from safety to flying various types of private aircraft. It is also interesting to read the personal experiences, both good and bad, submitted by readers of the magazine. I look forward to receiving each issue and recommend it to all private pilots.

I took enough flying lessons to solo but found when I could afford it I didn't have time and when I had time, well you can figure it out. The columns by Martha Lunkin are more than worth the price of the magazine and if I win the lottery I will own an Embraer Phenom.I used to fly about 35 years ago and I still dream of flying again someday. It probably won't happen, but I enjoying flying vicariously through the articles and columns. I also highly recommend Plane & Pilot -another great flying magazine! For the cost, this is a staple for any pilot or enthusiast! It's got a variety of articles from light sport aircraft to "Jumpseat" geared toward the airline pilot. Every pilot should have this subscription!Wednesday, September 25, 2013
New York Spaces
The articles are both timely and well written so that people can understand what on Earth the authors are talking about; and they have great graphics and photos as well. The quality of the paper on which the magazine is printed is rather good; and the cover is bound well, too. I was especially impressed with the article entitled "1850s Modern" which displays just how well you can transform a rather old home into something hip, cool and very sophisticated.
There's one minor objection that I do have: The magazine has many, many advertisements. This can be a bother if you're trying to learn from reading articles; but on the other hand the magazine advertisements display furniture and artwork very well. The displays in the advertisements are great for giving you ideas for decorating your own home. In a time when things are financially tough, you could skip hiring a professional decorator and take ideas from the ads themselves to design your home yourself.
Some of these featured homes may be pricey; but don't let that deter you. It's amazing just how much you can accomplish by getting decorating ideas from this magazine and buying very similar but less expensive things that accomplish your decorating goals.
Overall, New York Spaces is a solid decorating magazine for people who want to indulge themselves in trendy, "hip" homes. And why not--after all, you only live once! I recommend this magazine for people who want very sophisticated decorating ideas especially if they want to decorate their homes themselves.
